nice to see people coming back. I find I have to take dd out regularly to do things as she is so active and inquisitive. she gets bored at home as it is just me and dh to interact with. i'm really enjoying getting out with her. we did baby massage today.

Hello, really relieved that I am not the only one with painful joints! Seriously thought it was arthritis! Thanks for link to thread Delgirl, v reassuring.
Had Freya weighed today and she is 16lbs5oz at 15 weeks! Legs like a sumo wrestler. Health Visitor said not to worry and that she is just a big baby (she is extremely long too) but said she thinks I should start weaning in a couple of weeks. Was determined to wait until six months because of risks of allergies etc (I had various allergies as a child) but she just seems starving all the time at the moment. Has started waking more regularly in the night and our 7am starts are now 5.45am starts! She does seem like an older baby (been standing, rolling, chatting etc from early on) so hope the weaning will be ok. Will soon find out!
Good to hear everyone elses babies are doing well x

Hiya All

Well me and Darcie r okay, i'm absoultly shattered don't know why, so i have to go for blood tests to check its not my thyroids! as i was borderline last time!

Darcie is starting to roll over now, she has done it a couple of time then can't do it again so she gets really frustrated!
Her bum goes in the air with the flick of the leg but she can't quite manage to get her arm round to come over!

She loves to stand doesn't like sitting all that long! she likes to see whats going on by standing on her own to feet!!!

Other than that alls well down south!!!!

leander · 02/08/2005 16:46

Verso: glad you and dh had a great night together AND sounds like you got the sitter AND a long bath. [warm and fuzzy emoticon]

Dd and I are off to visit her doting adopted auntie in Grantham tomorrow till Friday as once I go back to work in Sept I don't know when I will be going off to visit anyone.

on Sat we are off to Dartmouth for 2 wks. here's hoping for more catching up when I get back.

We had Christmas in July and bought a nifty digcamcorder. It works great. I think we have only one subject matter to record.

Verso · 03/08/2005 09:28

OMG!! For the last two nights DD has slept for SEVEN HOURS IN A ROW! I know this might not seem amazing to most of you with babies that actually sleep, but given that she was going 3h maximum, followed by 1h 30 (or less) chunks, it's fantastic!!

It's probably just a coincidence, but both nights I have tried her with two tbsp of baby rice. In any case, I have to say I feel like a new woman .

(Please don't tell my HV! I feel very naughty!! LOL. I know you're 'meant' to wait til six months to introduce solids, but DD was huge at birth and even the sainted Gina Ford [ironic emoticon here] suggests weaning bigger babies early...)

Oh, and I splashed out on the baby swing in the end and she has just napped in it for over an hour. Again, this is just amazing. God, I wish I'd had it at the beginning. It would have saved a lot of walks around the block with the pram in the pouring rain... not pleasant when you're severely sleep-deprived and unsteady on your feet.

Well, I am going to seriously regret posting this no doubt, as she will probably go back to her old ways tonight. We shall see!

Kelly1978 · 03/08/2005 09:43

It's been ages since i checked on here. It's great to see all the babies are doing well. Verso - glad to hear it is getting easier, once she has doenit a few times it should be come more regular, so fingers crossed.

The dts are doign well, they had to have a hip scan for possible cdh on saturday, which was really worrying me, but thankfully they got the all clear.

I started weanign just before 4 mnths, they now have half a jar each at 5 which helps their routine, and they love their food. Never have doen baby rice tho, think it is vile stuff. I weaned on to pure fruit. I've stopped bfing now too, as I need the freedom back, esp as we have booked a week in spain in a few weeks. Milk has nearly gone, but it has taken ages to make it dry up.

The babies are getting more demanding as they are much mroe aware and get bored easily. dt2 is very easily bored and wants an all day show and dance routine. dt1 is more laid back though. dt1 is sittign up nicely with support, very strong little boy!

Darciesmum · 03/08/2005 21:05

Hi

Verso glad to hear the news!!!
Kelly glad to hear the DTs r doing well!

Darcie had her last jabs today and is abit under the weather now! but finally got her to sleep, she can now sit up with a bit of support, and is soo nosey but i love it!

Verso · 09/08/2005 00:56

Spoke too soon! She's now doing 4-6 hours max. Oh well. Better than the all-time low of 45mins-1h 35 she was doing a few weeks ago. Bit worried this will continue even when I go back to work in October. Not sure how I'm going to cope with the sleep deprivation then!

DH helps from time to time, but mostly sleeps through her crying during the night . In any case, as he's having a relapse at the moment I can't really expect him to do more.

Bit of a joke yesterday. Went to the cranial osteopath for DD and it was my turn to be 'done' as well. They said, "your system feels exhausted" (no kidding?) and "you should get at least two full nights of sleep or you will never recover from the trauma of childbirth".

Dream on! A full night's sleep?!!!! God, I wish! Only succeeded in making me feel v low and angry about my situation. No way am I going to get a full night's sleep. I'm breastfeeding, FFS! Very very bitter and cross right now.

Oh well, enough moaning on here. I think DD has gone back down (listening) so I'd best go back to bed.

Verso · 09/08/2005 19:26

P.S. Sorry for the whingefest! Feeling a lot cheerier in the light of day .

aprilmeadow · 10/08/2005 17:28

Verso, are you going to start weaning at 4mths or continue to bf??

Jack still isnt sleeping through, he does every now and again, but nothing to get too excited about!! I am bottle feeding him and give him a combo of SMA Gold and SMA White - for hungrier babies - since i have done that he has gone through for the last 2 nights. I have decided to start weaning at 4mths as i am also going back to work in October and am hoping that the weaning might fill him up and encourage him to sleep through. Have you thought about introducing a bottle at night to see if that helps the sleeping?? Not wanting to encourage you to stop bf, just a thought really???

Would anyone mind if I joined this thread? My little boy is 18 weeks old and while I think and tell myself I am coping fine I really dont know what to do sometimes and dont know anyone with little ones the same age. My sisters kids were both very very prem so she had a totally different experience. It would be nice to chat with people in the same boat with same age. Quite frankly I have to start thinking about going back to work soon cos partner doesnt earn enough top support us all and the thought terrifies me!

Verso · 11/08/2005 09:04

Sorry lockets. If it's any consolation, I was up seven times with her Monday night . The 4-6h thing is a maximum, not every night by any means.

Hi and welcome, checky! How's it going?

Verso · 11/08/2005 09:06

(have already tried her on baby rice, carrot & potato... oops! She LOVES it! ).Don't tell my HV!!

yourlittleswampduck · 11/08/2005 09:42

Hi, mind if I join in too, this is such a great thread? I wish I had seen it weeks ago as it has been such a hard time. Eleanor is 14 weeks and 13lbs 10oz and a sufferer with colic.. mainly problems trumping which wake her through the night making her scream. I've moved from Aptamil to Omneo Comfort which has stopped the morning till night screaming fits she was having at least. I've tried everything under the sun - gripe water, Infacol, homeopathy, massage, Calpol and am just trying Colief again. I've picked up a few messages about food and wind, does anyone else struggle? I'm wondering about weaning but terrified in case it further upsets her system. I'm due back to work November but can't face the thought of it if I'm still getting so little sleep. Other than that, life's hunky dory

Roobie · 11/08/2005 17:52

Hi everyone and welcome to the newcomers.

Reading all your stories about night feeds makes me realise just how freakishly lucky I am with Alexander. All I have been doing is bf'ing him with no real thought or routine and somehow he has been sleeping through from 8pm to 7am for weeks now. I don't really know what I am doing 'right' that I could pass on as a tip - he must just be one of those annoyingly easy babies!

Are any of your lo's teething yet - A has been gnawing on his fists for ages and I have just noticed that one of his bottom teeth is through -bless!

He also has a slightly flattened head on one side which I have read up on and is down to him favouring this side while lying on his back. However I pointed it out in passing to our GP when I was there for something else recently and he has referred him to a paed!! I must admit I am a bit embarrassed to be going as I am 100%convinced that it is a really common thing ('positional plagiocephaly' if you google for it) but hey ho - who am I to argue with a clueless GP!

Roobie at Alexander sleeping from 8-7. Jack has gone 11-7 for the last three nights. So fingers crossed it continues.

Welcome to Checky and Yourlittleswampduck.

Going to start weaning next Sunday - that should be fun

yourlittleswampduck · 11/08/2005 20:36

Thanks for the welcomes. E has started the drooling and sucking of fists too and I swear it's teething. Poor things - it's such a good job they don't remember anything! You are very lucky to have such good sleep patterns. My friend with a baby the same age who is b'feeding is up every 2 hours with her...

yourlittleswampduck · 11/08/2005 20:39

ps. Roobie, I am sure all will be OK. They had E over to Alder Hey Hospital with a squashed nose after birth saying she may need plastic surgery - what kind of a thing is that to tell a woman who's just spent 27 hours in labour - and it was nonsense, and then we had the clicky hips scare so she had to have an ultrasound scan. I think they are over-cautious and I guess it's not ALWAYS such a bad thing...?

Darciesmum · 11/08/2005 21:44

Welcome Newbies!!!

Had Darcie weighed and she now weighs 14lbs 2oz so for 19 weeks is doing well, although she had been referred to a paed opthalmologist (sp?) as her eyes keep watering and not sure why!!

I had my Blood test results back and my thyroids r still on the low side but on the rise which is good!

And the good thing Darcie is still going from 8pm till 8am over nite, and i'm weaning and she has rice and fruit with an 8oz bottle in the morning, 8oz bottle for lunch, dinner and fromage frais and 8oz for tea and maybe 6oz top up b4 bed!!! then sleeps all nite!!!

I think Darcies front teeth will be cutting soon, as she is dribbling and eating her fists like crazy!

Hope all is getting better with those of u whose lovely babies r keeping u up at nite!!!

leggymamba · 17/08/2005 08:56

Sitting here with a really bad back - think it's caused by carrying two heavy squirming kids about. It's the first time I've had one and I now understand why people complain! Any ideas for making it better - currently dosed up on nurofen.

Just about to go on a picnic and go paddling in the stream - maternity leave is a great thing in good weather! Hope everyone else is enjoying the sun

aprilmeadow · 17/08/2005 16:17

Leggymamba, picnic sounds great might have to do that one day next week if weather stays nice.

Going into work tomorrow to discuss my return . Due to go back in Oct

Had Jack weighed on Monday and is now 17lbs 2.5oz!!

How many of you ladies have started weaning?? And how are you getting on with it?? I want to start Jack next week as he will be 4 mths next Wed. HV says i should leave it until at least 20wks if not 6mths and GP says go for it. So confused, should I, shouldnt i???

Verso · 18/08/2005 08:26

I'm due to go back in October too, Aprilmeadow. Not set in stone, but I don't see how we can manage without my salary as I'm the main earner in our household. Oh well. As it gets closer, the prospect of putting DD in nursery (even though we've found a really nice one) gets less and less appealing, but I suppose everyone must feel like this?

We've started weaning, and it's going well. Just tiny bits and pieces of food - baby rice, vegetables etc. I think I'll have to start cutting down on the breastfeeding soon as well, in order to get ready for going back to work. We had a difficult start, but now I quite enjoy it and I think I will miss it

Any advice from more experienced Mums?
