Happy Birthday cavey! I am 37 in May so you are bit a spring chicken as far as I'm concerned

Hmmm 37 ...... bit close to 40 that isn't it... la la la

sambo Hard to advise re the argument with dp. Might it be worth talking to a sleep specialist or a supernanny type? I know people who have and it has worked. At least then you could demonstrate that you do understand how desperate he is feeling. I also know that sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to these things but might be worth a go anyway.

dizzy Hope dd2 went to sleep eventually. Do you need wine/nailgun/gaffer tape this evening or is all ok?

petitfilowersandchocolates · 15/02/2009 19:36

sambo You can't do much . Put head end of the cot up on some books to let the mucus have chance to drain down if he's got a cold. There aren't any cough medicines for under 1s though (I don't think). I just use Karvol in Toby's room..... and .... you will just need to bf more unfortunately (have been going through this with Toby for the last two weeks as has had horrid cold and cough) or give cool boiled water.

VintageChampagneAndGardenias · 15/02/2009 19:55

Hi all happy birthday CC! Hope you are having a looovely time au pub. ps I am 37 in April.

Sambo someone suggested to me warm apple juice instead of cough mixture when ds was very coughy recently - I can't say I followed their advice and if you are about the weaning anyway then you won't want to, but I think pf is right that there isn't really a cough mixture for tinies. Though Calpol is soooo syrupy I would imagine it has whatever throat-coating properties warm apple juice has. Yes a LOT of bf, you know how thirsty you get yourself when you have a cold.

I would say as well we left the cough and though robustly oh it's only a cough don't all children get them etc etc and when we finally did go to the gp she said his little lungs didn't sound too well & he had a chest infection - not to be scarifying, just to say worth going to doc if no improvement. I also think we had been too casual about ds being kept warm, I don't feel the cold much myself and always forget to put heating on etc so have to remind self to put extra layer on ds.

sambo nothing I can add re. stress with DP other than to suggest a possible compromise - if he is intent on doing things that you are not happy with in the hope of improving DS's sleep, maybe you could both agree a time limit for seeing improvement, e.g. we will try X for Y amount of time and see what happens; if nothing happens, we will try (mutually agreed) Z. Being scientific might help him get on board with some of your ideas.

Best of British anyway

Having trouble uploading a picture of my Valentine's card to profile so you can view it here (I think).

hotterpotter · 15/02/2009 20:38

Evening all

Nice card Cyteen! Sambo sorry I have nothing further to add apart from my love and empathy. My DS still a rubbish sleeper and we have been giving him food and a bottle of formula at bedtime. He is up at least 3 times a night and if it isn't him it's DD (who had a screaming tantrum at 6am today, the neighbours must love us )

Have to say that I am rather embarrassed re weaning. DS really wasn't interested at all in anything but had a lightbulb moment last night. You know how they say give some milk then food as if they're too hungry it might upset them? Well it turns out DS can drink a lot faster than I thought so I have been offering him food on a full tummy . Tried with less milk today, he has scoffed apple, satsuma, rusk and pizza crust, hurrah!

Sibh and Albs I hope your little ones christenings have been lovely

CC hope you've had a brilliant birthday. All you 70's girls don't know when you're well off as I was born in 1969 and will be 40 in less than two months. Noooooooooo

petitfilowersandchocolates · 15/02/2009 20:41

vg I am the fdg - thanks! Just call me prof pf - dh does

petitfilowersandchocolates · 15/02/2009 20:46

hotterpotter Well done on the lightbulb! I've always separated milk entirely from food- can't be doing with boob out food boob out again whatever - atm Toby just having some food at around 5pm which is in between feeds. I've no idea whether he's getting too much food/too much milk etc but seeing as both ds1 and dd have turned out ok I'm much more relaxed this time

hotterpotter · 15/02/2009 20:56

Honestly, it's less than 3 years since I weaned DD, you think I would remember . Still, am taking great comfort from the "food is for fun before they're one" which I had not heard then, and taking it at DS' speed

Sweet dreams VG and hope you get a good pot-luck book

dizzydixies · 15/02/2009 21:37

night VG I do hope tonight is the night that E turns the corner and sleeps through for you

sibh and ALBS fingers crossed all went well and you're sitting with your feet up drinking last of the bubbly congratulating yourself on what a wonderful days its been

cyteen brill card, we love sitting at the front of the upstairs of the bus

pf she eventually went over and they both slept until after 8am this morning. took them to gymnastics and DD2 was shattered but then we went to visit friends and I kept her going all afternoon so she was asleep within seconds tonight - although I surprised you ALL didn't hear the battle of the hairwash

DD2 hates having her hair done, absolutely HATES it so I've decided in my wisdom to wash it more often so she gets used to it

someone with a toddler please tell me that its a reasonable suggestion as I'm not too sure now

Dh away to late shift, rather pleased with the Ireland result so I'm sitting ignoring the chaos that is our house and watching Lark Rise before bed

rock n roll in Fife you know

no TS or Sazz today? seems very quiet without them

sambo303triesforScotland · 15/02/2009 22:57

thanks for your advice on the cough ladies, I am preparing myself for a long night ahead. We decided on bf for the late night feed rather than formula - for medicinal purposes (dp's idea )

cyteen lovely card, v cute

hope todays christenings went well

vg good luck on the book choice, there's nothing like the disappointment of realising you've wasted precious reading hours on a load of old tosh when there are soooo many worthy books out there

hotpot glad weaning has turned a corner. Heard the other day that 70 is the new 50 thus you will be 20 in 2 months

have been unable to watch one minute of rugby this weekend, my parents were v disappointed with Scotland's performance on Saturday, glad I missed it

dizzy I wondered what all that yelling was earlier

dizzydixies · 15/02/2009 23:16

sambo it was slightly more impressive than the last match but still not something to write home about

hope you have a good night

TwilightSurfer · 16/02/2009 00:46

i like that warm apple juice cough remedy idea....will log that in my data bank. let's hope i remember where i filed it. lol

dizzy my dd1 hates having her hair done SOOOO i've typically kept it cut short to save the fuss. only recently has it been allowed to get long again but i'm really thinking it will end up short again come summer.

weaning going crap over here. note the STUPID label on my forehead. today i am blaming it on the kitchen remodel. so in my eyes you are all doing a SUPER JOB.

vg i am very of the new tooth discovery. reese has had a few crazy moments this weekend that i am hoping mean at least one of the two i can see in her mouth break through soon. if she gets hold of a hard toy and gums it for a second she starts screaming bloody murder and begins attacking the toy like she's a mad dog. it's really funny but sad too.

off to bed early. countertop folk scheduled for 8:30am. that's when we usually leave for school.....might be missing school tomorrow. oh well.

night

Morning all.

Hope the christenings went well. No1 glad to hear things looking a little better with Marcus.

Steaky sorry to hear about your Gran. We're coming back in April to see mine in case it is her last/only chance to meet DS.

Weaning going a little better but I tried to give him sweet potato with cinnamon and think it might have been a bit spicy as his nose and top of his head went bright read - he seemed to quite like it though but I might give it a break for a while or mix with some milk.

A better night last night he slept till 5.30am from 7pm. My brother and his fiancee arrived on Saturday and she has asked me to be bridesmaid which I am very excited about but must start on diet now as they plan on getting married next easter so another trip back to the UK as well and thinking after that maybe it will be time to think about baby no.2?!! Can't believe I just wrote that...

awww Sazzles you poor thing you must be exhausted! babies awake at night + visitors =

Hopefully you can get referred to a dermatologist soon for your dd1. I tend to think most things like this are diet related but its painstaking finding out what causes them.

ts I am very of this kitchen remodel you are undergoing. It's the one room we have decided to leave in our house as we want to knock through the wall to the utility room and make the kitchen bigger, currently there's no room to swing a cat in there let alone cook! Hope you have some before and after pics

dizzy I think I also used to hate getting my hair washed/brushed/cut. Nothing my mum could have done would have made it bearable. However, what Sazzles suggests might work especially if dd2 is a daddy's girl -that would make it a bit special if dad did the rinsing.

We co slept last night, ds fed at midnight then about 3ish then was up at 6.30am but I was awake most of the night trying to make sure he was not too hot/too cold/could not fall off the bed/dp was not squashing him. I put his dummy in a couple of times too as this seems to help him pass wind (which wakes him frequently). So all in all, another very tiring night. I think we'll be moving ds into his own room in 3 weeks, I"m sure this will help

Morning all!
Not a great deal to report here. Went to MIL's for dinner last night. She is lovely in most ways but bless her she is NOT a great cook But she is a lovely lady so not going to complain. Had a decent night here. Suppose to be going to bf group but don't think I can really be bothered.

CC glad you had a good bday.
Can't remember who else I was going to reply to.
