Hello.

Trace I went with your idea!!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
SummerLightning · 25/02/2009 22:43

Evening all, I have been out for my first night out sans DS! hooray, a wee bit tipsy, have partaken of some wine and some SummerLightning.

trace i think you should go. Maybe cut down on the amount of time you go for so you feel comfortable with it, but you may find that the ILs surprise you and are better than you think.

DS has apparently slept the whole time I am out, he settled at 7pm which is unheard of and has slept since!! But I have found in general when I am out that I worry but that DH can look after DS no problems, and has even defrosted milk for the first time, no worries, and it was all fine. So I think trace that we have a tendency to worry too much, and so what if it's not perfectly what you would do, you get some time off and get used to occasionally leaving P with someone else and I think that is good to get used to. Sorry I may be a bit tipsy but hopefully that makes sense.

veggie you always sound like such a natural at motherhood, I am sure your little DS1 train geek loves you.

arti wahoo about the house, is that the same house you were lusting after several months back?

I am sure I had more to say but I have forgotten.

Oh the rat man is coming round on Friday! And I have had words with next door, I looked at the front of their house in detail today and it is more disgusting than I thought, it is like a mini-tip.

lal07 · 25/02/2009 22:57

Helllooo

Am back from tour of relatives...and in land of living after being laid low with nasty virus (probably brought about by strain of having to keep face neutral through various in-law antics). And have finally caught up. I did miss you - I hadn't quite realised how I'd got used to being on here. This and filling up shopping baskets I never buy at various online stores. That's where the day goes...

Will properly catch up tomorrow. Love to you and your babies and good nights one and all.xx

Veggiemummy · 25/02/2009 22:59

Hooray for feeling tipsy Summer glad you had a good night and now ds1 has gone down once at 7pm he better do it for you tomorrow. That is very sweet of you to say, and also it seems I have another Thomas head in the family Ds2 was watching in absolute wonder when ds1 as playing with his bath Thomas.

Not sure about the ribcage thing but the hips would def effect jean fitting. And that brain thing is very interesting. DH is completely in awe of how I can cook dinner, do the washing up chat with ds1 and do stuff on the Internet all at once. Dh is definitely a mono tasker, he is not allowed to listen to anything on the radio whilst driving as he can't concentrate on driving at the same time.

Veggiemummy · 25/02/2009 23:03

Oh please fill us in the ILs antics tomorrow LAL, and nice to have you back.

Oh and hooray for the house Arti! Bet your itching for all the other crap to be out of the way now. Did you say there was quite a long chain with this one. LadyT what happened with the house you were looking at?

LadyThompson · 25/02/2009 23:28

This is going to be a mini-post and will catrch up tomorrow eve - just back from pub quiz in the village. Me and DP came last but one and I am hopping mad as I fancy myself at such things. But a load of travelling Dons cleaned up. Bloody Oxford.

Put in a low offer on the house but YAY Arti!

NIght lovely girls. Me too Summer.

traceface · 26/02/2009 09:30

oh dear Veggie - think you'd better make it a strong one!

Why does Phoebe choose to explode out of her nappie and paint her clothes in poo 2 minutes before we have to leave for school?!!! I just stripped her, wiped her down with wipes, redressed her and bunged the mucky nappy, along with poo-full vest and sleepsuit in a bag and binned the whole lot!. Very wasteful but she's grown out of almost anyway, so one less to store away for dc3 who we'll probably never have!

lal - welcome back!

well thank you all for your feedback re leaving P with the outlaws. I was a bit surprised because i thought you'd all say "oooh don't leave her, I wouldn't leaverher, you'll just worry..." but you didn't! You all told me to get on with it (in a nice way!) so we rang them last night and ssaid we'd do it. Feel ok about it. Thanks guys for kicking me up the bum

On that subject are we still kicking Daisy's dh up the bum?

well I think dd1 is poorly. She was really pale after school yesterday and said she had a tummy ache. She was freezing so went to bed in a jumper, then was boiling in the night so took it off! But she woke twice in the night (annoyingly between dd2's feeds!) with sore 'front bottom', fever and tummy ache, then this morning said she had a headache and felt dizzy - although I'm not sure she knows what dizzy is, as she often says her arms are dizzy! Then she said her ear hurt and everything else was better! She's very pink and warm but has gone to school anyway. Not her chirpy self though .

can't decide whether to try too go and buy jeans this morning or just chill at home. When I'm knackered in the middle of the night I always resolve to rest the next day, but then when day comes along I never do!

Reading all these babies' sleep patterns made me think that Summer ought to be doing a spreadsheet of it!!!

traceface · 26/02/2009 09:35

just re read my post and judging by the spelling and grammar I think I ought to stay home and rest!

kayzr · 26/02/2009 09:57

Morning,

Veggie The tips were to put a stairgate on his door(I'm not too keen on this) and when he gets out of bed to take him back, not to engage with him just say "Bed, it's night time" and to keep doing it over and over again. It can take up to 2 weeks and HV also said it can carry on for up to 3 hours a night.

Last night wasn't too bad, but we think he might be teething. He was really screaming and when he calmed down he said his teeth hurt. Do they get teeth at 2???

Nice to have you back Lal

JollyBear · 26/02/2009 10:57

Morning all,

rosmerta LOL at leaving your LO on the changing table!

Kayz Oh well looks like I might have to invest in some new bras then. Hope you get DS1's sleeping sorted out soon, it must be really hard to cope with. Not sure about the teeth I'm afraid.

Trace I understand completely what you mean about no one else being able to care for DD2 as well as you and DH do. No one can! I must admit to not having left DD yet but I think it is time to bite the bullet and draft in DH's parents for a few hours.

Oh trace, kayz, hatty and any other Yorkshire ladies - DH is going to York just for the day in early March for a meeting and I think DD and I are going to go along for the ride. Do you fancy meeting up for a cup of tea or something?!

Arti Great news on the house!

Zoe I think you should keep going to post natal group as it is important for you to get out and about. DD is rubbish at sleeping in the day but not going out would make me miserable!

turnip V funny video! The hair is very Brian May Wg What a great friend to have. I love Peep Show!

Jam Hope you find the money! I'd left some tablets on the side with some empty packets the other week and into the bin it went. I found they were missing the next day and had to pick through all sorts of grotty debris to find them.

kayzr · 26/02/2009 11:02

Jolly If I can afford it I will be there!

off to north wales for a family wedding with the in laws. tales of 3 days with mentalists to follow, no doubt...

traceface · 26/02/2009 11:22

wg - is it wrong of me to be looking forward to the IL tales?!!

jolly - count me in! Another Yorkshire meet-up - whoop whoop! think zoe is yorkshire too...

jumpjockey · 26/02/2009 12:14

Morning everyone - another super-busy night!!

DD has a bit of a cold so spent the night snoring like a train (and her dad too... ) but has been asleep in the sling for about an hour, hopefully being upright makes it easier to breathe?? Very interesting to see everyone's routines or absence of!

WG I'm with trace, bring on the inlaw stories... That vid is hilarious, is it only me who's a bit worried by how much he seems to enjoy wearing a leotard?!

arti hooray for the house news, that's great!

dammit spoke too soon, she's now woken up again and being crosspatch so will catch up again later. Waiting for a delivery that says between 8am and 7pm, any bets they'll arrive just as I go to the loo?!

artichokes · 26/02/2009 13:11

Agh, agh, agh. That is what I have to say about today.

Like Summer I ventured to the pub last night and had a little too much cheerfullness. I got home at 11.30pm and accidently woke DD2 who then fed 'til 12. She then woke between 3 and 3.30am and was up for the day at 6.10am. I am hungover and tired and have spent the morning in the freezing park hunting for crocodiles with DD1. I want my bed NOW. Why, oh why, does DD1 never nap???

How are you feeling this morning Summer?

Have fun with the ILs and tuppence WG...

Any news on your offer LadyT?

And good on you for committing to the night out Trace. I hope you have fun.

zoejeanne · 26/02/2009 14:19

jolly/trace/kayz yes please!

Back from DDs first trip to the swimming baths, which she loved, so we'll be back next week. Poor love is so so tired now, and typically fighting sleep. Should I be worried that the session 'leader' welcomed us by saying 'hi I'm K and please don't drown as I don't know how to swim'?!

kayz good luck with DS1's nighttime routine

I've been re-reading (again!) the baby whisperer and she suggests cluster feeding in the evening to get babies to sleep for longer at night. I (obviously stupidly) thought that cluster feeding was baby lead when they are having a growth spurt rather than mother lead, does anyone 'force' cluster feed their LOs? And does it work?

zoejeanne · 26/02/2009 14:20

Oh, and I meant to pass arti a paracetemol and a big black coffee ... get well soon love

Verso · 26/02/2009 14:26

Interesting, zj - my night nanny (which sounds very grand but really isn't) has suggested waking DD2 at 8pm and 10pm to cluster feed as I'm desperate to break her dreadful sleep pattern. I will be trying it for the first time this evening. (FWIW I thought the same as you and though cluster feeding was baby-led and hadn't heard of imposing it on them.) I was meant to try it last night but was in bits with tiredness and (d)H told me I shouldn't do it.

zoejeanne · 26/02/2009 14:59

verso let me know how it goes, I'd be really interested to hear (fingers crossed it works as it sounds like you need a good nights sleep more than anything else right now). I'm going to go back to the book to see how the BW suggests going about it and might try it myself tonight.

daisydora · 26/02/2009 15:39

DS had shocking night last night with his cold. H took till 11 to settle and then awake every 2 hours. I still feel ill but DH is off today so did look after the DC's and leave me in bed till 9, so his virtual arse kicking may have paid off

DS has finally poo-ed this morning OMG I never thought it possible that so much could come out of someone so small. It soaked through his vest...anyway unlike trace I did decide to wash it

As for IL tales...don't get me started on my mil at the mo. I started a thread on AIBU, never again although I love MNers for their honest opinions

Verso · 26/02/2009 18:10

Awake only every two hours?!

Here's last night - which is pretty identical to every night of the past three weeks. Heaven knows what happened to my baby who used to sleep six hours then four...

7:15-12:52 sleep 5h 37
(8:45pm - I went to bed - so therefore had 3hrs and 7 minutes' sleep)
12:52 awake
1:30 asleep
2:42 awake
2:44 asleep
3:11 awake
3:30 asleep
4:52 awake
4:57 asleep
5:50 feed
6:30 awake and alert/happy

daisydora · 26/02/2009 19:47

Oh verso you poor thing! I can't imagine how hard that must be for you.

JollyBear · 27/02/2009 09:34

Morning all,

Kayz, Trace and Zoe I'm really glad that you are all interested in meeting up! I'll chase DH for the date and let you all know asap. Kayz Sorry things are so tight at the minute . The job centre sound rubbish - they're not listening to your DH's situation at all.

Verso How did the cluster feeding go? It must be really difficult to cope with all that night waking. Did you ask your mum to help out one night? I know you said your DH said not to ask her but as you said she can sleep the next day and the other 6 nights of the week. You really can't carry on managing on your own with such broken sleep every night - it's inhumane.

Zoe Glad the swimming was fun. It's rather worrying that the instructer couldn't swim!

kayzr · 27/02/2009 09:40

Morning,

Verso That is a horrible night. I feel bad for moaning about DS1 waking at 5 and refusing to go back to bed.

Jolly I should be able to make it. Child benefit goes in next Tuesday so as long as it isn't Monday it should(fingers crossed) be fine.

Hope all of you and your los are fine.
