Welcome back honeymoon! Hope you had a lovely time. How is the high chair?

Lovely invite mm.

aubergenie - I worried wondered about salt when dd was little, and bought my breadmaker thinking that I'd just leave the salt out, until I read the breadmaking book that I bought at the same time and realised that it is pretty essential. They are ok with up to 1g of salt a day, some of which obv comes from milk, so I think that as long as they aren't living on a diet of bread and sausages they will be fine.

Grr at your in-laws MM. I had lunch with mine today, and then we all went out for an hour's walk followed by a trip to the playground. Then back to theirs for tea and bath for the kids (farkin hard without a support for ds in a very slippery bath), and then back home for bed (both fell asleep on way back but ds needed another feed and resettling once we got home). Am now utterly knackered again. Would have been nice if someone had suggested me staying back from the walk for a sleep, but hey, no chance of that .

ah,csws sounds like you are truely fed up and tired. If you lived near me I would offer to help so you can sleep. I have to say my in laws are very good, why cant people remember how tiring it can be and actually help in a way they can spend time with the children and you get to rest sounds like your DH needs to let you have a little rest too . Was it MM who mentioned something about men needing sex to feel they can do more and woman needing men to do more before they actually want to have sex with them? Men dont get it do they, I think we would be happier if they did more then they would get something out of it too
Next time you in worcs you drop your children here and you can have a sleep

mm your pic is soooooo lovely, a little artist you have there

I have a achey groin as my mole was removed last week and it is rubbing on my pant line! ouch! Its ok really but my period arrived yesterday and its soooo heavy I am flooding super plus tampons in 2 hours so having to wear pads too which are now rubbing on the mole which I cant put any thing on other than vasaline! Nice hey! I think I may have the coil fitted as I heard it can lighten your periods! I want to go on the pill briefly as my boobs are sooo shriveled I thought it may give them back some volume

welcome back HM hope you had a nice time away.

whats a mooncup?

jenwa · 19/04/2009 21:17

whoops that went funny and thought it had not gone!

myjob have a lovely holiday and hope you are now finishing packing!!!!

Marthasmama · 19/04/2009 21:19

I am scared of mooncups CSWS! Are they easy to use? I am feeling fed up for you now. When you collapse in a heap from exhaustion then DH will have a lot more on his plate than if he had just let you rest occasionally. Fake it! That'll teach him!

Haha, just seen a mooncup
Actaully after reading about it it does not look too bad! Maybe worth a try. Thank you csws. Do you know anyone who has one or tried them?

Marthasmama · 19/04/2009 21:27

Jenwa - Meant to say, mine used to be really heavy but I've only had one since M was born and that was really light. This is a mooncup.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/04/2009 21:28

Yes jenwa. Hundreds of them. And they all post on MN about it. Seriously, search the archives and you will find thousands of posts on them. I got one in time for my second period after dd was born, and used it until getting pregnant with ds. Will go back to it once periods return again.

OP posts:
Marthasmama · 19/04/2009 21:29

I would love to be brave enough to try one but it's the emptying out that bothers me. Eek! What if it is very, ahem, lumpy?

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/04/2009 21:32

Well it wouldn't cope with lochia , but nothing else has phased it MM. And they're a great way of saving money too.

Marthasmama · 19/04/2009 21:37

I'm frightened! Give me a good slap CSWS and tell me to pull myself together! I HATE tampons they make me feel strange when I remove them.

aubergenie · 19/04/2009 21:52

Thanks for salt advice CSWS. I was thinking about experimenting with cutting the salt out of the bread machine recipes but wasn?t sure what the consequences would be.

Have a great time Myjob. I hope the sun keeps shining for you!

Oh periods ? I?d completely forgotten about them. It?s been lovely not having any. I bought a Mooncup ages ago but got pregnant before I could try it out. A friend of mine swears by hers but says that is can make a bit of a slurping noise when you take it out, which might just put me off using it in the toilets at work.

CSWS ? I could be totally wrong here, but you strike me as one of those people who gets on with things and appears to cope really well. Those kind of people can often get ignored, because everyone thinks they?re fine, whereas people who flap and fuss or moan get given more help because people think they?re a bit useless. Maybe you could have a bit of a meltdown and people would see that you?re in need of some support? You?ll be on your knees soon at this rate, poor thing.

Damn, I've just dropped my toothbrush down the toilet.

Honeymoonmummy · 19/04/2009 22:17

Oh what a loooverly conversation I've come back to. [HMM considers running back to Wales]

No periods here yet either. Has anyone's hair started falling out yet?? Mine hasn't. I did have a completely gross moment at the hospital tho, which I haven't told anyone else about except DH, but as we're sharing... the day I was back on my feet I went to the toilet and was crouching ready to go on the loo and a huge thing that looked like a big piece of liver fell out on the floor just in front of the toilet It completely freaked me out and I called the nurse and showed it to her and she said oh it's normal and it could happen with my first post-birth period. I just burst into tears! Can't wait for my first period now! Apologies for TMI folks!!

Poppy is fast asleep in her cot bless her. She hasn't slept as well away from home, but it wasn't THAT bad even so. I'm going to bed soon though. We've moved the cot from our bedroom into the nursery on our return so I'm in the nursery with her for the next 2 weeks or so till she's 6 months then I'll move back into our bedroom. That's the plan anyway. Sound like a good plan?

Poppy has really come on in the past week, we had the grandparents each comin for an overnight stay/ day trip and she revelled in the attention. She LOVES playing cards!

The holiday was OK altho DH and I had our arguments, mainly because I'm such a picky/ moody cow with this PND. I'm really starting to get worried about weaning now, I've been reading AK's baby and toddler meal planner book and the whole thing just terrifies me. I just don't know when I'm gonna get time to prepare them.

The highchair is lovely but the straps are too big, Poppy can easily slip out of them, which means unfortunately I can't leave her in it unattended. She seems to like it tho and was happily thumping the tray earlier.

MM how dare they say that about Martha?? She's gorgeous!

Honeymoonmummy · 19/04/2009 22:36

Right, since I've scared you all off with my disgusting story I'm off to do the dream feed then go to sleep. The problem with being in the nursery is it's a single bed so no more night surfing for me while i'm feeding! Night all!

CantSleepWontSleep · 20/04/2009 07:56

Oh hmm, please put down the weaning books if they are scaring you. blw is the lazy mother's weaning method of choice, because you just give her a bit of whatever you're having, so no extra prep.

OP posts:
KSal · 20/04/2009 08:01

re the mooncup - i have one and it was absolutely fab but since i had emma it doesn't work!!! i have even bought the 'post childbirth' size but no joy. am absolutely gutted - once you have used a mooncup and see the difference it makes i don't think you would ever go back

on another subject, can anyone help with a puking baby? Emma has reflux, which we cope with fine most of the time. She hasn't had any medicine for it as she's never been unhappy or failed to gain weight. but every time she has a cough (which is quite a lot since she joined nursery) she basically brings up everything. I don't know what to do she just starts coughing then hurls the lot. I'm pretty certain there's no tummy bug as she's very happy about the whole thing and its always associated with the coughing.

Marthasmama · 20/04/2009 08:14

Ah, I knew there was a reason I missed you Hmm! CSWS is right, relax about the weaning. At 6 months it really doesn't matter how much food actually goes in her tummy so there's no need to worr about a weaning programme. With ds and with M we have just gone with the flow. I can tell when she's hungry for soemthing other than milk so that's when I offer her some food. We are going to start BLW when dh is home for good as I don't tend to eat with ds when dh is away. Oh and you didn't scare me off. Mine are regularly that disgusting

Ksal - Really, is it really that much better? What's better about it? I have looked at the ethical living section on here as they are always talking about mooncups. DH was a bit when I told him about them. Are they really practical? For example, imagine you are on an all day shopping session with your mum. Now on a heavy day you;d have to change it at least once during the shopping session. How does that work? You can't exactly pop out to the sink, give it a wash then go back in the toilet to replace it. I don't know if there is anythign you can do about E vomitting when she coughs. I know adults that do it, she has probably just got a sensitive gag reflex.

M seems to be going backwards as she will now only sleep in our bed with me. It seems like extreme separation anxiety! I have no idea how we are ever going to get her in her own room.

jenwa · 20/04/2009 08:42

OMG MM i was thinking the same last night about mooncups, being in a public loo and having to come out and wash it in the sink whilst shoving loo roll in your pants to stop any bleeding then going back in the loo but then thought maybe it does not trickle out the outside and you can just tip it out and put it straight in again??? [confussed]

HM sorry I was tired last night so went to bed so had not read your post. It is normal but not nice to have that. i had it a little bit with dd2. When I told hte MW she asked if I still had it NO! I flushed it straight away as would not know where to keep it [eek]. Sorry your holiday was not great with arguments I hope you feel a little bit de stressed though. Dont worry about weaning, the thought is far worse than actaully doing it DD2 has organic cereal then bottle, another bottle at 11 30 ish then lunch, pureed stuff or jars depending on how much stuff is left (hipp do nice stuff in jars and so do mums own). If you go on to hipps website they will send you a little sample kit and loads of info and you can trial stuff too . Then at 330 is DD has another bottle and dinner at 5 ish and bottle at 630 for bed so she justs eats meals when we do really or with DD1.
When Poppy in hight chair, just put a thick blanket around her to supprt her too, it helps to stop then falling sideways.

aubergenie would love to know how you dropped your toothbrush down the loo whilst MN ing !!!! Eek!!!

mm Cant believe your FIl said that about M! what a arse! She is soooo cute.

ksal sorry not sure what to suggest re coughing, poor little thing.

jenwa · 20/04/2009 08:42

HM Sorry meant Heinz 'mums own'

KSal · 20/04/2009 08:45

MM, I honestly think it is that much better. I find it so much more convenient as it doesn't need to be changed so often (you can leave it in for up to 8 hours, it will collect a lot more than a tampon), you don't need to carry tampons/towels around with you although i tend to use thin panty liners for a little bit of security, but you don't really need them. Also its so inert, you're not introducing any nasties into your system.

If you have to change it when you are out (which wouldn't be that often) you can take a little bottle of water with you in your bag and give it a rinse (but I normally just wipe it out with tissue). Once you get used to taking it out there's not much mess at all. You just tip the contents into the loo, clean it and put it back in.

and without wishing to be too hippy dippy about it, its actually quite interesting to see how much liquid there is, which you can't really tell when its soaked up into towels/tampons.

I'll stop now as i am starting to sound quite evangelical about it!
