Systems - hope your lo is better soon

AliandHerScallywag · 11/03/2009 08:36

PP I was thinking about the giving up BF thing and remembered a thread in the feeding section that I saw a few weeks ago asking whether people had felt their PND was better once they stopped. Quite a few people seemed to find that once the BF hormones had calmed down they began feeling much better and more back to normal. It was only conjecture, so doesn't prove anything, but thought you might find it interesting.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/03/2009 09:14

Farkin sheep and the dawn chorus. DS started to wake at 5 again for feed has been going through until 6.30/7 and then the sheep decide to start this morning, usually one who is lambing, had lambs or lost them, right under my window.

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 09:42

sympathies re broken night -thought edie better but got woken at 4am as she was baking hot again -that said seems to have been ok for last hour or two so who knows what is going on (apparently eating my glasses and watching tv is quite restorative).

ali I think kids v.responsive to parental absence/early waking etc - edie is looking for dh all the time and she definitely wakes earlier/later if she doesnt see him at night - poor little thing kept looking round for him this morning and crying...

5can you not ask the sheep to have their domestic crises somewhere away from your window

vivaGlasvegas · 11/03/2009 10:55

morning all,

having a frustrating time at work, so time for some restorative MN.

C is so funny at the moment, she is desperately trying to learn to crawl, but hasn't quite got the jist of it. She keeps rolling onto her tummy, and then sticking her bum in the air and her face flat into the carpet. then she gets upset that she's not going anywhere...

We seem to have had a recent breakthrough with solids and she's actually eating a bit more, apparently my home cooking is far superior to jars and pots. flattering, but time consuming! In the mean time she stills weighs only 7kg (15lb 8 oz ) as of last week and is 5th centile - having been 75th. burning the charts as we speak...

PP sorry to hear about your PND and NZ trip. hope the new medication makes a difference.

SA six days!?

whinegums have a lovely trip to madrid. can't help with the connecting flight question about the buggy, but I'm thinking probably?

sympathies to those feeling unwell/with unwell babies, C and I were both really under the weather for about 2 weeks, and it's so lovely to feel human again!

legalguardians vs godparents, we've got different people for both. close friends who live near us for godparents, who can be involved in day to day life, and my sister and husbnad as legal guardians in the event of me and DH falling off our perches simultaneously. We chose them as my parents are more likely to be involved than the PILs, and sister's career is more suitable for childcare than DH's siblings.

megapost for me... must go and see if I can do any work yet or if system is still broken...

spongebrainbigpants · 11/03/2009 11:20

PP, I hope you're not sore for too long .

Sorry to all those with poorly babies - Alex has been sick twice again this morning and is very clingy. Have finally settled him in his cot because my arm is now numb from him sleeping on me all morning!

Hi to everyone!

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 11:41

oh sponge i know what you mean - edie seemingly permanently attached to my arms so very difficult to eat, drink or go to teh loo (or even mumsnet ) - anyone know if its normal for kids to have temps (no other symptoms ) for more than 24 hours.. its been nearly two days now (and yes seh does have bouts of being nearly normal after drugs)... I know logically its not abnormal but I do get a bit pfb when we seem to be stuck in this loop (plus its very wearing obsessively checking for other signs like a rash).

spongebrainbigpants · 11/03/2009 11:45

poppy, I would phone your doctor if I were you - our GP is happy to phone back and do a consult over the phone if that's any help?

Don't know whether it's normal or not I'm afraid .

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 11:50

I went yesterday afternoon - did full exam which eliminated what I already knew (ie no rash, other symptoms etC) and told me to keep dosing with calpol etc - was also given a urine sample bag which I had to fill (well edie did) which is not the easiest ask.

may ask for another appt but not sure what they'll say really... also given I had appt yesterday wonder if all they will do is send me to a&E with her...

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 11/03/2009 11:53

poppy It could just be a virus. My girls (dd2 a couple of weeks ago) can have a temo for a couple of days with no other symptoms. It may be a uti in which also in a baby show no symptoms other than a temp. WOrht getting her checked out for peace of mind.

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 11:53

got an appt with dr tactless again.. I am tired , I know I'm probably worrying unnecessarily but i daresay I'll come out of this feeling worse than I did before.

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 11:54

thanks going - my rational thought was the virus thing ( I know I can feel like that myself for a few days and it goes as suddenly as it comes)..its just so tricky when they can't talk

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 11/03/2009 11:54

cross posted. The temp has only been for 24 hours, unlikely they would send her to a&e. As she was seen yesterday I would wait another day.

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 11:57

been 48 by this afternoon but I think you're right that unlikely to send her to A*E - trouble is dr tactless has history of being well very by the book and extreme (he spooked me terribly when I went to see him with my blocked duct)

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 11/03/2009 12:02

Hopefully he will put your mind at rest. It is really sad when babies are so ill as there is not much you can really do. When ds was about three months old he had a temp and stopped feeding. I took him to the gp the morning after the temp started, then that afternoon and then to a&e in the evening! The a&e dr told me to bring him back the next morning if he didn't feed and they would admit him then but of course like he said he would he fed when we got home!! I don't see myself as being particually neurotic but ohers may have another diea after reading that! I am much calmer with the girls and rarley take them to the dr's as they can tell me if something hurts.

Essie3 · 11/03/2009 12:13

Just popping in briefly - loads of work to do - but thought I'd comment on Abdn and the sudofed - yuk, I'm going to stop bfing now that I realise that milk is mucous!

Duh, that was stupid. Posted without realising that there was a second page.
Iestyn is a bit off at the mo too - refusing to eat. But thankfully he slept last night with the occasional wake up for a dummy (worse than our current 'usual', but better than 3-hourly night feeds! ) Anyhow he's in nursery now and I have limited time so must get on with work...

DebInAustria · 11/03/2009 12:32

Poppy - hope Edie soon recovers, what temperature is she? and how did you get her to fill the urine sample bag?

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 12:34

she is about 39 at wrost but goes back down to normal at times..and the answer is I haven't -its sort of a stick on thing (in her nappy as we speak)..

I spoke to NHS direct - they were actually better than gp as went over all symptoms and were quite reassuring (trouble is you read all books saying go to GP if temp doesnt come down within 24 hours wherease she was saying that you can have fever for 2/3 daqys with no other symptoms).

now wondering if its ott to go to gp later (I'll probably get a PFB sticker on my file )

DebInAustria · 11/03/2009 12:34

Just listening in to S and T talking, S said something would be unfair, T replied "sometimes life is unfair" - he's 7!

DebInAustria · 11/03/2009 12:35

Ethan's had a temp for a couple of days before, I didn;'t see the Dr as there were no other symptoms

poppy34 · 11/03/2009 12:37

lol at S&T .. so trye

deb I should know better really being a doctors daughter we had dead/alive as our illness status growing up.

anyone else saddened by this whole julie myserson thing in the press?

PiggyPenguin · 11/03/2009 13:28

Deb -they are funny with the whole world weary thing aren't they! On discovering she has a different teacher at school today dd say 'oh but she's the worst teacher in the world!' Which seems a bit extreme given that dd is 5 and has less than 2 terms experience of school to comment with! She is prone to such statements though. When ds1 was complaining about something the other day I heard her tell him, 'oh for goodness sake just get on with it'. Umm. Wonder who she got that particular gem from .

Poppy - my two often have temperatures for a few days without other symptoms and it is always a virus. I say this with confidence as everytime I take them to the dr's that's what they tell me, along with there is nothing anitbiotics can do. These days they need to be ill for several days before I go anywhere the dr's. I'm sure I have that pfb sticker on my notes from ds1!

DebInAustria · 11/03/2009 13:59

Sybil - lol at your dd!

bitofadramaqueen · 11/03/2009 15:32

Hi everyone,

Just popping in. Not had much time to lurk or post lately. We had a minor car incident on Sunday which has left us carless (what is the point of having a policy with a courtesy car if 3 days later you're still waiting for the garage to assess the damage before giving you a courtesy car?!?!? ) and it was the worst time as S starts nursery this week.

He seems happy enough at nursery so far, but I was a bit p'd off on Monday (when he just went in for an hour) and they didn't change his nappy because he seemed happy enough (even though I said I thought he needed a change). When he got home yesterday is nappy wasn't on brilliantly (he's in cloth) which I suspected might be the case as they weren't in any rush to pay attention when I wanted to show them how to put on his nappies. Also he didn't sleep after lunch yesterday, but got a bit upset after lunch... which is exactly what always happens after his lunch and is a cue to give him his dummy and put him down for a nap.

Anyone got a PFB sticker for me

birthday buddy viva - sorry to hear about he weight stuff, as you know I've had something similar with S. HAven't bothered weighing him lately - thought I'd give him a week or two at nursery and see how his weight is then.

Oh, that's another thing... His report for the day showed that he had a yoghurt after lunch. I have no problem with this except the nursery menu has one lunch course (no 'pudding') and morning and afternoon snacks. I'd given him a yoghurt just before he went (because he wasn't going to be there for morning snacks).

Sorry, did someone have those PFB stickers

Have another assignment to do so will have to run, sorry not to catch up - great news sponge and sorry to hear about temperatures and PND.
