Morning,

ITS SNOWING!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!! I've been really jealous of all the snow everyone else seems to have had this week. So maybe it is our turn.

We had an ok night here. DS2 would not go to sleep, he finally dropped of at half 1 and then DS2 woke him up at half 5. Then the dog wanted to go out when DH when to get both boys bottles so he had to stand around in the cold. Bless!

Jam DD woke at 3 last night and didn't go back to sleep till 5 either, bloody toddlers!!

Thankfully DS wasn't too bad but it did mean I was awake for about 4 hours what with feeding DS and then DDbeing a complete sod

cat hope you managed to sort T out and get some sleep. Its awful when they are overtired. DS was similar a few nights ago. I was amazed how he couldn't just fall asleep given how tired he was.

No screaming addabs here but we forgot to turn the heating on last night so J kept waking up about 45 mind after his feeds. It took me til about 5 am to realize it as so cold and that as why he was insettled poor man. Ds1 had come in through the night sometime most likely because he was cold so three of us in the bed together were quite warm but ds2 in his hammock was probably a bit nippy.

Hooray for your snow Kayz, it's sunny here so think ours will melt today.

I am feeding ds2 and have just noticed he has a 2cm scratch down his face near his ear. I just cut his nails recently so I must have done it.

Just reread a post of mine from lastnight and realized this pre emptive text on this itouch has made it all come out a bit strange. I hope you can understand it.

We booked our hotel for London. Dh has a priority card thing for IChotels for his work accomodation so we were going to book into the holiday inn at kingscross but they only have dbl bed rooms left so we have gotten into a holiday inn express near old street which we are quite excited about now as it is right near all our old ore child haunts, not that we will be going out to any of them. Not sure what the dragon bar staff would think of we let ds1 loose in there. But it is nice to be in the vicinity. Also it is close to the Britannia pool where I used to take ds1 to swim so might see if I can take the boys there. It has a graduated part like at the beach so I could let ds2 splash around there while ds2 has a swim.

Veggiemummy · 07/02/2009 10:25

Oh Cat I hope you don't flake out and have a fun night. Your friends will be so happy to see you and you deserve a night out.

hope all is well, B xxx

kayzr · 07/02/2009 16:10

Hello!!

Bisou, I was wondering about you yesterday!! Hope you are well.

We popped out earlier, very nice and sunny but on the way home it turned into a blizzard, we couldn't see a thing, very very windy and we thought a tree was going to fall over as it was really bending. I was quite scared.

Sorry for those of you (esp cat) going through trying times at the moment. I think baby over-tiredness is the worst thing to deal with as it just gets worse and worse and prevents them sleeping which is the one thing they need. My DD1 was a nightmare that way but did grow out of it eventually. It's really upsetting and frustrating at the time though.

Now probably isn't a great time to mention that DD2 did (whispers) six and a half hours in a row last night...

runs off before anyone can throw things

zoejeanne · 07/02/2009 17:49

Trace I have those bras too, and I?ve ordered a couple of the vests too, they?re fab! I get them from my local BF charity and they are so much cheaper than if you bought them online from the bravado site ? I guess you got a discount through the NCT, so double bonus!

Cat I hope you got some respite last night? I took DD to baby massage last week and they taught me a couple of ?moves? that ease trapped wind ? they work as DD promptly farted really loudly . I?ll try to explain them, as they may help ease T?s pain ? hope I get this right. The first was to draw a circle (clockwise) on his tummy, round the belly button, with one hand following the other, round and round. Apparently this follows the direction of the intestines, so pushes any trapped wind through them. Use 2 or 3 finger tips for this one. The second one was to use a flat hand (horizontally) to stroke down from the bottom ribs over the stomach and again follow hand after hand. For both, use gentle nurturing strokes. If you want to use an oil then anything cold pressed and non nut based is fine. I really hope this helps and at the very least relaxes him (and you).

Hi bisou, how is it, back at work?

This week DD has had a growth spurt (thankfully finished now) and I also had a cold. I?ve been also trying to express daily, but on Tuesday I think the growth spurt and cold conspired against me and I only expressed a tiny bit. So I had a couple of days off, to make sure DD got all my milk straight from me. I started expressing again yesterday, as both seemed to have passed, but I can still only get out about half as much as I used to. Does anyone know if this is normal? And if so, how soon should my milk be back to normal? At the moment I?m not getting enough for DD?s nighttime bottle, so I?m having to finish off after DH gives her the bottle, which kind of defeats the object.

Any way, must get ready to go out tonight for the first time ? I?m excited and apprehensive in equal measure. My sis is babysitting, but scared me last night by offering to drive and pick us up afterwards as ?it?ll only take a couple of minutes so DD will be fine? Is it wise to go out and leave her? (her being both DD and my sis!!) Fortunately my sis did see the problem in that statement herself, but still, I?m scared.

Lal happy birthday (can?t remember if its today or tomorrow), I hope your DH came up with something good for you and you had a good day.

artichokes · 07/02/2009 19:02

Wow, we have two people enjoying their first nights' of freedom. I hope you both enjoy yourselves Zoe and Cat.

I am and to say I missed Blean Expectations. It sounds great. Are there recordings on the web WG?

Bisou, lovely to hear from you, albeit briefly. I cannot beleive you are back at towkr already. You really are superwoman, everytime you post I become more convinced of this.

Lal any sign of those bears yet? We may have found them. After DD1's night with the fox in the cot I asked her whether she thought there were any bears around too, she replied "Of course, they are in DD2's cot" .

DH took charge of both DDs this afternoon while I went to the gym and the shops. DD2 (reluctantly) took a bottle of ebm while I was out . When I got back I realised I had not got my door key so I went up to the living room window to motion to DH. Through the window I could see DD2 lying in her gym and DD1 dancing around and DH singing a song for her and they all looked so lovely. It was strange seeing my little family from the outside like that. I can't really explain what I am trying to say but I just looked at them and felt so proud and amazed that I had made those two little people.

Veggiemummy · 07/02/2009 19:04

zJ go out and have a lovely evening. Your sis was probably just trying to be helpful and make sure you had a good night I'm sure as soon as she said it she realized how not a good idea it was. You would be apprehensive regardless. As I didn't have any family over here to babysit ds1 and I was too nervous to trust him to just anyone dh and I didn't go out together until he was about 16 months old. Sad I know. So well done to you to going out and your six and DD will be fine.

Veggiemummy · 07/02/2009 19:15

Oh Arti you have just made me cry that is so lovely, I can hardly see what I'm writing.

Right now wiped away tears so can type again.

Kmp I finally did the check and send today for ds2s passport so it should get back in time for the Munich trip. Has anyone ever been there, do you know anywhere good to take kids? On Monday I will send off the papers for the citizenship by decent, poor J is the only member of our family who is not yet an Australian!!!!!

Ds1 has a friend over at the moment they are having a 'sleep over' which is currently their fav thing. I can hear DH in their trying to settle them off to bed it sounds like they are all having fun.

Oh and I think we may know where the bears are. Dh took ds1 to the pool today and before they left for the local leisure centre ds1 was telling me that there is a big bear at the pool with no legs, I looked at dh who shrugged and knew nothing of this poor legless creature but it seems you can rest assured that it will do no harm. I wonder do disabled bears get cheap entry to the pool?

traceface · 07/02/2009 19:36

Hello!
I'm feeling all smug because DH has gone to Twickenham with a pal today to watch the rugby so has been gone all day and will be back really late...and in his absence I have not cried or got stressed and I'm now sitting here MNing with both dds tucked up in bed! Actually dd2 seems to be getting a cold - she's really snuffly and is coughing and sneezing, and has slept loads today which made life much easier! She kept falling asleep so I had chance to make shepherds pie and bananas and custard with dd1 - also proud of myself for eating real food - when DH is out I usually resort to beans on toast!
Poor little Phoebe though - I can hear her on the monitor now and she sounds like a little pig, snorting away . Am bracing myself for a night of it but am trying to adopt Indith's attitude and enjoy the precious snuggles.

hope you have fab nights zj and supercat (I've renamed Cat!)

veggie - hope ds enjoys his sleepover!

verso - very pleased for you and your clever dd! Hope you get the same again tonight

well I spoke too soon - my piglet is now crying...bye xxx

Veggiemummy · 07/02/2009 19:42

Well done, I think achieving anytime of caring for LOs sans dhs is worth being proud of, but doesn't it make you wonder how single parents do it!

Also I agree with Supercat as a perfect name for Cat and will adopt it when referring to her from now on.

jumpjockey · 07/02/2009 20:50

Evening all, hope zoe and supercat are enjoying their very well deserved nights out! It's all go here, I'm in my PJs already BUT there's a good reason...! Must say a huge thankyou to my secret stork for the lovely lovely bath soak - I ran a bath at 7.15 and got in it with dd, she loved it and we got lots of smiles and waving of limbs. Took her out, into sleepsuit, feed, bedtime story and cuddles then lay her down sucking her fingers, five minutes later she was out like a light so I got back in the bath and had another 15 mins soaking and I'm sure it was the bath smellies that made her so snoozy.

Anyway - enough of my glamorous lifestyle

trace mmmm banana custard, that's a real treat kind of pudding fab effort you especially with two LOs to get off to bed.

arti oh that's just lovely. We've all done so well to make these little people - it really makes you realise what an absolute miracle life really is. [soppy]

bisou hello there old pal! Are you singing again? How's the voice doing, and the super-high F's?

veggie maybe a bear with no legs is an otter? though they don't have the right ears. Here's a joke for you!

What do you call a bear with no legs?

Whatever you like, he can't chase you

indith so glad you're feeling happier, it is lovely just to have some time with the baby and especially hard for you with two nippers so really well done for managing it. The 90 minute thing is just that for a few of us, if we catch our babies just before 90 mins after they last woke up (so if woke at noon, look out for tired signs from about 1.15 onwards) and manage to get them into a place where they can go to sleep, they often drop off at the 90 minutes awake limit. It's not an exact science but for me certainly has been working over the last week. Length of nap is up to the baby really, it's more to do with how long they can stay awake for before having a major over-tiredness meltdown. That burping method you suggested is brilliant, really easy and gets some top rumbles out. Thanks very kmuch for the tip!

verso blimey, 6.5 hours! That's fab. dd seems quite good now at falling asleep at 8-ish, but then wakes usually at midnightish and then every couple of hours thereafter, so at least dh and I get a bit of evening together, just not much sleep between midnight and getting up again!

Kimberly1979 · 07/02/2009 22:29

Evening Ladies!

Judah and I spent the day with DH in his art studio. DH has an exhibition coming up next week and has been insanely busy. It was nice to get to hang out with him today. DS did really well being away all day too. I was a bit worried it would muck up his sleep and feeding schedule... but all seems okay at the moment.

Turnip What did Yinka do for your 6 week check up? Is it just going in and chatting with him or did he actually do an exam?

Am totally excited about this North London meet up! I am definitely going to try and make this one! It will be lovely to see all you ladies and your little ones!

A bit confused (insert stupid american girl icon here) on 6 week check up appointments for the little ones. I thought I was supposed to go to my gp (that's 1 minute from the house) and register Judah and then make the appointment for his check up... but received a letter from some other clinic (that's 20 mins away) saying they have already scheduled an appointment for him. Not sure what I'm supposed to do. Would prefer to go to the gp right next to my house since I can walk there and don't have to fight public transport with LO in tow. Anyone know what I am supposed to do?

I saw where someone had mentioned they were working on getting passports for their LO's... Maybe veggie and kmp?? We are working on getting LO's so we can go back to the states for a wedding. Got online to make an appointment and there was nothing available until after June... wedding in May and we're in the wedding!! Called the Embassy and we were able to get an earlier appointment... but it's not until the end of March. Makes me a bit nervous that we might not get his documents in time and really don't want to have to pay to rush it through either. Also puts us in a crunch for tax time. We get a write off for having the baby... but he won't have a social security number before taxes have to be turned in. Hoping we can still get the write off since it's not our fault we couldn't be seen earlier.

Hope everyone's LO's have a good night of sleep!

kayzr · 07/02/2009 22:33

Jump I love the joke!!! It goes so well with 2 favourite jokes.

What do you call a deer with no eyes?

No idea!!

What do you call a deer with no eyes and no legs?

Still no idea!!!

DS2 had a really really long sleep earlier so I am not holding out much hope for a good night.

Oh no Kimberley that sounds a bit of a nightmare. I don't know if it helps but sometimes getting non British passports over here can be a bit quicker as there won't be that many people getting them iyswim. I had to get my British passport when I was in australia last because my citizenship came through just before I went home for a visit. Anyway it was supposed to take 3 weeks and it took half that time.

Where is your DHs exhibition?

Veggiemummy · 07/02/2009 22:42

My fav joke is also animal related

Horse walks into a bar, barman says 'why the long face'

So funny it still makes me giggle.

superC how about trying to reboot with a bath? works for us.

SybilFaulty · 08/02/2009 09:01

superC, glad you got out but sorry your night was pants. A bath sounds good or perhaps a short walk? I find when any of mine won't settle that a bit of fresh air helps. Thinking of you.

Kim, good to see you, I would go for the 6 week check in the most convenient place. IME, it is quite a brief thing anyway and just lets the baby see a Dr so he/she can sign off for the jabs. Incidentally, to those worrying about being late for jabs, whilst I think it is a good idea to get going asap, the risks of being late are really quite small, as one is not at much risk from tetanus etc lying in a moses basket. Good to get going now of course to build up some antibodies for when they start eating dirt outside, but whilst extremely annoying not to have the appointment at the right time I don't think harm will come. All my children have been late to be immunised ( a combination of Dr's surgery ineptitude and my own!) but seem fine

Veggie and Jump, am liking the jokes! Keep em coming.

Arti, that little glimpse into your family sounds lovely. A moment for you to treasure.

We had 2 great nights then it all went wrong again last night. Still, lazy day in prospect with a trip to the antiques auction up the road. Hope I don't get carried away. M crying, better go. Have a nice relaxing day girls!
