Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
CrochetDiva · 01/07/2009 18:41

muppetgirl - I know you were - but I was peeing my pants laughing!

I really hope all goes well for the next few days now!

wwajc - at stupid insensitive doc! Glad though that the glue ear has been picked up - as R had glue ear, which wasn't picked up, and he has permanent hearing loss as a result, and has also had to have speech therapy. I got as I'd been saying to anybody who would listen that there was a problem, but I was fobbed off!

With his horrendous clumsiness, I've pushed for a referral to the paeds - with my sister's history (eds - hypermobility syndrome) - I felt this needed to be picked up!

Hot, hot, hot .... but I've finished my reports!!

Right, off to have shower to try and cool down a bit ... I feel absolutely minging!

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 01/07/2009 20:52

Muppet - no glue ear isn't painful - it's apparently like having your fingers stuffed in your ears all the time, everything's a bit muffled - hence the effect on learning to talk. It's a bit weird though as she never seems to have problems understanding us when we talk to her and she's always passed her hearing tests. Will find out a bit more in 3 months I guess. She's actually on a low dose of ab's which will prevent any ear infections in the next 3 months to give her ears a chance to drain of their own accord. Crochet - I imagine it's really hard to pick up glue ear - we wouldn't have known anything had we not been having follow-ups for achondroplasia.

Muppet - at Ollie in loos.

I shocked myself today in a 'do whatever's necessary to protect my child' kind of way - not had that before. Anya had a terrible night last night with the heat - she barely slept for more than an hour at a time and was crying loads. We couldn't get her to settle upstairs, downstairs, her cot, our bed - we had all windows open and two fans on - it was still boiling hot as no wind at all. She got to the point where she was sick a lot this morning, probably partly through the heat and partly through crying. At least then she fell asleep on our bed and has slept reasonably well today. Well I was adamant that I was going to get one of these air cooler units from B&Q (£50 - bargain!) as there was no way I was putting her through that again. But I couldn't believe how fast they were selling out. I got the last one from a B&Q on the way back from a meeting this morning - got it home and it was faulty - couldn't even switch it on. So I went to another B&Q that said on their website that they had some - never seen anything like it when I got there - hoards of people round the displays taking fans and air conditioning units - air cooler units were long gone. I pleaded with one of their staff to ring round other stores, which he did but no joy, all sold out - then he said he was sure he'd seen one at the back of the store. Off we trot and sure enough one is sat in an aisle on its own - he consulted with a colleague and it was actually reserved for another customer. At this point (and I put this down to stress and sleep deprevation) I start welling up, pouring out how my baby was so ill last night, can't put her through that again - wasn't trying to be manipulative, just had had enough. So this colleague says 'well it was reserved this morning and if he'd really wanted it he would have picked it up by now so you have it'. Did I say 'oh no, they might really need it - couldn't possibly - they're expecting it to be here - could be for poorly child/pregnant woman/etc'? Did I heck - I said oh, ok, thanks and got it out of the store as fast as possible. Am slightly at me being so selfish - would never have done that if it weren't for Anya's wellbeing.

It's working well so far btw, Anya is asleep with a gentle cooling breeze wafting over her.

alicet · 01/07/2009 21:19

WWAJC - don't blame you!

Muppet I too am pmsl at Ollie in the toilet ! All that to look forward to... try not to be too scared about Mon. My elective section was an absolute breeze! Do you want me to send you my birth plan (if I can find it that is!)

I am sweating like a llama too. But have had a good day - in our new house for the first time!!!! I was painting Sam and Adam's rooms which took much longer than I expected and I'll have to go finish off at the weekend. Builders very very cheeky though to push through ompletion like they did 9to fit with their financial year end) as if we had been going to move in today it wouldn't have been possible. Going to grit my teeth though as it WILL be ready (please please send efficiency vibes to the builders!) and it will be absolutely gorgeous. Really please too that we splashed out on a real wood floor in a couple of rooms - I was beginning to feel like I had been abit precious about that as we are hardly rolling in it with everything we needed to get but it looks absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to be in....

alicet · 01/07/2009 21:22

Actually wwajc if I lived closer i'd be bargng my way into your house and running off with the air cooler!!!

Dalrymps · 01/07/2009 21:40

Evening all

How is everyone? I just had a luke warm bath with Dylan cause I was melting!

NC - Well done to Rich!

WWAJC - Glad the situation with your friend has been sorted. I second what NC said, it just reinforces that you must be a good judge of character. Well, we knew that anyway cause you're friends with us lot

Alicet - You must be getting really excited about the move now! It's really close now, you must be glad that once you've moved this time you won't have to move again for aaaagggeeesss!

I meant to ask you a quick question with you being a surgeon and all... Don't know if you'll know. Dylan has had a little brown lump inside his belly button for as long as we can remember. The paediatrician has poked at it and said it might just be conective tissue that hasn't shrunken back. It doesn't seem to get any better though, no soreness or discomfort as far as we can tell. Her said that if it caused a problem or didn't eventually go away he might ask a surgeons oppinion. Anyway, just wondered if you had any idea what it is?!

Crochet - Hope you feel better soon, you really have had a bad run of things lately...

that 2 of your form have lost parents this year, doesn't bear thinking about.

Muppet - Wow, your MIL and her smoking sounds exactly like mine! I didn't mention her before but she does smoke, she just thinks noone knows (we all do) so she hides it. She's always popping off to the kitchen to 'tidy up' etc... I do have to say though tat she is a thoroughly lovely person and never smokes near Dylan and always hides away to do it.

I don't blame Henry sleeping all the time, I would myself if I could!

Not long at all now for you, i'll be thinking of you on the big day. Sure you're a mixture of nervous and excited but I bet most of all you can't wait to meet Tobias!!!

How did your midwife app go today?

pmsl at Ollie with his 'toilet appointment'!

Pixie - Hi! Hope you pop back in soon, hope you're doing ok

WWAJC - at your stupid snotty doc! I hate it when they have no bedside manner and even more when they show no interest in the lo's. Dylans dietician leaves a lot to be desired, she's always bossy and abrupt and I always leave appointments feeling flustered and like i've had orders barked at me .

Glad they noticed the glue ear though, earlier the better I guess, good that they'll be able to help with it.

At you fighting for the last air con unit. I'd have definately done the same under those circumstances. I got a fan from currys this aft actually, it was a bargain, a large pedistal one for £8.99! Thankfully it's just about bearablee up here, tend to get the sea breeze I think being on the coast. It's still too hot for my liking though!

Thanks to everyone for the congrats
I'm over the moon now it has sunk in, still feels very unreal as I have no symptoms at all . By this stage with Dylan I had tender breasts but not even that. I suppose it is early though, only 4 weeks 5 days!

Funny, here's me right at the start and Muppet right at the end

Hi to everyone i've missed, strawberry, Les, Sleepmenot, inzi, Heinz and everyone else....

Dalrymps · 01/07/2009 22:12

I meant bare not bear, I think?!

EvaLongoria · 01/07/2009 22:22

Hi everyone

Sorry but I am probably the worst on here, due to lots of reasons and when I do log on I always automatically read active posts or childminders posts. But I am alive and kicking.

Sometimes just feel odd popping in now as you all seem to know each other really well by now and I am like a newcomer.
Therefore just a quick hi to everyone again and DALRYMPS congrats on pregnancy, MUPPET all the best for c-section. I had emergency one with Aaliyah and wish you well and cant wait to here about baby.

Right now its superhot & laptop makes it even worse so try and not sit too long with it as heats up really hot. Aaliyah scratched her neck & chest really badly cos of the heat.
Hope everyone makes the most of the weather.

Dalrymps · 01/07/2009 22:38

Eva - great to hear from you. Don't feel odd popping in or like you don't know us as well. We didn't all join at the same time, some of us later than others. You're welcome anytime!

Sorry Aaliyah scratched herself, hope it heals quickly.

Thanks for the congrats

EvaLongoria · 02/07/2009 00:05

Hi

I'll try not too. Oh scratched are now little scabs on her neck but should be gone soon.

Wish I was in your shoes though hubby dont want to talk about 2nd baby now

Dalrymps · 02/07/2009 08:00

AH glad she's healing. Hope your dh comes round to the idea at some point

Dalrymps · 02/07/2009 20:55

Evening ladies

Well I felt sick today but I think it was actually cause of the sun . Walked round town for an hour and a half this aft with ds and when I got back I had a terrible headache and felt really sick . Tried to eat my tea but had to go for a lie down in the end, feeling better now though so I must have just overheated.

FloriaTosca · 03/07/2009 09:02

Hi All
Sorry to have been awol (see Eva you aren't the only one..good to see you back though)but Dh went off to South Africa on Monday, the civil engineers arrived on Tuesday to put in the land drains and Alex has been sleeping appallingly, even for him, but he only woke once last night (still wanted 'up!' at 5.40 but we cant have everything I suppose)so I think it must have been the heat that had him shouting for me every 2 hours through the night since Monday. [seriously knackered emoticon]
It is pleasantly warm here this morning and it is fabulous to look out on the newly flattened expanse of soil that is our garden...the heavy machinery left last night much to Alexs dismay; he had even started singing a song of his own composition entitled 'digger' (interesting melodically and rhythmically if a bit lackng in form and sadly devoid of vocabulary as the lyric consisted entirely of the word digger repeted ad infinitum ) but the important thing is that it is dry and not a quagmire. We now wait a few weeks to see if any weeds come up...then we can kill 'em and turf the whole area... not very interesting but usable and safe for Alex and we can add a boarder or two when time and finances allow (this has just cost us the price of a fortnights all inclusive in the carribean!!! so this is our holiday this year)....extra plus side is that it looks like a BBQ may be a real possibility later in the summer
Shower time now for us I think...hope everyone has a fab day and the cooler weather is suiting both you pg ladies (ms is the pits, you have my sympathy Dal)...so nearly there Muppet!... and all the litle ones.(hope Anya is coping better WWAJC) And making packing for the second move bearable Alice...
Hopefully I'll be back on later.

strawberrylace · 03/07/2009 10:01

hello everyone
DS is also suffering from the heat - he's been unsettled at night and then he was sick twice this morning and is now fast asleep on our bed - so i know he's not well, cos he never sleeps at this time of the day.
Don't think the chaos in the house helps either. Hoping we can paint the kitchen this weekend and start building some cupboards
Hope you are all ok.

CrochetDiva · 03/07/2009 18:34

hello! just popping in to sy hi - it's really reassuring to see that M isn't the only one not sleeping well with this heat!

I have the day to muself tomorrow, so will pop back on then.

have a good friday night!

muppetgirl · 03/07/2009 19:33

HI all

Sorry to hear of heat sickness going round. I had a blood test today and also had another GTT due to having 2 urine samples with sugar in. I hadn't eaten since 10 last night and had sweated everything in my body out last night so I too was sick after having the bloods test and went faint and had to rest on a bed for a while before i could have the sugary drink.I didn't then have it till 10 which meant I couldn't have anything to eat till 12pm!!!!!

The waiting room was soooooo hot and I started to feel ill again so I waited outside which was lovely and MUCH cooler than inside. Apparently 2 other ladies did the same so it wasn't just me

Ollie's finished for the year and I can't believe he's going into year 1 in sept -where did that year go?

Looking forward to Monday and have found out I'm first on the list so I go in at 8am, do the neceesary and they start in theatre at 9am so that's good.I'll get Dh to post as soon as he can to let you all know how it went.

Floria - am very excited for you re the garden, I am of anyone with grass!

Dal/Strawberry -hope Dylan/Olly are on the mend now the weather is a little cooler.

Eva - carry on dipping in and out, there are a few who are fellow 'dippers' and we still love them!

Alice-would love your birthplan. I have it from the first time you sent it I think but I am going to have to trawl through my emails to find it. If you can lay your hands on it easily that would great. If you have to search and search don't worry xx

LisaLessLumpy · 03/07/2009 20:06

Hello ladies

I sympathise with everyone who has had sleepless nights because of the heat, same here and Ben is scratching his eczema big time, he has scabs everywhere

Alice - NOt long till th ebig move, how exciting

Dal - take it easy

Eva - Hi there, pop in any time you can, I'm conscious that I have been slacking lately, just never seem to get on anymore, scrabble and facebook keeps me busy

I am suffering with hayfever this year, it's the worst I've ever suffered, even the torrential thunderstorm this morning doesn't seem to have dampened it down.

Muppet - good luck for monday, can't wait to see some pics

My friend who had her baby 4 weeks early... not having a good time of it. Little Thomas is very poorly He has been in intensive care since he was born, had a blood transfusion and a bowel infection and acid in his stomach, he is now being transferred to the Queens Medical centre in Nottingham for an operation to remove part of his bowel. He also has bad feet that will need operating on when he is a bit older. My friend is a nervous wreck and I don't know how to help, she doesn't want visitors as spends all her time with him. I'm texting her every day but the barriers are up. Anyone got any ideas of what I could do, or should I just leave her to it till Tom gets stabilised?

Sorry to end the post on such a downer, I just feel so helpless.

CrochetDiva · 03/07/2009 20:25

LLL - sorry to hear that your friend's baby is so unwell.
When thigs were going pear-shaped with me, I know that I really appreciated the texts I got from people - even if I didn't reply. Keep on texting her, so she know's you're there if she needs you.

alicet · 03/07/2009 20:27

Just a quicky as dinner in about 3 mins...

Dal without having a look at Dylan's belly button I'm not sure what you#re describing. Never done any paeds surgery either so may well not be able to help! Sorry to be useless! I would say that if it hasn't changed and isn't bothering him it's probably nothing serious but if you want peace of mind ask for a referal to paeds surgery. The upside of this for me is that it's at the RVI in Newcastle so you could come see me!!!

Muppet will try and find the birth plan...

Lisa really sorry to hear about your friend. Not sure if there is anything specific you can do. Just let her know you are there for her by telling her and sending her messages. Without expecting to hear anything back as I guess she will be far too worried for that at the mo. Must be an awful time for her and just makes me realise how lucky I am with my healthy boys.

Floria lawn sounds fab!

Hello everyone else and sorry not to respond to the rest of you personally.

Well I ahve been doing a fair bit of painting the last couple of days - the house comes fully decorated in magnolia but I wanted to decorate the boys rooms before we moved in as that would be a pain once we were in there. The rest can be done as and when we feel the need. All the flooring is in now and it looks fab - just can't wait till next week!

EvaLongoria · 03/07/2009 23:39

Glad to hear I am not the only one dipping in and out. I managed to get BT wireless a neighbour whilst I am quickly upstairs in the cottage, near Scarborough I think. it today DH surprised me with it today as I wanted to be visiting Yorkshire or surrounds. Its my 30th Birthday today and will be done in 35 mins. LOL Couldnt afford one outside country this time because we are hoping to go home to South Africa in Oct for DD's birthday.

Glad everyone is still enjoying the sun even though its cooler than the last few days the kids at least get to sleep better. Typical as every year on my birthday it was storming whole way up to here but weather forecast good for weekend.

Lisa please come and decorate my house as well need something done to it desperately. Oh and sorry to hear about Hayfever. I am married to someone going through the same & understand how bad it gets.
Hope your friends baby is getting better soon and sorry to hear.

Muppet All the best for monday and do take care afterwards as it can have disastrous consequences (ok maybe not that disasterous) if not taking care. My wound opened and took 5 months to close up again. Wasnt fun. But you went through this before so I am sure you know it already. Just good luck and cant wait to see pics

Floria Please can you ask your DH to come back and put me in his suitcase. Miss my family alot lately and would have loved a free trip home. LOL. But glad that garden and all is completed.

Anyway DH calling wondering where I disappeared to. He said he was going to throw my laptop away and begged me to leave it at home lol. Chat soon gonna see if I can try on that 2nd baby

FloriaTosca · 04/07/2009 08:51

Happy belated birthday, I hope you have a fab time in Scarborough Eva. Dh is off to the Durban July race meeting today..for those, like me, not in the know, this is SA equivalent of Ascot... so we had to get him a new suit before he left ( the hand made one I bought him for his birthday just after our wedding 5 yrs ago is too snug now ... not just me piling on the pounds then)..he phoned last night (inebriated) promising that he would take us next year and we would holiday in Kruger....we will see.... Oh and good luck talking Dh round to having another baby..I have even tried threatening withdrawing conjugal rights unless for the purposes of procreation... my Dh just laughed

Muppet Oooh nasty gtt in the heat...no wonder you felt ill...hope all is well.
Just 2 more sleeps until you see Tobias!!!!!!!! Sooooooo excited for you.

Alice excited for you too...I have never moved to a house that didnt need lots of work...enjoy

Lisa I'm so sorry for your friend ..I'm sure she appreciates the text/email support even if she doesnt have time to respond...unless you are close enough to have a key to her house to do cleaning/washing/cooking/gardening etc for her there isnt much else I can think of that you can do unless want to leave shopping parcels for her (including some rescue remedy and chocolate...2 things that always help me)... I do hope Thomas recovers from the operation quicky and goes from strength to strength.
Deep sympathy to you too for the hay fever ..I've got it quite bad this year too... I've decided that red, swollen eyelids are the perfect accessories to the bags under my eyes, its is my 'look' for 2009, so bag on trend no one else has caught on yet

Well I must admit I really really appreciate my Saturday morning lay in now I'm not getting it....can't wait for dh to come home ...9 more disturbed nights and 5.30am wake ups to endure ...the expanse of flattened soil can only cheer me for so long ...

NeedCoffee · 04/07/2009 09:34

hello all

Just quickly i'm afraid as we are at a wedding today, my cousins, and I have to get me and the girls ready/

Hi Eva-Scarbrough isn't far from me, about an hour away, have a fab birthday.

Hi FT-have you got black out blinds? Great nes about garden, so whens the BBQ?

Alic-bet your house is going to be fab, so jealous!

WWAJC-I so don't blame you about the fan, really felt for you when I read about you crying, so would I have done I think, hope it is helping.

LLL-sorry to hear about your friends baby, I second what everyone have said, let her know you're thinking of her, is there anything practical you can do? Food hampers?

Hi to everyone else, going to have to go as Shannon keeps sitting on her potty but squirting it on the floor(wee I must add) so I need to supervise, or sahe slips in it and bangs her head!

Love to all xxx

muppetgirl · 04/07/2009 16:00

HI all, PIL rant alert so apologies!

MIL has just rung up to say that FIL is 'feeling a bit dizzy and not sure if we can make it down to you tomorrow' he had a sleep and was feeling better apparently but not sure if he's up to the journey of driving from manchester to swindon.

...the were supposed to be helping out with the kids whilst I was I hosptial!?!?!?!?!?

Yes we have a babysitter but she's never looked after Henry on her own and was never asked to do so when I approached her to help us. MIL would do the first week with D (babysitter) ferrying children to nursery/play dates etc and the second week PIL's would have the two older boys whilst I had a week on my own with Tobias. By the 3rd week I would be okay to supervise D looking after Ollie and Henry.

MIL wouldn't give us a definite 'we're not coming as FIL said 'tomorrow is another day...' and wouldn't say if he thought he would be well enough. He hasn't gone to an out of hours surgery and isn't planning too.

This means that on Monday morning Dh would have to look after the children till the babsitter arrived to take Henry to nursery and totally miss Tobias' birth. When we pointed this out to MIL she just said 'well, can't the babysitter start earlier?'

I am soooooo f* livid with them.

THEN we phoned and said we needed a definite as we needed to try to make plans -dh wouldn't be able to see me tues or wed in hospital unless he brought Henry with him -so could they make a decision. FIL said he couldn't as was too soon to tell. MIL said she could ask SIL to look after FIL and still come down herself we said could she try that. We phoned back 1/2 later as MIL hadn't got back to us, dh asking if she had mamaged to contact SIL. MIL said 'oh yes, she's staying with us and she says that's fine...'

WHY THE HECK DIDN'T THE SORT IT OUR BETWEEN THEM BEFORE RINGING US???????

I had been crying eversince the first phonecall thinking dh was going to miss Tobias' birth as literally no-one else can help as school friends all go on hoilday for these next 2 weeks as it is cheaper as most schools haven't broken up so no-one is around. MY friend/neighbour is also pregnant -37 weeks- so I really can't ask her to help.

To say I can't stand FIL at the mo doesn't even come close.

Sorry this is me me me xxx

LisaLessLumpy · 04/07/2009 17:06

Muppet - I am livid on your behalf such a shame you have to rely on them otherwise you could tell them to go stuff themselves. Hopefully it is all sorted now, try and calm yourself and have a glass of wine

Good Luck for Monday morning

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 04/07/2009 20:27

Eva - glad you're still popping in. Hope Aaliyah's feeling better now it's cooler.

FT - lol at Alex's 'digger' song. Reminded me of 'boom boom' poem by Baldrick. Glad your garden's getting sorted slowly.

Muppet - can't believe your pils - not surprised you are stressed. At least dh will be there now - try and concentrate on your lovely new ds and your own family and forget what a*holes they are. Sending you lots of best wishes for Monday. x

LLL - so sorry about your friend. I don't know that there's much you can do other than let her know you're there if she wants to talk. She's probably just shut everybody and everything out of her mind at the moment while she concentrates all her energy on her ds.

NC - enjoy your wedding.

Hope everybody is feeling better now the weather is a bit cooler. Anya's still very unsettled but it's now because she's got a back molar coming through and it's keeping her awake at night - 5:30 is now getting up time. Each morning I decide I'm going to catch up on sleep while she naps but then I end up catching up with stuff instead so I'm feeling a bit zombied. No idea how some of you do this month in month out!

alicet · 04/07/2009 21:18

Just a quickie (seem to start all my posts with that and then rant on ) as I was up painting until after midnight so off to bed asap ...

Just had to say I'm mad on your behalf muppet at your pils. how bloody insensitive! At least mil can come but agree the brain boggles as to why they couldn't have realised what a big deal this was. Fingers crossed all goes well - if we lived closer and I wasn't moving house I would happily help out. tried to find birth plan but unfortunately not on this computer and hard drive is packed away god knows where. forgot I sent it already - hope you find in your email or if not i am sure you will manage to sor tout what works for you. Email me if you have any questions / want any tips as I can probably remember most of it...

Lots of love to the rest of you but unfortunately sleep trumps your company right now! I wil ldef be back on before the move as it will be 2 weeks with no broadband after that and I won't even have work to catch up as I am off for 2 weeks! See you tomorrow / mon...
