Hi all, apologies for my meltdown yesterday, I appear to have scared everyone off!

Thanks very much for the advice & support CSWS. I'm feeling much more positive today DESPITE having not much sleep - I think we're hitting the 16 week growth spurt - CSWS (or anyone) do you know where I'd find a list of all the ingredients I need to watch out for, including the sneaky hidden ones like e-numbers? I'm going to see the doctor on Monday to tell him my plan and see if I can see a dietician I'd definitely rather try dairy free than the dreaded "W" word...

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/02/2009 14:59

lol at scaring everyone off!
We were travelling back home this morning. Dd very upset to leave her beloved nanny.

No e numbers to worry about. You need to be wary of obvious stuff (eg cheese, milk protein), and then stuff like casein, whey and lactose. Stuff with milk in should say 'contains milk' in the allergy advice section, but occasionally it doesn't, so I always check the ingredients too.

Marthasmama · 22/02/2009 15:06

Dairy free gets easier with time Honeymoon - I was advised to go wheat and dairy free by nutritionist for my benefit. No more hot buttered toast. Boooo .

I think I'm going mad because I'm feeling really broody! DD is not sleeping through the night yet but I still keep thinking, maybe we could have another one. We have the room and should be able to afford it...... Even DH keeps mentioning it.

bigmouthstrikesagain · 22/02/2009 15:32

Hello remember me???

I have not being keeping up with all the chat on this thread every time I lurk it all moves too fast - will have a proper read through tonight.

I am jealous of you with pfb's - it reminds me how little new toys and books we have bought for dd2 - as it is her big sister trys to sit in her bumbo and runs off with her rattles! We will have a nightmare keeping ds fiddly little lego out of reach once she is crawling - there are choking hazards all over the floor most days - gulp!

On the plus sides - dd2 is quite the sweetest most contented baby i have ever encountered - she gets plenty of lovely attention from ds who likes to make dd2 giggle. She has been very healthy aside from continual colds - and I am looking forward to spring with her sitting up at the table with us. So far she has not been squashed by her huge gallumph of a sister so all is good really.

Go for it MM!

Hello stranger BMSA. Nice to have you back.

OP posts:
Honeymoonmummy · 22/02/2009 16:41

Hey MM, if you're quick you might catch the November 09 thread!

Hi there BMSA.

So I can't have yogurt, right?

heather1980 · 22/02/2009 16:44

well, alex loves to roll over! he keeps doing it and looks so happy when he's on his tum. still not sleeping through though
well relations have resumed here finally! was a bit sore but ok, i was so worried coz it was really painful after dd was born but i was fine. thank god.
we're away from tomorrow at centre parcs with the ils so wish me luck!
my mantra is ignore her ignore her ignore her! i may have to sneak in a few bottles of vodka to get me through the week!

star6 · 22/02/2009 19:24

not even alpro soya yogurt... ? I've been eating that...

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/02/2009 20:39

You can have soya yoghurt, unless you're trying to avoid soya totally as well for a couple of weeks (bloody hard - I did it for 2 weeks with dd, but not with ds, although I try not to have lots of soya).

aubergenie · 22/02/2009 21:05

Welcome back Bigmouth.

Good luck Heather! I'm a bit of anyone going away at the moment, even with terrible ils.

Having got through the growth spurt we now seem to be in teething hell. Ds is fine during the day, but seems to be in real pain in the evenings and very unsettled during the night, waking every hour or so. Poor little fella, I wish I could do something.

Does anyone's lo actually have any teeth yet?

CantSleepWontSleep · 22/02/2009 21:21

No one's mentioned actually having teeth yet aubergenie, so I assume not.

I am a total hypocrite. I allowed ds to suck at a banana that he grabbed from me today . He seemed to really enjoy sucking gently at the end of it. Am not sure that he actually ate any, but he def liked the flavour. I must try not to eat whilst holding him!

SmudgeyDoodle · 22/02/2009 21:21

HMM glad you are feeling a bit more positive on the dietary front. Good luck with the dr tomorrow. Myjob - have you found anything for the dedication? Have you had a look for top and trousers/skirt rather than a dress (or maybe you weren't even looking at a dress)? I think there is some nice stuff around but you need to have time to look so not good with DC. I've had to do a fair bit of holiday clothes shopping - had fun trying on a tankini thing whilst DS played peepo with the curtain! If you're not totally convinced with what you find, make sure you get yourself some new makeup/accessories to brighten up an old favourite? CSWS glad you had a nice time away. Heather have a lovely holiday and for the relations! I'm lucky that my MIL is fairly laid back but I'll let you know how 10 days away with the whole in law family goes. I'm booked in to get a coil when we get back from hols so DH and I were buying condoms today. We had an interesting conversation about how many times he thought he was going to get lucky MM I sort of feeling broody too. Keep looking at the little baby clothes and thinking that it would be nice to have another one. BMSA hello hello. Our DD seems to have survived being sat on quite a lot too. The thing is that he always says Please Seesa (which is him saying Excuse me please A) before he sits on her so I find it quite hard to get
Lots of packing to do tomorrow, cleaning etc etc so I think this is me signing off for a couple of weeks. Hope dairy free trials go well, teething babes don't suffer too long and that sleep becomes our friend. Wish us luck!

SmudgeyDoodle · 22/02/2009 21:23

LOL at banana CSWS! Not going against what you said though, he did it himself!

not broody here either myjob. I get teary as Q grows bigger, but can't even face the prospect of making another one still.

star6 · 23/02/2009 05:17

just realized I hven't done 10pm dream feed in AGES.... DS isn't screaming for a feed when he's up for hte day at 5.30 or 6.30 every day, either... it's strange - dh picks him up out of cot then. When he sees me, he stares at my chest and then wants a feed... but isn't out of his head for it like he used to be (inconsolable until fed!) not sure why I'm worried about this... he's plenty chubby, just want to make sure I'm giving him enough - I feed him whenever he wants it - no schedule to speak of here...
but I'm thinking maybe I should be sticking to a certain number of feeds so his brain and everything develops normally??

Honeymoonmummy · 23/02/2009 10:04

We need to see the dress NOW Myjob...NOW

I'm feeling pretty broody too, I wish I'd started this baby-making malarkey years ago!! Friend just told me she's PG, it reminded me that it's a year since I found out I was PG the other day.

Star, I'd say as long as he's gaining weight then all his other bits will be developing too, don't worry!

Smudgey/ Heather - have a great holiday! I have no idea how you manage to pack everything into a suitcase for babies!!!

CSWS - what can I say? Classic.

I'm off to see doc at 11, will let you know how I get on.

loulou33 · 23/02/2009 11:32

hows the dairy free going hmm - dont' forget that quorn has lactose in it too, not sure about the beef strips as i don't like them but the xhicken ones and the slices all have lactose in them. you can buy lactose-free formula, not that i am encouraging you to give up bfing. Nutramigen is available at chemist but it is eye-wateringly expensive (£14 for a very small tim) so think carefully before trying. Lactose free forumlas in shops have soy which not considered very good for babies - right csws??? you can get goats milk forumla on internet, nanny goat i think its called...

Have been on a bit of a downer too as joe still being sick and he wants to sit up all the time but this makes him sick more as he has quite mastered it yet and i think it presses his tummy in. he's not ready for weaning yet but hv said i have to start at 26 weeks (which is only 3 weeks away) and i don't think he's physically ready yet (his head is still too floppy). he can roll over but i worry that he's a bit behind his peers and won't be ready to wean til nearer 7 months. he's been up a lot at night too, just twice but then not going bakc to sleep for about 2 or 3 hours so i've been knackered. he was better last night, still two wake ups but off to sleep after 30 mins or so.
right dh hovering around wanting to work and i must clean the bathroom - oh joy, that'll cheer me up no end

CantSleepWontSleep · 23/02/2009 11:42

Lactose free formula won't actually help, as it's normally the cows milk protein that's the problem, not the lactose, and lactose free stuff still contains this. Goat formula actually illegal in the UK.

for Joe still being sick. Funny you say that about the sitting - I find that ds is sick more if I put him in the bumbo, presumably because his tummy is too scrunched up. Try not to worry about the weaning yet loulou - a lot can happen in 3 weeks, so you may be quite happy to wean him by then.

Hope it went well with doctor hmm.

Am sure that Q's brain will be developing along nicely with the rest of him star.

Am off to try ds in the zuma highchair in town this afternoon, once we've dropped dd at school. If we like it then I'll order online later, as can get it cheaper than in John Lewis.

Hi All
Thanks for your wises re my gran. We went sat and she is poorly, she recognised me but you could tell she was not quite sure who I was, she gets me and my mum mixed up. Also had to feed her as she not eating. She looked vacant, such a shame.

All ok here otherwise. Had my sis here for weekend which was lovely and she helped alot with dd1.

CSWS did you go out in worcs sat?
MYJOB sorry about the stress with the scales but glad 'N' is weighing a good weight and you happy.

Was wondering if we would be getting any announcements soon to say someone is pregnant! I think I am far too tired for it to be me

OK well going to go check DD1 who is eating soup.
Sorry did read posts but have not forgotten them by the time I got to end so hope you are all well and babies are all fine.

loulou33 · 23/02/2009 13:29

wow, csws i didn't know goats milk formula was illegal, osteopath told me about it and never actually used it - why is it illegal?? nutramigen has no cows milk or lactose in it unless they've changed it recently. I have an old empty tin and it still smells vile. i fed that to ds1 on advice of paed, what was i thinking??

Joe is definitely more sick if i put him in his bumbo which is a shame because he loves it in there when we put him on the table with us at mealtimes. i'm hoping that things magically get better in the next 3 weeks and he can sit up without being sick so much. he loves being on his tummy too but that makes him vomit although he's not bothered by it. he rolled over this morning, was sick and before i could clear it up, his head got too heavy and he dropped face first into his own sick... poor darling was covered in it and was none too happy either.

hope the highchair try out goes well this pm - you are a dedicated shopper when it comes to highchairs!!

ronshar · 23/02/2009 14:29

I have found that as long as I stay clear of cheese, milk and chocolate William isnt too bad. Also too much caffine makes him sick. So it is decaf tea and almost no chocolate. Rubbish.

Honeymoonmummy · 23/02/2009 14:52

I just did a really long post then lost it. Poo

Honeymoonmummy · 23/02/2009 15:06

Jenwa, I'm really sorry to hear that about your gran, it must be awful to see someone you love deteriorate like that, all my grandparents went quite suddenly x

I've been to the docs and he and the paed both think that going dairy-free would not benefit in Poppy's case. He didn't really explain why but he said we can increase the gaviscon and give her lactulose if the constipation gets too bad. He said we don't need to consider weaning early as long as she continues to gain weight. So I think I'm going to slowly increase the gaviscon dose- we're at just under half the max dose at the moment- and see how we go. I may just take it easy on the milk, cheese and choc front rather than cut it out completely, that won't hurt for me as much as her! (She says having just finished a Toffee Crisp! If quorn has got lactose in aswell then I'm screwed if I go dairy free!!

CSWS, let us know how you get on with the highchair, did anyone say they'd seen the 3-sixty anywhere?

Ronshar, have you tried Yorkshire tea caffeine free, it's not really different I don't think.

Loulou sorry to hear that poor Joe isn't doing much better than Poppy by the sounds of it, it's awful isn't it? Had to smile at the thought of the poor mite dropping his head into the sick though I'm afraid!

Right, mustn't lose this one...
