hi honeymoonmummy, and welcome back

ellielou02 · 29/03/2009 21:55

Hi,
I dont know whats is wrong with me today I have actually done some ironing wonder what thats about! Lovely MIL asked me and girls up for Sunday roast was lovely!!

I would be up for book club but I am still reading the marian keyes book I got from santa clause, I read a page then next thing I know its morning, I used to read a thick book in a few days. I have loads of books I was gonna stick on ebay but the book club is a good idea. Glad your better today Daisy I hope you didnt think I was interfering .
Hello honeymoonmummy I remember your name when I was preg I had my DD on 6th nov.
Good on will barbs hope his teeth come in quick and not too much bother. On the next baby thing I was induced and epidural etc with DD1 and DD2 I def did not want to go through that again I was very lucky with 2nd birth and had DD2 within an hour of getting to MW led unit with no pain relief (wasnt time). So 2nd time for me was def easier. We only wanted 2 so thats it for me although if an accident happened I wouldnt be too upset .
Has anyone been to splash landings hotel at alton towers?? We are thinking about going next month DD1 is nearly 5 so think she would enjoy it.

chocolategal · 29/03/2009 22:04

Just time to say honeymoonmummy I saw your post about setting clock for hairdryer, I used to use a hairdryer too and sat in my DS room until it had done the job but I have now bought a CD of White noise which works just as well and saves the worry of burning the house down!

MerryMarigold · 29/03/2009 22:07

Oh cricri. thanks so so much. it was so thoughtful and I really treasure the 'marigold' card. It was the French handwriting gave it away. We English are not taught such lovely script!

I gave baby Wiss her first taste of mash today. Was obs gave me the idea. I made a mash with potato, squash and parsnip. Just gave her some tastes on my finger (I know, I know you're not supposed to mix stuff to start with, but really it was for us) and boy, did she want more! Judo spat it out though...different babies, eh? I don't know whether to give her anymore now as she seems so ready and he just doesn't. I also want to mix purees and finger food, so maybe best not to get her used to the purees. Ahhh...well. Just thought it was interesting that they were born on the same day, but so different in terms of wanting food.

LackaDAISYcal · 29/03/2009 22:08

goodness no, ellielou. If it's stuff someone knows more about than me, I'm always glad of advice

i.r.o.n.i.n.g....nope don't know what that is

twinklingfairy · 29/03/2009 22:10

Hello all, been a whiley since I was on.
Not much to tell really.
daisy I am with you with the 12,. 3.4.6 wake up calls for food, then 7.30 starts.
Why is my DS still waking so much?!
DD was sleeping through by 12 weeks!
Can't beleive that J is 21 weeks already!
Just 5 weeks, or so, until we start weaning, . . perhaps
Actually can you go beyond the 26 weeks?
Given that J was 4 weeks early, should I wait until he is 30 weeks old?

You guys are selling things on MN? I thought you had to pay £30 for that honour or am I totally misreading the gumph?
I need to sell a load too.
NCT sales seems fab, but my closest woud probably be 100 miles away[sa] If they even do the in Inverness?

I am trying to clear out. DH and I have fallen in love with a house and are desperately trying to knock this one into shape so we can sell up and ship out. I have soooo much stuff!
I am so hoping that my friend, who is due in a week or so, has a girl so that I can off load all my girls clothes. I know she would make use of them and that is so much better than just throwing them to charity or, as daisy says, spending hours on ebay.

hello to honeymoonmummy welcome back

Emmanj · 29/03/2009 22:16

ellilou glad to hear that birth 2nd time round wasnt so bad, and yeh as you guys say....its amazing how quickly you forget the hideousness of it all. Dozy and barbs, broody already!!! i know what u mean though. If youev been following the thread I currently have a 'situation' on my hands where i am waiting patiently for next period, trying not to stress, and not sure how i feel! Everyone on here's been v supportive though so time will tell!!

NCT sale went well then! might look into doing that, they go through things so quiclky dont they!

marigold - glad the mash went down well! looking forward to giving Lois some soon!

hi honeymoonmommy - i too have just re-joined the thread, was prev. on it when pg, everyone has been really welcoming

mmmmmmmm sawyer!

LackaDAISYcal · 29/03/2009 22:18

the £30 is if you are a small business twinkling. For normal small ad sellers you just have to take out the £5 CAT subscription.

I think they used to advise adjusting age when babies were weaned much earlier, but I know a few mums of preterm babies who did it around the 26 week mark. I suppose the same rules apply; if they are sitting and have lost the tongue thrust reflex and are interested, then go for it.

ikwym about the time....nearly five months already......yikes.

On time marching; we were watching a programme about Duran Duran on Sky Arts yesterday and I was telling DS1 that I was a big fan of theirs when I was a teenager and that I had seen them in concert, like....omg 25 or 26 years ago. He was standing behind me, and patted me on the shoulder saying "wow...and you can remember that long ago, well done!"

ellielou02 · 29/03/2009 22:32

LOL...........

LackaDAISYcal · 29/03/2009 22:38

sorry for sounding flippant emmanj, but you better hang onto things for the minute .
I started a thread when I was in limbo as well and it really helped.

when are you due on? You can use a first response test from about three, five at a push, days before that.

right, I am off for some lemsip and then bed.

nothing yet from bumble, so fingers crossed he drops this balrdy 11 o clock. It takes me ages to get to sleep after it.

Honeymoonmummy · 29/03/2009 22:44

Hi Ellielou, only a day apart, eh? I'll know who to ask when I think she's having a growth spurt

Chocolategal, what was the name of your CD? DH downloaded a few for free and we even tried to record the hairdryer but nothing else works!

Marigold - do you have twins??

Twinkling, I think you can go beyond the 26 weeks, I think I read somewhere that some people believe the gut isn't ready till 7-8 months.
You can find out about NCT sales in your area here

Emmanj, good luck with your 'situation', I'm with you on the Sawyer front but don't tell me what happened as I'm gonna watch it tomorrow, am feeding DD upstairs, she's really unsettled tonight.

Daisy - funny re DS1!

Emmanj · 29/03/2009 22:45

Yeh i guess your right daisy!! Due on 9th April. Its too early to test yet!! god, i cant believe im eeven writing this!!!

anyway, g'night all, off for the 11 o clock feed. by the way any advice for getting them to drop this? i currently wake DD at 10.45 ish for the feed and she goes back down till 6.30/7ish. afriend said she gets hers to do 7pm-7am without waking baby for a feed but this seems so far off where we are at the mo?!
anyway im off, ta ta xx

Oblomov · 30/03/2009 07:43

Morning.
Emmaj has atleast a week before she can even test, right ? How unbearable. Hope it goes quickly.

tegan · 30/03/2009 07:50

Good morning all, i have had a bit of an odd weekend. Got up yesterday and fed O he had a nap and by 10.30 was getting hungry, within minutes he was screaming so i offered him booby and he refused, i gave him to dhand he stopped crying and was fine so i retried. This went on for 20 mins by which time i needed to express or burst everywhere. I expressed and went to the loo when i return dh is sat on the sofa and O is having ebm from bottle (never happened before). I spent all day expressing and he was suddenly happy with bottle, then milk slowed right down so dh offered formula and O accepted this too so now he is drinking formula from a bottle and he seems to have done this himself as i kind of wanted to feed him forever.

Oblomov · 30/03/2009 08:07

How strange tegan. Like you said, as if this was what he wanted, as if it was 'meant to be' !
I was wondering, as 6 months approaches, and I want to give up bf, any tips on how to make the transition easier? I don't want engorged breasts all the time.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/03/2009 08:28

Maybe just express off the worst of it Oblomov? Tegan, has DH tried giving a bottle before? I have heard that some babies won't take the bottle from their mother?

Oblomov · 30/03/2009 08:48

I Read that too Honey. To always let bottles be done by dh to start of with. Makes sense.

Honeymoonmummy · 30/03/2009 09:13

My DD however will take anything from anyone, including me! She's on medication for reflux that tastes like earwax and just laps it up! Weaning should be interesting...

juanitad · 30/03/2009 09:45

Morning all,

Was quite pleased with what I got at the NCT sale - I didn't get anything big, just bits and pieces, lots of Pampers nappies (really like them, but always feel guilty as they are the most expensive, so end up buying supermarket own brand!). Also got quite a lot of stuff in preparation for weaning - ice cube tray thingys, plates, bowls, stuff like that, as well as a few toys. Spent a grand total of £24 and as Daisy said, my bag was chock full. I was hoping to get a high chair - there were a coupld there, one was a Chico Polly (I think), for £50 but that seemed a tad expensive to me. There's another sale in a month's time near to my parents, so I'l head along to that and see what bargains I can pick up there!

Am anticipating a crap day today, as there are workmen in the house all day putting in new radiators. I have just put P down for a nap, but the workmen are banging and crashin about and generally being loud, so I don't suppose the nap will last too long. I guess I'll be out in the pram a lot for the rest of the day!!

Quick question re: night-time feeds. P used to be pretty regular, waking twice, once at about 1ish and once at about 5ish. Then there was a week where he started to wake just once, at 3is (I thought I'd cracked it then!!) but for the past few weeks, he's been waking 3 times, about 12, 3 and 5. Is this likely to be a growth spurt? (he's 18 weeks tomorrow) I want to wait until 26 weeks if I can for solids, so not keen on making this earlier to get him to wake less, so any ideas?

juanitad · 30/03/2009 09:48

Meant to say, I'm adding myself to the list of broody ladies. There were lots of pregnant women at the NCT sale yesterday, and I found myself feeling all nostalgic about being pregnant. I'm quite keen for a 2-year age gap, DH would prefer 3 (although I think he wouldn't mind if P was our one and only), so we'll just have to wait and see...........

juanitad · 30/03/2009 09:58

As predicted, he's awake!! Bum.

LolaBella · 30/03/2009 10:06

Totally normal Juanitad in fact just hope it doesn't regress further. My LO has gone from waking once to twice to three times, at present we are up to about six feeds a night cue Zombiebella

Tegan great news about bottles. O was aslo a bottle refuser till 17 weeks when he suddendly decided that he would take one again. I did persevere everyday for 5 weeks though.

Obs also watching with interest about cutting down on breastfeeds. Would still like to keep a couple of feeds for a couple of months yet though as O is waking so frequently in the night that i cannot imagine doing much more than getting my breast out

Can i ask a question...
How do people settle their LO's on a night? Do they self settle. I ask because we (i) rock O off each night and don't really know how to get out of the habit. Am wondering if frequent night wakings are anything to do with this? O may wake up and realise that he is not in my arms which is why he cries. Just a thought.

ellielou02 · 30/03/2009 10:22

Morning all,
lola M used to only settle on me but I started putting her in her cot when she was sleepy but still awake, then sushing her with my hand stroking her tummy and also she has a little winnie the pooh that lights up and plays lullabys, she now mostly settles herself.
Sounds like you had agood day jaunitad

LackaDAISYcal · 30/03/2009 10:36

jaunita, i'd love to say pop over here for the day, but my cold has stepped up a gear and I feel shocking and am probably horribly contagious.

I have put bumble down in his cot for a nap today and he went straight to sleep after grumping for ages down here. I'm hoping that sleeping better in the day = sleeping better at night like it's supposed to; I can't take much more of this.....four times last night he was awake, and then I was awake myself due to sore throat. I'm wondering whether to stick him in with DD tonight and see what happens, but it means him not going to bed till she is asleep and then there's the risk of him waking her up if he cries and ice versa.....

I'm off to ask some advice on sleep.....

jaunita, all the older ones have been through this and settled again....unfortunately it happens again around 22 weeks . Anecdotal evidence on here suggests that solids don't make the blindest bit of difference to most babies.

everytime I mention a growth spurt to DH he says "bollocks, the only time bumble wasn't having a growth spurt was at 5.15pm on the 14th January"

LackaDAISYcal · 30/03/2009 10:42

Obs, I would just drop a feed at a time over the course of two or three weeks and if you feel uncomfortable, just express off an oz or two to make things besarable. your boobs will soon get the message that they aren't wanted anymore.

I'm in this for the long haul....till at least a year and then we'll take it from there. three bottle a night would kill more than three BFs!

tegan, it's very rare for babies to self wean before they are a year old, let alone six months. Could he have sore ears so just didn't want to be lying down? But, if you are happy with him on formula then it's been a nice easy transition!
