barbs is he 16 weeks yet? If you think it's teething try a tiny bit of bongela on his gums of you have it in.

They do a teething gel suitable from 2 months, but regular bonjela works fine if they are around 16 weeks. Worth a go just this once.(I know we all prefer the natural Nelsons powders etc. but soentimes a compromise is needed!)

barbareebaa · 22/02/2009 15:13

hi pinky - he's only nearly 13 weeks. do you think teething? had a wee lull and is now back to screaming again! oh dear

PinkyMinxy · 22/02/2009 15:24

Hmm well. It's your call. I've given mine a tiny bit in an emergency before now.

I don't know. it's tricky because teething can be used as a reason for so many things. I was more thinking try the bongela and if it works then it may be teething, IYSWIM.

No temp etc. is good.

When babies 'find' their hands they tend to chew them, so it's hard to tell.

Have you tried carrying him outside for a little walk- sometimes going out into cooler air settles babies quite well.

barbareebaa · 22/02/2009 15:49

Thanks for the ideas Pinky yep - we got in about an hour or so ago - long walk to shops - scenic route! he screamed all round sainsburys he was asleep when we got back - left him in pram at bottom of stairs (coolish - not heated)then cat went out and banged catflap and it woke him up! gaaaah!

Anyway will go look to see if we have any bonjela in. Have had a feel and can't feel anything going on with gums. but willing to give anything a go at the mo!

Oblomov · 22/02/2009 15:53

Afternoon. Just bookmarking.

MerryMarigold · 22/02/2009 17:24

Daisy, are prawns and tuna ok? Can replace chicken with prawns in some recipes (esp the thai ones, yummy)...

I love fish. A cheap, tasty recipe I made up is: smoked mackerel or kippers, brocolli, sweetcorn, carrot, peas, red pepper (whatever veg you want) bit of turmeric or saffron and any other spices you like (cayenne pepper, black pepper), boiled rice. Mix it all up! (It's nice fried together but not necesary if frying is not good).

Haven't been able to catch up with everything...

londonboots, there are some ways I don't want to be like parents in terms of parenting although they were (and are still!) basically good parents. Also I have boys and my Mum only had girls. I'm not aware of it all day long, but have thought about the biggest things. Main things are: to make eldest sibling feel loved, to give a lot of specific verbal praise and encouragement (eg. that was very considerate) and for my dh to be a lot more involved in my kids lives than my dad was.

If you don't have one near you, you can always come and join me for a film at the Epsom one? . Call me if you need help finding the screening on their website as its not always easy.

HELLO EVERYONE, REMEMBER ME?????

I finally have time to pop on the computer. I MISS MM!!!! HOw is everyone????

xxxxxx

LoveaDAISYcal · 22/02/2009 20:13

Hi Pinkali; of course we remember you.

How is your darling little girl? and how are you? thankfully staying out of the office by your lack of posts.......you really need to get a laptop

MonkeyMargot · 22/02/2009 21:04

Ahh - hello pinkali - how are you doing? How is the gorgeous E?

londonboots I had to buy an industrial strength sports bra a few weeks ago to contain my (now) hefty norks! Had a lovely run though. Wish I could get out more often.

Re. cleaners - I've always managed without, but I am definitely getting one when I return to work in July. Life is just too short and I will not feel guilty. I'm hoping I'm really going to feel the benefit, having resisted thus far!

Dinner party last night a great success - no lowfat recipes for lacks I'm afraid! 70's theme - prawn cocktail, chicken and mushroom pie and then banoffee pie - yum yum!!

The giant plum went down at 7pm and not a peep, despite the loud chatter going on downstairs. hooray - I can have a social life! (but only at home!)

Hope everyone else well?
xxx

Ceebee74 · 22/02/2009 21:14

Evening all

Pinkali lovely to hear from you and, although we miss you, it is great that you are staying out of the office

Monkey good news about the dinner party - sounds yummy And well done to CP for being such an angel so you can enjoy yourself!

Barbs I have a complete grump on my hands aswell - he also keeps suddenly shrieking in pain from out of nowhere (and even when DS1 is nowhere near him so we can't blame him ) and he is dribbling so so much....seems to have all the symptoms of teething but I keep telling myself it is too early

Hi to everyone else!

DS1 decided today that he wasn't going to wear a nappy - I was so unprepared for potty training today as I was knackered, DH was going out for the afternoon, DS1 was in a very mischievous mood all day and Sam was being a grumpy so-and-so ...all in all not the best day to start! Anyway, DS1 had no 'wee' accidents - all in the potty but did do a huge poo in his underpants - was gross to clean up! Has really put me off trying again tomorrow - surely if he can't tell me he needs to do a poo he isn't ready??

chocolategal · 22/02/2009 21:29

Evening all

Hi pinkali nice to see you!

Can I add my LO to the list that is grumpy, crying and drooling! I take it this can go on for weeks before teeth appear??

Also E is fussing over daytime feeds, rarely finishing bottles which means he's up more overnight! I am really trying not to get too hung up on this sleeping through thing but it's hard!

monkey that tea sounds very tasty, I'd have 70s night more often!

Hope everyone has had good weekends

AFingerofFudge · 22/02/2009 21:43

Dozy I think you asked about irrational fears - my two are also the choking one. DS1 who is 9 gets really cross when I chop up his grapes into small bits for his lunchbox for school. I think he must be getting to the age of me being really embarrasing!
I also have this fear sometimes when I am carrying M in my arms or in the sling that I am going to trip over. I go sooo carefully down our stairs.

Have done the deed. Phoned a lady I know slightly who cleans for a number of neighbours. My next door neighbour highly recommended her and so I gave her a ring. She is coming round tomorrow morning for me to meet her so it really is happening. DH has sort of reluctantly gone along with the idea, he can tell I'm stressed out about it, and like I've said, in some ways I'm not keen myself. Will have to tighten belt in other areas in order to pay her. Cut down on visits to Costa etc....

Talking of tightening belts (ahem) I need to lose two stone to get back to pre-pregnancy weight . Do I remember rightly that someone on this thread started a sort of "diet club" thread. Desperately need to get motiviated to cut out all the rubbish food. Can anyone point me to the thread if there is such a one.

Righto, must go and stuffmyfacewithchocolate oh I mean chomp on a couple of lettuce leaves

chocolategal · 22/02/2009 21:51

Ahh, knew there was something else! Thank you fudge for reminding me!
I have an overall fear of everything regarding my DS! Am looking into going on a childrens 1st aid course, has anyone else been on one?
My DH thinks because I'm a nurse if anything happened (god forbid) I would know what to do but I think I would go into a panic.

Okay think that's it this time!

barbareebaa · 22/02/2009 22:02

OOh - agree with chocolategal and irrational fears. Everythings so scary, am worried i will drop/ fall over on ds and a million other things as the day passes like today I walked passed a mean looking muscley dog with W in the pram and I thought what would I do if it attacked W!!!

There's a first aid course run at hv centre nearish me which I should try to get along to - have worries about choking also.

Hi Pinkali

Sorry to hear there are other grumpy babies..

Am tres about those who are getting cleaners. What a fab idea!! Could never afford one tho' so will have to live in this tip for a bit longer

LoveaDAISYcal · 22/02/2009 22:20

I did a baby first aid course last summer; it was very useful and I feel much more confident now when the DCs are poorly, although it showed me that I had done the Wrong Thing when DD was really poorly and ended up in hospital last May (it was re recovery position and vomiting and not choking though).

Re choking, it's the one thing that most parents fear, but iirc real choking incidents are pretty rare. Babies have a fantastic gag reflex and usually manage to clear any blockages themselves.

bumble is also chewing and girning and drooling (as well as having mad feeding frenzies but that's a whol other issue). DD started around this time too, but didn't get teeth until about 23 weeks. It wasn't constant though; came and went as the teeth moved up through her gums. Nelsons teetha should be given out in Bounty packs imo

vbab78 · 22/02/2009 22:58

misdee - You have a beautiful girly.
barbs - Have you seen anyone at hospital regarding W ezcema. If not I would definitely recommend you ask your doctor for a referral as I did for Alyssa. Both my DS and A both have ezcema. DS ezcema at now nearly 3 is just at a point where for the majority it is managable but he does have flare ups when ill, teething or even emotional (was told about this by his nurse that he may flare up when baby arrives due to the emotional changes and upset and it happened). I recently took A (nearly 15wks) to hospital for the 1st time because she was so uncomfortable and the skin was bleeding and getting infected . She has been diagnosed as ezcema on her face but something else (cant remember - bad mummy) on ALL her body. At night it got worse probably due to the skin drying out and getting too hot. She has been a lot better since I got the PROPER creams and advice. Another benefit is that she gets the correct creams and NO COST due to being prescribed. DONT KNOW IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUS EZCEMA EXPERIENCE but i've found ezcema to be a horrible, nasty, painful thing. Its a roller coaster and needed constant changes in creams and trying to apply them to DS at times with him crying or hating me because he doesnt want them. BUT ON A GOOD NOTE as it shows with DS it DOES get better.
SORRY WENT ON A BIT ITS JUST BEEN A BIG PART OF MY LIFE WITH DS AND NOW WITH A.
dozy - I am/have been paranoid about cot death with both DS and A. But isnt it one of those things that no one is really sure what causes it? SORRY IF VERY UNKNOWLEDGABLE. I just do common sense stuff like put A at bottom of bed and NO SHEETS ON HER HEAD and not too hot!
ceebee - Sorry about DS poo incident. I cant really advise as I've been trying to train DS (now 2yr8m) since being about 2 with emphasis on TRYING. I know I am doing something wrong but dont know what. Sometimes I think he honestly doesnt care if he wees or poos in his pants as he will carry on playing or watching the TV or even go off to a corner and do it on the sly. BUT trying to think as long as hes ok for starting half days at school in SEPT it will be ok.
ceebee meet up - Saw the bit about meet up at monkey play thing near meadowhall. But have missed who is coming and when it will be?
RUTH - you still out there? Long time no talk.

PinkyMinxy · 22/02/2009 23:06

Hana thank you . I started a thread today because I was in a bit of a mess, but I am finding it pretty much impossible to know where to start talking about things. I have a feeling that I have buried quite a lot.

re-teething absolutely with you on the nelsons teetha. I used to always have some in my handbag- I'm going to have to get into that habit again, I think.

DD1 has just fallen out of bed, bless her. SHe has cut her lip. I hate it when my dc get hurt, but she was very brave about it and has gone back to sleep. You can't wrap them in cotton wool..but I've put a ton of cushions around her bed

PinkyMinxy · 22/02/2009 23:07

And yay for meeting up at meadowhall!

Oblomov · 23/02/2009 07:48

Vbab, I totally understand the trauma of dealing with a child with a medical condition. And re this I am refering to ME !!
When I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of one, it was my mum who had to do everything TO ME. And one of my first ever sentences was "no more jections mummy, no more jections".
My poor poor mum. She tells me now, that she used to go away and weep at having to do my injections to me.
But we are very close. And I just feel sorry that she had to do it.
And we were talking about role models the other day. My mum is such a fab mum. She gave so much thought to her parenting. If I was a 1/10 th of her, I will have done a good job.

vbab78 · 23/02/2009 08:07

meet up - it's centertainment isnt it? or have i misread is it meadowhall?

Oblomov · 23/02/2009 08:18

I have no irrational fears. Not keen on gagging, but not a fear. Just dislike it. Not fearful of choking.
M can blow raspberries. Dh has been teaching him for ages, as he did with ds1. For a tongue tied baby, this is very good news.
Also, did I tell you, that a few weeks ago, M's tummy button, which had popped out with all the crying and umbilical hernia, and you ALL KNOW how much I hate popped out tummy buttons, from our AN thread, anyway, it has now popped back IN. So I am very very pleased.
