Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

ponymum if you're trying to introduce a new bedtime, then consistency is key. You might find that some nights she'll not be ready to go to bed at that time. As long as you keep getting her ready for bed at the same time eventually she'll start to feel sleepy at that time.

Although don't know if I'm the best person to advise. DH just cried. Because A just cried himself to sleep again. And he wanted to pick him up. But we'd agreed that we wouldn't. Just shush-pat every 10 minutes. So now I feel like the cold-hearted ice-queen for sitting downstairs the entire time catching up on MN. I thought he was dealing with it, but he obviously finds it too stressful. I really am bad cop.

Saying that, A slept through last night. I woke up about 3 to pull a blanket off him and then again about ten minutes later to shut his door a bit more. But he slept till 6 something when we could hear him happily talking to himself. I wonder how tonight will go after that half hour of heartfelt sobbing. He's deeply asleep now of course.

ninja · 21/03/2009 20:29

re nights - I've given up. I feed M when she wakes in a semi-lying position that means I'm half asleep and I hardly even clock watch anymore. Clockwatching didn't make the 7 wakes a night any more vearable

I'm certainly hoping for a in-her-own-room miracle

I'm bored of this weaning lark - can I go back to EBF??

plusonemore · 22/03/2009 06:17

well dreamfeed didnt work. I literally did dreamfeed at 10.30 (he pretty much stayed asleep) drained a bottle of formula, back to bed no probs. then woke me at 2 for more grrrrrrrrr. If he's going to wake then anyway I'm not going to bother staying up to do a dremafeed. Gonna go back to my plan of keeping the nighttime feeds short as poss, then when he's better (at the moment I fear this will be when he's 8 years old) I will do NO MILK AT NIGHT. Happy Mothers day indeed

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY
I see we can't stay away from mn on our day.

DH gave me a lie in then the older dc's came flying in with some chocs and cards so I had to get up at 9.
Now in the middle of making a roast chicken dinner (daren't let dh as half would be over cooked and half still raw) the we are off to see my mum for the afternoon so dh can watch Hull City lose in peace.

CarrieBo · 22/03/2009 14:27

Great work on the sleeping BS and all the others who have given their mummies a mothers day lie-in of sorts!

Yesterday ds didn't have his 10min catnap late afternoon, so went all the way through to bedtime from waking up at 2pm. He was a high maintenance baby who wouldn't be put down for the last couple of hours of the day, but it was worth it coz he slept til 7:30 this morning instead of his usual 6:30. Hooray! I got a new kettle for mothers day and I love it . And yesterday I went shopping in town. On. My. Own. First time I've been out in the day without any children since August. I honestly couldn't remember how to shop, I just wandered round for ages not being confident enough to pick things up. But once I got started it all came flooding back . It was when I didn't recognise any of the staff in starbucks that I realised how long its been! Got some nice tops and some combats from Fat Face, all with my birthday money and vouchers.

swiss bless your dh for being at the supermarket before it opened!!

I was thinking about new thread title, maybe something to do with the fact that the babies might start crawling while we're on the next thread?!!!

CarrieBo · 22/03/2009 14:31

jenbot re: holidays...we've taken to renting self-catering holiday cottages. We did the Lakes and Norfolk last year, and its Suffolk this year. Actually that's a lie. We've taken to saying to our parents and in-laws 'wouldn't you love a week in (enter name of place you fancy visiting) with your grand children?' And then suggest they book it...and then they end up paying, and you get a night out during the week coz you've got live-in baby sitters. This works particularly well for us coz both sets of grandparents live 250ish miles away and relish the opportunity of a week with the kids. Otherwise we've done the sleep in buggy trick with a coat thrown over for 'instant blackout'. Holiday cottages are also good coz the kids can have their own rooms.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/03/2009 19:29

Whereabouts in Suffolk CarrieBo? I might be able to suggest some places to visit.

lol at not recognising the staff in Starbucks!

Jenbot · 22/03/2009 20:39

Thanks Starlight and CarrieBo. We haven't actually got anything booked but we were just thinking of going somewhere for a little break before my maternity leave is over.

C's cough is getting better slowly and no measles so far... Fingers crossed they stay away!
She's still pooing v often though and still wants to be up all night for some reason - argh. DH has been sleeping in the other room for 4 nights now because she's so noisy at the moment at night (not crying, just chatting or moaning a bit). He's never needed to do that before in the 8 months she's been here!

How was yesterday Starlight?

Ponymum · 22/03/2009 21:15

Happy Mothers Day everyone!

Well I was about to post earlier today, to say, 'What a perfect first Mothers day I am having'. Then as I was thinking I'll just get on MN, DD vomited like never before. And I was holding her face to face. And singing. And .... it went in my mouth. !!!

I know that sounds terrible, and if someone else told me it had happened to them I would be horrified. But I didn't even think that. I was more concerned for DD and the pool of vomit she was standing in. We were both totally soaked. Luckily DH was just running a bath for me as an afternoon treat, so I wiped myself down and got in, and he cleaned up DD and brought her to me in the bath. So it all turned out OK.

And thanks everyone for the bedtime encouragement. Although last night's efforts seemed a failure, we put DD down at 8pm tonight and after a couple of grizzles she went straight to sleep!

Debs75 · 22/03/2009 21:51

Carriebo Lol att he kettle you are so easily pleased. Hope you get the toaster to match.

Had a nice day all in all, Robyn is definitely teething, her cheek is really red and she is pretty grumpy. Well that could be due to the fact she hasn't pooed since Wednesday. If I give her teething gel she sucks madly on it then smiles at me before nodding off. She is now upstairs asleep but not holding my breath she will stay there.

digitalgirl · 22/03/2009 22:34

Teething here too!

Poor A has been very clingy today. Not eating much, but feeding frequently (mainly because he's had loads of short naps). Seems to perk up after some teething gel, but 30 minutes later he's back to groucho.

He went to sleep ok though. Good nights are alternating with bad nights. We're having a good night.

I got some lovely flowers and choccies for my first mother's day!

Glad you're having a good night too ponymum

Hope Toby gets better Bec

Sassyfrassy · 22/03/2009 22:51

Happy mother's day everyone. I got treated to chocolates and a paint it yourself piggy bank that dd1 has promised to pain for me =) DH took her shopping and let her choose herself.

Sorry to hear Toby isn't feeling Becaroo, hope he gets better soon.

Hopefully · 23/03/2009 02:43

Happy not-quite-mothers-day-any-more! I am just up giving T his first feed of the night since going down at 8:45, which is pretty bloody impressive, believe me. Think getting to 2:30 without a feed/multiple resettlings has only happened once or twice in the past month. We has a horrendous night on sat night (up every hour, once or twice up for 1.5 hours), and T has been off all of his feeds, and we suddenly wondered if he might be teething, so gave him teetha and calpol before bed and voila!
DP sent me for a pedicure for M-day, which was absolutely lovely

*Ponymum lol (and also eeeewwww!) at the vomit incident!

Becaroo hope toby improves quickly.

plusonemore · 23/03/2009 07:09

ponymum

all i ever seem to do on here is moan about sleep, sorry
well woke and fed at 9.30, 2 and then up for the day at 5 although managed to entertain him for 20mins by putting his mobile on. Not hungry at 5, just wants company, infact have kept him waiting til 7 for first proper feed of the day as i have decided to try GF this week! Gonna start with the 4-5 month routine if i can, and as he seems better this morning i am not going to be giving any milk in the night. Ha!

Hopefully · 23/03/2009 08:17

ear tugging - teething or ear infection? T has been constantly tugging on his ear this morning, is otherwise healthy, no temp...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 23/03/2009 08:44

Probably teeth, or he has found a new toy to play with

OP posts:
jenpet · 23/03/2009 08:47

Hopefully ear tugging = tired imo! Or it always has been with my 2...

Hope you all enjoyed your day yesterday - not Mothers day in France til June (although as I had one son in England & one in France, I kind of think I should celebrate both )

After Saturday nights wonderful dropped dream feed & sleep through we've gone backwards slightly - woke at 2.30am last night & fed LOADS (although I'm not sure if it was the v.noisy overloaded washing machine that disturbed him, it woke me up!) Anyway, not bad still....

ninja · 23/03/2009 10:41

well after a week of between 4 and 8 (yes EIGHT) wakings and feeding each night - M did and amazing 7.5 hour sleep from 7.30 - 3.00. I did do that typical Mother, is she alive? thing...

Then woke at 5, 6 and 7 but I don't care. Se CAN do it.

No doubt tonight will be abck to normal but there's light
