Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
chefswife · 28/03/2009 01:53

bubs and i have head colds. i noticed my throat sore the other day that quickly turned stuffed sinus'. DD is feeling it too, runny eyes, nose, drooling but not a peep from her. she still smiling and sleeping like rumplestilskin. (he slept a lot, right?)

gotta go. eyes are too watery to read. i'll catch up later.
hope everyone's weekend is starting out well.

EachPeachPearMum · 28/03/2009 06:05

chef... wasn't that Rip van Winkle? Rumplestiltskin span straw into gold, and made you guess his name! (you wait- you have years of these stories ahead of you )

Bleeurgh for colds though, horrible things.

I love babygap rray... but cannot justify any more clothes for either child... their wardrobes are enormous, and taking over the house!

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 28/03/2009 10:21

i am the same eachpeach have got more than enough for dd1 and 2 for summer now

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 15:40

Hi everyone. I've been away since Tuesday am and haven't a clue whats going on so will try to read through. Have ill babies everywhere, tiny dd2 with a hacking cough! Seems a shame bless her.
Went to Alton Towers water park for a night, dd1 was so ill we had to stay another night, then night at mums, then night in Harrrogate due to various trauma's around cars and illness. On my own with the dc's too!!!!!!!!!

So bit of an epic week. Have the sore throat sore skin thing going on, so think hot water bottle and bed for me. Just in after 4 hour drive, so feeling a bit onthebrink overstimulated. Have driven 700 miles in 3 ddays. As have my poor sick kids.

SOoooo nice to be home!

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 15:52

Can't catch up - haven't the brain power. but great news Elk, about the hospital review. You must have been delighted. Sad to hear there are lots of sick babies and mummies out there, but good to hear there are a few brave souls shopping.

EachPeachPearMum · 28/03/2009 16:16

Hi tree- wow thats a lot of travel with dc in tow...

ds is really under the weather with his cold today- temperature and lots of sleeping. even his nose has been bleeding poor lad- just the lining. DD has had a nice day doing lots of craft things though- making easter stuff.

stripeywoollenhat · 28/03/2009 17:08

sorry to hear about all the illness - i think something's up with the Infanta as well. she had her two month vaccinations on thursday, yesterday was all pale and pathetic - feeble crying, feeble smiling - and today is pale and cranky. i'm assuming she will be back to normal tomorrow... really not looking forward to doing that again - almost burst into tears myself when the nurse came at her with a needle.

rray - there are sales on everywhere here too. but c has so many clothes there's no way she is going to manage to wear them all before she has grown out of them and i refuse to buy any clothes myself until i have reverted to a normal size and shape. (perhaps never, then).

elkie, really pleased to hear about lo's weight, must be a relief

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 17:24

Now about the vaccines. When they had the jab, did the nurse put it in a bit or all the way, straight or at an angle? Sorry to disturb you with this, but wa a bit when dd2 had hers!

stripeywoollenhat · 28/03/2009 18:48

tree - have to confess i don't know, had dp hold her and looked away at crucial moment. can't stand injections myself and found this even worse.

stripeywoollenhat · 28/03/2009 19:22

tree - dp says straight and all the way

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 19:31

Same here, reassuring thats how it has to be done. Wondered if she was just a bit harsh! Needle looked half as long as her leg so dreading next 2 visits. Poor lambs.

moosemama · 28/03/2009 19:33

Evenin' all.

Been out to library today to research scorpions with DS1 for his homework and popped into H&M as I know they do slightly different sizing than other shops. Fortunately I was given some money for DD by my Step Nan yesterday so managed to get her a few things in size 1-2m which seem to be the perfect size. DH was really narky about how much I bought even though I still had 10 pounds left over. We also managed to have a family lunch in the library cafe without so much as a cross word, so that was a nice bonus.

Didn't get half as much done as I would have liked though as town was absolute chaos, heaving with people all wandering round aimlessly without looking where they are going (including walking into my pushchair which to be honest is hard to miss). Found it really stressful, think I will stick to weekday mornings in future as the shops are always half empty then. Mind you it doesn't help going shopping when you feel poorly and everything hurts when you move, let alone if something/one touches your stingy/burny skin.

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 19:36

Hey Moose - could you have shingles? Don't know a great deal about it but man I knew got it and his skin was agony.

moosemama · 28/03/2009 20:27

Hi Tree,

Don't think it could be shingles, I think you can only get that on one side of your body at a time and this is all over, almost symmetrical actually.

Haven't a clue what it is, but its not nice at all. DH is on at me to go to the GPs, but they are usually hopeless and will just tell me to rest, eat well etc etc. As soon as I mention I have a 10 wk old baby they will just say its exhaustion or stress.

treedelivery · 28/03/2009 20:35

I now, as a standard response, say everyone in this house sleeps 9 to 12 hrs and eats 8 portions of fruit and veg a day, as well as plenty of fibre. Once they can't plead exhaustion, nutrition and bowels I find there can be sense in them. Sometimes.

I get sore sore skin when my temp is up, like today. Clothes hurt and my nipples are super sensitive. Joy

rrrayray · 28/03/2009 20:40

Evening ladies.

Esme i can only guess is having her growth spurt (9 weeks yesterday) as had literally slept all day today, and was not waking for love nor money.

How long to Growth spurts usually last?

Has anyone tried giving their LO Cooled Boiled water? i've given Esme a drink around 4pm a few times- shes not too impressed with it.

Was planning to take Esme swimming tomorrow, but OH now has training, and we're keen her first swim is the three of us as a family! Boo hissssss.

LenniEd · 28/03/2009 22:05

Hi all, DH's VAT return due, hence my relative absence. Had a nightmare night last night - DH woke DS by turning all the lights on in our room at 11.30pm , said he forgot he was there - after 11 weeks and then at 3am DS woke screaming - turned out DH hadn't put his nappy on right (cos it's sooo hard ) and he was completely soaked through - his sheet was wet and his sleeping bag too so we had to change him, wash him off and change the bed in the middle of the night. By the time I'd done all that and fed him I couldn't get back to sleep. And DH out all day and night tonight so been on my own with two all day - prob for the best though, don't think he'd have been all that popular this morning

Anyhow, am sorry to hear about all the ill LOs and the itchy skin.

Similar experience of GPs here too MM/Tree - although that said my GP is lovely.

No boiled water here ray - didn't think that there was any need if b/f? I used to give DD water but she was bottle fed and they need it in warm weather I think. I thought your breastmilk adjusted to be more watery in warmer weather... although I have been known to be delusional about the benefits of breastfeeding at several points in the last 11.5 weeks!

Clocks fprward tonight - boo hiss. Do they not know I get little time in bed as it is!!

EachPeachPearMum · 28/03/2009 22:19

moose could skin thing be glandular? If you're ill, glands would be up- dh often has itchy skin when his glands are up...

rray ds' growth spurt lasted 48 hours... though that was the '6 week' one.
What are you giving dd water for? aren't you bf or are you supplementing with ff? no need at all with bf, even in heatwave- your body adapts as temp rises...

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 28/03/2009 22:21

evening

busy ladies

mm - glad u found some outfits that fit her
lenni - poor ds

agree boo to clocks @ least it will get lighter in the eves

chefswife · 29/03/2009 00:21

we are getting double whammied... well i am. allergies! argh. anyway. we all shall get through it and summer will be great. fingers crossed.

vaccines... we are going to think about it till DD is at least 2 years old. naturopath doctors recommend that so as to build the child's immune system first. its not so necessary either if you are breast feeding as the child benefits from you.

ray the healthnurse here said you don't need to feed babies water till after 9 months and then only a couple of ounces a day.

i love babygap as well. another one thats good is mexx.

ah yes peach, van winkle.

missjackson · 29/03/2009 08:39

Oooh, lots to catch up on.

Great news about review Elkie - now you can just enjoy your feeding without worrying about growth.

MM I had another rash (not anything like as bad as the one in pregnancy!) a couple of weeks after LO was born - very itchy especially in the places you mention - anyway, upshot was that the GP said it was 'just' hormonal and would go away - which it has - but if it continues you should press to see a dermatologist.

Same on clothes - I actually feel embarrased at the amount of clothes I have for LO - and he's already completely outgrown the 0-3 and newborn stuff - all his babygros and vests are now 3-6 months! Oh forgot to say, at his 8 week check he weighed in at 13lbs 7lb! 91st centile! Amazing - I always used to think mothers that went on about their baby's weight were a little weird, but I understand now - especially with BF, as you can't really see what is going in!

Had 2 evenings of bad colicky episodes with an hour and a half of crying, so started using infacol yesterday - BRILLIANT first day, as he did a huge burp after his bath, and then went straight off to sleep at 7pm - he doesn't usually do such good burps .

Well, at the moment I am lying in bed with a cup of tea, with the sun streaming through the window and the house to myself as OH has taken LO off to the farm... so I have a 2 hr window before he'll need a feed - bliss! I think I might try getting out for a ride today as there are some really nice ladies staying this weekend and I must start getting rid of this jelly-belly!

Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday.

fymmumoftwo · 29/03/2009 10:05

morning!!!

I think the change in hour is designed to finish us off!!!

rray ds1 wouldn't drink cooled boiled water (have you tried it it's disgusting!!!) ended up feeding him mineral water from about 4-5 months.

moosemama · 29/03/2009 11:52

Morning

Had absolutely no idea the clocks went forward so all at sixes and sevens here today! Complicated by DD sleeping through till 8.30 (so that's 9.30 then!).

Since then I have been researching scorpions with DS1 for his homework, although truth be told I think one of us is doing more work than the other iykwim.

EPPM yes glands are up in my neck, so definitely some immune stuff going on somewhere. Have also remembered I'm at the exact number of weeks as I was with DS1 when the GP refused to endorse me travelling to Ireland to visit my Dad, as they felt I was too ill and it was too risky.

They didn't have a clue what was wrong with me then either, but thinking back it was almost identical but without the itching. They ran all sorts of blood tests etc but never got a diagnosis and it went way on its own eventually. Have had weird health issues on and off all my adult life, lots of bandying about of ME, fibromyalgia and lupus (fuelled by brain lesions on MRI) but never a definitive diagnosis and personally I'd rather not be labelled unless they can actually do something to help.

I'm thinking this is probably a combination of a virus and some sort of hormonal thing and it will right itself eventually, like it did last time.

Anyway, enough about my shonky health! Back to babies ... We finally managed to get DS2s old baby gym down from the loft yesterday and DD is absolutely loving it. We had been setting her up with all sorts of weird combinations of toys around her hands and feet and she particularly loves kicking a rattley ball about but she was definitely starting to get bored of looking at our lampshade and needed more visual stimulation. Its taken us two weeks of searching everywhere else to remember that we put the gym back in the loft because she wouldn't be needing it at first!

DD has been trying to up my milk supply for the past couple of days and wanting feeding every hour and a half in the day! She seems to have settled back to 2-3 hrs now though, and am expressing an extra 2oz each time so she must have succeeded, great for her, but my boobs are stupidly huge again now!

missjackson · 29/03/2009 14:57

LenniEd that sounds like a night from hell! I often lay awake long after OH and LO have gone back to sleep after a nappy or feed session - OH seems to be able to just switch off and sleep thru all of LO's little grunts, murmurs and teradactyl impressions - I wish I could!

MM you poor thing with your skin and immune system problems - it's probably all linked, as you say. I've got a little strange immune system thing with my eye - if I get very run down and tired, my body mistakes my right eye for a foreign object and starts attacking it! I've only had it 3 times before, all when I was doing hideous overnight work, but it came back a couple of days ago - my HV said this is probably the hardest point, when we are all knackered from cumulative lack of sleep, and LO's haven't quite hit a routine yet.... we are getting there though

Lovely morning - went riding for a couple of hours with OH, Nye (who rides in a sling with OH!), and 3 lovely ladies who were all happy to bimble along in the sunshine - then lunch at the pub and then they dropped me off at our house so that they could have a more exciting afternoon!

tinkhas2scrummygirls · 29/03/2009 16:16
