Comic Relief included a very sad report about women (and babies) dying in childbirth - apparently as many as 1 in 8 in Malawi. Probably wise not to watch when feeding a 5 week old.

Sorry to repeat other posts re CR - I'm amazed by the posting volume on this thread. I'd be interested in a meet up and Nkweto's suggestion of a park cafe sounds good.

It's not central but Finsbury Park cafe is within walking distance of two tube lines, several overground lines and bus routes. The cafe is big and has lots of space for buggies now, highchairs later - there are always babies, toddlers and other children with their parents at various different stages of feeding (they also have lots of highchairs). It's probably one of the cheaper park cafes. And there are ducks and a playground if any of you were bringing previous children.

SomeMightSay · 14/03/2009 13:27

KT The formula we used was Enfamil A.R. You can only get it on prescription.

I went to see Oasis at Finsbury Park years ago.

I'm a bit pissed off (shock, horror!) Dp this morning said he was getting up with Luke, so Luke starts crying and dp gives him a dummy and says in a minute, but after the minute jut gives him dummy again and again and again so I told him maybe he doesn't want a crappy dummy, he wants food so I get up and dp says he was gonna do it, so I have the ump because you can't leave a baby hungry just because you can't be bothered to shift your arse (I'd leave him for a minute if I was washing up or something like that, but when there's no excuse, there's no excuse), so then dp gets up too, what's the point in both of us being up? So we walk into town, just a pointless walk even though I said if we do that ds1 will fall asleep and then wont nap after lunch so will be miserable all day, but what does dp care? he's decided to go into work tonight so is now back in bed leaving me to deal with these 2 all day.
Just been pissed on while trying to change the worst nappy I think I've even been faced with so shit everywhere too.
Going to get the 3 of us ready again now and go to the park and hope they both fall asleep so I can read a bit of my book.
Rant over. For now

I'm doing ds1 a star chart later and have bought some gold sticky stars so he'll get one everytime he does something good or nice, like be gentle with the baby, put his toys away nicely, put his cup on the floor nicely and so on. Hoping the fuss and over-praise will help him/us.
Laters x

MarkStretch · 14/03/2009 13:29

Can I just say- 5 week old babies needing their own passport is farking ridiculous.

I took DS to have his photos done this morning and he cried and cried and cried. I even fed him in the photographers studio to try and calm him.

(The lady was horrified- I said 'hold on, I'll feed him and see if he'll calm down' and she said 'Good idea, a bit more bottle' and then I whipped a tit out and she suddenly became very interested in her diary...)

We eventually got a half decent picture after half an hour of trying. And then they charged me £12.95 for them! And the passport is £46!

PinkTulips · 14/03/2009 13:50

ms.... i got my dad to take digi photo shots of the kids for their passports and use photshop to get the head centred and the background clear.... a hell of a lot easier and cheaper

that reminds me, i must get my passport renewed, sod's law if i let it expire somebody abroad will drop dead the day it does (the madness of having lots of elderly, infirm relatives abroad is that you think lovely morbid things like that!)

am finally doing my thank you cards for baby gifts, thank god he's my third and we haven't gotton the mountains of stuff we did with sarah, i'm bored already and i've only done 3

Calico1 · 14/03/2009 14:13

Just a thought about a place for a meet up in london - what about Coram Fields in Holborn - nice and central and you're only allowed in if you have a child with you!
www.coramsfields.org/

MS that's madness!

elkiedee · 14/03/2009 14:26

Markstretch, I agree with you. ds1 had his passport picture taken at the time all his newborn hair had fallen out and before his hair now started to grow - he must have been bald for all of a week, but that's when it was taken. He's not 2 yet and how you'd know it was him or any other baby...

PMSL at the feeding story though.

Yes, Coram Fields would be a good place for a meet up too - though I don't know what their cafe's like if the weather turns out to be dodgy. It's slightly nearer to Kings Cross than to Holborn but probably walkable from both.

Calico1 · 14/03/2009 14:34

Not sure about the cafe there - it's been a while since I was there with DS - I think it is under cover.....but not inside iyswim

dinkystinky · 14/03/2009 14:43

Wow - there was a lot of chat going on in the little hours.

I was going to suggest Coram's field too Calico! Though the Lido and Finsbury Park both sound nice too....

So last night was fun - up with a cranky (due to wind) Danny between 3.45 and 5 (when I finally got the wind out and he fell asleep)and then DS1 was ill at 5.20 so I had to get up with DS1 to look after him, give him water and medicine and get him back to sleep till 7ish and then Danny managed to chunder up all his 9am feed on me! Lovely start to the day DH was oblivious to it all in the back bedroom but hopefully he's on the mend now - he certainly looks less grey under his rash... Though it sounds like Pink and SMS have had pretty crappy mornings too... Hope all our days improve from here on in.

Nkweto - hope that you're fully recovered now and that DS is ok. Fingers crossed I dont get whatever DS1 has got - I'm the only well member of our household at the moment!

Those of you who watched Comic Relief last night, that report sounds unbelievably sad. In my current hormonal state, I cant even read the newspaper - I'd have been a total mess if I'd seen that report...

OP posts:
dinkystinky · 14/03/2009 14:47

MS - ouch! That's a very expensive passport for Frankie. We got Danny's done at SnappySnaps for much less a few weeks ago - though he looks nothing at all like his photo already! DS1 was 4 months when we had his passport photo taken and a real tubster (his head is basically spherical in the photo) and looks nothing like his photo now but somehow we manage to get him out and back into the country

OP posts:
Calico1 · 14/03/2009 14:49

dinky sorry to hear you're all poorly - we all have colds but that sounds like nothing compared to your lot!
ditto comic relief - I'm a blubbering wreck just watching the news these days.....

LittleMissNorty · 14/03/2009 14:55

Hello ladies

Just had to take LO to out of hours doc....got a fever of 39 degrees....think its a virus (DD was at GPs yesterday) so have been told to give him calpol and keep a close eye on him

What about Horniman's for a meet-up?

swampster · 14/03/2009 15:03

Hornimans is lovely but a bit too deep sarf London without a tube.

LittleMissNorty · 14/03/2009 15:09

True...I am biased though as its easy for me to drive to from Kent

mumoverseas · 14/03/2009 15:09

hello all, hope everyone is having a good saturday.

MS, sorry to see your scar is infected, strange that its happened so late, have you been overdoing it?

dinky sorry the chunder bug is in your house, hope DS1 gets better soon and DS2 doesn't get it.

nkweto, sorry you have had the same comments as me ref 'baby belly' but glad I'm not alone in not being a size 8/10

LMN, hope LO's temperature goes down soon and he is ok.

very jealous of your planned meet up, hope that there will be more meet ups in the summer when I'm back and you've not all gone back to work.

SomeMightSay · 14/03/2009 15:27

MS Agree that is really silly for babies to have individual passports, why not just add them onto the parents like they used to? Not being funny but most babies look exactly the same anyway, or at least to people that don't know them (ie passport control)
dinky Hope your day has improved from that horrid morning.
LMN Poor Ewan with his temp, hope the calpol keeps it down and he gets better soon.

For me personally, if I come to a meet-up, doesn't make too much of a difference where tbh, with the 2 of them, just getting out to the street can be a nightmare
We went to the park (ds1 did not fall asleep), was nice for a while but lots of big kids with footballs in there so after ds1 got pushed over twice and kicked in the head when he ran infront of swings before I could grab him thought it was time to leave so we had a walk around the block. Back home now, dp still in bed, ds2 asleep and ds1 watching Lazy Town.

At what age do the baby's eyes stop changing colour? My mum said it's a few months, but a friend says 5/6 weeks. Just wondered because we all have brown, but Luke's are still blue and wonder if they'll stay that way. Both his Grandad's have blue eyes so not impossible

swampster · 14/03/2009 16:02

Yoo hoo SMS - saw you chatting play dough on another thread. We made some wicked stuff in the microwave - weeks later it is still soft and lovely. Added food colouring and a few drops of vanilla essence to make it smell nice.

swampster · 14/03/2009 16:04

It might have been this recipe:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of plain flour
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon cooking oil
  • 2 teaspoons cream of tartar
  • half a cup of salt
  • food colouring (optional)

Method 1 - Saucepan

Place all the ingredients in a saucepan at a low heat. Stir continously until the mixture thickens to a firm dough texture.
Method 2 - Microwave

Place all the ingredients in a plastic container and cook for one and a half minutes in a microwave. Stir the mixture and microwave again for one minute.

dinkystinky · 14/03/2009 18:06

Chilled - love your photos! DS1 looks so lovely with his little sister...

DS1 chundering again - fortunately DH is feeling humanoid enough to deal so I get a reprieve... phew!

OP posts:
MarkStretch · 14/03/2009 18:45

MOS- I stupidly wore a pair of under the bump maternity jeans which rubbed my scar and the area which was irritated has got infected. I am annoyed as it was healing so well

I am just fed up of wearing trackie bottoms!

FrankStretch · 14/03/2009 18:47

[numpty]

FrankStretch · 14/03/2009 18:48

...

herbgarden · 14/03/2009 18:55

MS you poor thing. I was like that - a pair of jeans just a bit on the tight side irritated it. I only have two pairs of jogggy bottoms and both were chundered/weed and pooed on before I had chance to wash/dry the other pair. Feels like a step back again doesn't it. It will get better before you know it and then you'll be back in your "normal" clothes....

After another slightly heated debate last night over sleeping/feeding (again) with DH , I agreed with him that I'll do the late feed tonight and then drive over to my parents for what will hopefully be a 8/9 hour stretch of sleep with no interruptions. He's off to bed early and will then the night feed (s). He fed DD at 11pm last night and she then stretched to 3.15am and 6.45am. If I don't have a good long sleep soon I think I could be committed to the nut house. I know we're all feeling the same but you know when you can just feel yourself tipping over the edge. I don't ask/accept help that well but when DH suggested it last night I didn't fight it. Saying that, the last time I got a long sleep a few weeks ago, I felt crap the next day all day and was quite happy to get back to my night feedings again !!....DH has been a grumpy old sod all day today but is finally putting DS in the bath. DD already in bed and we're having nice steaks and salad for dinner....I might even have a wee glass of wine !

dinkystinky · 14/03/2009 20:15

Herbgarden - enjoy your nice long sleep tonight. Hope it helps you feel better soon. I know what you mean about feeling rubbish after having more sleep - its all to do with your circadian rhythms being totally messed about as you're used to being awake half the night so your body ends up feeling jetlagged when those rhythms get messed around. I'm applying my jetlag (and post-all nighters at work) approach to the sleep deprivation at the moment (run on adrenaline as much as I can, avoid caffeine, eat little and often, have a power nap for 30 minute to an hour and a half at some point during the day and get to bed at 10ish after last feed). When I dont have to deal with abnormally awake ill children, it seems to work alright for me...
