Hello ladies.

Pull up a chair, grab a biscuit and lets start talking about puree vs blw and sleep deprivation

Actually pacita I have one more bit of advice. When I moved dd onto formula she got really bunged up, so I changed formula and she got breastmilkyish poos again (cow and gate worked for her) so be prepared to chop and change until you find the one that suits.

CarrieBo · 24/02/2009 23:05

Oh and another thing...hospital weighed ds and he's 14lb, which means he's only a few ounces off doubling his birth weight, which is fab, but he's nearly down on the 2nd centile, which isn't fab. No health professionals are even remotely worried about his development though so I see no reason why I should be

splishsplosh · 24/02/2009 23:47

Carrie poor you and your ds today - dd2 was in hospital for a week with bronchiolitis, needing oxygen when she was 5 weeks old, so know how horrible and scary it is- hope he is better soon, though the cough can go on for a while

Here dd1 has woken up a few times tonight, crying and clutching her ear. I gave her some medicine which normally she loves, but she didn't want it- she says feels ok, but keeps crying/ moaning and groaning every now and again. Not sure if just laid on it funnily or something. She hasn't shown any signs of being ill today - unless being stroppy is a sign. Had to make a quick exit from Elc today as she wasn't able to play nicely. I'm feeling quite grumnpy myself at the moment,tired,worried/stressed about various things and feeling a bit "all needed out" if you know what I mean. I feel like I spend 24 hours a day on call for everyone, but don't have anyone there for me. Sorry if that sounds majorly self pitying.

P is out tonight. 1.5hours ago he said he'd be home in 40 mins. Just now he phoned asking if I'm OK - when I told him about dd and her ear, he just seemed supremely unconcerned and just said well if it's that bad she'll still be crying when he gets in.

now dd2 awake as dd1 crying out about picking up a balloon ~)hmm] and wokwn her.

glad p having nice old evening though.

Kagey · 25/02/2009 09:36

Carriebo sorry to hear about your DS yesterday; I cannot even imagine how horrid that must have been for you all. I am glad he is back home though and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Splishsplosh sorry to hear about your DD also and hope she is better this morning.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 09:53

Carrie sorry to hear about your DS, hopefully he'll be better soon

Splish hope your DD's better soon too... and sorry your P is being un helpful as usual...

we're in major decision world here, trying to figure out what's best with regards to going back to work (both of us, just me, just DP, find childminder for both DC, and we have 2 weeks to decide...) I have smoke coming out from my ears trying to find the perfect/best solution....

Jenbot · 25/02/2009 10:09

Carriebo how frightening! How is he doing today?
Re names - to try to reassure you a bit, I know two people who sometimes go by their first names and sometimes by their middle names, a friend and one of my staff. Neither seem to have any major identity issues, so perhaps it doesn't even have to be an either or situation?
My best friend had a lot of upheaval, got divorced and moved a long way, soon after her son was born and she changed his name by deed poll twice in that time, settling on the final one when he was 7 months old. He's now 6 and universally known by a completely different pet name!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 10:15

carriebo forgot to say, one of my friends is known by his middle name. Only found out his first name when s.one rang for him at work for something official (he's only known as firstname for official purposes), so if you're both ok with his middle name, just use that and you don't need to do anythign "official" unless you really want to.

Hopefully · 25/02/2009 10:38

Sorry to hear about the poorly children carriebo and splish. Hope they're better today.

Well we had a much better night last night. Don't know if it's because I did as starlight suggested and did a nappy change during his first feed (at 11:30, having gone to bed at 8:30), so he fed for a fair bit longer, or because his cold is (slowly) improving. I then put him down and we didn't hear from him till 2:30, when DP managed to resettle him, then he was up at 3:30 for another feed, settled reasonably quickly and we didn't hear from him again till 6:30. Luckily my mum's here, so she took him at 6:30 till he wanted a feed at 7:15, so I got a lie in!

Pacita · 25/02/2009 10:59

Carriebo thanks for writing all that advice re: feeding while in the midst of a baby scare! How is your LO doing today? It must have been bloody worrying, the whole thing.

Meglet · 25/02/2009 14:05

splish I really don't know how you manage to put up with your P, he must drive you round the bend.

I was MN-ing in peace just now but DD has woken up early so she is now rolling around on the rug in her gro-bag watching Sky news . Shes desperate to get moving, she can drag herself forwards slowly and flip over but she gets so ratty as she can't keep up with her big brother.

I have to go to hospital tomorrow to get my cervix sorted out, they may well cut out a chunk there and then . If anyone hears a loud yell around 11am that'll be me when they inject the local anaesthetic into my cervix! ouch. Got to get it out the way though.

DebiTheScot · 25/02/2009 14:32

hope the poorly children are getting better, its so exhausting looking after sick kids.

I decided to go to bed early last night at about 9.30, took a while to get to sleep and think I was just asleep when A woke at 10.15, dh took him downstairs to get him to go back to sleep but I just lay there waiting for him to give up and bring him up to be fed which he did after about 20mins. So I didn't get an early night. And I'm still shattered and have just properly shouted at ds1 for something which worth shouting about. He was tired too after pre-school this morning and now he's gone for his sleep miserable and I'm miserable and tired too. No point in having a nap as ds2 is likely to wake any minute now from his sleep.

imoscarsmum I hope you didn't think I was having a go at your sums yest, that wasn't the intention. I have to say I can see the appeal of ready made formula, if I was doing more than 1 bottle a day it would drive me mad having to use powder, it is messy and a faff. The 1 litre cartons are good too but obviously no use for just 1 feed a day.

DebiTheScot · 25/02/2009 14:34

and sending positive vibes for tomorrow meglet, sounds very yucky!

TooMuchTV · 25/02/2009 15:30

dreadful night here after a slight improvement - up at 11.30 2 and 4 and he took ages to settle each time (was up from 4 to 6.30 then fell asleep just before dd woke...)

Anyone giving up anything for lent? Dh thinks we should give up children - his idea was to send them to my parents for 40 days so we can catch up on some sleep...

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/02/2009 15:55

carriebo - lots of lung opening and expanding vibes being sent to your ds. I hope you're all getting over the shock of it.

Good luck for tomorrow meglet We'll all be tthinking of you and offering a virtual hand to hold.

I hope your day improved debithescot days like that are shit and hard to cope with sometimes.

M's sleep is still all over the place. We sucessfully reintroduced the dreamfeed last night. Infact M woke up before I managed to get to him. I have a nasty suspicion the 6month growth spurt is amongst us. Oh joy!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 25/02/2009 16:27

good luck for tomorrow Meglet!! toomuchtv I like that!! (the giving up thing)

Pacita · 25/02/2009 16:42

Meglet, good luck for tomorrow. Scream as loud as you need.

Hopefully · 25/02/2009 16:48

Ouch, hope it goes ok tomorrow Meglet.

lol at giving up children for lent!

T has been really good today - he still sounds like darth vader, but he's obviously feeling a bit better in himself.

becaroo · 25/02/2009 19:14

hopefully Toby has it too (well, has had it since he was 5 weeks old - dont get me started!)

carrie Hope your LO gets better soon x

I have a question re: water cups....Toby is 5 months old today - yay! - but seems to be ready to drop a milk feed (down to 4 per day instead of 5) and I know it says on the cup to give from 6 months but surely I could try him with it now?????? Thoughts????

Does anyone know anyone who wants to buy a good quality second hand urban detour double 3 wheel pushchair with r/cover, foot muff and pump in red? Or a single 3 wheel pushchair with rain cover, foot muff and change bag in khaki? My sis is finally getting rid of all her baby equipment (she had 9 buggies on the go at one time!!!!!!!!) and is only asking £50 for the double buggy aand £30 for the single!

Cheers!.........

Meglet · 25/02/2009 19:40

toomuchtv genius idea at giving up children for lent .

debi sorry you had a crap day, I hope it's ended ok. I've bellowed at DS a few times since DD has been born. I'm very tolerant until we're rushing to get somewhere then I get snappy.

TooMuchTV · 25/02/2009 20:41

becaroo ds is now just over 5 mths and was reaching out for dd's water cup today. I put some water in a spare one (a basic tommee tippee one with flip spout - under a pound in Tesco when we bought them), held it in front of him and he reached out and took it with both hands, manouvered the spout into his mouth and started sucking! He then got very upset when it slipped round out of his mouth. I don't think they need water at this stage particularly until they are taking a larger volume of solids but I don't think it would do any harm.

ds is teething badly - although the teeth haven't broken the surface his top gum has two massive bumps where I can see the shape of the top front teeth coming down - I wonder if chewing on the cup spout helped?

ninja · 25/02/2009 21:03

I don't want to totally give up kids for lent - just that tea-bed time when they're both grouchy, hungry and tired (and lets face it so am I!!)

I'll keep the morning smiles if I may?

carriebo Hope your LO gets better soon x

and good luck Meglet

M's giving up waking at night for lent, honest

Glad T's feeling better Hopefully

She woke at 11.20 (fed), 1.20 (fed), 2.20 (but no feed, rocked her to sleep in crib), 3.20 (fed), 4.20 tried not to feed but wouldn't get back to sleep despite me trying, so fed at 5.00 then slept 'til about 7 in the bed (I tooped and tailed with her and DH), then gream-fed until 8

I can't believe I'm writing an essay aboutmy night.

CarrieBo · 25/02/2009 21:03

Oh man I get stroppy and shout at dd waaaaay more since ds was born, poor thing, I know how you guys feel.
How was your test meglet? Hope it didn't hurt too much.
Well ds was even more wheezy and rattly chested today. Hospital said we could take him in without going via GP, but I decided not to because I felt confident that he was happy in himself, feeding well, and having lots of wet nappies so not dehydrated (and a nurse friend checked him out at home ). Until that is at 6pm when he choked and gagged on some mucus he'd coughed up and brought up milk all over me and the floor and the bouncy chair and my slippers. Bleugh.
But to cheer everyone up, dd has reliably informed me tonight that Jesus has new socks

Hopefully · 25/02/2009 22:53

Grrr. Think I might try to reintroduce the 10:30 feed. I don't think T has gone beyond 11pm a single time since I dropped it, so I'm just getting into a nice deep sleep, and he wakes and demands a feed. Somehow it's much more depressing than just staying up and feeding him.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/02/2009 08:06

We have sucessfully reintroduced the 10.30 dreamfeed. M is still up at 2.30 and 5 though, so I'm pretty convinced it's a growth spurt - drat.

I've also noticed M is very good at passing things from one hand to the other and back again.

Oh, and I'm very glad to hear that Jesus has got some new socks
