Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Rolf · 21/03/2009 14:25

I'm afraid that Viva is a doctor, so not normal at all

Yes, you're quite right about silver linings. I'm glad he's busy. He can pay for my vascular and orthopaedic surgery

BDQ glad you got your work finished. Can't imagine having the mental faculties or discipline to do that these days.

DebInAustria · 21/03/2009 14:31

lol Neenz - are you sure you want another? Man that is!

Rolf - You're a brave woman - exposing your bunion, boobs secrets and also taking 4 dc's out for lunch. hope your dh will be looking after you tomorrow

Whinegums - Madrid sounds great

BDQ - congratulations on the assignment

Sponge -how are you feeling? Still sick?

Sybil - nowhere close to standing here but lots of teeth!

This week we have our first MN guests, it's not an actual MNetter, but her dh and 2 of their children. I've pulled out all the stops and put out lots of toys for the children etc , hoping for a review on MN!!

Happy 1st Mother's Day tomorrow everyone, mine's in May sometime

DebInAustria · 21/03/2009 14:31

lol Rolf, glad you put Neenz out of her misery!!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 15:24

That Viva is def not normal. I've met her. Not normal at all. Dont tell her I said so though eh?

Thanks all - am delighted assignment finished. Now desperately need to catch up on some housework when all I want to do is slob in front of the tv with some chocolate. Actually what I really want to do is go for a walk with DH and S because its lovely out. How do people find the time to get out and about at the weekend - if we dont have fixed plans we're always running around trying to clean up (and never ever finishing).

neenz does your DH know you are off out to pick up men?

spongebrainbigpants · 21/03/2009 16:07

I didn't realise you didn't know viva was a doctor Neenz!!

BDQ, get out in the sunshine girl, the bloody housework can wait!

Deb, I am still feeling v sick, thank you for asking . Struggling a little bit to be completely honest, but don't like to moan as I know I am phenomenally lucky to be in this position and many of the friends I have made through my IF journey would give all their worldly possessions to swap places with me . Just so so so tired .

Anyway, need to snap out of it - off to do some cooking for Alex and try and widen his repertoire!

abdnhiker · 21/03/2009 16:47

Rolf my DH has the oldest man-feet on a thirty-something ever.... All from too much exercise he says. I offered to get him a pedicure but the GP told him to try a podiatrist .

Rolf and sybil I definitely have problems with the pin money job - especially since I still work in a relatively high level, but in government instead of academia (better paid) or industry (triple my salary). DH is wonderful at trying to make me feel okay about it, and really thanks me for keeping the family going, but still....

bdq we went out first (a walk, then coffee, then I went for a bike ride) - now we're struggling to get the chores done!

sponge struggling is normal - i really found the first trimester exhausting and my DS1 was already 16 months by your stage! Don't feel like you can't admit to feeling tired and overwhelmed just because you're feeling lucky - they are not incompatible emotions!

Happy Mother's Day everyone, especially first-timers I'm so going to church tomorrow because I've heard rumours that the kids made gifts for us last week... DH stayed with the boys in Sunday Club too so he would have been there to help...

PiggyPenguin · 21/03/2009 17:19

Sponge if you find something that Alex really likes then let us know, J is stuck on cheesy broccoli at the moment. The day he goes off cheesy broccoli we will be in serious trouble!

Neenz - I think high-powered may be over selling it but it was fun, well paid and often stressful. I don't regret giving it up though. I wouldn't get home until 7 at night which would mean having the kids in childcare for 11 hours a day and I just coudn't do it. It would be even harder now as they have such a lot of after school activities (Ballet, Rainbows, Beavers, Tae Kwondo and Guitar lessons) which they wouldn't be able to do if they were in childcare and I do think it is important for them to have that opportunity. They gain so much confidence from them and have great fun. I have a friend who worked through her kids early years and then gave up when they got to school as she found they couldn't do the activities they really wanted to do with their friends. It is always a really hard choice and it is totally down to the individual. I wouldn't mind a 'pin-money' job at all though. I made my choice a long time ago and I stand by it. I have loved being at home with the kids (and as we speak can't wait for Jamie to get going with Jo Jingles, Tumble Tots and Talking Tots) and I wouldn't have missed it for anything.

Deb - go on girl, you brag up Ethans' teeth. We still only have one point. We have had that for a couple of weeks now and wait for its arrival with eager antipation. For a boy who doesn't like puree its very hard to chew anything without teeth!

systemsaddict · 21/03/2009 17:59

rolf was it just you and all 4 kids? Respect! We've just been out for lunch with PIL who arrived with (a surprise) our nephew and niece in tow, aged 3 and 1. We did have a lovely lunch but at times it felt like there weren't enough adults for children even having 1:1! was lovely though, surprisingly civilized and the cousins do adore getting together. We did the right thing and wore them all out with a long walk first so they didn't have the energy to run round the pub - but unfortunately Liam and Caitlin are both asleep now we're home so bedtime may end up being some way off ...

neenz am stunned your dh offered to give away his Anfield ticket, he's a keeper that one!

Poor Caitlin already has old lady feet, she was born with slight bunions and curled-under little toes, courtesy of my mum's genes.

Rolf · 21/03/2009 18:44

Caitlin's feet. Mine are due to genes rather than wearing unsuitable shoes. But wearing comfy mumsy shoes for the past few years has made dressy shoes practically unwearable.

Yes, it was just me with the 4 children. On bad days I am scared to go out of the house but most of the time we are fine. I get really embarassed when DD1 kicks off in public, especially somewhere like a cafe where people are spending their hard-earned money and want to relax, not listen to screaming children. She was really very good until the last few minutes, but the noisy minutes are the ones people remember.

Amberc · 21/03/2009 19:38

Sybil, the nursery said Luke stood unaided for a few seconds but he certainly hasn't repeated it in front of me I must say!

Food wise, I have found out that Luke much prefers adult food so today he had some Lamb casserole I made minus salt (REALLY bland without salt!!) and he loved it and ate the whole thing and for supper he had gnocci boiled until they are really soft with a cheese sauce and he really enjoyed that too. Two things that babies tend to like - pasta and potato combined in a mashable bite sized piece. Love it

I cannot comment on academics as to be honest I am as thick as pigshit but just try hard to disguise it! I am very proud at how clever our thread is though! I will definitely post with any crossword answers I can't get (most of them).

I had a lovely mummies day treat today. Luke got me a spa experience and I had a salt scrub, massage and facial. I can't keep my eyes open now though and will deffo be in bed at 8. Mark is going to get Luke up in the morning so I can have a nice lie in and he's going to make me brekkie - how exciting! It will only ever hapen once a year from now on so I intend on making the most of it. Happy mother's day to everyone for tomorrow.

PS Sponge - don't forget loads of the babies on this thread will be Geminis too so you'll have to tell us all their traits!

bitofadramaqueen · 21/03/2009 20:57

Never got in the sunshine but the house was spectacularly bad and we had friends coming over so it had to be done. Been enjoying a nice early evening with them so didn't mind too much.

Sympathies with bad feet system -- I've inherited genetically terrible feet too. I hate mine with a passion - I'd have surgery to get nice feet if it was a viable option.

Rolf, pre ds I'd be the first to moan about noisy kids, but actually I'd only take issue (and still do) with parents who completely ignoring their kids while they run wild. I very much doubt you fall into that category.

Amber I doubt very much you are thick. I'm sure our very clever academics on here would agree that academic qualifications alone do not determine peoples intelligence.

Food wise, S is getting so much better with his pincer thing. He can now pick up and eat raisins. For those of you blw and struggling with food ideas, S really likes rice cakes, mini oat cakes etc so I load them up with a bit of mashed veg and he eats them quite happily. I did him some pasta stirred with cheese and green pesto the other day and it was pretty tasty.

DebInAustria · 21/03/2009 22:03

which car seat are you all using now? Have you moved onto the next stage yet? Neenz - did you get the Kiddy Infinity pro?

Sponge - sympathies on the tiredness , I felt so tired when first pregnant with Ethan and my other 2 were much , much older and more independent.Hopefully the tiredness will pass soon.

Abdn - enjoy church tomorrow, come and tell us what they made

Amber - Sounds like you had a lovely treat today, enjoy your lie in.

Lol Sybil - I'll brag some more then, he's got 6 teeth and I can see no's 7 and 8 waiting to pop through.

Rolf - don't worry about other people, to get 4 to sit well through lunch and for only 1 to start playing up at the end is a major feat - well done.

BDQ - glad you had a nice evening with your friends, will you get out tomorrow?

Food - Ethan has some finger food/Blw - successes are home made burgers/meatballs, pasta, home made chips/potato wedges, plums, pears, melon - not too keen on feeding himself veg though - ideas anyone?
Purees/mashed food - porridge, any sort of fruit, rice pudding (thank you Whine gums), liver, any veg with cheese sauce, pork, not too keen on chicken or fish yet.

systemsaddict · 22/03/2009 07:36

Rolf anyone who at a crying child clearly has never had children therefore has no idea what they are talking about therefore can be ignored happily! I do know what you mean and try and get mine to behave in public eating places and generally they do, but if they don't for a minute or two, well, that all comes with teaching them to be civilised human beings, and the people who would rather we lived in a child-free society would end up rather lonely in a depopulated planet in 80 years time.

Amber and here's me having felt slightly intimidated since I saw the prestigious company you work for on FB!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY EVERYONE!! we deserve a lovely day!! Caitlin woke me up at 5.50 and I offered to put her on a skateboard down the stairs to the kitchen so she could get me breakfast but she declined but we are all having a lovely morning together, I love it when the two of them are cuddling and playing

DebInAustria · 22/03/2009 08:43

Happy Mother's Day everyone

spongebrainbigpants · 22/03/2009 10:17

Amber, the spa sounds lovely! As for Gemini traits - think magpie! Never able to concentrate on one thing for long and a very low boredom threshold!

Thanks for all the sympathy on the tiredness. Deb, did you have SPD with Ethan? I do remember at least one mum on here who already had other children having SPD in their pg. Mine has come back with avengeance (sp?) already (had that familiar crack in my pelvis when I got out of bed this morning ). Just wondered how you managed.

Had a lovely lie in this morning and now having some quiet time while my boys are both asleep. Feel sad at the news about Jade's death - what a poignant day to die .

Hope everyone has a lovely day - the sun is shining again. Enjoy x

DebInAustria · 22/03/2009 11:18

Sponge - no, it wasn't me with SPD, can't remember who it was. I know Puree had it didn't she ?

spongebrainbigpants · 22/03/2009 11:25

Yes, puree had it really badly bless her - but I'm sure I remember someone talking about managing with really bad SPD and a toddler in tow? Or is my brain shrinking even more?!

My gorgeous little boy is celebrating my first Mother's Day with the longest daytime nap ever - two hours and counting! I'm almost tempted to go and wake him for a cuddle as I haven't seen him yet today!

systemsaddict · 22/03/2009 11:31

sponge I had it but not debilitatingly badly, under control with a belt and regular chiro visits. I think it was dylansmum who had it worse. IIRC they spent a lot of time at home. I recommend CBeebies, ds watched a great deal when I was pregnant!

spongebrainbigpants · 22/03/2009 11:34

Thanks SA, what happened to dylansmum?

Useful tip re CBeebies! Did you choose a chiro over osteopathy or would either be good? Want to book an appt next week.

systemsaddict · 22/03/2009 13:45

I think she said goodbye, deciding that 2 chlidren didn't leave room for regular mumsnetting! I went with the chiro as she was recommended to me, but she said if my problems were more complex than she could deal with she would refer me on to an osteo. She was fab though, kept me going throughout the pregnancy and got Caitlin into the perfect position for a lovely birth by evening up my pelvis.

systemsaddict · 22/03/2009 13:46

On the where are they now theme, does anyone know what happened to greenfairy?

DebInAustria · 22/03/2009 17:26

don't know about greenfairy, there was also calebsmum - what happened to her?

Rolf · 22/03/2009 17:37

and PearTart. I liked her.

AliandHerScallywag · 22/03/2009 22:21

Hello,

Just a quickie to say that we are back from ski-ing. We had a great time with lots of snow, sunshine and time on the slopes despite there being three babies to look after between 6 of us.

I enjoyed catching up on the thread this morning. You lot are very funny. However I am so sorry to read about your mc P&P. I am thinking of you.

Ok, gotta stop as I need some sleep.

poppy34 · 23/03/2009 01:07

just quick post from holiday -will catch up properly when I get back but couldn't post and not say so sorry P&P

also I bet I have the saddest career ..worse even than being a GP (there is no virtual tongue poking out emoticon so this will do ) -and I did history as a degree so goodness knows how I ended up as a tax accountant...
