Seabird · 05/07/2005 23:12

have tried again changing title? hope it gets to you verso!

Congratulations on the potty training - I'm also aiming for August (but not saying when in August or which august!). I've not pushed it at all yet but dd asked to go for a wee on her potty yesterday for the first time. this time 5 years ago I would never have dreamed that a splash of wee in a plastic bowl would have been so exciting! My main concern is when we're out and about - not looking forward to be on the consent look out of loos had enough of that when i was pg!

Verso - hope things are looking better soon. I concur with everyone else it does get better - and you do forget how bad things got, look how many of us have got more than one! The babysitter idea is great - even if you don't sleep some time out is fantastic.

I'm having some really bad nights - unlike bronnie I can still remember the 2 hourly waking like it was last night because it was. Not sure what I'm doing wrong as ds has gone backwards. he's not going down until at least 10pm having a dreamfeed at midnight and still wakes at 2ish mouthing as if he's hungry. started giving him water instead of milk but not sure if he's too young for that as he's only 9 weeks. having problems constructing sentances from being tired....seems to be worse than when he was really little as haven't got the feel good hormones anymore and had one week of good sleep so was begining to get used to it! Any tips please!!!!!

Hi

Darcie had her second lot of injections today and was a really good girl, only cried for about a minute.

She has got a really good giggle going now and is sooo sweet!!!
I have started to wean her now, she is on baby rice for dinner and next 2 weeks going to start her on breakfast! she must like her rice with fruit coz she looks for more and happily smiles away!
I just can't believe she is 14 weeks today it has gone so fast.

Sorry don't have any advice for those whos babies r up all nite Darcie has slept right through since 7 days old!

Am I the only one on here who's baby won't settle herself to sleep yet? She's 12 weeks yesterday and it's driving me mad... I can totally tell when she needs a nap or a sleep - her cry is totally different - but she JUST WON'T GO OFF TO SLEEP.

The only ways that work are (a) breastfeeding and (b) going for a LONG - as in over an hour - walk with the pram.

All the books say you should put the baby to sleep awake so they learn to settle themselves, but she just makes herself ill from crying if I do that, which is horrible. If I pick her up and start rocking her, she smells milk and goes mad. I can rock her to sleep if she faces away from my boobs, but then I can't put her down without waking her up again!

HELP!!!!!!

Verso · 07/07/2005 10:12

am going out for a walk!

Kelly1978 · 07/07/2005 10:23

it must be so hard verso.
mine wont go off themselves very well during the day, but they do at night if it is dark and they are swaddled. i usually rock them in their car seats during the day, the buggy doesn't work for mine. does she like to be swaddled? or a dummy? mobile?

Gem1355 · 07/07/2005 13:40

Verso sorry to hear your still feeling bad, Have you tried putting Anneke to sleep in a different position, Darcie will only sleep on her back! Other than that hun can't really give you any advice as have had to worry about that!

Ended up going down to the health clinic in desperation and burst into tears. Hmm. Anyway, a lovely lady has just been round to see me. She is going to help me get this sleep thing a bit more sorted out. She also evaluated me for PND and I definitely have it. (There's a surprise!) So now I will just have to see what my GP says next week. She says there are some antidepressants that don't affect breastfeeding... and it may be possible for me to avoid having to take any... though she thinks I probably ought to.

Blimey.

And while all this was going on, the news from the centre of town was so dreadful. It does rather put things into perspective...

Kelly1978 · 07/07/2005 16:31

hi verso, I'm glad you are getting some help. pnd is not nice, I had it after dd. havign a young baby is hard as it is, without that to deal with as well. I hope you do get something for it soon, I found I could enjoy dd a lot more once I started feelign more like myself again.

motherpeculiar · 07/07/2005 20:26

hi hope all are well

haven't been on here much lately as two kids is keeping me VERY busy. Just posted on bf'ing topic about the sleepless nights. Esther waking every couple ofhours still so can I join that camp with Bronnie and Leggy. AAARRGH!

VERSO, so sorry things still hard for you. wrt the settling to sleep I'm afraid I think some babies are like that. my DD1 was like that and I remember being SO envious of people whose kids settled themselves to sleep. It is really really hard and I empathise. I'm afraid I never did work out what to do, but all I would say in retrospect is don't worry about feeding her to sleep if that is what it takes. I beat myself up over that last time as all the books say you shouldn't but I wish I hadn't. The only bit of practical advice I can give is to check whether you are reading her cues for tiredness properly. I'm much better at that with DD2and she settles much easier. THe baby whisperer is good on sleep cues. If you don't have it I can find my copy and let you know exactly what she says but basically there are some signs you need to keep an eye out for and when you see them swoop and get her off to bed. I also find swaddling in a big blanket really tightly works well for Esther during the day. Good luck.

SEabird, don't mena to poach but if your mother's help is still looking for extra hours (once she has sorted Verso out of course) could you cat me. I'll be looking for someone to come and look after Esther two days a week when I go back to work at end August. I'll be at home so it'll be like babysitting when the parent is still there ifswim. I'm not far from you.

apart from waking all night Esther is doing great. The crescendo of awfullness of behaviour from her big sister has calmed down and she is a pleasure to have around now (most of the time at least)

gotta go - didn't realise this would be so long!

aprilmeadow · 07/07/2005 21:20

Verso, my DS sometimes has trouble in falling to sleep by himself, so i just pop him in his buggy, tuck him up in his blanket and stick him infront of the tumble dryer - infact thats where he is right now!! Works everytime

hope it works for you x

Verso · 08/07/2005 07:50

thanks for the tips. unfortunately we don't have a tumble dryer though! will persevere with other things and keep repeating "one day at a time" to myself...

Kelly1978 · 08/07/2005 09:57

hoover makes a good alternative to the tumble drier. Used to use that when the twins were havign fits, usually stopped them in their tracks when they heard soemthing noiser than them.

rydercup · 08/07/2005 20:47

Hi All - havn't been on her at all since having baby Henry. If its any consoltion, this is second time for me and I am still finding it hard! The settling thing is soooo frustrating - we too are battling with this. I have introduced a little comforter for Henry - it goes everywhere with us and he is now starting to it and put it in his mouth. This worked a treat with my DS1 and eventually helped him feel very secure and trusting of is environment - might be worth a try Verso. I am still awake every 2-3 hours during the night - the only way I can get through is by having DS2 in bed with me most of the night!! Swore I wouldn't do this second time round but hey ho!!!! It is lovely mind! DS1 who is 2.5 is really starting to press the hot buttons - full scale tantrums most mornings - seems to have spent a ridiculous amount of time on the naughty step today! have a good evening all! Just gonna get a take away and settle down for big brother!

Darciesmum · 10/07/2005 19:37

Darcie had her christening today and went very well! She didn't cry or anything, but was sick over me in the service b4!

She looked gorgeous will post a pic once downloaded my photos!

Hope you have all had a nice weekend?

aprilmeadow · 11/07/2005 07:21

woohoo, Jack pretty much slept through the night for the first time. He went for 7.5 hours. 11pm to 6.30am. Not bad only took 11 weeks

Glad Darcies Christening went well. Did she have a traditional gown?

Darciesmum · 11/07/2005 08:48

April Meadow no she didn't have a traditional gown but it was a very nice dress!

Good to hear about Jack sleeping for that long!!!!

DelGirl · 11/07/2005 08:49

Good news Aprilmeadow. Maybe it was something in the air cos my dd slept from 8pm until 4.30am . The previous few nights i'd fed her at 10.30 but she still woke up after 3 hours. I wonder what tonight will bring?

DelGirl · 11/07/2005 08:52

Verso, so sorry things are so tough for you. I sincerely hope things improve for you soon xx

Darciesmum · 11/07/2005 11:24

I've managed to post some pictures on members profiles of Darcie yesterday!

Seabird · 11/07/2005 20:45

Hi everyone. Great news about jack sleeping through, aprilmeadow. And your dd too delgirl. Jasper managed 5 nights in a row last week (1130 til 7) then has reverted to waking at 5 the last 3 nights - the heat maybe?? Fingers crossed for us all tonight!

welcome to the postnatal board rydercup

motherpeculiar - looks like my mother's help is getting booked up but if she has any time I'll mention you to her. I got in touch with her via simplychildcare which doesn't cost an arm & a leg.

How are things with you Verso?

shrub · 11/07/2005 21:23

Hi everyone - only just started going on the internet again since my ds was born 11 weeks ago safe and well - baby Monty!
Now have 3 boys (5 and 2) so getting online is proving a challange!! Lovely to read everyones posts.
VERSO - have you tried putting a muslin square down your bra for a couple of hours and then putting it with her when you put her down. also find sling really useful during day and/or swaddling then putting mine in the carseat (rockatot) and rocking him to sleep.
CSA - having had hayfever for years and breastfed or been pregnant for the last 5 years I've found the following works:
1.Quercetin - you can get this at healthfood shop
2.water spray bottle (the type you can put on a fine mist by rotating the nozzle ) you find them at boots/superdrug in travel section. fill with water and spray yourself/room/people/near windows to dampen the pollen down
3.theres something called 'nasopure' - you could google it. its a device you fill with warm boiled water and a small amount of unrefined seasalt and squirt it up your nose to wash pollen away.
4. luffa complex by bioforce stops a sneezing fit
5. vasaline up nose and on and under eyelashes to catch the pollen before it starts to irritate
hope it helps x

aprilmeadow · 11/07/2005 22:36

Had Jack weighed today and he was 14lbs 12.5oz!!! Not bad for 11 weeks.

I have added a picture of Jack in members profiles.

alux · 12/07/2005 00:10

Who else has a petite baby? My dd weighed 11 pounds 4 oz at 10 wks. 12 wks tomorrow. though she went up to the 50%ile from the 9%ile in 4 wks much to my surprise. I thought she would keep tootling along at the bottom.

Oh, and she doesn't sleep thru the night either. always up once for a good feed.
