Things are going from bad to worse here. DD's cold has got really, really bad. DH took her to the GP again this morning and he just phoned to say we have to get her to the paediatrician for assessment. GP thinks it is bronchiolitis but is worried about possible pneumonia.

I am just going to very slowly shuffle to pack a bag for DD in case she has to be admitted. God, could things get any worse? I want to cry but have to be strong now.

barnpot · 11/05/2009 11:24

ponymum have a cry to get it out of your system, I usually feel stronger after a quick weep,(and Ive been doing a lot lately)
things will get better keep your chin up

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/05/2009 11:24

Oh Ponymum

Have a good sob, get it out of your system. Then you'll bounce back into mummy mode and get things packed.

I hope your dd gets better soon and remember to look after yourself as much as you can.

Ponymum - you poor thing - hope your lo is OK

Sunshinemummy · 11/05/2009 11:31

Ponymum so sorry to hear this - I hope she gets better soon.

DS had pneumonia when he was older, about 32m. His temperature rocketed and he felt so hot he was burning through his clothes. We were on the train back from a Christening at the time so as soon as we landed at KX we walked up to UCH and he was admitted after they x-rayed him and found a shadow on his lung. It was very scary - he had to have oxygen and intravenous anti-bitotics but he was well enough to come home the next day and had to have a week at home with me and take oral a-bs.

I hope your DD gets better soon. It's frightening but she should be ok with treatment.

imoscarsmum · 11/05/2009 11:37

ponymum can't ofer anything but words of support. Times like these will show you just what strength you and DH have.
Willing lots of get better vibes your way, hugs.

barnpot · 11/05/2009 12:42

hi just a quick note, cos I'm so excited, els has just pulled himself up into a sitting position. I know its not much but its so promising for me that hes doing stuff like this.

splishsplosh · 11/05/2009 13:09

Barnpot - v exciting news, well done Els Do you mean holding onto your hands or some other way? Cos C can do that if she holds my fingers, but otherwise once she's on her back she's stranded (especially as still no rolling), so sounds great progress!

Anyone else for cCroydon meet up by the way? Hopefully?

Hopefully · 11/05/2009 13:20

Ponymum poor you, hope both you and DD are feeling better soon.

T has been 'sleeping through' (in my mind this means 1-2 resettlings from 10pm-6am, and no feeds) for almost a week. In that time he's cut one tooth and I can see a second one below the gum. So he couldn't sleep through me and DP whispering as we climbed into bed a few weeks ago, and now he can sleep through a tooth growing through the gum

ILTMIMI I'll find the focaccia recipe in a bit and post it - it's from Rachel Allen's Bake book, which is bloody brilliant, I've made loads from it and not had a single failure.

T is going to the childminder's tomorrow, for five hours, which I think is the longest I've ever left him for, with anyone (including DP). I'm not very nervous though, which I think means I've made a good choice of childminder [hopeful emoticon]

CarrieBo · 11/05/2009 13:58

ponymum We'll add a few glasses of wine to the lunch I owe you once you're all recovered! York hospital were really great when ds was in with bronchiolitis (although we didn't have to be admitted thankfully) so your dd is in the best of hands. Hope she gets better really soon, likewise I hope you do too

We now have a croydon plan. Wednesday 13th (day after tomorrow!) at starbucks in Centrale, 11:45 for coffee, lunch and cake. splish, NC and I will be there...any other takers?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 11/05/2009 14:34

GO ELS!! That news brought a huge to my face Barnpot, so gawd knows how you are feeling

Thanks for that hopefully, I caught some of her Bake series on tv (she is the Irish lady isn't she?)

What are you going to do with yourself for 5 hours?

OP posts:
DebiTheScot · 11/05/2009 15:00

oh no, big hugs pony, hope dd gets better soon. poor you.

Well done Els sounds like he's more advanced than quite a few of our babies. ds2 hasn't shown any signs of doing that.

Wish me luck for tomorrow, I've got to take both boys on my own into London on a packed commuter train and then get across to City airport and then on a flight on my own. Should be ok as long as ds1 behaves.
Quite amazing to think that we'll leave here after breakfast and be at my mum and dads, 500 miles away, for lunch!

CarrieBo · 11/05/2009 15:13

I think of you tomorrow debi as I spend 5 hours driving to Croydon, I'll wave as you fly overhead!

barnpot · 11/05/2009 15:20

thanks everyone I'm holding his hands with his arms straight, and hes bringing his head forward then pulling with his arms to sit. he wouldn't sit unaided but this is so much better than throwing himself backwards at every oppertunity.II'm still on such a big high with him love him sssooooooooo much!

Debs75 · 11/05/2009 15:32

What a week Ponymum hope dd is better soon, and you of course.

Robyn can now roll on to her stomach and then back on to her back. She looked very shocked when she landed back on her back. She also like to pull herself to sitting but she doesn't stay there that long. She can sit astride my knee for ages but when it's a flat surface she has no balance. Well done ELS

Sunshinemummy · 11/05/2009 16:28

Barnpot you can do 'Row row' with him now. DD loves it - especially when we scream!

Pacita · 11/05/2009 17:13

Hello ladies, I have just had 3 days worth of catch up, and boy, what a roller coaster!

First of all, Jesus, Ponymum, when it doesn't rain it pours. I hope DD recovers quickly. I bet you the pneumonia diagnosis is an exageration. At any rate, here are some huge healing vibes for you both.

Debs, so sorry for your loss. I hope the funeral gives you and your family the chance to comfort each other and celebrate your gran's life.

Starlight, welcome back!

I have some news: Today I took Diego to nursery for the first time. The intention is that he will stay there for three days a week, as I ease myself back to work (DG, Sunshine and others back at work, do you feel your professional self-confidence is at an all time low?)

The nursery is inside the university campus, where my partners company is located. They have 9 children under 2, which are supervised by 3 adults. The place seemed totally chaotic, with stuff all over the place, children sleeping in blankets on the floor, nobody being able to tell me whether I had a place or not (apparently they offered my place to someone else, but they are not sure they've taken it or not), and confusing instructions being issued regarding lunch time. None of the nursery staff speak English as a first language (neither do I for that matter, but I found it difficult to understand the Nigerian lady in charge). The Polish assistant looked like she was about to have a nervous break down and systematically mangled all the nursery rhymes that she chanted, like some sort of broken record mantra. I was supposed to be doing a settling session, but the manager forgot what that entailed, so I just hung about, then she chucked me out when she remembered that I should not be there during nap times. Bizarre. On the other hand, all the ladies seemed very affectionate with the kids, so I think I'll come back. This being my PFB and all that, maybe I'm being unreasonable. Are all nurseries like this? And do they all have a pervasive smell of poo? cos this one certainly did.

Other than that, Diego is now 8.5 kg. He has gone from the 9th to the 50th percentile in 2 months. Am I overfeeding him? I give him lunch, tea and dinner, plus boob on demand.

His sleep is not bad, but it's not great either. He has fallen into a pattern of one wake at about 2 (bloody killer), and one feed at about 4.

When o when will he sleep through? Hopefully, can I have some of those pills you've been feeding T?

Pacita · 11/05/2009 17:14

Oh, and what's happening re: norht london meet up? Anyone still up for it?

barnpot · 11/05/2009 17:59

I will try that sunshinemummy

becaroo · 11/05/2009 18:25

barnpot Fab news!! Toby loves it when I do "ride a cock horse" and jig his arms up and down as if he is riding a horse (IYSWIM??)

ponymum So sorry to hear about your LO Been there more times than I care to remember with ds1....hope she is better soon x

Pc back online thank god! Cant work laptops...they hurt my brain (such as it is)

imoscarsmum · 11/05/2009 21:08

Pacita on paper, I would run screaming for the hills from your nursery. But, that's on paper - if you have a good vibe about it, trust your instincts. However, ask to see their most recent Ofsted (I think?) report or search online for it. DD is going to nursery in grounds of our local college and it always has a waiting list and exhibits none of the characteristics you mention.......

imoscarsmum · 11/05/2009 21:10

Oh and C adores row row row your boat. She screams with laughter. She also bounces up and down astride my leg - so much fun.

digitalgirl · 11/05/2009 22:13

ponymum hope your DD gets better quickly, can't believe you're having to go through this all at once.

barnpot hooray for els!

As for mobility, DS fell off the bed yesterday (DH was supposed to be watching). He's grazed his chin. I was in the shower, heard a thump and then crying. I knew exactly what had happened. DS has this urge to launch himself off the bed, sofa, my lap. He hasn't quite mastered crawling, but he pulls himself around in a circle and then occasionally pushes on his legs. But never co-ordinates the two.

pacita erm, I've only been to see two nurseries and neither of them smelt of poo. But how was Diego? Did he seem to be enjoying himself? If so, then that's half the battle. And today, yes, I felt a bit lacking in confidence, but I'm hoping that with a bit more time I'll remember how to do everything again.

Am still up for a N London meet-up, my free days keep shifting. I might be able to do this Thursday...anyone else?

Sunshinemummy · 12/05/2009 10:03

Another good night here. Banana at 18:30. dream feed at 22:00 and turning off the baby monitor so I don't hear every toss and turn are really working. She gets up at 6am but hey ho!

This morning we'd left Effy on the bed with DS while DP was in bathroom and I got DS's clothes out in bedroom next door. I could hear her crying but it sounded strangely muffled so I went in and DS had a pillow over her head and was pushing it down to stop her crying. I'm afraid I went mad at him, cuddled her and then burst into tears! I know he's only 3 but surely he mus know he's hurting her.

Pacita re. your nursery I'm afraid I would also walk away. We visited a nursery for DS that was similarly chaotic and we didn't feel at all comfortable about it. DS's current nursery is really well organised and we still get the affection from the staff.

Also re. professional self-confidence because this is my second time I haven't felt it's low at all. First time round I did get some of that but not this time. I guess I'm also in the strange position that I haven't gone back to my old job as they made me redundant so I had to find this new job and I was pretty confident that I'd done a good job in the interview. In addition, all the feedback I'm getting is really good so I'm feeling pretty good about work in general. Sorry if that doesn't help, but from last time I can tell you that the lack of confidence does pass. Once you're back you'll soon find yourself right back in it.

digitalgirl one thing we did with DS which really really worked was teach him to go feet first off everything. So everytime he looked like he was going to launch himself off something we spun him round and recited 'feet first' like a mantra. It didn't take him long to catch on and it was so helpful.

Hopefully · 12/05/2009 10:29

Eek, I am 'at work'. Technically, of course, I'm at home in front of my laptop, but T is at the childminder's, and I am meant to be earning my keep. I feel slightly like my right arm has been chopped off!

Now I just need to get my brain firing and make a million pounds from freelancing...
