Ah jenwa. What's good for a day/afternoon out in Worcs? We're there at the mo, but mum is working tomorrow, so we need to entertain both dc ourselves.

I forgot to mention earlier - I had a dream a few nights ago that someone came and took Q from his crib and I was chasing after him but couldn't keep up and he kept getting further and further away... it was horrible so now I have my own attachment issues - I go and check on him every 5 minutes, convinced someone is going to come in a window and take him or something.... we live in a 1 bed maisonette on the first floor!!!!

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/02/2009 21:07

Bath toys - ds not bothered yet. Stacking cups work well in bath! ELC bath rollers quite fun. I want the musical bath octopus things, but they say from 18 months!

Forgot to say well done for weight gain .

How annoying, I hope you manage to get a replacement pressie, Myjob.

Honeymoon ds loves [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000I2MRHO/ref=nosim/coffeeuk43310-21 this. It doesn't look like much, but it has lots of different textures, rings to chew on, mirror to look in etc etc. Keeps him occupied for ages. I think lots of the Lamaze toys are really nice.

aubergenie · 19/02/2009 21:10

I'll try again: this

Oh CSWS you are here in worcs!!!! I have a friend round tomorrow otherwise would have been lovely to meet you.
Ok, there are 2 ball pits but they will be sooo busy because of half term, the one in town (old co op and the one in st Johns called Little Acorns)
Manor Farm pub in st Johns has a ball pit (although also busy with half term) but they have 2 meals (selected ones) for £9 at the mo and do nice kids food if you wanted to eat out and let kids play.
There are afew nice parks about. Cripplegate in st johns has had afew new things put in but not sure if its open and the big park in barbourne Gheulevault (can never spell it!)
If you do go to town opposite Early Learning is the art cafe and they are very child friendly (have toys etc and come to your table to serve) food little more fancy and pricey but easy with kids
There is a nice little park in Hallow just on the left opposite Vauxhall Garage, it looks like you go down a lane but then it turns into a car park with a park at the end (only small but nice for your DD) plus there is the crown pub there and another nice pub
Its really hard as Worcs not most entertaining for kids. We tend to do parks or food and play!
My DH is now working at a unit in top barn farm (hallow) and they have a farm shop there with animals to pet outside (sheep adn goats) not yet been but planning on it soon as its nice drive out and there is a little play area for kids I think but not been so cant say for sure! Will see if I can think of anything else!

heather1980 · 19/02/2009 21:15

honeymoon, we have millions of toys. my house is like elc! alex doesn't really bother with bath toys but dd liked ones that squirted water the best (and still does!)
these are good.
she also has some stacking cups that have holes in the bottom that she likes.

jenwa · 19/02/2009 21:17

star poor you, What a horrible dream.
Are your windows locked? We keep ours locked with the keys somewhere we know incase of fire etc.
You can also put windchimes near the window if you are really worried so you would hear if they were opened.
Oh I dont want you to panic and I am sure you are just scared from your dream.

loulou33 · 19/02/2009 21:21

i can't keep up with you all - highchairs, boob size, kidnapping dreams - it all goes on here!!

Myjob - i thought it was only me that had those problems with deliveries - hope you get a new set for Sunday.

Weaning question - with blw, do you just give them some cooked stuff and let them goet on with it so to speak? I gave Joe a cooked baby carrot tonight as he was sat on my knee staring and drooling at my dinner. he gummed it for a few mins and bits broke off, half fell out the but other bits made him choke!! i gave ds1 puree and spoon fed him so i have no idea what i'm doing with blw!! i was not planning on weaning Joe for another couple of weeks, i just thought i try to offer him something but i'm not sure it was a good idea now though he wasn't upset fortunately. Is there a good book out there on blw??

jenwa · 19/02/2009 21:22

csws do you like garden centres? Webbs in wychbold is lovely and very big and has a play area outside for kids. Restaurant is very expensive but if you not eating there its lovely to go and wonder around. They have loads of stuff there including childrens books and toys and a hobby craft shop. Not sure if your thing but nice for a morn/afty out. Its fab at xmas but not sure what will be there now prob all the easter stuff. They also have animals (rabbits and hamsters and fish) which always keep DD amused

star6 · 19/02/2009 21:24

I totally have windchimes at every window (for that reason ). I'm a bit neurotic!! ha!
BOOKS for bath are great - the plasticy ones that can get wet! And BOOKS for toys (not in bath) as well are great! Q has LOVED to look at books and listen to us read aloud to him since birth. Now he touches the pages and sometimes babbles along as we read (very rhythmic!) Sorry - as a teacher of children at the time they learn to read... I had to put a plug in for books there!! ha! We read to him every morning and evening and on the weekends during the day as well. he just loves it!
I want that graco seat bouncy walker thingy you got myjob. That looks so cool. Does N like it? It's expensive, so I want to make sure it's worthwhile...

jenwa · 19/02/2009 21:24

DD1 loves her bath toys but prefers ones that actually are not bath toys like her animals from her farm or dolls etc. SHe has bath drums but uses them to play cake making! Also she loves empty bottles and anything that squirts!

star6 · 19/02/2009 21:29

I can't believe its nearly 9.30 and I'm UP still!! wow! Really taking a risk here lol. Q has been waking a bit since I put him down tonight but I think it was too cold in there. Cranked the heat so now hopefully he will sleep better. he LOVES a warm warm room with his 2.5 tog sleeping bag on over his sleepsuit and two blankets on top (and he's on his tummy on the flannel sheet!) Thank GOD loulou for that breathing monitor!! Seriously, though - he's not sweating at ALL and nuzzles down more into the blankets even. DH can't stand it. But I'd prefer the bed to myself lately anyway

We have these cute squirty rubber boats from sainsbury that our lovely neighbour who we often take packages for brought over for Q one day. They are great! They squish, squeeze, squirt and Q thinks they are quite tasty

SmudgeyDoodle · 19/02/2009 21:40

Star that really does sound like a horrid dream. Sounds like things are a little fraught for you emotionally at the moment and that is probably why you had it. Have you heard from your friend? I'm really chuffed that DD is now starting to go to bed at 7ish and I can put her down awake. The rest of the night doesn't necessarily go quite as I would plan (still feeds every 3 hours and usually ends up in our bed by about 2) but at least we start ok. DD is full of smiles but boy can she scream when she's had enough. DH been away for the last few nights so I've been doing it alone and it's bloomin hard work. Hats off to those of you who do this all the time. I am now starting to get excited about our holiday. Managed to entertain them both in town for 5 hours last week so not dreading the flight so much. Too late for me to pass on my words of wisdom to KSal but I would advise anyone flying with LO to take lots of nappies. I think I said before but DS did a poo an hour when we flew to W.I. when he was 4 months. If he does that again and DD does the same then our whole hand luggage is going to consist of nappies. Yay yay yay for weight gain HMM. Hope that gets the early weaners off your back for a while. Thanks for all the talk of slow cookers. I think we might invest as DS likes casserole type things and will actually eat veg like that. Right going to post this and then go to bed. After tidying up, washing up, having a drink, putting on washing blah blah blah. So actually DD will probably have woken for her 10ish feed before I'm done. OH well, good intentions and all that.

CantSleepWontSleep · 19/02/2009 21:42

Jenwa - we are potentially free Sat morning too if you want to meet up! We could meet at Top Barn Farm if you want to check it out .

Mum took dd to Webbs earlier in the week. They've had entertainment on for the kids every day this week.

Think Cripplegate is open as we drove past it the other day and sure there were people there (dad used to play bowls at the green just by it).
I can never spell the other one either!
I know the Crown at Hallow as one of my best friends is in Shrawley, so we sometimes meet up there as a half-way-ish point.
Don't know the art cafe - is that as in the kids can do art there?

loulou - yup, that's about it for blw. Important to remember the difference between choking and gagging though. Gagging helps them to learn. You could try exaggerated chewing yourself in front of ds whilst he has food in his mouth, to try and show him what to do. The only book on the subject is one recently written by Gill Rapley herself. I haven't read it, but understand that it doesn't contain any info that can't be found on Aitch's site, but is good for those who like a book to read/follow.

OP posts:
SmudgeyDoodle · 19/02/2009 21:43

Oh yes, bath toys. DS (2) favourite things are still empty bottles, a car and the new thing is a wash mitt which is a Pooh Bear one and he makes it talk and wave etc. He also loves farting in the bath and watching the bubbles........boys eh?

star6 · 19/02/2009 21:46

smudgey - friend is on road to recovery... still so scared, though - you just never know what's going to happen next
HOW did you teach your LO to settle herself to sleep - how do you put her down awake? If I put Q down awake, he just cries and screams. He usually falls asleep bfing and then needs to have my breast in his mouth for about 5 minutes after he drifts off, then I can safely transfer him to the cot. I want him to learn to settle himself to sleep...
but... I also sort of like putting him to sleep and having him sleep for a short while on me. On weekends, as a treat, I let him nap sleeping on me (and I nap, too!) It's great!!

jenwa · 19/02/2009 22:05

csws art house just the name as its something to do with huntington hall in crown gate, sorry no art there for kids but that would be fun worcs a bit of a let down really on the kid front! Me and my friend are planning on keeping a folder of places to go as we never seem to rmember anywhere!
Unfortuantly My Sis is back from London tomorrow night so stopping here and we are off to see my Gran sat am, she has been very poorly and I went last week on what I thought could have been the last time but she is still here thankfully but I have promised my sis that we can go together as she has not seen her for awhile. If plans change I will let you know, but if you do go there anyway let me know what it is like as will plan to go along.
The pub just past the crown is also very nice (forgotten the name) but they do kids food and nice food too (well last few times we went they did)

Will def let you know if we dont visit my gran sat as would be fab to meet you and your little ones but if not we can do another time. Are you having a nice break? IS it not too stresfull?

I'm with you on the book front Star, we read a Dr Seuss in-utero book to Poppy EVERY SINGLE NIGHT from about 4 months when I was pregnant!!! I still read it to her now, DH and I know it off by heart, we both said it to her tonight after bathtime. I've got There was an old lady who swallowed a fly too, that was my fave when I was little.

Aubergenie, I love Lamaze toys too, Poppy loves this

Thanks all for the links/ ideas. I've spent all evening on Amazon and have £120 worth of stuff in my shopping cart!!! I'm gonna sleep on it before pressing the button I think... that does include a nice padded playmat for the floor at £30 though - here.

There's an NCT nearly new sale in 2 weeks near to us...I should really just wait for that...

Honeymoonmummy · 19/02/2009 22:17

Oh and it sounds like you did the right thing by contacting your other friend Star, I hope your friend understands. I have phases where I really worry that something is going to happen to Poppy, I think it's probably just a new mum thing! Night all!
