Dizzy FIL was adopted at birth and his adoptive parents are now dead. I tracked down his birth mother, half bro and sis just before Xmas and with FIL's permission got in contact. BirthM now knows but hasn't given much away so far, new Uncle is lovely and DH & I are mediating between them as FIL is rubbish at computers and well, chatting really! I've since come to discover this is not how one should go about seeking a reunion and he could really use some counselling on the matter but local authority is v slow to respond. Have realised, esp reading this book, that it has really affected his whole self-image and I can see he is completely adrift. Not to mention I'm pretty convinced he has an autistic spectrum disorder hence not being v good at helping himself full stop.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 21:53

buckets that is so but also great that you are able/trying to help. It must be really difficult for him.

dizzyTHETARTANARMYdixies · 07/02/2009 21:55

he's very lucky to have you to do all that for him. I wouldn't know where to begin When I went to see my birth certificate I was offered counselling but I never took them up on it at the time and I've certainly god no recommendations for you book wise, sorry. Can link the websites for you if you like but they're mainly Scottish and may not help sorry

Hello everyone,

Moisturisers. Well, it's a subject that I am veeeery fussy about as I get eczema on my hands and react to a whole load of moisturisers so, here goes with some recommendations:

Did someone recommend Bach Rescue cream? It certainly has calendula in it, and I don't react to it, so use it quite a bit, and really like it. Rubs in well. you can get it from Boots or waitrose.

I also like aqueous cream, diprobase and 50:50 (I think that this is what it is called) which are all pretty basic, with no perfume etc. Aqueous cream rubs in well, diprobase is a bit thicker and 50:50 is basically solid, and really greasy, but if you can bear to have it on your skin I find it works quite well. You can get them from boots.

I also like Waitrose Baby Bottom Butter, which is fairly greasy, but rubs in quite well. Am clearly influenced by Mumsnet here.

I avoid anything with lanolin in it as woolly trousers make me itch ... not sure if it is the lanolin but if certain moisturisers don't seem to work check the ingredients and see if there is anything in it that might cause irritation. E45 has lanolin in so I don't use it, although I know that lots of other people find that it works really well.

When I was pregnant everyone here kept on telling me that I had to put cream on my tummy or I would get stretch marks, which on reflection is a funny thing to feel culturally pressurised by. Well, my MIL gave me some cream, I used it and come out in a big rash and got investigated for obstetric cholestasis.

And if all else fails I use a strong steroid cream on my hands, which works a treat, but is obviously only a short term treatment.

PS go the pumas ... although I suspect that they are unfortunately not in the 6 nations this year. Must go and do some jobs. Thoughts to all where needed.

Ooh Dizzy, one day when you're feeling particularly strong and have time to weep a lot, have a read of this Primal Wound one. In fact if you like you can have my annotated copy when I've finished 'reprogramming' FIL. I think he's spent his whole life feeling that he ought to be grateful to his APs - cue much repression and low self worth. Lots of issues with his emotional 'abandoned baby self' influencing the rational grown up self to some quite bizarre conclusions.

dizzyTHETARTANARMYdixies · 07/02/2009 22:07

sounds about right

TwilightSurferGoIreland · 07/02/2009 22:12

Miamla the facialist told me to gently exfoliate for a few days after because what she did makes the bad rise to the top for discharge. That sounds bad but I can't come up with better words. Anyway, I gently exfoliated and used a clay mask daily for a week following mine and my face looked GREAT with only the occasional problem. Now everything seems to be balanced but I want to go again, and again, and again. I like that whole facial thing. I was a virgin too.

No1 I'm worried for you. Why isn't he wetting??

Buckets my PMS problems include about half the list. I can't wait to have my hormone levels tested. Right now that's scheduled for April but I think I'm going to call Monday and see if they'll do this month. I've had 4 regular cycles since the birth....(but i think doc wants me to have 6 under my belt for better results).

I WON!! Wait....MY TEAM WON!!! Sorry I missed it but I was tied up at Target. The photo lab there lost my photos blah blah blah blah...had to open up a can of whup-ass....photo dude just called and they will be ready in a few moments. Any sorry I missed the game. Can't wait till next Sunday!!!

Guess what my DH did today??? He went to a MEET-UP! He's a member of the local Dodge Charger forum online. They have a thread and chat about their cars all the time JUST LIKE WE CHAT ABOUT EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. Anyway, he went and met 5 other thread members today up in Cleveland. When he got home I asked him if now it seem strange to have my threadfriend meet us at the beach. He replied, No Not Really. And smiled. The INTERNET FORCES are Strong!!! Once sucked in you can never turn back. BrewHaHA.

okay that was silly

Sazzles what the stuff you using on DD1? Might it work on diaper rash?? I can't seem to rid Reese of hers since that bad poo a week ago. I changed today and started using the excema cream...maybe that will work.

Played outside today ladies. 20C!!! DD1, Reese and I walked down to the lake and toss rocks in. We strolled the neighborhood. DD1 rode her bike. Reese hung out in my Moby and wore her sunglasses. She was too cool.

TwilightSurferGoIreland · 07/02/2009 22:15

Longway I bet Aquaphor is like your Aqueous. That and Eucerin Creme have been the only things to work on Reese's excema.

TwilightSurferGoIreland · 07/02/2009 22:16

ECZEMA why can't i spell that word!!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 22:19

ts lol at your dh having a meet up. That is great. At least now he can understand

Sounds like you had a lovely day, I bet Reece looked cool in her sunglasses. bless her.
Not sure why Marcus not wetting. He seemed okn ish today.
he woke up yesterday, and is in cloth so they are very very wet and heavy by morning.
He had it on from 7-8 ish and there was one very small wet bit just at the front.
He also had fed nearly every hour from 3.
Not sure what is going on. Stepmum said he looked very pale today.
Still has very bad cough and wheezy sound too.
I just feel sorry for him. He has gone 7/8 hours without a feed, which would explain dry nappies, but the long stretch is from 8am.
He feeds a lot at night.(prob to make up for earlier)

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 22:20

That prob made no sense whatsoever. sorry.

TwilightSurferGoIreland · 07/02/2009 22:21

One more thing....

maybe

I got an IDEA today and went out and purchased a journal. In this journal DD1 and I have started a RULES list. No it's in PRINT and can be referred back to so FORGETTING or NOT UNDERSTANDING is a thing of the past. DH was like, BRILLIANT!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 22:22

Quick claim to today's FPG throne before midnight turns me into a pumpkin - just got Kurt to wee in the bathroom basin on cue! Yay!!!! Thought I'd give it a go before I put a clean nightnappy on him, said Psssswswswswswsss and he did it. Luckily nobody ever fills the basin to wash with.
Nernight.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 22:44

sazzles I also though it was going to be better tbh.

Most of the children are family. Sister has 3, brother has 3. I have 2 younger brothers and 1 younger sister. So not much room for many more. lol

Am going to see how Marcus gets on and check nappy in am etc...wasnt worried about lack of weightgain before as he was bright and well, but now seems bright but not well iykwim. I am prob just being neuortic mum

Off to bed get things done.
Trifle now half done, will finsih off tomorow.
Funny how trifle is my favourite thing and I have made my first one tonight.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 07/02/2009 22:45

wow Kurt. That is fantastic.
BTW am I cruel to keep ds in a nappy all night. I did try to change once late on but it upset him, so have not bothered since.
