I knew it, chocO. It's cool you're a bus ride away from each other...

Just catching up the thread...

Daisy, good luck pumping. I swear my one talks, it says "Will it pump, will it pump" - over and over, drives me crazy, I haven't used it for a while. Don't forget to take it to hospital to relieve yourself from engorgement.

Ummmm...well had a busy day. Babes had jabs, they seem ok. Spent 130quid in Asda, and I refrained from buying scallops (Margot!) though I did pick them up, but just thought it was gonna be an expensive shop. Got friend coming over tomorrow and she is cooking me a Caribbean soup with loads of yum stuff and bringing her teenage son who ds1 adores, so should be a nice day.

Have a good weekend.

PS. For all you Desert Islanders click and drool

choc I bet the Killers were fab, am v of that one!

Daisy next thurs- yikes.. but yay if it makes everything better. DH has a photo of me hooked up to a milking machine at our kitchen table when I was expressing for DS. It's a bit depressing, but my goodness they work!

Sorry to hear about people losing their parents. It's very sad.

coolkat my inlaws are lovely. Sadly FIL has a form of dementia now- he has good days and bad days. He stays with us from time to time so that MIL can have a break. I wish she would let us have him more often, but she feels I am busy enough already.

Desert Island loks lovely, merry. LB glad you are getting to grips with things.

Immi is now in her 6-12 months outfits. She is quite round, but also long in the body, bless her.

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 09:08

Morning everyone

My little man has the cold so we were awake more than we were sleeping last night!
Do you give your LO's anything when they get the cold?

PinkyMinxy · 07/03/2009 10:18

Choc, sorry it was such abad night for you.

A bowl of water on the radiator can really help with bunged up noses.

I also use a bit of baby olbas oil, I put a bit on her sleeping bag and then give her a feed- I think the combintion of olbas oil, sucking and having a drink helps.

If she has a temperature I give immy a bit of calpol, but to be honest the cough syrups for babies don't do much.

The only one witha real decongestant used to be medised but I don't think you can get the 3 months+ one any more (some problem with people giving more paracetamol with it- ie not reading the label)

x

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 10:27

Thanks pinky, I have calpol in the house but didn't give it as he didn't gave temp. I was reading about medised & it is now for 2 years +
I took him in with me around 5am and he eventually settled at 6. Poor little thing is so tired & fighting sleep just now.
I will to to chemist later & try to get baby olbas oil.
Thanks again xx

MerryMarigold · 07/03/2009 11:08

Hey chocgal. Have become a bit of a cold expert since Judo has pretty much had a bad cold since birth, poor baby. Like snot stuck all over his face when he wakes up! And coming out of eyes, yuck.

  • Saline drops. Loosen the snot and help them suck it down. Give just before a feed, helps them to breathe during the feed
  • Few drops of Karvol or Olbas on a hankee tied to cot or cot mobile (read how many drops - Karvol is 6 and Olbas is only 2!!)
  • Hold upright to get them to sleep then lie down once they're asleep. I do this if Ds2 is really bad and seems to help. He's very good at sleeping usually, so I know if he can't sleep it is genuinely that he is soooo uncomfortable
  • Cotton buds to get 'snotballs' out!

Sorry, Daisy to ruin your expressing experience! But I had a Medela In Style, maybe your pump will say something else! Let us know...

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 11:16

hey merrym, thank you for sharing your tips. Will try all these things tonight!

coolkat · 07/03/2009 11:46

Thanks for them tips Merry, Becca is also truely snuffily, am starting to give saline drops again, she was prescribed some a few weeks ago.

I like you Choc never know whether to give calpol and only tend to give if she has a temperature.

Pinky wow 6-12 months! Becca just had big growth spurt we have just reached the 3-6 ones!! Me and DH commented one morning this week that it looked like someone had come in over night and pumped her up!!

Just taken DD1 horse riding, lunch, showers then party.

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 15:57

I know you're not meant to do it, but as the first bottle of medised I bought was when DD was six months and it was still licensed for 3months plus, we keep a bottle in the house and give it instead of calpol as a single dose before bed. It does help them get some sleep and in doing so gives them the strength to help shake the cold. I'll be giving it to bumble if he needs it as well now that he is over three months .

His ears are much better today. He's yelped a few times, but none of the constant screaming like we were getting yesterday.

I tried out the pump earlier and got quite a bit considering he'd not long fed. It's very gentle and very quiet, but takes an age. It wasn't saying much to me Merry.....maybe once I've listened to it for a week I'll have a different view

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 16:05

oops, we only give medised before bed when they have a cold obviously. I'm not regularly drugging my children, honest

Evening all

choco thanks for your comments about the DC'd...your little man is also totally gorgeous and I am still smiling at him and Tiger holding hands under the gym!

lacks am still soooo impressed by your resilience under pain, you are such a tropper, is it a day op or longer?

merry speaking of milking machines....DH and I always thinks our one says "Milk me now, Milk me now" also a Medala mini electric! How funny. Wonder what everyone else's says???

I'm also a fan of Olbas oil, and placing a bowl of water by the radiator to act as a humidifer works as well.

Have a lovely rest of weekend everyone!

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 19:23

lol at all these talking breastpumps

hey dozy . They want to keep me in overnight. On the NHS you get sent home the same day!! I'm secretly looking forward to the night off; does that make me a weirdo? I think I'm going to have enough milk expressed by then as well.

major success with bumble tonight. I put him down, awake, in his cot, got DS1 sorted and in bed, then tiptoed in to our room to put some joggy bums on, and he was fast asleep . seven o'clock on the button he went down...woohoo!

so all the kids in bed by 7....not bad really.

Evening all

LOL at your milking comment Merry - I used to think mine sounded like a train going "chugga chugga chugga chugga" - almost like I was waiting to get to my 4oz milk destination!

Chocgal the cold sounds yucky - the only time M had a bunged up nose I got some baby vaporub stuff and put it in a bowl of water next to his cot - must be similar to the olbas oil suggestions. I hope it gets better soon.

Pinky 6-12 months already - thats impressive! I have been as bad as Dozy buying a 2 year old tutu as TK Maxx has some great baby clothes so I already have some 18-24 month things.

I have had a lovely 2 days with DH and M - out for tapas last night where M slept in his pram without making a sound. Today we went for a walk by Virginia Water Lake which is beautiful then afternoon tea at a posh hotel nearby where M laid on the floor and gurgled happily while I stuffed my face with scones.

After stupidly saying how my little man was sleeping through most nights he has started waking again at 3-4am for a big feed - for the first time ever he wants both breasts and it takes up to 45 mins (compared to 20mins when he used to wake) and he is still taking a full feed at 7am. This started at 16 weeks exactly (on Monday) so I think (pray/hope!) its a growth spurt. How long do these usually last???

DH and I having fillet steak for dinner - was on offer in waitrose. We are complete foodies too and love Come Dine with Me. My menu would be Beef Carpaccio,
Lobster Spaghetti and Poached Pears. DH is really competitive and wants to do a Come Dine with Me with our friends with voting and everything (typical man!) - maybe we should do an MN one too!

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 19:36

I had plain baked chicken breast and salad for tea tonight.

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 19:43

hey all
Well done daisy on everyone being in bed by 7!
That is a very cute image of your DC holding hands dozy & choco!
Hopefully the night time feeding is only for a short time choco, must be a bit annoying when M has been sleeping through! I have yet to experience a sleep through & look forward to that day

Well my little man is asleep in his cot with a bowl of water & olbas oil beside the radiator so fingers crossed.

coolkat · 07/03/2009 19:48

Becca's also in bed with a bowl by her radiator!

Very impressive having all 3 in bed!

I am hungry and fancy some boiled egg! how strange

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 19:51

Fingers crossed for us tonight coolkat!!
Enjoy your boiled eggs!!!

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 19:52

choco...DD started waking up at this age after having been sleeping through from 9 weeks. It was a growth spurt and does pass, although I can't remember how long it went on for; it seems to me with babies that after a few days of one thing, you can't quite remeber what they did/how you coped before.

My little man is 18 weeks old today. He seems sooooo grown up. He's also started crying when I get up and leave the room, or if he thinks he is getting picked up and it doesn't happen!

juanitad · 07/03/2009 19:52

DH thinks my breast pump sounds like a Chemical Brothers song.......can't remember which one, will have to ask him!!

MonkeyMargot · 07/03/2009 20:06

Ha ha lol ChocO at your DH wanting to do a "Come Dine With Me". Some friends of mine did this in Brighton, and I am so tempted to do one here in west london - as have my Gaybours and other friends who are all foodies. Glad you had a lovely meal out with your DH and M! Lucky you!

ChocGal very of Killers gig - love them love them!!

So sad reading about those who have lost parents. Luckily I have both of mine, but DH's dad died 5 years ago, and our Giant Plum really resembles him a lot, and it makes us both so sad that she will never meet him. He was a saint - esp. as he put up with the evil MIL all those years!

Hana your hair sounds (and looks - as I have met you!) a lot like mine. I just had a fringe cut, and would recommend it for a nifty change of scene.

Lacks I haven't caught up on all the last few days chat, but see that you are booked into hospital - are you having more gallstones removed? Hope you are going to be OK and that you enjoy the break as you alluded to! Good luck pumping!
P.S. scrabble won't load for me tonight?!

MerryM wow your mammoth Asda shop - hope you got lots of lovely grub! I love food so much. It really makes me v.happy!

Lola so pleased you got your LO on the bottle!! GOod on your mum! I must start trying again this week.

LadyB sounds like you are coping, bless you. You are very strong. And you must make DH take the kids and spend time with them AWAY from you - for everyones sake - but most of all yours - you need a break!

ME - post.
I have been feeling very low the past week, but am much better today. Hence haven't posted for several days. I think it was just extreme knackeredness. Plum suddenly started not sleeping as well as before - e.g. random awakenings between 7-11pm, and then once she'd woken for night feed the first time (1,2 or 3am) she wouldn't settle and would be awake it seemed every hour or so til morning. I started being all weepy and weird. Also think I was doing too much - dinner parties etc etc. Trying to keep up appearances to all and sundry that I am a Supermum. When the reality is that most days I question everything I do.
But have turned corner today after better night's sleep. Don't think it's PND any longer.

Re. hairloss. Had my hair cut 2 weeks ago and Polish hairdresser informed me that the current good condition of my locks would abruptly stop at 4 months. Since then, one of my NCT chums hair has started dropping out at 4 months. It will be 4 months next week for me, neatly coinciding with my Bday, so hoping my hair stays intact..!

Love to all - hope you're having good weekends. I'm off to bed very soon..! x

chocolategal · 07/03/2009 20:18

Sorry you've been feeling down monkeym I went through a few days of that a couple weeks back & it was around the time E started waking more overnight too.
Glad you are feeling better now though. It's hard finding a balance of doing non "mumsy" things like going out and entertaining which make you feel good about yourself and still setting aside time for just resting and doing nothing iyswim.
The Killers were sooo good, best concert I've been to for a while and Mr Flowers was looking hot hot hot!!

MonkeyMargot · 07/03/2009 20:22

Thanks ChocGal. you are right about the balance thing. I've been trying to prove to myself and DH that we can still do adult stuff. But it takes it toll having late nights..!
Am soo jealous of your seeing the Killers. And yes, Monsieur Flowers is tres hot!!

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 20:32

monkey, I'm having my gallbladder removed. They can remove the stones, but it isn't easy and they will generally just come back again, so they just take the whole gallbladder away. It's a bit like the appendix in that we can live happily without it, but it's a bugger if it goes wrong.

I'm booking myself in for a couple of days RandR here later in the year though.
