Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Buying washable breast pads to save money does not work if you throw them away.
I started with 12 and now have 4

Putting cloth nappies on the line to get rid of stains does not work if you don't turn the stain towards the sun.

I swear I am more tired now then I was when Robyn was a newborn

Imo I have never thought of putting Robyn for a daytime nap in her grobag, might try it on the days were not out as she drops off quite quick in it on a night

Last time I went to the hv i got a handout from the leicstershire nhs nutrition and dietretic service and its says that after 6 months - 26 weeks - tap water does not need to be boiled.

Love the parsley tip Pacita! I really like hearing different cultural babycare stuff, and that was interesting about the veal flavour weaning food too Jenpet! Starlight oh no, hope you are OK!

We just had a two hour daytime sleep, that never happens! I got so much done!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/03/2009 13:23

pacita - carrot is a good first food. And the explosive poo could well have been the formula. Did it smell different too? If so, it probably was the formula.

I am feeling like a new woman!

Ooh, in other news I just found out I'm getting a (very small) bonus, despite recession. Wasn't expecting it at all, so even though it's only about 1/4 of the bonus I had the year before, I'm rather thrilled! Obv I am not a banker who earns millions in bonuses. Think of a good bonus being about enough to buy a decent new telly rather than a house in corfu.

CarrieBo · 20/03/2009 13:48

starlight I hope you're armed with a week's supply of fluconazole and are feeling better soon

debi I know what you mean about the fear of waking dc1...!

imoscarsmum I'm afraid you've just summed up why I don't do BLW - taking a long time to eat not very much and still being hungry.

I've gone for the 'fill him up with purees while experimenting with finger food on the side' option. I know that goes against the 'food for fun until they're one' mantra, but ds eats well and sleeps through the night so I'm still with gina I'm afraid. Maybe I should call my next child Gina?

I'm slightly worried about what's happening to me. Two days ago I cleaned the oven, last night I spent a couple of hours sorting the junk in the loft, and I'm giving serious consideration to doing some gardening. Who is this person and where is the lazy sloven I know and love?

Well done you hopefully! Nice to know there are good employers who don't overlook those on mat leave!

CarrieBo · 20/03/2009 13:49

And no, I'm not pregnant

Ponymum · 20/03/2009 14:24

starlight if you feel like your breasts are filled with ground up broken glass with needles shooting through them, and you weep when you BF, then yep, it's thrush. From one who knows exactly how painful that is. You poor thing. High dose flucanzole and Dr Jack Newman - though I am sure I don't need to tell you this!

I am about to go to Boots to buy every possible teat that exists as DD still will not take a bottle. Have had two trial sessions at nursery now, both unsuccessful. This morning I dropped her off starving hungry and they did their best, but she still refused. Then guzzled from me of course. Well I don't blame her. She is not ready for cup delivery either, as she is just playing with it really. All babies crack eventually don't they?

You're all writing too much!!

Firstly M:

born 7lb 2oz

25+2 16lb 6oz (on the lighter scales)

Well done starlight for starting the food

imoscarsmum I'm worried about the time too - but just trying to remember the amount of food isn't important at this stage

Greadt news barnpot

more later!

ninja · 20/03/2009 17:52

starlight ouch - I got it at around 6 months with my dd1. At least you know the right treatment, altjough I ended up with a complete anti-thrush diet being the only thing that helped. Are you nipples a different consistency and slightly shiny?

ninja · 20/03/2009 17:55

wow starlight you give me hope. we're getting M's room doen soon and I'm really hoping it'll help.

When you say on the floor..........?

digitalgirl · 20/03/2009 19:19

carriebo you can come round and clean my oven if you're still feeling energetic

starlight lol at kitchen floor!

hopefully lucky you! so will it be a new telly, a luxury weekend away for you and DH or a mini-quad bike for T?

DH is currently putting A to bed on night 2 of feed before bath. Was worried that as he only had his dinner (eaten ravenously) at 5:30 he wouldn't be hungry enough, but it seems he was so hopefully he's tanked up for the night.

Birth weight 7lbs
At 27 weeks 18lbs 3oz

Hopefully · 20/03/2009 19:46

DG a small contribution towards a camping holiday, a haircut and some clothes I think! A bit of a smarten up.

Starlight I had mild thrush for ages before I got it treated - yours sounds like mine was before it got bad - not being agonising doesn't mean it's not thrush!

digitalgirl · 20/03/2009 20:43

hopefully good plan!

A went down happily without a peep. In HIS OWN ROOM. My little teeny tiny baby who once slept next to me is a big boy now . There is a big gap in our bedroom where the cot was...

ninja · 20/03/2009 20:59

DG I'm anticipating the gap in a couple of weeks - I can't blieve it.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 20/03/2009 23:08

no gap here, the would be/was nursery is our laundry/storage/junk room so we need to find space for all that first! probably will end up where the cot is now, at least the piano and laundry will... not sure about the rest though! need a bigger house!!!! need to get decluttering though...

DD wouldn't stop eating tonight! I gave her some big broccoli florets, a couple of cauliflower and potatoes and wow!! she just ate everything, and then "used" my hand to pick up cumbs she couldn't! went on for an hour, and still wanted more afterwards!!! so DS had to show he's the big brother and swalled a tiny bit of broccoli ... but she looked so cute with these bits of veg bigger than her!

plusonemore · 21/03/2009 06:28

starlight at asleep on the kitchen floor

and for all of you missing your babes in your rooms

well finally a good night hurrah!! I was out, he wokeat 10 ish and DH gave him a bottle of formula, he slept til 6! Maybe I should reintroduce the dreamfeed for a bit.

ninja · 21/03/2009 09:16

Well we're officially starting weaning today - (we're just ignorong the bits she's been stealing for the last week )

DD chose her first breakfast - yoghurt with mashed banana. Not sure that holding out a spoon for her to put in her mouth is truely in the spirit of BLW. Fun to watch though

ninja · 21/03/2009 09:16

Look how many posts, we need to start thinking of a new name

Ponymum · 21/03/2009 11:26

OK it's official. DD's nights are definitely worse since we started weaning. Or is it that we have also semi-successfully introduced a bedtime at 8pm - 9pm? (She used to stay up with us until 10:30 - 11 pm but thankfully that's over now).

So is it the weaning, or is it that she has shifted her expectation of when "night" is and hence wakes up more often and earlier? I had hopes of dropping the night feed soon (hmmf! when it used to be just the one! ) but now that it's back to several feeds per night my plans have gone out the window. We want to get her into her own room shortly. Until 2 weeks ago this seemed totally on track - with a fantastic sleeping-through pattern about 50% of the time, other times just one sleepy night feed.

I have a vague feeling that I should try the following:

  • Put her down at 8pm consistently every night
  • Even if she is fast asleep, feed her at 11 pm when I go to bed
  • Try my hardest to make her last until 5 am or 6 am, then push that out to 7 am if the above is successful.

Does this sound like the right thing to do? Any other suggestions? Also when are people feeding food / milk in relation to your LO's "bedtime"? Any successful patterns? (or dare I say, routines? )

jenpet · 21/03/2009 13:32

Well, success in the Jenpet house last night too! I've been umming and aahhing about dropping this dreamfeed - messing about with reducing it by 1 minute every night etc - so last night I thought oh well, it's not a school night I'll just not do it & see what happens - what happened was I went in at 7.30am in a blind panic thinking whats happened?! He was smiling at me & trying to grab his mobile!! I'm very, very pleased!
Thinking of all of you having to put LO's in their own rooms - S has been in his own room from the start, and I slept in there with him in the beginning, so there's been no bog wrench...
Took him to baby-swimming for the first time this morning too - he didn't cry, but didn't laugh a whole lot either - and he did a poo on my dress when we were getting dry

Jenbot · 21/03/2009 17:40

I have a stupid question...

When you goon holiday with a baby, what do you do in the evenings? Like, if they go to bed at 7, do you have to eat your dinner before, then sit in with them, or do babies sleep in a buggy in a restaurant after their usual bedtime then get transferred to a cot when you get back to the room?

Jenbot · 21/03/2009 17:42

And I meant to say before - barnpot, great news about the results!
