MM you do it first. I love M's hair, wild baby.

DH has never said anything like that to me before. He is a classic avoider. He is trying hard to be nice this evening! Git.

pepperrabbit · 20/04/2009 21:23

That's because his testicles can sense the danger....

Marthasmama · 20/04/2009 21:30

I remembered something else FIL said yesterday which will sum up his mentallity for you. He said to M 'You've got blue eyes, that means you'll be more intelligent' What, as in Aryan?! I pointed out that actaully she will be intelligent as I am her mother and that my mum has dark brown eyes and is one of the most intelligent people we know.

Ronshar - Silly DH. He knows he was a shit and is now trying to be a good boy. Men really are like dogs aren't they?! I asked DH 'Would you ever call me a bitch?' He said 'No I value my nuts too much'! Good boy, I'll give him a biscuit and a belly rub when he comes home.

I'm watching Britain's Next Top Model and have just eaten some ice cream. I wish I hadn't eaten the bloody ice-cream. Must get on with the diet! Argh!!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/04/2009 21:54

well what a sociable evening i've had. Dh took dd up to bed at 8 and hasn't bothered coming back down yet, so I've done some chores, watched dhw from yest, and have just got into bed, just in time for ds to wake it seems. Great.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 20/04/2009 22:04

right, that's ds back to sleep for now, but have had to put air con on in his room as 25 degrees, so will prob wake when it gets too cold, as dh hasn't yet phoned engineer to tell him that sensor doesn't work.

OP posts:
Ekka · 20/04/2009 22:06

Ronshar - am at your dh.... I have to admit that if dh had said anything like that I would definitely have broken our 'no arguements in front of the kids' rule!!!

We had a great day yesterday (mainly just pottering around in the garden etc) but today wasn't such a success - had to take dh his phone, briefcase & keys which he forgot in his hurry to get to work , then I forgot to give dd her nap (as we got back home at lunchtime) and ds was grumpy all day. Then at teatime dd managed to knock her mug of milk off the table and it splashed everywhere, including all the way up the wall, above my head height!!!! Luckily they were both tired, so I put them to bed early as I'd had enough .

I should be going to bed, but am trying to work out our plans for dd's 2nd b-day party, we are doing a garden theme and have to cater for dairy free, cocoa free and gluten free diets . Any ideas welcome!!!!

Ekka · 20/04/2009 22:10

Oh CSWS, x-posts, sorry to hear about your evening. Dh does that sometimes, but god forbid I should ever be allowed to! He gets really grumpy. He's working late tonight (and probably every night until 8th May) but it does mean I get to watch what I want on tv.... How is D's sleeping going? Is he still really unsettled through the night?

aubergenie · 20/04/2009 22:17

HMM - My rambling post earlier today about the ins and outs of ds's weaning habits was supposed to illustrate that I've found blw is much less hassle than purees to prepare, if you're a bit strapped for time but I don't think I made much sense. Those Hipp/Ella's kitchen etc are even quicker and my friend's baby swears by them. I'm so tired nothing is making sense any more. Think it must be time for bed.

I'm quite excited as I've got a yoga class tomorrow and I'm putting ds in a creche for the first time. All for the princely sum of £2.

jenwa · 20/04/2009 22:42

pepper DD was having 4 bottles a day made up to 7oz each but she did not take all her breakfast one, I added some in her breakfast and she drank some but left about 3 oz then had one at 11:30 one at 3:30 and one at 6-6:30 all 7oz but sometimes she never took it all. Today though I thought that because she had the 11:30 so close to lunch I would not give it and she had a whole jar of baby food and a whole chocolate yoghurt pudding but then never wanted her bottle at 3:30 so today she only had her breakfast one which she hardly took so prob had about 3oz and her bed time one at 6:30 of 7oz and when I offered her the one at 3:30 I managed to get about 1-2 oz in over half hour (ish) so thinking she may wake up hungry not really sure what to do tomorrow now and whether I should go back to what I was doing as it seemed to have put her out today ans she was grouchy this afty Sorry that was not a very good answer for you! Normally she would have about 25oz ish a day

Had a nightmare with DD1 today and been in tears this eve, she really showed me up at my friends house my really not doing as she was told and then hit me so I really smacked her I was sooo cross and so upset. She was so awful as she just would not do as she was told and kept poushing it, she would not sit down where I put her for being naughty and was shouting at me and stamping etc, it was like something you see on super nanny! I was totally shocked and embarrased but luckily my friend has 3 girls and has been in that same situation. I think DD was seeing what my reaction would be. Normally I threaten to take a toy away but we were not at home and I lost it. I cried on Dh today as said I was bad but DD made me so cross. We agreed to only give her treats etc for good behaviour and do a reward chart for her as its worked in the past when she been a stroppy mare!

LOL about mooncups. Will get one and see although not liking the sound of "pulling your inside out" eek! And pepper I was told about that coil but is only advisery and they are very small strings that tend to wrap around the cervix. I am sorry but I would not go routing around for two thin threads in there, I may pull something out important by accident [eek]

jenwa · 20/04/2009 22:47

csws glad you had nice day hope you get some sleep. What happened to DH did he fall asleep too upstairs?? MAybe you should try that one day

ronshar I hope your DH is being nice, how horrible to have said that to you men are knobs

mm lol biscuit and belly rub , though you forgot that part when you shut them in the kennel

just hilighted my hair....its blonder and not green so alls good

jenwa · 21/04/2009 07:55

Look I scared everyone away again.......!!!

Right off to attempt to take DD1 to playgroup today see how that one goes!
promised a trip to the park if she is good!

Cant decide whether it is warm enough for a t-shirt for dd2 or sleeves, god its so confussing

aubergenie · 21/04/2009 08:06

Jenwa - Are you talking to yourself again?
Sounds like you and your daughter had a difficult time yesterday - I hope today will be better!

I'm finding it difficult to decide about clothes too - I think I keep overdressing S a bit. Have decided to go for layers so i can unpeel them if necessary.

Got my yoga class at 9.30. I really hope he gets on alright in the creche. This will be the first time I've left him with anyone apart from dh and my mum.

CantSleepWontSleep · 21/04/2009 08:39

Well ds was awake at something past midnight, so it hadn't got cold in there at all by then.

Dh managed to sleep through from 8pm - 6am though .

for hard smacking jenwa. Do you not normally smack at all?

Enjoy yoga aubergenie.

Ekka - when you say 'garden theme' what exactly do you mean? Just that the party is in a garden? Or that the food has to look like trees/plants etc?

OP posts:
heather1980 · 21/04/2009 08:53

morning ladies,
i had a lovely day yesterday, dh and i took the kids to heaton park and wandered around for 4 hrs. it was really hot yesterday and so it was heaving.
we took a picnic along and made a day of it. they have a city farm there so dd got to meet the ducks and horses etc, she loved it.
but i was disgusted with everyone, the place was covered in litter there was a fair there last week and i think it was from that.

i have a box of gaviscon sachets that the dr gave me for alex if anyone wants them, we don't need them and it seems a shame to chuck them. fb me if you want them.

jenwa don't beat yourself up, i smacked dd once and it was awful, i've never done it again.

Marthasmama · 21/04/2009 09:25

Jenwa - It's so easy to snap when they push us, they know just how to do it too. DS was once being so naughty one morning and was going to make me late for work. He was kneeling, or so I thought, and I pushed him on his shoulder, towards the clothes he was refusing to put on. But he wasn't kneeling, he was squating down , so over he went straight on his face. He had a big graze/carpet burn on his face and a scratch on his nose. I felt terrible! Bloody customer didn't even turn up so I didn't even need to go in (it was Saturday)

CSWS - 8pm - 6am??? Mine wouldn't have been sleeping when I'd kicked him awake to take over with M for a while. You really should kick up a stink and get some rest.

Aubergenie - I'm sure S will be fine. Even if he does cry at first, he'll forget about it soon enough!! They always do.

Heather - It's sad when people treat lovely places so badly. I don't understand why parents let children throw rubbish on the floor. Most adults are just as bad though. We took one of ds's mates out for the day and he just threw his rubbish on the floor. Needless to say I barked at him to pick it up and made him carry it until we found a bin.

M is a happy baby today because her mummy gave in and let her sleep in the bed with her. It was so much easier, but it has made ne realise just how irregular her breathing is even now. I'm sure she stopped for a while and woke me up.

star6 · 21/04/2009 09:58

Q went from sleeping very well to sleeping NOT WELL AT ALL. I'm so confused!!! What happened??

KSal · 21/04/2009 10:00

hmm we were refused medication last time i took emma to the docs because she was happy and putting on weight (still is happy!) but i decided yesterday that I'd had it up to here with all the sick and went to the docs yesterday evening and we now have gaviscon on 2 week trial. does it take a while to start having an effect?

Ekka · 21/04/2009 10:22

CSWS, I'm glad you had a great day at the zoo, but shame about your night. If your dh slept from 8-6, then you should suggest that thats set him up nicely for a night of childcare tonight .

The garden theme for our party is really for decorations/cake/party bags. We're planning on having a bbq with toys etc out in the garden for the kids to run riot (& really hoping the weather is fine!). I was thinking of making a cake in the shape of a flowerpot with flowers in (the flowers being cupcakes as I got some recipes from the telegraph of some dairy/gluten/wheat/egg free cupcakes). Not all the food would be on that theme as I don't have that much imagination(though dh suggested making a log cabin out of mini sausages ) but I could stretch to butterfly shaped biscuits. Not sure about party bags though....

MM - did M have any problems with breathing when she was little or is it just something you've noticed? I know ds sometimes holds his breath (usually before giving a huge fart ) & its quite freaky waiting for them to breathe again....

Well, Matthew & Emily both slept from 7.30pm to 5.30am, but as dh & I were up till after midnight I'm not exactly feeling the benefits. I'm glad dd is at the childminders today & M is asleep in my arms. We have weigh-in & paediatrician's appt this afternoon so I'm enjoying the peace while it lasts.

Marthasmama · 21/04/2009 12:04

Just flying by, I will be back later but look at this! It's f*ing expensive but that is the curtain fabric and wallpaper I was planning for M's room. It must be fate. Is it too early to buy a bed for her....

aubergenie · 21/04/2009 14:37

Ekka - I've got a recipe book called the Enchanted Broccoli Forest which has a recipe for just that - a forest of broccoli florets standing up on a bed of rice salad. You could put the sausage log cabin in the broccoli forest!

Yoga was good. S was absolutely fine (of course!) Didn't even cry. The women in the creche were lovely.

Glad your dh had a good rest CSWS

aubergenie · 21/04/2009 14:38

Oh and MM - It's definitely fate!

jenwa · 21/04/2009 17:12

I knew csws would tell me off for smacking !!! Yes I have smacked before but only when I have been pushed to the limit. I usually just threaten something or use naughty step but sometimes I think through either embarrasment or complete stress I do smack. I usually warn her first so she knows!
Its not often as usually a threat works if I rtell her I will remove a toy etc or sit on the step. I would not beat her though its far from that, I dont disagree with smacking as I had it done to me and dont often do it, just had been pushed too far.

MM Lovely furniture, bloody expensive but wow factor

ekka your party sounds like it will be fun and creative baking

aubergenie yes I think I was talking to myself there not unheard off

Slighty better day with DD but then she was at playgroup anyway, took her to park and she had afew times where she did not listen but she then did after afew warnings of toys taken away and we have come home and put her reward chart up that I got today from ELC.
Feeling slighty better, just on edge that she will be bad again and need to prepare myself!

Marthasmama · 21/04/2009 17:56

Jenwa - Don't beat yourself up about giving dd a smack and feel like you have to justify yourself. Different people have different views, smacking is not illegal therefore as a parent you ahve a choice. DH has smacked ds once or twice, but for us it was never effective so I said no more. It is hard, sooooo hard when they being really naughty and nothing is working. Luckily DS is now really scared of letting me down so he that is usually a good enough motivating factor for him.

Aubergenie - I was hoping for a picture on that link.

Ekka - She did indeed have mildly irregular breathing when she was a few weeks but nothing to worry about. I started a thread earlier and someone posted that their 3 year old still does it, so I am no longer worried. I'm sure it's nothing. Especially as she never suffers any ill effects.

We had a nice play in the garden in the sunshine earlier until M got her hands on a dandylion. She tried to eat it, then rubbed it on her eye, got stained yellow, came out in a rash and then started sneezing. DS wouldn't go on his trampoline as there was a slug near it. Double So we came in and are watching Finding Nemo as ds was so good with his homework. He also got some new school shoes, apparently they make him run faster.

pepperrabbit · 21/04/2009 18:18

I just won an MN prize!! Apparently entering a "tip" (regular readers may remember my earlier fame ) meant I was in a competition.
I have won a family pass to London Dungeon - I need to borrow some slightly older children now to take with me....

Marthasmama · 21/04/2009 18:28

Yay for you!!! But I'm not as The London Dungeon scared the cack out of me when I was young and so I am never going there again.
