Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
TheShipsCat · 17/04/2009 14:59

Now they are one (ish!) - what sort of characters do you all think our babes have? A's is just starting to show through, but it's hard to know what's normal for a one-year old and what's her. Could you all say what you think your baby is like now, or going to be like?

A is going to be naughty, I can really feel it. She's very mischievous and enjoys winding up dd1 don't we all. She's also very relaxed and very smiley. She doesn't cry when I leave her at nursery, and I can still pass her to anyone. She's interested in absolutely everything. She loves music, always bounces around to anything with a beat.
But I can see a little rebel emerging from the extremely sunny disposition she has now.
Also, she looks Kazakhstani, or central Asian. Which is weird because we don't.

How about yours?

EllieG · 17/04/2009 15:02

Yey for Mimi! What a clever girl x

MHAH - have a supportive hug from a fellow hating-leaving-at-nursery mum. Molly didn't cry today but yesterday I damn near broke my little heart walking away when her little face was all at me - it goes against the grain doesn't it? But they ARE fine when there, and not harmed, is just a stage and they will learn to adjust. Can I ask why you are not having another? We are not either and generally I am fine with that but sometimes I have a pang of 'Oooo I want a tiny baby again....'

EllieG · 17/04/2009 15:05

Molly sounds like A! Very relaxed, very sunny, but very feisty too! Loves music, loves people and playing and is not at all shy. She smiles at the world, and expects it to smile back (and generally it does). I hope she stays that way [soppy mummy emoticon]

Peachy · 17/04/2009 15:11

Hello all, and birthday hugs Benedict!

yes KLOL LB I do attract the weirdo's- think its a sign I spend too much time on here and cutting down.

VS- you've done the right thing.Worked in some nice homes but goodness the abd ones

MM, Bas's personality? He's not very simley at strangers but extremely happy laugh and cuddly with us; sensitive worrier would be my bet tbh. Least 'naughty' of the bunch. Probably ladies man- he flicks through catalogues stroking ladies breats LOL, thining 'menu' no doubt

TheShipsCat · 17/04/2009 15:26

lol, peachy

MommyHasaHeadache · 17/04/2009 17:45

Ha ha Peachy - you do make me laugh!

Ahh Ellie, it's so hard isn't it? On the plus side though at least she is now eating there - and she has always been able to sleep there, so that's 2 things I don't have to worry about any more.

And Ellie, We are not going to have another one because, as much as I love Gigi, and believe me I do - there is no love greater, I find her really demanding and I just don't know if I have the patience levels in me to be dealing with two. I would rather have the one and really, really enjoy her. (Disclaimer: This is just me personally - so not knocking anyone who has had more than one!) Also - the expense. We def could not afford to have another one right now. I dunno - maybe things will change a few years from now and I will feel different. I'm finally going to be seeing a councellor about the birth, etc, and my Dr reckons I will feel different once I have all these emotions under control and sorted.

Right, Gigi's personality is a very happy, inquisitive one. She seems to love other children and has no problem approaching them to play. She also loves music and bops along to it quite merrily. She def knows her own mind and will not do anything she does not want to do. Gets that stubborn streak from her Dad! I think she will be an extravert when older and I will def encourage this. She loves her toys and her books, and can entertain herself quite happily. I don't think she is a mommy's girl or a daddy's girl - I think she is happy to spend time with us equally. I'm sure it is was DH dropping her off at creche, she would still cry. I also thnk she is competitive, as she always has to try do what the other babies are doing, and will keep doing it until she can. And like you TSC, I can also see a little rebel in the making. I just know she is going to be one the one's at the back of the class getting up to mischief!

Denny185 · 17/04/2009 19:58

MHAH, after DD1 we questioned what we had done and how much it altered ours lives, didnt help that she screamed pretty much for a whole year. it took us quite a while to decide on no 2 but would def say its much easier as you have a good idea of the demands that come from the first year with a LO.

Peachy, stay away from the dark side, just stick with this thread and you'll never comea cropper with wierdo's again

Will return DD1 needs help with homework.

Denny185 · 17/04/2009 20:34

Knitter, how did the b-day go?

I think Soph will be on Easter hols, does she only have access to a pc whilst shes at school?

VS, glad u decided to stick with childcare. Even though the trike for A was too big at least they remembered his b-day, my in-laws completely forgot, as in completely not just a few days late. The joys of an alcoholism eh?

Personality types, on the whole i'd say a v happy and jolly baby but she is bloody minded and if she wants to do/get something she will push/pull/crawl over any other children in her way regardless of age/size.

SalLikesCoffee · 17/04/2009 22:18

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Babybee, happy birthday to you!!! :D

Hello everybody. Sorry I haven't really chatted lately, but have been catching up on all your news lately.

Well, baby personalities:
Roelof is going to be one difficult little one boy, I can see it now! Apparently (lies, all lies ) he's exactly like me - he's very clear on what he wants and likes, and if he changes his mind, you can stand on your head, you wouldn't be able to persuade him to switch you way. He also gets frustrated (and then very cross) if something doesn't want to work - e.g. if he can't get his walker thingy turned around or if it gets stuck. He's also very social - loves other people, laughs most of the time, and copies everything we do at the moment. Dh and myself laugh often, so it's really funny to see R doing these fake laughs at the moment! That then makes us laugh, followed by him actually laughing. We're simple minds, clearly easily amused!

I don't definitely know about another child yet. I think so, but not sure about when, to wait until we live closer to family, or what. Sometimes I consider just going ahead, worry about the finances etc later, but then I have evenings when both dh and myself end up working until 1am after R's gone to sleep, and I think I might actually die if I slept less. Then again, if I gave up working completely, I'm not really sure we can afford another - the fact that we have to actually pay for every single time we need to go out / work late / R is sick on a nursery day as no family support around, makes it even harder. Oh, I don't know.

Am going to have a bath now, my feet are freezing!

SalLikesCoffee · 17/04/2009 22:26

Ooh, btw, if anyone has a Lidl around - they sell this caramel waffles (another brand, but it's the same) for just over £1, and it is lovely. Costs a fortune in Starbucks, and last time I bought a packet in Belgium I think it was around ?3 - ?4.

Oh, and they do a coffee yoghurt. Sounds strange but is brilliant.

Now really off to go and get myself smelling all nicely!

ScorpiowithabigS · 18/04/2009 10:02

Mimi is a veryh appy girl, and will be like the others i expect - quite obedient and very loving, huggy kissy type children. She knows what she wants though.

She is 1 today

And as for more children - bring it on!!

SalLikesCoffee · 18/04/2009 14:44

Happy birthday, Mimi!!!! Scorpio, hope you're having a wonderful day now you're all together again!

LadyBee · 18/04/2009 21:40

Happy Birthday Mimi and WOW re walking (ok I know some babies have been walking for ages but I always think of Mimi and BabyB as on a par and he's not there yet )

We have had two lovely days and there's still another day of weekend to go. Friday DP and I had the day off. We'd originally organised a BBQ but weather was rubbish and friends ended up not being able to make it so we decided to go to the Aquarium instead. Oops, big mistake, last day of holidays . Was absolutely rammed but we did it, B was fine, Looooved the fish, wasn't fazed by the crowds and noise. Then lunch at Giraffe and home to bake a cake while B napped. DP's brother came around completely laden with presents...I had to giggle, he bought one of these, he'd come straight from work - imagine a suited young professional guy, carrying big blue plastic rocking horse on rush hour on the london underground. And then keeping it under his desk all day
B loves everything he got (which was far too much), and discovered the joy of chocolate cake before flaking out.
We had a picnic with friends in Greenwich park this afternoon - lucky with the weather this time - about 5 friends with babies and 4 without so nice to have mix of babytalk and gossip over some wine on a sunny day.

The only downer for the day was that I think Benedict might have decided that now he's a big old 1 year old, he's not interested in BFing. He gave me two great big bites, absolutely refused to latch on. Then contentedly downed 8 oz of formula/milk mix and cuddled up before falling asleep. I was a big soggy mess, dripping tears all over him. Am not sure what to do tomorrow, will just play it by ear I think. I was starting to think about stopping but hadn't thought it would be right now - but there are reasons why it might be good to stop now. I guess I'll see whether he seems upset if I offer a bottle first tomorrow night.

Mammoth post..sorry ladies, very self involved at the moment.

KnitterInTheNW · 18/04/2009 23:07

LadyBee, I completely sympathise with how you're feeling. George refused 3 weeks before his birthday and hasn't had any since. I'm still a bit sad about it, but we've changed his bedtime routine a bit so that we have a long cuddle and quiet chat about the day so there's still the lovely snuggly bit just before bed. I can't believe that was only 6 weeks ago, it feels like much longer. I do miss bfing. Keep offering though, he might just surprise you. If he doesn't, you'll get to where I am with it now. Still wish he was bfing, but proud of myself that we managed for so long and really enjoyed it. The thing I'm still finding it hard to get my head round was that I didn't know that his last feed was his last feed.

It does feel a bit like it's the end of the world though, doesn't it?

VictorianSqualor · 18/04/2009 23:52

Just a quick post.
Happy Birthday Mimi!!!

Panda is def cutting down his feeds, he has two or three sucks and then finds something else to do I'm going to be proud of what I achieved rather than sad it has ended though, I've decided!! You did fabulous to get so far anyway ladies. Every one of you that wanted to breastfeed did so until something made it no longer possible. That's a HUGE achievement.

OP posts:
chipmonkey · 19/04/2009 00:23

Happy Birthday Mimi!

Well, Harry is still bfing happily, refusing bottles at the moment because of teething but also giving me the occasional nip I'm hoping to see out his 2nd birthday with a bf but you never can tell with babies, can you?

Am a bit concerned about his lack of mobility. He can get to where he wants to go but doesn't crawl in a conventional way more a mix of crawling and rolling. Will deffo not be walking any time soon! Talking is coming along nicely, though.

ScorpiowithabigS · 19/04/2009 09:48

I miss BF still, you know. looking so forward to doing it again.

Going out for the day to St. Ives with friends, no children!!

Peachy · 19/04/2009 14:34

Big hugs Mimi!

Yep geting nips too-cold combined with 2 more teeth ouch! He stillwont take a bottlethugh, and beakers are 2 drops as a novelty and then no chance.

He;s starting words a bit though- has added an intonated version of thank you 9although its when we give him summat LOL) to Quack dada and mamaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

KnitterInTheNW · 19/04/2009 15:04

George's 2nd tooth poked through a couple of days ago!

Words, we have mama, dada and nana (banana!) When he's interested in something he points at it with all his fingers (hasn't figured out pointing with one yet) and says 'ma'. No idea what that's meant to be, but it's consistent!

Went out to buy him some lighter trousers this week, had to buy more 6-9 month ones as 9-12 are still miles too big. And still had to turn some of them up!

Being outside is interesting at the moment, he's terrified of anything that makes a noise. Scared of birds tweeting, aeroplanes going over, dogs barking, cars going by, everything. Trying to ignore it as much as we can (unless he's screaming scared obviously!) and hoping it's just a phase.

VictorianSqualor · 19/04/2009 18:41

Hey all.
Had Panda's uncle over with his pressie today. He is footie mad so had him a shirt made with the number his own shirt has in his footie team and the name Panda lol!
We don't really follow football but he looks really cute, and soooo grown up here (and slightly reminiscent of George Bush) and here.

Been a productive few weeks with the kids off, have a huge new vegetable selection growing, been to a few nice places (theme parks/wildlife parks etc) painted DD's bedroom and DP has perfected his bread making, lol. Looking forward to new job tomorrow, not so much leaving Panda though, thank goodness I adore his CM!!!

EllieG · 19/04/2009 20:22

You've all been busy! What nice posts, I like hearing about what all the babies are like

Happy birthday for yesterday Mimi! Sorry I missed it

And happy birthday to Cameron and Oliver Michael too x

Ladybee - so sorry you are feeling down about babybee not bf so much. I can't help much but repeat what others have said, you've done amazingly well, and is fantastic achievement. Also, agree with what knitter said - cos of my lack of bf I have always made sure when I put Molly to bed (ie every night!) I make sure I build in really close cuddly time for us and we get that close connection time. Is not same, but still lovely.

Molly says lots but I'm not sure if any of it is meant - we get a lot of 'duck!' (sometimes around ducks, sometimes around other birds, sometimes just because) and daddadadadad and mamamamamam (not often at me sadly) and 'egg' (?) and 'baby' (said with slight northern accent, strangely enough)

Awwwww...at panda...bless his little cotton socks in his little shirt

VictorianSqualor · 19/04/2009 20:24

Hmm didn't give right pics.

Pandaman George Bush and Cute

LadyBee · 19/04/2009 20:34

Oh VS, what have you done! just showed the shirt to DP and he's gone all gooey

Knitter, BabyB does exactly the same - points and says 'ma' - I take it as a compliment that he thinks of me as the slave person who meets needs. He's got pointing with one finger down and points to lots of things in books, himself, me, nose, ears, head, etc.
We had fun on the trike outside today, he laughs madly as we push him around the washing line.
We've also been gardening and have the veges in, but I'm not sure my flower growing attempts are going very well - I seem to get the timing wrong for everything and they get drowned, frozen, or eaten every time they poke their little heads out of the ground.

BabyB asked for about 4 gulps in the afternoon before his dinner but that was it today. I've had lots of hugs from DP and am feeling a bit more ok with the idea - I think partly because I did start thinking about when the last feed would be, so have been quite conscious of the feeds just in case. And I do feel proud. Especially when I think back to how goddamn sore I was, my god I had cracks going in three directions on my right nipple, I honestly thought I was going to lose a third of it at one point . And the feeds when i was so exhausted I had to hand off B and fall back on the bed to sleep, and the ones when he was still learning to latch and bobbing around like someone with their hands behind his back trying to eat an apple tied to a string

And I'm definitely looking forward to BFing the next one too

Peachy · 20/04/2009 09:15

Morning all

blimey tis quiet without them

Bit of a arrrrgggghhh this morning

leatransport drops off exact time the other boys finish school

so when dh isn't here I have to pull the boys early (on current shift just thursday and wednesday- just ffsas he has uni interview / interview for own ob then) but ifDh doesnt get made redundant 50% chance he'll start at 3. Whatwith that and no cm being not on a schoolrun for childcare = no job for me in next 6 years (until secondary) i'm feeling thatsomeone up there wants us in ppoverty. WTF?

TheShipsCat · 20/04/2009 10:37

Peachy - that sounds so hard. So sorry that life's so complicated.
MHAH - I really didn't want to have dd2 (she was an accident) because I found it so hard first time, but I have to admit, that although two is busy, it is somehow much easier. You don't worry half as much, you know what you need to do, and you know that one day it will get easier and you will get some sleep. I didn't sort of know that first time round. And it also helps you to remember the nice bits of dc1s early days - you forget so quickly, but it comes back to you when you are doing it again.
Also they amuse each other, which is fantastic. It sounds as though you still need time to get over the birth bit though.
CM - Harry sounds like A on the mobility side. She sort of wriggles and rolls , but really can't get too far. Are you worried? Should I worry?
Scorpio - I hope Mimi had a great birthday!
LadyBee - I read somewhere that you are meant to feel sad when you stop BFing. It's all wired into you, so it's perfectly normal - and will pass.
