Oh and I would also have a long communal table with benches in my dream cafe a) to save space and b) to force a friendly vibe.

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 20:46

its only a small premises if we did that you wouldn't manage to get in to door !!

LoveBuckets · 11/03/2009 20:47

Oh ok, breakfast bar and high stools then

TwilightSurfer · 11/03/2009 20:50

Dizzy it might be one of those things that is brought to the table then lost at which point you can let the dust settle then bring it back to life with your vision and succeed.

Side Note: I'm not on vacation yet just trying to put things together so we can go on vacation. Things are in such disarray here that I'm having to reorganize my entire house so I can find what I need to take to the beach. How crazy is that?!? I did uncover our luggage today so I believe I'm heading in the right direction.

it sits on a corner looking directly out over the harbour, it could maybe have 4 or 5 tables and a breakfast bar along one window looking out but I wouldn't block the other one as it would spoil the view out for everyone else within

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 20:52

TS is the kitchen all done, have I missed the grand unveiling

buckets that crepe place has opened in covent garden? shall have to arrange to pop down for a crepeandKK meet up lol

PetitFilou1 · 11/03/2009 21:08

dizzy ooh ooh my sister has LOADS of experience with planning applications (she is an architect) - if you need it

First thing is you need to ring up the planning officer and get friendly with them before you even start - I did this recently when looking at changing our house around (we live in a barn conversion) - only to find out we would need full planning permission (including a bat survey ) just to enlarge a window and put in french windows in one, downstairs, room. And my sister estimated the architect drawings we would need would cost around £1000 .... so we're not doing that then! All I would say is that if I hadn't rung up I could easily have spent a long time filling in the online application form and would have made several assumptions/mistakes just from the off.....

Anyway, I'm wittering.....

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 21:11

pf thats great thank you, I have a copy of an email the bloke has already sent so was going to contact the girl myself. I tried to tell them last night they need to get an architect in to check out where the toilet has to go but he was

am very of your lovely barn conversion and your architect sister!!!

PetitFilou1 · 11/03/2009 21:44

Maybe a builder could do that though???

We also had to have a structural engineer look at our ceilings/beams.......it was a bit of an eyeopener/wallet opener so hence why we haven't put in our new kitchen yet!

Don't be it is a money pit. The people who lived here before basically moved in and didn't do a thing for 16 years. It has EATEN all our spare money and then some. The only reason we could afford it is because it was part of a farm that an estate grew up around. If you picked it up and put it in the middle of a field with lovely views it would have been way out of our price range. I am of our neighbours who have simpler and newer houses but lots of holidays! Not sure we made quite the right decision......

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 21:47

am not sure we made the right decision re our house either, am not quite sure if you can buy a lemon house in the same way you can a car but we're here now and can't do anything about it!

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 21:54

dizzy, committees needn't be a pita if you have a decent chair, which there clearly isn't at the moment if they are talking about sandwich fillings

aah pf, your place sounds much like ours (in an eats all your money kind of a way). It is finally getting there after 3.5 years.

Poor dh has to go to a friend's funeral tomorrow. He was only in his early 30's .

PetitFilou1 · 11/03/2009 21:55

Yep I reckon you can buy a lemon house

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 21:56

oh ataraxis thats terrible, was it sudden?

PetitFilou1 · 11/03/2009 21:57

ataraxis That would be fine if we weren't going to move again in precisely that sort of timeframe (as I strongly suspect we will)

at your dh's friend. It is a shock when that starts to happen isn't it?

I always do a curtain call don't I?

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 21:58

carbon monoxide poisoning from iffy boiler.

He has a small child as well

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 21:59

OMG, what a terrible terrible waste poor family

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 22:03

I know. Tis going to be very hard for family and friends tomorrow.

It's one of those times that really reminds me how lucky I am.

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 22:08

ah pf, we are planning on (fingers crossed, crossed, crossed) moving as soon as it is finished! Plan is currently to buy a newer build with simple maintenance - we shall see...

poppysocks · 11/03/2009 22:20

Oh ataraxis, how awful.

Great news to at least be moving forward with your idea Dizzy. Will look forward to hearing more and will always be on hand for any taste-testing.

pf and no1 - I can totally sympathise re: DHs. Mine does get stuck in with the DDs but does make me completely when he does things like producing his book (and not just any mindless trash) to get stuck into on the plane, even though we're travelling with two such small children. .

Glad things are looking more positive no1.

Thinking of you lots pertelote.

Have only managed a quick skim so really sorry to have missed anything/anyone.

Oh and bon voyage sazzles and TS.

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 22:20

good grief, DH obviously had too much wine tonight - I just showed him a christening invite I liked that I found online, was an example from a web page for him to see if he liked them

he remarked, yes they're very nice, the photo of the wee one is great but the name is wrong shall try not to end what has been a rather tense (mainly because of me & my neurosis) day in divorce

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 22:27

Not sure I am supposed to dizzy but

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 22:28

ooh, and am very at poppy being able to taste test, I will have to stick with the virtual taste variety

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 22:32

don't encourage him atarxis!!!

how did you get on with the new wardrobe btw?

ataraxis · 11/03/2009 22:37

sorry

bought some non-jeans trousers, and rediscovered some of my slightly unusual tops, that I can wear again - hooray!!

Thanks for your support in getting my thought process going again, I am getting there... Keeping an eye out for things, and I haven't worn a hooded top in weeks

Also, bought these lovely shoes to go with the silk dress for the wedding. Frighteningly expensive but I have been looking for months and I lurve them.

dizzydixies · 11/03/2009 22:44

lovely shoes
