Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

apols, haven't really read much, but dd has FALLEN ASLEEP FOR THE FIRST TIME DURING THE DAY!!!! don't know how or why or what i did. was preparing her to go out to ikea (when in doubt, stick her in the car and go and spend some money) and so put her in her bouncy chair while i went to prepare stuff and ohmigod - she was/is asleep. was paralysed by indecision/choice - washing up/tidying/reading/eating/sorting/telephoning and plumbed for sleeping. so have just had a 40 min doze during the day FOR THE FIRST TIME IN AGES.

sorry. will read later and respond

Verso · 05/02/2009 14:11

Thanks for the compliments on my DDs!! Obviously I think they're gorgeous, but I'm biased!

arti can't help you on the later mornings thing. DH gets up for work at 5.30am (yes, I know caused many interesting exchanges of views in the early days of our marriage) and I am sure there is a connection with DD1 starting the day at 6am. She always has done - so I've ended up living with it. DD2 was starting to fall into a lovely 7am pattern until I realised it would make her out of synch with the rest of the family... well, with DD1 and DH anyway. What I'd give to be able to sleep to 7am!!

DD2 has been in a pickle all day. feedfeedfeed and no proper naps. Just hope I can ride it out and that the growth spurt will pass quickly because I'm responding to her cues... we can dream, anyway.

Interested to hear how long people are going between feeds/naps btw. We've generally been on a 3-hour during the day pattern and 4hr during the night - apart from the times where she goes a bit mental, that is!

Verso · 05/02/2009 14:12

WG cross-posted. Fab news!!! Hope the nap was lovely and refreshing!

kayzr · 05/02/2009 14:13

Lal I will keep my eyes out for bears Drop some hints to your DH about your birthday.

WG YAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope it is a sign of things to come.

Fabulous news WG. Maybe this is a sign of things to come .

LadyThompson · 05/02/2009 14:54

Lal, there are no more discomfiting words in the English language than Insufficient Fuss Made for Birthday. I know exactly where you are coming from too. I think I would say, in a chatty, jolly way "Ooh, do we have anything planned for x-day? I could really do with a treat for my birthday, this time of year is so dreary!" and keep that smile plastered on your face even if you are secretly seething. I think the direct approach is best but in my experience you have to make it NOT sound like a complaint, a nag or a point of anger. As far as gifts are concerned, I got round a similar problem by making a ginormous fuss of every gift DP ever came up with, which has encouraged him no end. I think with a lot of men it's lack of confidence or imagination when it comes to gift giving. DP's mind doesn't work in the same way as mine when it comes to such things (I always go to huge lengths). Sometimes I find it hurtful but I know he doesn't mean it to be. I hope you are pleasantly surprised!

WG, that is really good, hurray.

Been for another walk in the snow. Got work to do really but going to watch the latest Indiana Jones on dvd instead.

waitinggirl · 05/02/2009 15:22

Ok, have spent the past half hour teaching myself the hard way how our sodding bugaboo cameleon folds and unfolds. good use of my time??? and she is STILL ASLEEP. am now worried/paranoid/petrified that she won't sleep this evening. (can't win, can i?)

i may possibly wake her up - oh dear lord...

lal - a friend of mine has to regularly inform her dh that her birthday is approaching and what she would like for it. she has in the past seen his face crumple with fear and terror when someone else has given her a birthday present, when it has become perfectly obvious he's forgotten it. i think the straight approach may serve you best - at least he's got some time to plan for it (i think or have i got the wrong end of the proverbial?)

wish me luck on the sleep waking up thing

waitinggirl · 05/02/2009 15:48

have just posted a triptych of sleeping baby photos - yeah, right, like anyone else is that interested, but you never know. i look faintly disturbing - sorry.

Verso · 05/02/2009 16:09

Love the triptych (and that you styled it thusly ). I am sure I could raise you on the 'disturbing' front, btw, but wouldn't dare take a self-portrait for fear of cracking the camera lens. Hurrah for your sleeping baby!!

DD2 currently making serious nappy noises. What goes in must come out I suppose, despite a nappy extravaganza this morning. Am slightly disappointed all this incessant feeding hasn't turned me into a size eight overnight .

Lovely picture WG

We didn't get DS2 weighed, the weather is horrible and he has his 8 week check on Wednesday so they will do it there.

OP posts:
majormoo · 05/02/2009 17:29

Like the photos WG. I only wake DS2 if he naps in the day if I absolutely have to. Today he has slept from about 2pm and is only just starting to wake now. So far has not seemed to make a difference to the nights. Although he will be awake all evening now.

Lal-I will look out for the bears! Hope the birthday gets sorted.

Visited a friend who lives near the birthing centre where I had Jesse today and already felt nostalgic about the birth and he is only 6 weeks. I think because he is probably -DH would say definitely - our last, it just seems to go so fast. Met one of my friend's friends who, not realising we were talking about my son, said to me 'What sort of a name for a boy is Jesse? It's a girl's name'. She was very embarrassed to discover that was my son's name. This was at my friend's local village toddler group. Was very glad to scuttle back to Brighton where boys can have long hair, girls' names and do ballet if they like!!

SummerLightning · 05/02/2009 17:34

haha at the 'triptych'! Brilliant!

Ooh I am seething on your behalf at those smug mums Cat!! May they be blessed with many more children who are of the difficult variety! Glad you enjoyed the cinema though

lal I am with the others on the 'hint-dropping' about the birthday pressie/treat! Though I have to say out of DH and I, I am much more likely to forget his birthday (well not forget as I'd never be allowed to) or not make an effort than he for mine! he is so organized and it stresses me out!

wg I would be tempted to leave her asleep!

lal07 · 05/02/2009 17:44

Thanks for sympathy about my un-birthday. So next year I'm going to start dropping serious hints well in advance and in the meantime be super-effusive about any gift I do get. Good tips.

Wg those pictures are great. I have a real soft spot for self portraits. Also hadn't seen your profile before and spotted you liked bleak expectations - I loved it and only discovered recently pottering around on iplayer.

catdean at those people you overheard at the cinema. Anyone who has a remotely "easy" baby should just be eternally grateful and offer massive support and sympathy to those who don't. Bad vibes my ass. Friend of mine had angel baby first time round and thought she was kick ass mother - and then had no 2...

Hmm probably more ass than strictly necessary there. Am still pissed off and therefore sweary

kmp could you try sending your dog to the kennels for a night or two to try it out before you definitely decide about the trip?

P.S No bears sighted as yet.

LadyThompson · 05/02/2009 17:49

Jesse is a great name. Grrr. Some people. Like I have said before, I think our lot have Amazingly Good Taste when it comes to names.

Those pics are nice, WG! And yours Verso. And Cat, I have lost count of the number of people who have said that one of their kids is completely different to the other in terms of temperament or crying, and yet they have treated them exactly the same. It is the luck of the draw and no one will convince me otherwise. That woman in the cinema is naught but a smuggo.

LadyThompson · 05/02/2009 17:53

Cross posted with you, Lal. I love the bears. Am looking out for them. Mind you, if a couple strolled down my lane I wouldn't be faintly surprised.

I thought the Indy film was a little below par. Probably going to watch Capote tonight.

JollyBear · 05/02/2009 18:01

Ooooooooooh the bears are coming! I'm only one bear so I don't think I count .

Cat What horrible women! Lets hope they don't pass negative vibes onto their next child . Glad you enjoyed the cinema. I'm thinking of going to the one near us next week. Do you have to leave if the LO starts crying or is it expected?!

WG Love the triptych! You look delirious with joy!

Lal Send him an email with some links to gifts you might like. I think you have to be direct. DH bought me a torch for christmas once . I must have looked a bit flabbergasted/disappointed so he proceded to give me a run through of the 'features' - "it's a police issue you know" I honestly have no idea what he was thinking when considering what to buy... perfume, underwear, torch???!!!

major Ooops! Silly lady. Jesse is a lovely name.

verso Lovely pics

just chucking myself on the thread, real life sadly scuppering my mumsnet time at the mo will try catch up later.

LadyThompson · 05/02/2009 18:10

I am minded to crash the North London meet up. When is it? I have promised to take O into work either next week or the week beginning 23rd. And when is Veggie down?

LadyThompson · 05/02/2009 18:11

Work is North London, you see.

glad people liked the triptych. she eventually woke up 3 WHOLE HOURS after she went to sleep. made me feel a whole lot better but hasn't stopped her with her usual 5.30-7pm screaming fit which may or may not be her wanting food (i make her wait for food post bath to make sure she feeds really well before putting her down for the night - am i evil?) slightly worried that our nights will now be compromised (have been having 4-7 hours between feeds), but quite frankly that would be ok, because at least it's all an experiment to see what affects what.

cat - SO impressed you went to the cinema -would have come with if i had found out early enough - let me know if/when you go again - presume it's the rio? it's not the easiest one for me to get to, but i'd do my darndest.

and lal!!! ohmigod, SO excited you like Bleak Expectations - my dh wrote it!!!!!! i've wanted to post about it on here before, but felt a bit odd, so only referred to it indirectly. he's got to get the 3rd series written this spring which isn't easy with dd, i can tell you. it may have lots of references to babies in it - the last series he had a plotline about pip bin and ripely fecund who have a baby, as well as Mr Sourquill and Lily having a baby - it was really hard for him to write it as we had just had 2 miscarriages, but hurrah, we got pregnant and it stuck this time, so all was well. if dd had been a girl, we'd have called her Harry after Harry Biscuit. ooh, ooh, waves of pride are washing over me that you like it!

btw - dd has done some spectacular poos - they are yellow (hurrah, after the green ones), fairly watery and smell really strongly of vinegar - any ideas anyone???

kmp1 · 05/02/2009 19:00

Well just back from the Vet - all up to date on the booster shots etc.... Dog has to have a special isolation diet now as she has suspected food allergies - damn pedigree's!!

Veggie Aus cit sent off - the guy said if I need my passport back before 10-15 days I should call and they can send it ahead of the certificate - nice of them.
Lal yes I was thinking I might do that put her in the kennel for a trial as it would make me feel better!
Still a fussy eating baby here - I think he does it with wind as it's always towards the end of the feed - although my concern is the feeds are getting shorter - I'd rather have longer feeds but more time in between than this though...
JJ I have that book "What to expect the first year" - however I've only read the first month !
WG great photos - and excellent news on the sleeping daytime baby!
Stupid women at the cinema!!!!!!!
