Oh Lady you are indeed a Sage, you could teach Buddhist monks a thing or two.

Kayz I'm I right in assuming that to get his meesley £60 your DH has to go to the job center everyday??? And they don't take exception to sickness. Bloody hell bit rough. Can he get sickness benefits at all?

Hey did you hear about the Arsenal fan who got injured in Rome, Roma fans are so rough, yet they never do anything about them.

DH has his big talk at 2.30pm so I need positive vibes sent out to him. Poor thing is losing his voice (man flu alert).

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 13:30

Bloody pre emptive Itouch thing that should have been am not I'm

kayzr · 12/03/2009 13:36

Not everyday just when he has appointments.

I didn't hear about the Arsenal fan. Apparently FIFA said if there was any violence last night they were taking the final away from Roma as that is where the final is being played.

JollyBear · 12/03/2009 14:06

Afternoon all,

JJ I hope your friend's baby's op goes smoothly. What a horrible thing to be going through.

arti DD is having a regression re night waking too although not as much as your DD. She had been only waking once between the dream feed and 7ish but the last two nights she's been waking up more often - not crying but sucking her hand and generally making it clear she wants food. I've been bringing her into bed with us, which settles her until 7 but I know this is against the regulations and not for everyone. I just don't want to get her into the habit of waking up more often for food.

verso I'm really pleased to hear that you feel a bit brighter. Honestly men are useless when it comes to illness.

ladyT What a horrible situation you went through. It is wonderful that you can reflect on such a difficult situation and still feel the way you do, very inspiring.

I've just dragged myself around town looking for some jeans. I only have one decent pair and they're always in the wash covered in sick. Honestly isn't jean shopping the pits?! Nothing looked half decent. I really must make more of an effort when going out and put some half decent clothers/blusher on. I looked like a dowdy ghost today. I'd look better if I could find some jeans!

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 14:09

Some Roma fans stormed onto a bus of Arsenal fans and smashed a window and stabbed a fan with the glass. So horrible to do that. He is ok, in hospital I think. They should def take it away from them, those fans are nasty.

rosmerta · 12/03/2009 14:15

Veggie, thanks for the B&Q tip, would never have thought of that.

Ladyt, I think its incredible that you can be so positive about a horrible situation, it takes a lot of strength not to let bitterness etc take over.

Verso, glad you're getting more rest & feeling better. Dh is another manflu sufferer, he's always twice as poorly as anyone else.

Right, I have both boys asleep (wooo!) so must go do something useful!

Olipop · 12/03/2009 14:30

Hello..I have been slack so need to catch up. Hope everyone is ok. I didn't even know we had a new thread - how bad is that!

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 15:13

Hey Oli nice to see you.

Rosemerta I've just made myself a coffee why don't you get yourself one and we can sit down and have an ecoffee together, or could it be an icoffee.

rosmerta · 12/03/2009 15:29

Thanks veggie, but they're both awake now! I did get to have a cup of tea & watch trashy tv for an hour so can't complain!

Hi oli, nice to see you again!

JollyBear · 12/03/2009 15:31

I love the idea of ros and veggie enjoying an ecoffee together. I think ecoffee and itea has a nice ring to it .

I'd join you but I'm taking the young lady for a walk in her sling so she'll have a proper nap and not be a screaming monster come bedtime.

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 15:50

JB I've often thought it would be nice to all co-ordinate a morning coffee time for us all. A time in the day where we all sit down for a coffee wherever we are but with feeds and naps and drop off and pick up times it would be rather difficult.

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 15:52

DH did his talk and apparently it went very well. No one asked any questions at the end but then it was just before the coffee break.

kmp1 · 12/03/2009 16:33

LadyT well done for being so positive and not bitter after that ordeal!
Just wondering if anyone has ever tried either the slumber bear or sleep sheep to help with sleep? I can't decide which one is better but the Bear has recorings of actual womb sounds apparently? I was just thinking it would be good for travelling as we are planning a trip to Australia in may, and B could associate his nighttime sleeping through with it - along with a miracle blanket, "Dreamy journey" program on the telly, 5 oz's of milk and dummy!
Just back from the shops - there are big sales on for all the Winter gear so got him a thing or two since our trip home it will be Winter there! Well up north still hot days but really cools down at night.

Veggiemummy · 12/03/2009 16:51

Kmp I think the sheep is the cutest but the bear has more sound options so it might be better. Can highly recommend getting him used to some music or sounds for bedtime for when you are away. When we went home with Ds1 we used a bath oil sent in his bath that was the same as what we used at home and also a couple of bath toys he knew and then put him to bed with the baby classics music that he always listened to at bedtime at home. I def think it helped him to have some familiarity in unfamiliar environments esp at bedtime. We have travelled loads with him and he has slept in various travel cots, nests of pillows, beds and thermarests but has generally gone off to sleep ok.

kayzr · 12/03/2009 18:09

Kmp The sheep is so cute!!

We should have a solution to the bus problem. According to the timetable you can buy a return ticket but if you need to get off you can and then you can continue your journey. So DH is getting off at Malton and I'm going straight to York. DS1 needs new shoes so I'm off to get him measured.

waitinggirl · 12/03/2009 18:32

wow - am now facebook friends with turnip, veggie and cat! feel quite chuffed. also, veggie - what i couldn't say on fb is that i was also furious because my nct class is so rubbish at keeping in touch. i am diligently telling them about whatever babycinema/massage classes that i am doing and asking if anyone wants to come/meet up and i feel like nobby no-mates when no one bothers to reply. i do, actually, feel like the boring girl whom no one wants to be friends with at school. strange this trying to make friends lark, isn't it?

dh is appearing (in a very small capacity) in a sketch in tomorrow's comic relief, so if anyone is in, watch out...

waitinggirl · 12/03/2009 18:33

also, ladyt - you are so wise... love reading your musings/advice

kmp -love the hugh hefner image

rosmerta - hope your cousin is ok

jj - ditto your friends' baby's surgery

kayzr · 12/03/2009 18:34

Oooooh I love Comic Relief. I forgot it was tomorrow. Going to watch the apprentice tonight.

katie3677 · 12/03/2009 18:44

JollyBear, I know what you mean about jeans shopping. I found some great ones in a local boutique, they are Great Plains ones and cost £40, which I reckon I can justify if I manage to continue with the not smoking for another week .
DD is trying to sit up at the moment so I got the bumbo out today and put her in it and she loves it. Can highly reccomend these, especially useful when starting them on solids.
DD has been really chatty and smiley with me today, which is lovely as she usually reserves her smiles for Daddy, she is obviously turning a corner in appreciating her Mum. Can't believe she is already 15 weeks!

kayzr · 12/03/2009 18:48

Speaking of jeans, these are brilliant. I love them and they make you look much smaller.

rosmerta · 12/03/2009 19:08

Kayz, thanks for reminding me, I forgot the Apprentice was on tonight

kayzr · 12/03/2009 19:15

It's the comic relief one. I'm sure the proper one starts soon too.

daisydora · 12/03/2009 19:35

Looking forward to the Comic Relief Apprentice tonight too, and your right the real one starts soon - I love it!!!!

DH was diagnosed with stomach ulcers today He is okay really and its not that serious (meds at this stage not surgery) but he is a man and my ears are already bleeding with his tales of woe, why are men so pathetic when it comes to illness or is it just my DH??

I've had 2 c-sections and I swear I never moaned half as much as he does when he has a cold flu!

Hello again - all very hectic here. Just wanted to say that, in terms of the white noise / sleeping thing, we have used this:
www.bloomingmarvellous.co.uk/product.aspx?CategoryID=n-night-time&ProductID=6309&language=en-GB
with both our daughters and it has been brilliant. It has different sounds (rain, waves, a heartbeat and an incredibly annoying nursery rhyme (guess which was the only one that worked for us??!). You can set it for 15 mins, or movement activated or just to be on all night. We tried them all and found 'on all night' was the best, but it really was brilliant. We travel to our parents quite a lot so they have both had to get used to sleeping in different places from quite young & we think this has really helped as a portable sleep cue!

traceface · 12/03/2009 19:53

hello

I've discovered that Phoebe will smile and kick excitedly for a good half hour if I dangle the silver foil out of a KitKat in front of her! I think I really ought to make a special effort to eat more KitKats to keep her so entertained!

Jolly - I was thinking about the yorkshire meet-up the other day...looking forward to hearing from you with a date!

LadyT - you are so right about bitterness and its siblings. I go to a little Bible study/ prayer group on a Tuesday morning and this week we were talking about forgiveness - and how if you're not forgiving someone for something then really it's you that ends up worse off - it eats away at you and spoils so many things. Forgiving them brings a release and freedom from it. Kind of what you were saying.

2 little updates:

  1. I gave the nappies to the husband of the lady who had the baby. He looked very scary - he looks well 'ard and is sphere-shaped - but anyway he was really grateful and very lovely to chat to! The lady brought the new baby with her to pick up her dd1 from school today - I went to coo over the baby and she is Sooooooooo small! She's over 7lb but Phoebe looked like a giant next to her - made me realise that she's not newborn anymore
  1. my insecure friend rang today and asked if she could come round. I said yes then said "oh hang on, there's one condition..." then said she was only allowed to come if she didn't say that either of my girls hated her and that if she did she would have to leave! I said it really light heartedly so she just laughed and agreed, and actually when she was here she didn't say it, so I think it got through a bit

Anyone fancy sharing a bar of e-chocolate with me? If not I'll have to eat the whole lot myself!
