hi all, will be back later just posting so I can find you all

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 19/05/2009 20:05

Just had some worrying news. My dad's just phoned to say my mum needs an MRI scan. She's had pain in her back/legs for ages but wouldn't see anybody about it. My dad finally got her to go to the chiropractor a couple of weeks ago and she's been 3 times I think now but it seems to be getting worse instead of better and the chiropractor seems a bit worried and has faxed her GP requesting that she have an MRI scan. When my mum went to her GP after her first chiropractor's appointment the GP thought it was just sciatica (sp?) but the chiro says definitely not. I'm a bit worried now - don't know what chiro thinks it might be or what they can do if they find anything .

Dalrymps · 19/05/2009 20:17

Oh WWAJC . I know it's wasier said than done but try not to worry. It might just be something that the chiropractor can't fix but not something serious iyswim? When is the scan? Did the chiropractor/doc give any clues as to what it could be? People have MRI's for all sorts of reasons, they really just give a clearer pic inside... Mt fil had one for a bowl problem a couple of years ago, he had an op and is fine now.((hugs)) to you.

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 19/05/2009 21:21

Thanks Dal. MRI scan should be 2 or 3 weeks. Chiropractor didn't say what she suspected but my dad said reading between the lines she seemed worried. It's difficult to tell - both my parents are hard to read - we're not an 'emotional' family - so I couldn't even tell whether my dad was worried or not really.

NeedCoffee · 19/05/2009 22:00

WWAJC-I hope your Mum will be fine try not to worry.

I think i failed my exam, going get it to add up, used sh*t load of tippex and just lost it, will see in a couple of weeks, hopefully if i have failed it, i'll be able to make up the grade with the extra questioning, unless its bveyond repair and then i shall have to do another one, also, it doesn't look like i'll get funding for childcare for my HE course as it is classed as part time(even though its full time at the uni) because it is more condensed as the college is doing it rather than the uni iyswim.

So, am a little tipsy tonight after lovely dessert wine that i brought back from holiday, think i need my bed, love to all.

Meant to say that we haven't seen the cuddlies but Adam LOVES In the night garden - he can say 'giggle giggle' (iggle piggle) and 'cacka cacka' (macka packa) and squeals with excitement! Oh I am so proud that some of my child's first words are from a truely crap tv programme

Made me giggle xx

Dalrymps · 19/05/2009 22:41

WWAJC - 2-3 weeks is an annoying amount of time to have to wait... I'm sure your dad probably is a bit worried but it's only natural when you have no idea what might be wrong I suppose. Here's hoping it's just something minor/non serious. Try not to think the worst x

NC - Hope you haven't failed, if you have then hopefully you can make it up. Thats annoying you can't get funding, are there any 'experts' you can speak to about it to find a way round that. Seems silly when you're trying so hard!

Lol at you being tipsy

That post by alicet made me laugh too, especially the 'cacka cacka' bit

Inzi - That iron looks great, quite similar to the one I want . The flyers sound very professional, can't wait to hear what kind of response you get! How many you going to hand out/post? I'm going to see a man about my busines plan tomorrow morning, can't wait to get all set up, hope I can get it done soon, i'm getting impatient!

Les - Oh noooooooo! Dial up is soooo slooow! I hate it, thats all I had at our last place and it was infuriating. Hope they get it back up and running quicker than expected.

SleepMeNot - Thinking of you, hope you're doing ok, be great to hear from you again if you get a chance. How's R doing now? You're never far from our thoughts

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 20/05/2009 17:08

NC - hope the exam went better than you think. Shame about the funding too - very frustrating. Hope you enjoyed your bottle glass of wine.

LisaLessLumpy · 20/05/2009 20:40

Good evening ladies, sorry I haven't posted in a while, time just seems to pass me by, I do read though and then get overwhelmed that there is too much to catch up on so then switch off I will try to catch up more often when we get back from our hols.

We had another weeks hiccup with Ben last week, he was waking in the night and screaming and crying and wanting to get out of the cot. The first night we were both up with him for 2 hours, I thought he was poorly so had him out for cuddles, he would just seem to be asleep, I would put him down walk out the room and then he would start again. Luckily Sam slept through it all.

The second night he woke up and it took just over an hour to get him back to sleep. The third night we left him to cry it out (just popping in every 10 mins), 45 mins of constant tantrum like screaming and crying later he went to sleep. He has been better since but still waking up on the odd night but settling back down much quicker.

Not sure why he would suddenly act like that though, he has been a pretty good sleeper since 12 weeks.

We are off on holiday in the morning for a week but when we get back we are going to convert his cot into a bed, see how that works.

His speech is coming on, he is trying a new word every day. 3 mornings ago he stood up in his high chair, opened his arms wide and said cuggle... Awww, it was so gorgeous, he gave me a fab cuddle aswell

muppetgirl · 21/05/2009 10:35

WWAJC ? am really hoping your mum?s MRI scan doesn?t show anything worrying xx

NC ? I?m keeping my fingers crossed for you about your exam and hoping that it was just nerves and that you really did okay I can?t believe you can?t get funding (in a I DON?T BELIEVE IT!! Kind of way rather than I actually don?t believe you xx) that?s so crap. Any other way of convincing them or is this just it? Can you switch to the university?

LLL ? poor you re the screaming in the night. Really hard when there?s no apparent cause for it, we did the leaving Ollie to cry when he went through this too as he didn?t want us ?pushed us away- and seemed very angry with the whole world. Absolutely fine now though and totally loves his bed. Have a lovely holiday am hoping you catch up on sleep xx

Alice ? loving the first words from a crap tv programme! My friend has a theory that in the night garden is just science fiction for babies (? ) I?m also like Inzi in that I forget you?re a surgeon until you say ?just having my tea then popping off to take an appendix out?!? Those sheets would be lovely, how much do you want for them ?I?ll email you xx

We?re all fine here, I have my growth scan tomorrow which I?, looking forward too. Was in homebase last night and a random woman asked me how long IO have to go and when I said 2 months she didn?t even try to hide her shock and said ?2 months?? I thought more like 2 weeks?? People can be so helpful when you?re feeling not quite like yourself Back is just about holding up though did wake up in agony again 2 nights ago, not contractions just a constant pain down my right side. The iron tablets really don?t agree with me and I think it was trapped wind absolute agony though! After the growth scan I?m taking Ollie to a concert of a saxophone quartet as his ?thing we do together in the holidays? as I can?t go to London. It?s part of Newbury Spring Festival and he?s really looking forward to it and has asked me to get my ?cello from Granddad?s so I can play it for him. He really wants to play the guitar so I might look into getting him a toy one to see how keen he really is.

The painter is here so we?re getting our hall and stairs painted. NO way could dh do it as he?s not into diy at all and I did his stairs at his house when we met and I really can?t do it now? Alice, you?ll find painting the hall and stairs of a 3 storey a huge job and we?ve left it for as long as we could -3 ½ years based on wanting to really get the most out of the cheap builders paint that is on the walls I can safely say I think we?ve done that! (It?s VERY manky ) Then it?s onto sorting out Ollie?s new room and then the bathroom. The bathroom just needs a new panel on the bath and new flooring after Ollie found the blue food and got it all over the carpet and put nice handprints on the walls on his 3rd birthday -2 years ago. We?re thinking of blue rubber (flat sheets not like the round circles in swimming pool changing rooms) and then totally white for the walls and ceiling. Hopefully that would survive 3 boys?

Anyway, need to go and raid the cupboards as I?m still eating like a horse, have had contact with my bf and though going slowly she seems to be talking to me and our other friend a little bit at a time so am hoping wqe can figure it out. Thanks Floria for your advice, it really helps as I just want to help/do the right thing and not upset her anymore xxx

Love to all

xx

muppetgirl · 21/05/2009 10:39

sorry, ollie found the blue food dye (we don't keep blue food in the bathroom )

...and we had blue food dye in the bathroom as I used to use it to dye the water blue so we could put his sea animals in...

Oh good god woman -what do people say about when in a hole stop digging?!?!?!

FloriaTosca · 21/05/2009 11:59

muppet so sad for your friend...if she is anything like I was it is a truly terrible feeling, you know it is wrong, you know it isn't rationaland you truly hate yourself for feeling it but you can't help the emotions...knowing that you are there whenever she is ready and able to cope is the best help you can give....you are a fabulous friend for wanting to. I'm glad you are well and surviving Tobiass' pregnancy... justand hope it doesnt get any worse...and I hope he hasn't grown too much when you get scanned tomorrow. Have a lovely time with Ollie at the concert...I think a guitar is a lovely introduction to playing an instrument (not at ear perforating as recorders or violins)Dh wants to get Alex drums for his 2nd birthday as he is so crazy over his pals' kiddy size kit(reminds me of 'Animal' on the Muppet Show)..not sure I could cope with the noise though
LLL...snap...Alex did exactly the same last night..2 hours (10.30-12.30 after he had been asleep since 8.00)of screaming and tantrums..he even told me he wanted the toilet twice after he had already been...the first hour I tried cuddling and singing and walking up and down with him on my shoulder but the second hour I kept him in the cot and sat it out with him. We have decided, like you, to take the side off the cot this weekend. Cute asking for 'cuggles'... I'm finding this sudden rush at words amazing we have had so many new ones over the past few weeks...Dh sadly is still pround of teaching him new word for underpants...'skiddies'!...now he won't call them anything elseHave a fabulous holiday...I hope sleep improves for you quickly.

WWAJC so sorry to hear about the concern for your Mum and dearly hope that it is something quickly and easily fixed.

Alice...at least Adam is learning words from an 'age appropriate' truly crap TV programme...Alexs favourite TV character is SpongeBob SquarePants...yet more of his fathers influence....he can almost sing the title song(not the 'absorbent and yellow and porous is he' line but most of the rest)...oh the shame!!!!

Following the dropping of the cement fence post on toe incident to Dh we decided we needed help with the garden..We have just had a second man round to give us a quote for doing the landdrains after a 'friend' quoted £2,500 just for the drains and a further £1000 to take away the top 6" of clay and replace with good top soil...£3.5k before we even get to turf or new fencing let alone a patio or boarders!!!...this guy is quoting both for doing the job and for hiring the equipment to us to do ourselves...if it is as bad a quote as the first I can see me regaining my wedding day figure plus additional muscles over this summer without needing to diet!

and while I have been trying to type we have had a major potty disaster...Alex has asked for and used the potty...I took it to empty and returned to find that he hadn't finished [ooops]but had tried to remove his pants(only half sucessfully) and get to me in the bathroom...we have both just had to have a shower.. ....and all praise to the inventor of the vax carpet cleaner.

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 21/05/2009 18:41

I rang NS&I today chasing them about that 'lost' account they thought they'd found. Good news - it is mine . Then she said 'don't get your hopes up - it's not much'. How much? 'Well I can't tell you exactly but it's less than £10.' Fair enough . Very small drinks on me then.

LLL - hope you have a good holiday and that Ben sleeps better. Awww at 'cuggle'.

Muppet - can you get your iron tablets changed maybe? Don't know if that would help. Saxophone quartet sounds great - hope Ollie enjoys it. Hope all goes well with the scan tomorrow. DH and I painted hall and stairs once (well, mainly dh) - it's much harder than you'd think because so much of it is out of reach. Glad your bf is talking to you a bit - a step forward by the sounds of things.

FT - lol at Alex being 'animal' from the Muppets. And lol at 'skiddies'. Anya occasionally comes out with random words but never the same ones more than once and never at any useful time like when she wants something. I don't think it's dawned on her yet that speaking is a useful thing - being as she can get what she wants through a series of grunts and pointing.

LisaLessLumpy · 22/05/2009 10:02

I'm on holiday, the kids are in creche and I'm on mumsnet is that bad?

Well the boys couldn't have behaved any better yesterday other than not coming with us. 6 hours in the car a stop for lunch and one loo break and they were complete angels. They sat quietly the whole way and just looked out of the windows, I am truly amazed how good they were. Ben also slept all night without a murmur and Sam too once he finally dropped off at 8.30.

I'm having a nice relaxing morning with coffee and the laptop, picking the boys up at 11.45, then we'll see what we do this afternoon, probably off into Newquay as I have forgotten some stuff, bloody typical, no matter how hard I try I always forget something.

The weather is looking promising at least over the weekend, it is said to be the warmest this year, again bloody typical seeing as I have packed jumpers, jeans and long sleeved tops for the boys, at least I had the hindsight of putting 1 pair of shorts in each for them

A woman has seriously pissed me off this morning, I am seething at her attitude. They were in reception checking out (thank god) she had a boy and girl, probably about 18 months and 3yrs. She asked them to stay in reception, she then turned away to sort out checkout with her husband, the kids then ran off through the door into another part of the building, so I thought I would be friendly and just said to her that her children had run off, she then without looking at me and half out of the door after them said in a really snotty voice, 'thanks but my children are responsible enough to be ok' or something like that, stupid bitch, gobsmacked is not the word, a bloke behind the counter agreed with me and raised his eyebrows as if to say WTF.

Muppet - Hope your back doesn't get any worse for the remainder of the pregnancy, any news on Henry walking more yet? You must be so frustrated but I reckon he will just surprise you one day and just do it and not look back Enjoy your day with Ollie. Oh and good news about your friend, I hope you manage to get back on track wit her again

Florio - What great exercise to get your body back into shape you could end up being like an Amazon woman, tall and strong

Ewww, at the accident, lovely stuff Loving the skiddies word though

WWAJC - shame the bank account wasn't for more money

muppetgirl · 22/05/2009 20:18

HI all!

Well, had scan today and Tobias is within normal range for his gestational age so not a large baby!!!! Wooohhoooooo. The fat knacker is me then

Ollie loved the concert though they did play a lot of modern music which wasn?t easy on the ear but they ended with a really funky 12 bar blues style piece which he loved. One of the pieces he said ?this is like a train journey?? and spent the duration of it motioning his arms like a train which I thought was pretty cute!

Floria ? at your quote but suppose it?s worth it if your garden becomes more usable and you?re staying for a while? I think the guitar is a good choice of Ollie?s too. I started on the recorder and was made to go and practise down at the bottom of the garden by my mean brothers Violin is a pet hate and flute and trumpet fairly awful when first learning too. We?ll see how he goes, might see if I can take him to a guitar recital and see what he thinks.

Hall is coming on, isn?t it amazing that even just having the cracks filled makes the place look so much better, makes me think how manky it really was for filler to make it look lovely Ollie?s new bed has just arrived and is now in the garage so he?s going to be so excited! Dh is on his way up north to drop them off as they are going to GP?s for the half term. I am so looking forward to some time off?

WWAJC ? I have stopped taking the iron tablets as I think they were the cause. Am fine now. Feel really daft to have been in quite so much pain with just trapped wind (I think!) Good news on the account, mine?s a lime and soda

LLL- responsible at 18 months?!?!?! If Henry?s anything to go by I would be pleased to get some sort of responsibility just before he leaves home!! Hope the relaxing continues and so glad for you that the boys were good on the way down and slept!!!
Back is very intermittent even to the point of walking. Some steps fine some steps agony. I just keep thinking 6 weeks to go. Henry can stand on his own and is so chuffed about being able to do that that he claps himself (no self esteem issues there then ) still needs heavy support to actually ?walk? but he does appear to be slowly getting there. I do feel I might have been more chilled had I not been pregnant as it just becomes and all consuming issue. His speech is fab though and he does a mean ?ready, steady GO!? He?s dropped some signs which is a shame. He doesn?t do car anymore just says ?dar? and points, ?more? he shouts ?mow? or sometimes ?more? and the sign isn?t always there. I taught him ?sh? but he presses his nose and blows, very cute! I?ve also looked at the jolly phonics 1st book with his (only twice so not hot housing honestly!) I figure that they?re signs and a sign is a sign so why not? He loves ?p? and puts his finger out and says ?p? and appears to try to blow his finger out like a candle so we?ll see. The health visitor is still being fab and supportive (and sensible) which helps.

I am off to spend the evening watching TV as dh is away I get to watch everything I like! He?s back tomorrow so we?re off in search of hall carpets and rubber floors.

Love to all
xxxx

Dalrymps · 23/05/2009 09:57

Hi ladies,

LLL - Hope you're enjoying your holiday . No, it's not bad that the children were at the creche and you were on MN, sounds like the perfect holiday to me!

Glad the weather is lovely.

Wtf was that woman at reception on about? Talking about responsibility, why dosn't she learn to be responsible for her children? I wouldn't let Dylan run off like that and expect everyhthing to be ok, I can't take my eyes off him for a second!

Muppet - Hope the trapped wind has cleared up now... Sounds like the decoration is going well, we need to do our hall too as we painted it 2 yrs ago but used crap paint so it shows up every mark.

Glad Ollie enjoyed the concert . Also very happy for you that Tobias is normal size, bet that's a relief! How can you only have 6 weeks left???! It only seems like 2 minutes ago you were telling us you were pregnant, I am so excited for you and also a little . Can't wait to see pics of Tobias!

Floria - at Alex liking sponge bob, if it makes you feel any better Dylans favourite is The Simpsons, he shouts 'Homer' everytime it comes on!

You must have a big garden and a lot of work to be done for that much money! Gardensing is really har work so hope you get a cheaper quote!

Glad we're not potty training yet, that potty disaster sounds major!

WWAJC - Sorry the acount wasn't for more... Mines a sparkling water

Well Dh's bro and sil are visiting today so we'll be going down to pils to see them and our niece . Am a little wary about it however as Dylan has started smacking everything and everyone and she's 4 months younger than him so it's hardly fair. Oh well, there be a lot of NOOOOO! this afternoon. When is this 'phase' over?

muppetgirl · 23/05/2009 11:55

Dal -I'll remind you of feeling like you want a baby when you're 33 weeks pregnant!!!
Still, I bet you're having fun trying I couldn't think of anything less appealing at the mo Sounds like you're off for a nice family day, I have just finished clearing out the utility room (again!) As I'm stuck downstairs till the painter has done the 1st coat of the the glossing. Having the hall/stairs done is going to be fab but it does mean that I'm rather stuck downstairs so clearing out is quite a good outcome really. Making a list of things we need to buy from the dreaded Ikea -ironing board door holder, plastic boxes for cupboards for example. Oh the dizzy heights of a childless bank holiday

Dh just phoned to say he'd/we'd forgotton to pack a puschchair so he's had to nip and and buy one. Not happy as we seem to have bought hundreds of the things and as we won't get much use out of it (MIL -'Why doesn't it stay up here for when they visit?' Me -because they visit 3 x's a year!!!!) Still the Stockport mothercare didn't have the really cheap £35.99 one (typical) and he bought the £95 ish Silver Cross one arrrgggghhhhh.

Still, on his way back now so we should have a couple of free days and then a childless week which will be wierd but heaven.

Painter here till 12.30 afterwhich there will be much snoozing on the sofa coming from me

love to all
xxx

Dalrymps · 23/05/2009 21:11

at my spelling in that last post and all the missing letters!

Muppet - Sounds like you're getting more done than me and i'm not pg! Will be bliss for you to have a week off from watching the kids, you'll feel like newlyweds again .

Your dh bought a £95 buggy . Is that just a stroller? Are you going to leave that one at pils?

Enjoy your snoozing on the sofa, you deserve it

Mmmm, I made a stew tonight , it's just cooking in the oven now for tomorrow. As Dylan has been eating the lumpy jars (finally) the dietician said we should try to get him to eat more 'proper meals' so he's been having what we've been having for tea. He doesn't eat very much of it but enjoys chewing it up and spitting it out, he is eating a little more each day though. We're just doing it at tea time for now then once he's got the hang of that we'll stop any jars at lunchtime too. He does have finger foods anf fruit etc but he's been having a lot of jards for ages now as it's all he'd eat, quite frustrating as I wanted to cook him lovely meals and he wouldn't eat them . Anyway, its a s-l-o-w process but we're getting there

How is everyone today?

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 24/05/2009 17:33

LLL - no that's not bad, that's normal . Glad the boys are being well behaved.

Muppet - glad the scan went well, you must be relieved that Tobias is not huge. Woo hoo to Henry for standing - walking can't be far away now surely. Hope you enjoyed your lazy afternoon yesterday.

Dal - hope you enjoyed your visit to pils and that Dylan behaved himself. Stew sounds lovely.

I had a long talk with my boss on Friday about me feeling under so much pressure to get commission. He seemed surprised and said I shouldn't feel under any pressure because they weren't sales driven. Hmmm. I told him I was basically ignoring the targets from now on and was going to concentrate on doing what was right for the client and he thought that was fine. I shall wait and see whether that stays true when I have my monthly meetings.

Am loving this weather - Anya's been outside almost all weekend so far. We had friends round last night and Anya insisted on staying up and partying until she was forcibly removed at 9pm.

SleepMeNot · 24/05/2009 18:57

Hi everyone

Sorry to be such a crap poster (non-poster, even!!!). Everything is fine - DD as sleep-resisting as ever, if not more so, but that aside - I'm just very busy and too tired after she goes to bed to do much more than go to bed myself. The consequence of a sleep terrorist child...

Anyway, hello everyone! Muppet, can't believe you'll soon have Tobias - time has flown. Will you shorten it to Toby or not, do you think? and enjoy your childfree week. I can't decide if that would be heaven or hell for me. I'm still in pfb mode, probably.

Dal, hope it happens soon! Six months is when it happens for a lot of people, apparently. Oh and sorry about all the crap with your parents. You've handled it so well.

WWAJC, good news on your boss's take on your work. Working with finances must be a bit of a mare at the mo - one time it is good to work for the state despite other disadvantages...

LLL, let us know how Ben likes big boy bed. They are growing up so soon, aren't they...?

Stefka, do you now have a week off to catch up on Mumsnet???

Hi Floria; is Alex still a happy advanced little soul?

NeedCoffee, sorry about your exam but would wager it went much better than you thought. Fingers crossed!

Inzi, cant believe your weight loss! wow! My DH's boss did that same diet and went from a size 20 to a 12. I have to say she has struggled since to maintain her weight but she looks good on it.

So we bumped into Alice and her lot today! It was so nice to see them and made me remember you lot. Adam is so cute and smiley and both he and R were clearly full of mischief and wanting to be running around all the time. They were very cute together. In fact Adam is adorable; I wanted to adopt him!

OK, so news from here: sleep still horrendous; everything else good, really. Except shoe buying is a trauma as R's feet are teeny - a 3 in Clarks and a 2 1/2 in Startrite although she has walked for ages, and often the Clarks 3 are too big for her, so finding shoes has been a real ordeal every time. I am small footed (size 3) - guess she's taking after me. Any tips on places to find small walking shoes??? Oh and like all of your lot she has a strong will and isnt afraid to shout and go rigid when her will isn't being followed. Specially when it comes to being made to sit either in a highchair or a buggy!

OK, time to start the going to bed procedure. Thankfully she does go to bed okay now, if only she would just stay there... Have a lovely Bank Holiday in the sun everyone.

Dalrymps · 24/05/2009 22:56

Hi ladies,

Ahh we've had a lovely sunny day at pils with both dh's bro's and sils and my niece and nephew. We spent most of the afternoon in their huge garden whilst the little ones played in the sand pit and ran wild and picked flowers

WWAJC - Isn't the weather great! Glad your boss is saying no pressure, hope he sticks to it and you can get on with your job without worrying!

SleepMeNot - Great to hear from you!!! Sorry to hear you're still struggling with the sleep, I really hope it improves soon...

Thanks for giving me hope about ttc, hopefully it'll be soon then

Dylans feet are small too, we still haven't got him shoes from clarks ans the ones we wanted start at a size 4 and he was a 3. He's more like a 3 and a half to 4 now. We just get him trainers from sports direct and shoes from gap, and anywhere we find ones that fit really. At the moment he's mostly wearing converse boots and addidas shell toes that were bought for him by my bro and sil. I know clarks go on about them being a super precise fit but you just have to check their toes are in the right place and you can see from looking that some styles of shoe are wider or thinner than others. The addidas ones Dylan has right now have a insole that comes out and has markings on it so you can stand him on it and check they will fit

Bet it was nie to see alicet and the gang

Have a great bank holiday and don't be a stranger x

Inzi - You handed your flyers out yet? Any responces?

muppetgirl · 25/05/2009 10:57

HI all, got all we needed in Ikea and it was virtually empty [shock!] and we didn't even have to queue to pay!

We went to John Lewis and had a mooch around (lovely with no children) had a spontaneous coffee and cake and it was fab.

It was when we got home the drama started...

Dh tried to put some shelves up in the study/dinning room and he hit a water pipe. Water gushing everywhere at a jet propelled pace. Him panicking me then coming in to take charge (I do actually seem to be good in a crisis )

So picture the scene, me 7 months pregnant with my finger stuck in a wall keeping the water in the wall and not over dh's incredibly expensive work computer, my laptop, his monitor etc etc. I was clamly telling dh to move his computer and not to worry about anything else (once he's turned the water off which was a trauma in itself as we both expected it to stop but it didn't, in fact it had no effect for about 5 mins to the water running into the wall) he moved it into the playroom and then the wall started to bubble where the water had found another means of escape (as it does!)

Water finally stopped but on walking out of the study water was leaking out from under the flooring (laminate in the study, amtico in the hall so a gap for the water to go under) into the hall so after a quick runa round trying to find towels (why is it in these circumstances you find you don't have nearly the ammount of towels you thought and they are all so manky???)

No cold water since last night and the emergency plumber has just turned up...

Thank God the children weren't here!!!!

Dalrymps · 25/05/2009 14:29

Muppet - Don't know if i'm more shocked at Ikea being empty or the water trauma!

Glad the plumber is there, hope it can be sorted quickly and cheaply...

Sounds like it got everywhere

Wish I could go to Ikea, haven't been for ages...

Hi Dal -LOL!

Plumber fixed and only made a small hole in the wall, is covered by insurance so don't have to pay -Dh phoned insurance this morning as the flooring is buckling already.

Need to find someone to now mend the hole in the wall!

Still sunny here which is a surprise as it was supposed to be raining cats and dogs but not complaining.

xx

Very briefly
sleepmenot fabulous to hear from you
muppet you needed to turn on the taps to empty the system after you turned the water off at the stopcock...I speak as the daughter of a plumber who was trained as a plumbers mate from infancy ....and that was just what you wanted to hear now the damage has been done isn't it? Terrible the mess it can make...I hope the insurance pay up quickly and you can get back to normal.

The quote for the garden was much more reasonable...he quoted for all the materials and equipment hire separately so we could chose the DIY route and then added £700 if we wanted him to do it...he's got the job!and we might have a usable space by the end of Summer!!wooohoo!!!We have spent the weekend removing the sheds and the last of the shrubs and tonight had a bonfire/bbq party to get rid of the debris...2 more concrete fence posts to go and the builder can start when he is ready...
off to bed now I have cleared up...will try to respond to everyone properly tomorrow...sleep well all (especially R!!!...and I though Alex was the only non-sleeper left on the thread)
