good morning!

i am home with a poorly Lucy today
she is sooooo hot and seems to have intermittent headache/sore ear/sore tummy/sore ankle (by which she meant wrist!)/ sore eyes...basically all viral sounding but she's exhausted from being up so much last night. poor thing. her first day off school already.

well last night dh and i had arranged to go out for a couple of hours and i wasn't worried about leaving dd2 because she sleeps pretty well from 7 till 11 normally, and i left some ebm just in case. well after 1.5 hours we got a text from the babysitter saying P was screaming and refusing the bottle. So we came straight back and I BF her and put her back to sleep. No harm done of course but this does make me much less certain about leaving her with the ILs on Sat if she is going to refuse the bottle. What to do!!!
She also then had a weird night because she'd settle at a different time. SO between them my girls allowed me about 6.2 minutes sleep last night! But today we're all chilling out with blankets and TV so it's quite lovely really

Phoebe needs attention...back soon xxx

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 10:38

goodmorning, lurked all of yesterday. DS1 is waking more often not sure why but this is what DS1 did at around 4 months and ds2 is over 2months now. Hope it is just a blip and not permanent.

we also have some extensive road and paving works done at the moment and DS2 is in our room which is at the front of the house so he isn't sleeping so well for his nap. Am i wrong in thinking the council should always inform residents when there is going to be road works. They didnt even put those yellow signs up saying the parking bays would be suspended. I think I should right a stern letter.

I strained a muscle in my shoulder last night doing some yoga, as soon as i did the move (plank to upward dog) and pulled the muscle i knew i shouldnt have done the sequence yet as its a bit soon after DS2 was born, and those muscles are quite tight from pregnancy and BF but it was too late and now it really hurts. at least i dont need my shoulder to go snowboarding.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 10:47

ive just re-read that and the grammar is terrible sorry too tired.

Kayz & Trace sorry for all the sickness in your house, but Trace i love being able to curl up on the couch with them when their ill, we eat popcorn and watch DVD's yay.

I just got texted by a lesbian friend of mine from back home who doesn't have children asking how we are and if we have gotten DS2 into a routine!!! why the hell does it matter?

Trace i use non disposable nappies but in the past if DS1 ever did a massive leaky poo onto a baby grow that wasn't white, so couldnt soak it in with the nappy soak bucket i would throw it. I justified it by saying i wasn't then using any harsh chemicals to remove the stain. It didnt happen that often so i think it is fine.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 12:41

I have written a stern letter!

traceface · 27/02/2009 12:48

well done Veggie - I never did write to my gp to complain but maybe i will now! you've spurred me on

I feel so sorry for Lucy. She's so hot and calpol is not touching her. She's covered in goose bumps . And she doesn't want to eat - very out of character. All I've got down her so far today is 2 strawberries and few sips of water.

Turniphead1 · 27/02/2009 13:22

Aaargh can never seem to catch up. Bisou thanks for the link with the breast compressions for pumping. I am inspired. You and your DH are both hotties!! And your babe is gorgeous also. Can't wait to see you in your Magic Flute outfit.

Summer my Dh came home last night when I was reading about your rat and I jumped about 50 foot in air when he touched my shoulder. You are so brave!!!

LadyT about the quiz - but Oxford seems a tough gig for such matters. I too used to be good at general knowledge but have forgotten it all... baby brain

Jam didn't get as far back as your posts - but gather your DH got a job?! Yay. Can you say (or intimate) which bank?

Kayz hope you are all better. You poor thing.

Arti congrats on house - super.

Veggie hugs to you. I speak terribly to my DC sometimes (all except babyL who gets nothing but loving words....until she starts to speak back I am sure). I fear I am damanging them too in my darker moments - but in reality I know that the good stuff should outweigh the times when we are sharp with them etc. You are such a great Mum - but noone can be perfect all the time.

That Ibiza place sounds fab. I might look into it myself as DH seems adamant that we can only go to bleedin Scotland again in August as its all about him and his golf and he has no sunlight requirements. Me, I need vitamin D boost esp after having a baby. My only problem is that altho I go to yoga I am cr*p at it. Would that matter?

*Lal8 good to see you back. Hope you are recovred (in all senses)

OK going to post this although have missed page 1 and pages 3-6 - so don't be cross if I have been rude and missed some news. Tis a beautiful day. And L slept from after the 10.30pm feed til 5.45 last night .

Turniphead1 · 27/02/2009 13:27

WG I am also guilty of looking foward to MiL tales. Tell her Rosie Tuppence has a new middle name. Something like Booty. Or Punani??

My old boss in work's surname was Cox. His wife wanted to call their Dc Scarlett. Til he pointed out the obvious...

JamInMyWellies · 27/02/2009 13:34

Turnip its not with a bank he has gone even further over to the dark side its with BP.

Friend just turned up back later.

Oh Verso honey, no wonder you are at your wits end! That is just such an impossible schedule. This is probably a stupid question, but is there a feed between 7.15pm and 5.50am? (it's not written in there but perhaps you are feeding intermittently in the night?) If there's not, perhaps another feed would result in her sleeping a bit better for the second stretch? Forgive me & just ignore if I've got it wrong and you are feeding in the night. Or if you're just trying to get her into a routine of doing the nights without additional feeds.

I know what you mean about once having a baby who once did 6hrs then 4 - baby J used to do that too but then he went through a growth spurt at around week 5 and started needing a night feed. He now does two top ups, at around 2am, then 5am and does wriggle and grunt after that with wind till he wakes up at 7-8am ish, but nothing like what you've written down. I'm so worried for you, and agree with Jolly that you can't keep going on like that. I so hope you can get some more help, or that she miraculously grows out of it quick smart!

Trace we left DS with MIL one night last week so that DH could come to see me perform, and it was a really good thing for us to do emotionally. We were both so worried about leaving him and having him stress out without us there, but they were both fine and it's now given us the confidence to be able to go out and leave him with others. I'm sure your PIL will be fine and that the experience with the sitter was just a hiccup. Hope Lucy's feeling better soon and that you all get a bit more sleep today!

Arti WAHOOOOOOO about the house! That's such great news, you must be thrilled!

Rats in Oz Veggie? I must say that I've never seen one here, I've only seen mice in a tunnel at St James station one time. Also I've never heard of anyone I know having probs with huge spiders Effie - that's probably more in rural parts of the country rather than the cities, innit? Mind you we do have the most disgusting HUGE cockroaches... and there was one in the kitchen the other day that was about 5cm long! I don't know how the buggers get in but they are yuck yuck yuck.

Turnip glad you liked the video - I found it on another thread and I've been getting so much more milk since doing the compression, about 900ml (30oz) a day. But would you believe it's still not enough? He also has about 100-200ml of formula on top of that. What a piggie Wish I could have seen your link too, but I got the message "This video is not available in your country". Must be a BBC thing I'm guessing. Poop.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 15:42

Oh Cat I was going to that one until they announced this Ibiza one with def dates. Turnip I did the first mamaheaven in Wales about 3 years ago. I had only really been doing my baby Om book and a few baby yoga classes. Many of the women were yoga instructors on Mat leave due to their advanced level of practice they said they would do the sessions at a high level but said to people like me to just do what I could. Well anyway I was fine, saluting the sun with the best of them. I think it fast tracked my level a bit too.

I'm feeling very fiesty today, the stern letter gave me a bit of courage I think. I've just been to Next to return some baby grows that Ds2 never wore they were newborn ones which he was just born too big for never fit. I don't have the reciept anymore but they still had tags and even the soft paper in them, and I just wanted to get a bigger size not get money back. Anyway apparently they have been reduced from £12 to £6, so they would only give me a credit note for £6. So I rabitted on about trading standards and exchange rules etc which got me no where with the shop assistent, who I appeared to be scaring (I have very expressive eyes that can look scary if I get cranky according to DH) so I asked for the manager who took for ever to come down. I got all ready for a fight and she said yes no probs go pick something out. So now I have 3 more appropriately sized baby grows with dinosaurs on them.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 15:52

Oh Bisou they are pure evil the rats glad you haven't seen them. We had big huntsmen spiders which are harmless but a bit scary looking.

I know what you mean with the babysitting Trace, we had mo relatives here to 'break me in' at leaving ds1 with someone so it was a year and a half before I felt comfortable leaving him with anyone but DH and then it was a qualified nanny. But I think you need to let go, it us harder for you because with Lucy being prem you def wouldn't have had her babysat at this age.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 15:59

Oh and I mentioned to DH the other day about getting our usual sitter who is 15 to watch the boys while we go to a local pub one night, it is 3 doors down from us, and he nearly fell over. I think he remembers how freaked out I was about leaving ds1.

Oh and Trace ds1 only ever took a bottle from my mum when we went for a little walk when he was 7 weeks old so maybe if your MIL tries he will take it.

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 16:00

Oops sorry Trace 'she'

traceface · 27/02/2009 19:09

Veggie - I wrote my email to the practice manager and have had a reply saying that he was unaware of the problem with letters not being sent out and therefore missed checks and jabs, and he's going to investigate it and then respond fully to me. I told DH and he said someone will probably end up sacked, so now I'm really worried and wish I hadn't sent it!

dd1 has slept on and off today, is still burning up, has a headache and a tummy ache and has eaten the grand total of 3 strawberries, a banana and one bite of cheese. She's in bed again now. Poor lamb

dd2 has been like clockwork today, fed at 7.30, 9.30, 11.30, 13.30, 15.30, 17.30 and 18.30 and is now asleep in her cot . and my boobs are saggy!

Can't remember who was asking about encouraging a cluster feed before bed, but I do (see above!) - i always do 2 feeds within the hour before bed, with a bath between the feeds to keep her going. After that she'll sleep until anything from 10.30 till 2am but usually about 12.30, then again at 4ish then 7ish.

Turniphead1 · 27/02/2009 19:45

trace doubt anyone will be sacked...this is the NHS we are talking about here I think you were right to complain. Its not on. You knew to chase it up. Someone else might not and their DC might get very sick without jabs. Yours poor DD1 hope she gets better.

My DH is cooking me a humungous steak. Yummy! Must need iron as am craving it.

Cat we have had to go cold turkey on the Mam silk (since monday) as L s weight had plateaued and I think it had interfered with the feeding a bit. Feeding has improved and she has gained - but boy do I miss the extra minutes that the Mam granted me. Now I have top listen to a bit more crying as I deal with the elder two. Hoping to reintro at some stage!

Jam it could be worse. Could be Nestle . A job is a job!! Brilliant. My DH is starting to hunt even tho he is not redundant yet.

Re; cluster feeding at tea time> I don't have to force DD2. Its all she does. I have a two hour bonanaza from 5 to 7 but she does go down well at 7 and rarely if ever wakes before her feed at 10.30.I do find it a very tiring time to be feeding and am only able to spend the time doing it because we have the nanny. But she is going in 5 weeks (boo hoo).

JollyBear · 27/02/2009 19:49

Hello all,

trace Poor Lucy. It's so horrible feeling so under the weather. I hope a restful day with mum leads to a good nights sleep and a better day tomorrow. I agree with turnip that no one will be sacked. Your complaint should get a better system put in place so no one else has a missed appointment.

Kayz Glad you should be able to come. DH is still unsure of the date as it is a rescheduled meeting. Very annoying! I want to let you Yorkshire ladies know!

veggie Well done you for writing a letter! My Dad used to work nights and used to get very angry and ring the council when they did roadworks without notice. Good on you for getting an exchange too.

Bisou Urgh cockroaches, poor you. DH's brother is working in Australia at the moment and enjoys emailing their mum pictures of big spiders! She can't stand tiny British spiders never mind Aussie monsters .

DH is out on a works do and DD has decided to keep waking up even though she is really tired. Has anyone else got the BT digital monitor? I like lullaby number 3!

Veggiemummy · 27/02/2009 20:21

Trace the NHS won't sack anyone probably just hold a meeting about it send a memo or buy expensive computer software to send letters. I only ever sacked one person while I was a manager and that was a lady I had hired who had been doing agency shifts but after she started working permanently she was forging one of my F grades signatures on Agency pay sheets and charging for extra shifts she hadn't done.

Olipop · 27/02/2009 20:37

Evening!! Cinders here...all my family and friends are down the pub celebrating SIL 40th. I have just had a guinness and am catching up on you ladies and cluster feeding Heidi! Feeling a bit empty now though. I'll have to wait until the Guinness filters through!

Jam - BP isn't so dark. I work for Shell!
What is your DH doing for them? Don't worry if you don't want to say. I'm just being curious (or is it nosey!!!).

I've just had an interesting text message from my team leader incidentally. My senior boss has agreed to myeslf and another girl jobsharing my old (previous to previous maternity leave) job. That type of role has never been job shared before so it is pretty pioneering! I'm excited and terrified in equal measures. I didn't expect them to agree (not that I even requested it anyway) so was stunned that it is all going through.

Verso, just wanted to send virtual support. My nights were just like that with my DS. I have no advice except that I know what it is like to be semi blind from tiredness. Hope you are getting some help x

Turniphead1 · 27/02/2009 20:46

Oli you are not in the legal dept of Shell are you?

Olipop · 27/02/2009 20:54

nope, oil operations

traceface · 27/02/2009 20:58

Verso - how goes it today? I too (like Bisou) was wondering whether your dd fed at any of those times in the night or whether she settles without milk? Is there anything to gain from trying a night without the clock? I really hope she settles down for you soon and allows you some decent chunks of sleep. How are you feeling in yourself? I guess it's a bit early for the tablets to have much effect yet. Keep going xxx

I'm in a biscuit mood. Have eaten 4 and I'm using all my will power to not have another.

Dh's birthday tomorrow - and the planned 'leave the girls with the ILs' might not happen now because Lucy is so poorly. After all that deliberating! Unless she wakes up right as rain, which children seem to do

well Dh is out, both girls are still sleeping and i'm reading a trashy mag! Perfect! Going to finish my cuppa and hopefully no more biscuits then hit the sack.

traceface · 27/02/2009 20:59

ooh Oli that's exciting about your job!

artichokes · 27/02/2009 21:04

Trace - you are my Friday night twin. I am eating biscuits and reading mags while revelling in the fact that both girls are sleeping.
