5, I think she means if you had another one you'd be sixgomadindorset!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 23/03/2009 19:35

I remember Dylansmum and am pretty sure she saw a chiropractior and found it very useful. Sorry you are suffering sponge. P&P Good to see you back again! After my last mc I was so foucused on trying again I don't think I really took in what had happened.

Neenz I would be annoyed with my IL's if I was in your situation but would think of it as them losing out on time spent with the granchildren.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 23/03/2009 19:56

I am sure someone wrote stories about 6 kids maybe we will just have to get another dog or a cat and become the secret seven

DebInAustria · 23/03/2009 20:12

Puree - glad to see you back and thanks for the comments on the Kiddy car seat, does it seem strange not having the 5 point harness? It's been around for a few years here but i have found mixed reviews from parents, and great safety reviews. Some said they thought 9kg was a bit small to be starting using the seat - what do you think?

DebInAustria · 23/03/2009 20:14

Sponge - hope Osteo appointment gives you some relief

PenguinProject · 23/03/2009 21:16

[PP pops her head in and waves at everyone].

P&P - so sorry to hear about your MC.

systemsaddict · 23/03/2009 21:41

sponge one of the most important things I did to keep going through the SPD was to do the absolute bare minimum of walking. It was a bit of a shame for ds as we did hardly any park trips or anything but I figured that having a sibling coming made it worth it! (and it has ). The SPD was guaranteed to flare up any time I did any significant walking so I just didn't. I panicked when it first kicked in - how could we manage months like this? - but we did manage, and a few months living the quiet life hasn't done him any lasting harm, as far as I can see!

So: no more long zoo trips for a little while please! [wags finger sternly] [gets cotton wool back out]

PenguinProject · 23/03/2009 21:46

Sponge - DO NOT TRY PREGNANCY YOGA. I was SPD-less until I decided that I needed to get ready for labour by trying yoga (ahhh, how naive I was), the following day my SPD started. I went down the physio route, it was very nice and relaxing but didn't make that much difference.

systemsaddict · 24/03/2009 06:38

how are you doing PP?

DebInAustria · 24/03/2009 08:44

Morning - how are you all today?

spongebrainbigpants · 24/03/2009 08:57

SA, I know, you're right . My SPD feels so much better this morning because I did nothing yesterday. It's just so hard because I am generally such an active person and the thought of 7 mths of inactivity makes me shudder. But, needs must . . . .

PP, thanks for the tip on yoga too - I did try it last time round but had a similar experience to you so gave up pretty quickly!

How are things with you anyway?

Morning Deb!

It's very quiet on here at the moment - where has everyone gone?

whinegums · 24/03/2009 09:04

Hello all. Also interested in views on car seats, we'll need to get the next one soon. No way the Maxi Cosi will last until B is 15 months, we'll be lucky if it will do until he's a year old.

He is very mobile now - cracked crawling on Sunday, and can get EVERYWHERE, and v quickly too. He's also trying to pull himself up. Babyproofing seems to be futile. His favourite thing is to pull the corner protectors off tables...

Viva, hope C is better.

systemsaddict · 24/03/2009 09:43

LOL @ corner protectors, yes I remember fitting these first time round ... they made great toys ....

spongebrainbigpants · 24/03/2009 09:51

I won't bother with corner protectors then!! He'll just have to learn from experience!

DebInAustria · 24/03/2009 09:55

Ironing done and I'm bored now, shouldn't be as there's loads I could be doing but nothing I want to do iykwim!

DebInAustria · 24/03/2009 09:56

I think stair gates, plug protectors (where they can reach)and non slip mat in the bath are the only safety things I've bought.

spongebrainbigpants · 24/03/2009 10:18

We've got plug protectors, a stair gate at the top of the stairs and one across our utility area where the cat food is, and a fire guard because we have an open hearth that Alex had started climbing into !

That's it. And obviously have moved major dangers like low level ornaments that he will try and eat!

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 24/03/2009 10:26

I know we really should put up stair gates but the DD's will leave them open and they never really felt sucure when we had them up for dd2. DD1 found ds halfway up the stairs yesterday so we do need to get a move on with it!

PenguinProject · 24/03/2009 11:47

Looking like a good day today thank you systems. In general, things not improving that much tho, in fact they're getting worse (only left the house once in the last three days). However hopefully this time next week I will be on some new anti depressants and getting back to normal.

Plug protectors and cupboard lock things here. Won't bother with corner protectors now, thank you for the advice. Any suggestions for washing machines? R has worked out how to open ours...luckily it locks when on.

I'm also interested in a new carseat. Saw one on argos via the promotions/money saving thread which said suitable from 9 month - 11 years. That seemed a very long time to me!

Deb - As you're online anyway, perhaps you should do some shopping? For fun stuff for you I mean, not cornflakes!

pureeandpearls · 24/03/2009 12:25

Good to see you PP, and glad too. PND is jolly hard- don't worry about not leaving the house- it's why the good Lord invented the interweb and Sky+!!

Sponge- entirely concur with the no-yoga thing. Learn to love your sofa!!

CM has already told me not to bother with corner-protectors as they don't stay on. I clearly have an accident-prone child anyway, judging by the number of times I have to sign forms at nursery, so pretecting is not really going to help much. We have a fireguard which babypearls thinks is a fab toy, so that was a good investment. We have plug protectors which fascinate the dog and we already had dog gates, which are just perfect for pulling yourself up on....

5- yes, I was trying to be funny about sixgomadindorset. I was never destined for a career in comedy.

Debs- I love the Kiddy- it's odd having no five-point harness, but it's no more of a battle getting her in it than other seats I would say that the toys get in the way when you strap them in so ditch those immediately. And the fact that it's not fixed to the car means it's easy to get in nd out for going in granny's car/giving others lifts etc. I wouldn't say that she seemed too small for it at slightly under 9kg and she LOVES finally being able to face forwards. Those friends that have one are generally very impressed (oh, and the tummy bar is wipe-clean, which is super for in-car snacking!) For safety and price, it's a great investment, but it's like pushchairs and all the other paraphenalia- it has to suit your life and your needs (P&P tries to make non-Kiddy owners feel better!)

Did Imiss anyone?

Hi all!

We have a Tobi car seat that we really love and seems to keep Luke happy. He never cries in it and has a lovely sleep. I'll upload a picture.

P&P - welcome back hun looking forward to seeing you and your family this weekend.

Essie - Yes are P&P and I still looking after Junior? Got it in the diary.

SPD - I got it but not until 7 months as I was the size of a satellite. It was horrid and the only way I didn't get pain was to sit on my fat backside and do nowt. By the end of the pregnancy I couldn't even walk as far as the shops but I wasn't wheelchair/crutches bound or anything.

PP - hello chuck - we have missed you xx

Me - well I have not posted much as the sleep battle with Luke is getting worse and worse. For a few nights now he has woken up and screamed for 2 hours non stop. Tried the controlled crying route and are mid CC at the mo but it is rubbish lying in bed listening to your baby wail at 2am and then getting up at 5.30 to do a day's work night after night. Hideous. I am going to get him checked out by a doc to rule out any physical problems. If CC doesn't work I am going to look into a sleep consultant. More £££.

Hope everyone had a lovely mummies day. Mine was foul brought about by lack of sleep and an extremely grumpy child. Hey ho!

neenztwinz · 24/03/2009 13:23

Did you take him to get his ears checked Amber or do you not think that is what it is? Hope the doc can find something wrong (IYSWIM!).

I am a bit tired cos I went out for a meal last night with DH and drank two thirds of a bottle of wine. Lightweight! When we got back at 10.15pm MIL was in nursery with T and said he had been crying for two hours! I took him off her, gave him a quick cuddle, put him down and never heard another peep out of him till 7.30am. Just call it mummy's magic touch. E slept through too.

Amber, I know what you mean about lying in bed listening to them cry. Sometimes E still wakes up at 2 or 3am and I have to listen to her cry, but it is rarely more than 30mins now, and she is a lot calmer than she was. Hope it works for Luke.

The DTs are still in their infant carriers too. A fortnight ago they were only 20lb and 18.5lb anyway. I don't think the seats will last till 13kg though like they are supposed to.

On the childcare front, I was shocked today to get the info from the nursery - it is £4 if you want them to stay from 5.30pm to 6pm! What's that all about? So it would be £74 a day! When I rang them I said 9.30-4.30 cos I thought PILS would take them at 4.30 and was told £33 a day, never thought it would be more just for the last half an hour. She said £33 was for all day . So I might be more keen on that CM now, she would be £68 a day. Not that price is the important thing of course, but if the CM is good then I'll go with her and save myself £50 a month thanks very much. Anyone else have this post-5.30pm rip-off at nursery?

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 24/03/2009 13:34

Didn't realise that Nuseries did that Neenz!

S is still in his baby carseat, his head is about 2 or 3 cms from the top so we will need one soon. He's definatley over 9kg's now but is so happy with his seat and it's safer I don't feel the need to move him.

neenztwinz · 24/03/2009 13:38

My local car safety forum told me that the infant carriers are OK until their eyes are level with the top of the seat, so it is safe even if their head is popping over the top slightly. I suppose as long as the majority of their head is still supported it is OK. My two seem to love their seats too so I am happy for them to stay in (though I tend to just take the DTs out and leave the seats in the car as they are so heavy now)

Amberc · 24/03/2009 13:58

Luke HATED his seat and is much happier now. I think he just wanted to look out of the window which he does for ages. he likes buses

Well I am taking Luke to the doctor specifically to check his ears. I am fairly sure they won't find anything.

My nursery closes at 6pm and if you are late anything from 6.01 to 6.15 they charge you £50 and £50 for ever subsequent 15 mins!!!!
