Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

starlight yes we'll go on Saturday, C's cough seems to be going so I don't think we'll be too germy!

Hey everyone, approximately how much do all your babies weigh now by the way? C is 14 pounds 9, 6.6kg. I was just wondering about all of yours, might be interesting to compare!

plusonemore · 19/03/2009 10:00

16 lb 2oz @ 23 wks +1

imoscarsmum · 19/03/2009 10:09

26 weeks and 15lbs. She's a small baby and has always been around 25%ile. Not bothered as long as she's happy/healthy.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/03/2009 10:17

M has had a massive growth spurt in the past month. He was putting on 0.2kgs every two weeks, then in the last four weeks he put on 1.2kg. It's not the weaning as he has only really been weaning for a week. My milk must have turned into extra thick double cream!

So, now I have justified my son's weight, here goes:

Birth weight: 9lb 11oz
weight at 27 weeks: 20lb

Beat that

Very excited - just bought C some baby sunglasses. Come on summer!!

Jenbot · 19/03/2009 10:51

starlight - actually, we won't come on Saturday!
Just had a phone call. A baby we saw at the weekend has measles, and it strted with a bad cough apparently.

I'm really worrying now about the first baby, about C of course, and the fact that I went to baby clinic to get her weighed and looked at this week because I knew she'd been a bit under the weather I wanted to check her weight, what if we've given it to other babies there?

Pacita · 19/03/2009 10:55

Ok, so gave Diego a bottle at 7:30 yesterday. He gobbled it up like there was no tomorrow. He then only woke up at midnight, so fed him again. He woke up at 2:30, but I just settled him and left. He protested for a bit, but I ignored it and he fell asleep. I fed him again at 4. He then woke up at 6:20, at which point I took him to my bed. Of course, we both then fell asleep until 8.

So the formula made a small difference, but not huge. I would really like to know why he's waking up. Is it hunger, is it habit? And how do you break that pattern?

Starlight, it feels good, to be honest, even if I'm slightly sad about it. I am in this slightly schizophrenic position, where all the mums around me in RL are militant breast feeders, but all my Spanish family is aghast at the fact that I'm still EBFing. In fact, they even think I am irresponsible for bringing bubs into bed with me in the morning, and am making things more difficult for the future. And I'm generally too tired to fight either corner.

imoscarsmum · 19/03/2009 10:58

aRGGH. Must stop net shopping while C sleeps. Just bought tickets to see Andrea Bocelli in November at £100 each. someone stop me!!!! have always wanted to see him though.

LOL at babystarlight feast.

Well, I have to report that I gave Diego his first lunch of baby rice (who the hell invented this god awful, wallpaper glue substance?) which he absolutely adored and could not get enough off. I can't believe it myself, but if he thought that tasteless gloup was the dog's cojones, something tells me he's going to love it once something more substantial comes his way. Carrot tomorrow, I reckon.

I have to confess: the baby rice was particularly tasteless because, in haste, I made it with water, not milk... But I did give him a good feed after.

He is now utterly conked out in his cot. I wonder if the two are related...

Potxola, I'm off on holidays to Tenerife next Wednesday, and I definitely need a new sling before I go off. I'm 80% set in the storchewiege, but I'm wondering whether it will be too hot for the summer. What do you think? The other option I'm contemplating is the calin bleu gauze, which is light and airy. Any thoughts from anybody?

Jenbot · 19/03/2009 12:39

starlight, I probably shouldn't get into a panic. I can't help it sometimes.

But, I would feel too terrible if she did end up with measles and then other babies got ill too. So I'll leave it 'til next time I think.
Boo.

Oh and I forgot to give Clara's age with her weight - 33 and a half weeks (but 25 and a half corrected)!

Thanks Starlight
T has been a pain in the bottom today (literally) - he's obviously building up to another poo (the farting was particularly impressive this morning), so he's a total misery again. Was up at least every hour last night, fed 3 of those times, and I'm having to jiggle the pram constantly to get him to take a lunchtime nap - he was so tired he kept falling asleep mid-grizzle, then waking and grizzling again 3 seconds later.
Formula for him tonight! I want to know whether it's just a coincidence that he slept better the night of the formula or not.

Pacita I've made baby millet porridge (basically baby rice but millet instead of rice) 3 times, but each time I've chucked it instead of offering it to T (he will grab a loaded spoon from the table and suck off the contents, we have discovered) as it just tastes so incredibly bland!

T has been having brita filtered tap water, like me and DP, since we started offering it about a week ago (he was 6 months 2 days ago). He is totally unimpressed with it, but I think it's more to do with the whole procedure of drinking rather than the taste of the water - he's no more impressed with juice in the cup (bad mummy emoticon - I wanted to see if he'd drink anything from the cup!)

hi everyone, just cought up on the last 15 pages! sorry to hear about the poorly babies and mummies.

been busy with RL, DP loosing his job, me getting tonsilitis etc.
we're doing a mix of BLW and purees. we're on week 3 or 4 now, did only BLW to begin with to get M interested in food, but then it was impossible to eat anything without her screaming for food too . she eats whatever we have really and OMG her poos are so smelly! she also poos a lot less often. but she loves eating. we've even missed the mid-morning bf today, (had a bit of issues after being so ill last week I had to miss 1-2 bf a day, luckly I had a few feeds in fridge/freezer)

no rolling or anything, she hates lying down, but getting pretty good on her walker. she back-crawls in her cot though a lot the little tinker, so already she sleeps little during the day, now she just spends half her nap back-crawling and chatting. she is a great chatter and singer though

hopefully fig syrup thing was great for DS' constipation, hope it helps T

can't remember who was talking about wraps... but I've recently dicovered (and bought) ellevill Zara, they're great, a bit thinner than didymos, but sooooooooooo supportive and soft from the start

Hopefully · 19/03/2009 15:01

Starlight I checked that filters don't add anything nasty, but it never even occurred to me to check whether they take away anything beneficial! I will have to get onto google...

T has been making the poo face (purple, straining, very painful looking) alternated with groaning for 20 mins now... Actually beginning to wonder whether to phone NHS direct and ask how to encourage a poo out! Not sure I want to hear the answer though

Hopefully · 19/03/2009 15:20

Oh yuck yuck yuck. I can confidently state that T is officially weaned. Food has gone in, food has come out. Looking much the same...

CarrieBo · 19/03/2009 15:39

Good work T! And BS! Ds still mad on his purees and not interested in blw. Oh well! We have to defrost our freezer so we're aiming to eat the contents of it this week. Chicken stock and apple puree look quite similar though

imoscarsmum · 19/03/2009 16:21

Starlight I've tried to get tickets to see him in the past and they sold out in days. Booking this early is only way I can get them. Fairly nr front row though . We have no plans to emigrate and have months to pin down a babysitter too!

We had first proper 'feed' poo today - more solid and with bits in!!

Anyone else finding that with weaning, it throws naps and milk feeds out?? we had a nice little routine of eating and napping and now I haven't a clue when she'll next need milk as she's eating breakfast most mornings. She had bite size shredded wheat from my bowl today, and banana.
Pasta and tomato sauce for tea!

Oh, and my sister recommended pancakes as a really easy finger food (along with well cooked omlette), so I'm sure BS will be fine.

barnpot · 19/03/2009 17:58

hi ladies, just had a call from the consultant, el's eeg has come back normal, which is fantastic, hes still having a few of these do's but they are getting less, and speaking to one of the mums who does our walk on a friday, she was saying that one of her friend lo did this kind of hing when he was teathing, and low and behold, his first tooth is breaking through, i wonder if its connected?
weaning going well here too.
els was weighed 2and half weeks ago and was 11lb 4oz, but hes had a massive growth spurt since, he get weighed again in a week so will update

digitalgirl · 19/03/2009 18:49

well done babystarlight! A had pancakes for breakfast this morning. Along with banana (still unimpressed, I don't really know why I keep offering it to him) and a slice of melon.

and well done baby T for officially letting us know you've been weaned!

pacita congratulations for getting this far with BFing! If you're happy and Diego is happy then that's all that matters.

I'm also beginning to wonder about the practicalities of continuing to BF when I go back to work. If I'm not home till after 7 (due to stupidly long commute, grrrrrr), it's likely A will have already gone to bed so how can I feed him in the evening? So now I'm thinking, perhaps working part-time hours 5 days a week is better. But is it better to see A for four full days and hardly at all for three. Or is it better to see A for two full days and a few hours in the morning and evening on the other five? This is making my headspin.

starlight I have no 'rights' wrt my job. I started when I was pregnant, so I'm not entitled to anything really. There's only 6 of us in the company, so no junior staff to shadow me. I knew what I was getting into when I joined, I just didn't expect them to move so far away or that if they did that I would be so bothered by it.

A is currently crying upstairs with DH. Last night was a complete disaster. We've been completely inconsistent wrt shush-pat and picking him up when he wakes. So A woke at 12 and didn't go back to sleep till 1:45 after CIO for the last 20 minutes . We're confusing the poor little mite because DH has been picking him up earlier and earlier and or patting him for too long so A has no opportunity to try and get himself to sleep. So bad cop took over and I alternated between stroking his head/back and sticking my fingers in my ears . Was very upsetting for all concerned. I am rubbish at this sleep training bollocks. There's been no improvement at all in the last few days. But I did say we'd give it two weeks and tonight's the last night - but I don't know if the last week counts because DH and I have each been responding to him differently. Am ranting again, but refuse to post in the sleep section as I would probably be flamed for letting DS cry.

becaroo · 19/03/2009 19:03

imoscarsmum god, I am jealous...I LOVE Andrea Bocelli...him singing Ave Maria reduces me to tears every time. sigh.....
