Syb, I am so sorry about your wee ones health probs. I do hope your DD is ok. You poor old thing...

Katie, the links did work for me but were both the same. But in any case, if you are staying there less than 12 months I would say get the cheaper ones, if they aren't too bad. So how long do you think it is going to take your erstwhile BiL to do then? I haven't got a clue how long it takes to put a kitchen in, which does not bode well for my house...

Arti, you may not be well enough for the pictures tomorrow but I am afraid I won't be joining you this week. I didn't finish my travel piece (since you ask, Cat!) and I absolutely have to because there are other things in the queue and it's all getting a bit urgent. Oh dear. If I ignored DD apart from the necessary, I would probably get more done but I can't bear to do that. Also, DP's client pleaded guilty unexpectedly so he came home early and it is flipping useless trying to work when he is at home.

Hatty, I like a G&T but only at Christmas or in the theatre. It is a good interval drink. It is festive, somehow. Mmm. But now I want one, obviously. I am drinking a pint of Evian instead and it's just not the same, even with ice and a slice.

Cat, I did laugh at the thought of your DS at university, going all sleepy at the sound of the hoover. Or when he is 43, having to keep one by the bed.

ZJ - thrush, ouch. You should get some probiotic yoghurt or just probiotic tablets from Holland & Barrett, they taste like strawberry milkshake...

Jump, that's a real pisser about your DH. If he does have to do that Friday, any chance of him finishing a bit early and flying up for the end of the reception? Not ideal I know

Kayz, that's nice for your friend.

Has anyone done anything about the £250 Trust Fund thing? I must read all the bumf.

LadyThompson · 09/03/2009 23:07

I meant wee ones'.

Right, now to catch up with the Sunday papers. I don't know why I bother, though, they wind me up half the time and make me feel anxious the rest of the time. Newspapers are so corrosive to the soul, I should have given them up for Lent.

Veggiemummy · 09/03/2009 23:34

Oh I should go to sleep but wanted to quickly jump in and say hello. Poor J is such a sad old thing he screamed himself into exhaustion in the end. I'm not quite sure what is wrong so all I could do was hold him while he screamed.

On a good note though had a fanastic time snow boarding was so good to get back out there felt really good doing something my old self loved so much and ds1 had a ski lesson and loved it he looked so cute on his little skis. Also while I was at the outdoor bar thing getting chips for ds1 and a coffee I got chatted up by a young and very drunk german boy. Was quite hilarious I was standing at the bar when these 2 arms came either side of me and this guy smelling like a brewery said something in german. I said sorry married with children but he for some reason didn't believe me and persisted I then pointed out my offspring (ds1 was using my board as a sledge not far off and ds2 was asleep in the pram. He looked completely dumb founded and appologised before asking how old I was. When I told him 36 he said he thought I was 28! I was so chuffed I thanked him and wandered off to feed my first born his chips. I haven't had anyone even look my way for years so it gave me a little boost despite the fact he was clearly very drunk.

Oh and I have a good bf story. I was feeding J at the cafe a the bottom of this run the same one from the previous story. They has bench tables and chairs set in the snow and I was sat on the chair facing away from the table feeding J and watching ds1 and dh playing in the snow. I got a bit brazen whilst over there as I had seen the german mums just flopping em out so was all hitched up with boob fairly exposed with J sucking away when I decided to lean back agaisnt the table. Well with them placed on the snow they weren't very stable and the table fell over so then so did the bench seat and of course me. I ended up legs up in the air, babe on boob and no way of getting myself up as I was holding J, dh was busy with ds1 and didn't see it happen. Luckily a bunch of Germans at a table near me all jumped up and one took J while the others helped me up and righted the table. I was laughing my head off and so were they but I managed to say lots of Danke shens. J was not impressed and decided to stop feeding and go back to sleep to prove it.

LadyThompson · 09/03/2009 23:43

Hello Veggie. Sounds like you are turning heads in Deutschland

kayzr · 10/03/2009 07:39

Morning,

Veggie, sounds like you had a good time. I'd love to go snowboarding.

I was talking to DH last night about him retraining. The job centre won't give anyone training until they have been unemployed for 6 months.

lal07 · 10/03/2009 08:06

Veggie that's a great story. Well both of them are great stories. So glad it's going well and that you're a hit with the Germans. Would be great to meet up at Thomasland - will try to work out some days that we can do and hope they like it.

Sybil sounds like you're having a tough time. Hope the blood tests reassure you.

Arti hope the mastitis is clearing up. But don't deserve your hats off - DD has mainly formula now and I'm stopping bfding in the next week or so mainly because I'm scared of getting mastitis this time. It's so horrible being that sick - and impossible with a toddler so my heart goes out to you.

JJ that is really annoying. And what a weirdly inflexible system.

Nolda your poor DD. Hope you and she have recovered.

ZJ what about pottering around in York? You can go and have a nice afternoon tea in Betty's or a lovely lunch and there are plenty of places with changing facilities/to sit and feed if it's not such a nice day. I heart York - but it might be partly becuase we don't go there that often. And there's all those lovely artisan chocolate shops now too...

Hello babymakes4 I think quite a few of us hadn't posted on anything before we joined this thread.

LadyT g&t is perfect interval drink - you're right. We haven't sorted out the £250 yet - in fact with DS we were so useless that a year expired and they put it in a fund automatically for us. Is probably worth 25p now. Might be better to put it on a horse. Speaking of which am toying with idea of going to Cheltenham festival. But might be stupid idea with children. I love horse racing and haven't been for ages. Will probably just have to console self with william hill account and shouting at TV instead. How low rent.

katie I'd go for the cheaper units. But then am bit mean. Having said that have just spent a fortune on plants for the garden...amazing all the different ways I can spend money when not at work.

Speaking of which - anyone fancy coming virtual shoe shopping with me? Have bought this dress for couple of weddings we've got. Actually looks a bit nicer on than in the picture. Shoes that 'complete the outfit' are gopping. Need to find something a bit glam (not least because one of weddings is old college friend and need to pretend to everyone that I haven't lost it since having children. When of course I absolutely have and would probably like to wear flip flops).

kayzr · 10/03/2009 08:10

DH just told me that MIL says I am making up going to New York with my school. She said that schools do trips to France not New York. Apparently because DH went to Switzerland I decided to try and show him up by lying about NY. Yeah I made it all up, I bought all the pictures I took and stuff I bought in NY off Ebay

artichokes · 10/03/2009 09:25

Morning

Veggie - I love that BFing story. Did they pull you up with your boob still fully exposed? And well done you for being so fanciable!

Sybil - I can't imagine a more stressful wait than the one for a DC's test results. Fingers crossed for you.

Lal - you do deserve my doffing of my cap because you BFed your DD up to now despite the horrors you endured last time. If I had time Ibwould love to come virtual shopping. I too have a wedding I need attite for. It's in two weeks in Kings College chapel in Cambridge and I NEED to look good but am just to big too contemplate.

Kayz - your MiL is a nutter.

My news can be summarized as follows: computer is bust so can only MN via iPhone (fiddley); mastitis improving so off to Slumdog in a min; DD1 had diahorrea all night and neededcseverl nocturnal showers (yuck, yuck); all the surveys in our house buying chain take place today (fingers crossed for good results).

artichokes · 10/03/2009 09:27

The typing in that post is testament to my statement regarding the challenges of MNing via iPhone.

artichokes · 10/03/2009 09:32

Oops, forgot one more piece of news. My old friend got engaged at the weekend and asked Dd1 to be bridesmaid. She is so excited. (ladyT it was D's red haired friend. Sorry you cannot come to Notting Hill today but good luck with your writing).

Veggiemummy · 10/03/2009 09:51

Oh Arti that's so exciting for you dd, I think most dds love being bridesmaids. And yes I may have had a little nipple showing.

Kayz your MIL is mental what a weird thing to bring up, she has issues. That's annoying about the wait for the training, and also annoying about your MIL wittering on at your DH that you should go back to work, your on SML until 9 months aren't you, so officially you are working, and bloody hard too with 2 little men to look after.

WG love your photos except for one. What is with the pink dress your MIL bought, sorry if you like it, but...well...it's a bit Tuppence Rosebud for me.

Trace your P looks so cute in the bouncer reminded me I should get ours out I started ds1 in it too late and he was nearly bouncing through the roof.

Lady I meant to say the other day your HV is horrible I think she needs a stern letter written about her. Just go get her weighed every couple of months and ignore her otherwise, that is such a hurtful thing to say, and is unkeen even a real word?

Lal let me know about Thomasland would be nice to meet up. Apparently they have a cafe that is right near the main play area so easy to see them and get caffeine at the same time.

Better go the house is a tip and ds2 is finally asleep. I think he is terribly itchy, I think he has got a proper dose of the pox poor thing, hope it gives him full immunity, don't want this again.

kmp1 · 10/03/2009 09:53

Veggie hilarious story! I can picture it! I was crying with laughter
I have purchased a couple of BF vests from Blloming marvellous (the one's with the splits in them) and they are really good for public BF but yet to try them out!

LadyT your weekends sound busy again - I totally forgot the cinema idea with Arti - Arti do you go every week?

JumpJ completely understand the DH leave frustration - not sure what his areas is but guessing GP? I have torn my hair out for years over DH's stupid annual leave rules etc - even when he puts in for the dates -despite having to give 6 weeks notice, he still has to get his on call's covered himself by other colleagues, and if he can't, he has to come back for that one day even if it's smack bang in the middle of the leave... not ideal if we're in Australia... He's only ever had to go in once though and it was when we didn't go away anywhere, however it's always a pain in the arse and a lot of hassle to arrange for his time off! Hope the locum doesn't cost too much if you go for that

Syb yes wine is what you def do need... Hope things have settled a bit now? Wine take away.... bet it is done somewhere. Be expensive though. Hope the tests are ok

Katie I would go for the cheaper one's if you are moving on soon

Cat [grin} at T still requiring the hoover when 30!
B had his 2nd jabs yesterday too trace he was fine in there - but I got all woozy again, and sat in the other room! He screamed for 2 hours after we got home, and was quite irritable all night, then just completely destroyed his nappy during the 6pm feed? perhaps it was wind and unrelated to the jabs? It was a mess- all up his back through two layers - had to put him in the bath...
Still not sure what this 'holding the ears' thing he does means? have had the all clear that it's no ear infection and he's fine, but he hangs onto them at times (while crying) lke he's got headphones on - any ideas? I think it means he's tired although doing it now and just woke up??? better go!

LadyThompson · 10/03/2009 09:55

Arti, I am really pleased for her! How nice! Is she going to do it before or after babe? Good luck for the surveys - I have got to book mine and I am a little nervous. I am sorry about the pictures and I hope you have fun (I did want to come, I am so annoyed with myself). I am so easily distracted from my work, it's not all DD's fault. And now Lal has gone and mentioned Cheltenham and I am all wistful, it's only down the road and it would be so lovely to go. It's a good job I can't drive or else I'd be over there. Are you going to have a bet on the Gold Cup on Fri, Lal? I will join you. I want to help with the shoes but I daren't as I will use up even more hours getting lost in whimsies and looking longingly at thousands of pairs. LK Bennett and Hobbes might be good places to start but I am sure you know that anyway.

Kayz, I am sorry your DH would have to wait 6 months to retrain. It's not very encouraging is it? Do you think he would prefer to train to do something else? Could you wait six months? I should think it would be very tight. I hope something comes up one way or the other.

kayzr · 10/03/2009 10:10

LadyT DH would like to train to be an electrican. We can't really afford for him to wait 6 months. If nothing comes up we'll struggle through but he'll probably end up back up where he was before when they take people back on in June.

Veggie I am on SML, so I am classed as working. She doesn't seem to understand though.

jumpjockey · 10/03/2009 11:14

Morning all, dd managing to have a bit of a nap (fingers crossed!) so time to do contructive useful adult activities, like MN...

veggie waaaahhh! that is just hilarious about the BF falling over. Sounds like you were an absolute honeypot to the locals did you have lots of fabby snow?

arti v impressed with your typing. Sorry about the horrid night of poo, but how fab about dd being bridesmaid I never got to be bridesmaid and it's left me psychologically scarred

lal gorgeous dress, v sexy back! I'm sure some of our more glam mums will be able to suggest something. I would probably go for something bright-ish like Michelle Obama's green shoes but have no sense of how outfits work, just pretty things bunged together

kmp yep DH is a GP. How rubbish about your DH's on calls - that really is pants. It is a very silly system, though of course we shouldn't grumble really as it meant we got to book the honeymoon slot we wanted. Not sure what's better, that or the system at my work which is basically first come first served. There are a couple of people who get in there at the start of the year and book every single week/long weekend they want way in advance, and those of us who are less organised end up having the odd Wednesday here and there... the perils of a public facing job I guess, there always has to be a certain number of people in the department for it to run, and if everyone else has got in there first, you're left doing lots of other people's work. Again I shoudln't grumble really, I have a weekly late duty for which we get TOIL X1.5 so last calendar year I had a total of 42 days annual leave

and LadyT good idea about the flight but he usually finishes at about 7 on a Friday so would probably miss most of the reception once you figure in waiting times etc We're thinking of trying to go up on the Saturday and at least getting to see as many of the assembled family as possible - we'll be in big trouble if they don't get to have a cuddle with dd...

jumpjockey · 10/03/2009 12:40

DD has been asleep for 2.5 hours now what on earth is going on! Am sorely tempted to wake her up just to check she's ok This is actually more nap than she got the whole of yesterday - usually goes off for about half an hour or an hour at most.

SummerLightning · 10/03/2009 13:09

Hi all,
Sorry not been on in a while, have been lurking though!
veggie I loved your stories, particularly the one about you falling off the bench while feeding. I can just picture it!
jj hooray for magical sleeping babies! DS surprised us by falling asleep at 7:15 last night, he never goes off before 8! WE had not had chance to change his nappy or put him in sleepsuit! I was sure he would wake up at some point in the evening but no.....he woke up at....5 am! At which point he was starving so I decided to feed him a bit before changing nappy, then 5 mins into feed I felt warm feeling spread across me, oh dear!!!
katie re the kitchen - probably the cheaper one I'm afraid if it's just personal choice, unless the price diff isn't that big or the cheaper one actually looks quite cheap and might affect re-sale value.
kayz sorry your MIL sounds like a cow!! Silly woman.
lal sorry I am not a shoe person, I always wear really plain shoes for weddings! For anyone who has been to wedding while bfing, can you suggest a style/where to buy dresses?
I have a wedding to go to at the beginning of May, and have nothing to wear!
jj bummer about the leave, that is just so annoying!
cat funny about the hoover! ARe you serious about Wayne Rooney??
We got a bike trailer for DS, that has an insert suitable from birth. He looked so cute in it and I love it! I am so excited! veggie did you get the sling insert for yours yet, and have you tried it?

In other news, he has had one tiny poo in 4 days. I am scared.

And he had his first set of jabs yesterday then in the afternoon we went to first baby yoga class and he screamed the place down. Poor little DS, maybe accounts for his mammoth sleep last night (not that I am complaining - I went to sleep at 9:30 and got sooo much sleep, the most in one go since he was born!)

SummerLightning · 10/03/2009 13:11

I have just realised that I put far too many exclamation marks in my posts. I have just had to restrain myself to make myself not put any in this one... a ha but an ellipsis snuck in there though.

Veggiemummy · 10/03/2009 14:14

Summer we got one but have been away or poxed up since it got delivered I thought I might start running to nursery to pick ds1 up with ds2 insitu and then go for a run to the local big park with the boys then run home. You are in possession of a chariot then. Everyone in Germany has one I think I saw more of them then normal pushchairs they have big areas on the trains for bikes so loads of room for them.

JJ there was heaps of snow, and yes I think I did look quite amusing breastfeeding turtle on it's back springs to mind. It kind of cancelled out the chatting up I had gotten.

God bless Ocado, I was good yesterday and didn't order any treats but today I was regretting it but bless them they added a free promotional pack of dark chocolate by some company called Choxi will be into that later.

Veggiemummy · 10/03/2009 14:19

Also giggling at the sight of Coleen (think that's her name) putting vacuum on for Wayne to go off to sleep.

Poor DH is quite stressed he is talking at some big conference at Olympia on thursday and is still sorting out his talk, he is talking alongside people from google and yahoo so it is making him nervous. I figured if they came up with google that didn't necessarily make them interesting public speakets but he is still nervous.

Ds1 and I have just made scones mmmm.....I think someone better give me the link to the weight loss thread I have been absent from it a little too long.

Cat I have to say what a stupid article I would hardly call it bizarre or absessive compulsive behaviour to use White noise to get to sleep I used to put a fan on to sleep when I did night duties as it's good White noise to drown out the daytime noise. Some journalists do make a sensational story out if nothing don't they.

Sorry bad spelling I'm on the itouch and no idea why but whenever I type White it makes it a capital W. Currently cuddling poor J to sleep and Leo the cat is snuggling up too. Dh and ds1 have just gone to have their hair cuts. Which reminds me I haven't had mine done for ages.

I'm trying to work out how we can go to the snow again but think it will cost too much so might just go to the snowdome.

Kayz aren't electricians an apprenticeship can't your DH do one and so get paid?
