But then, doesn't explain why I'm losing weight. I don't feel any thinner, but fitting into clothes taht were snug pre pregnancy and others too big. I know I should be grateful here, but it's just happening all of a sudden quite quickly. My colleagues have been commenting as well (which I can't stand!)

Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2009 13:40

You could maybe do with some carbs in there?

ronshar · 16/02/2009 16:16

Star I dont want to gross you out but the brown vomit might have been over flow. As Q hadnt had a poo for 10 days it is possible that it was coming back up the way it went in.
Yes I know it is horrible to think about but just try to imagine a grown adult bed bound with the same problem I saw toooooo many of those when I was nursing[puke].

We have the same door bouncer we had for DD1 & 2. William loves it but we only put him in for 5 mins max.

Well done MYJOB for brilliant feeding. I bet you are feeling fab about N getting bigger now.

We were in Plymouth for the weekend to visit my sister. William behaved wonderfully.
He has been wakeing up about 5.30am and not going back to sleep. Little monkey!

Sounds very lacking in carbs star, as well as fat, so no wonder you are losing weight. You need a nice big chick pea or veg curry (use coconut milk if you like) with some basmati rice. Or a spanish omelette. Or some pasta with veg sauce. Or a baked potato (with baked beans).

Star ? I?m out in east London, near Essex BUT I?ve just discovered that the Vegetarian Society has updated its website and all of the recipes are now here!! Loads of them are dairy free and, because they run a cookery school, they?ve been tested. I?ve just remembered there?s a lovely (dairy free) dessert called Raspberry Truffle Torte which I?m going to make tomorrow. Yum!

I?ve also lost a lot of weight recently, and am definitely smaller than I was pre-pregnancy. And I?m eating a lot of cake! I agree that it sounds like you?re not eating many calories. I was told that BF burns up approx 500 calories a day. Your milk shouldn?t be affected, but it could take a toll on your own health. As Honeymoon says, maybe you could up the carbs?

aubergenie · 16/02/2009 17:57

x post csws! i'm typing one-handed with sleeping baby on me.

Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2009 17:58

I did wonder if it might have been overflow Ronshar, but I didn't know if that was physically possible..now I do

I want to get a door bouncer too, I think there's a 20 min per day limit on them?

God Pistachio, I just KNOW Poppy is going to do that to me

aubergenie · 16/02/2009 18:51

Pistachio - I remember my nieces doing that! Nightmare.

Thanks for the bouncer info. I'd forgotten that the Amby will take one CSWS, but unfortunately no good for our flat really, as I'd like something to keep ds occupied while I get on with dinner, for example.

Talking of food. I was thinking of getting slow cooker. Partly to save on energy, but also because I can get more done in the mornings so it would be good to get the dinner on then, rather than in the evenings when ds is cranky. Has anyone else got one? If so, do you use it, or it is gathering dust in the back of your cupboard (like my juicer )?

KSal · 16/02/2009 19:13

I use the slow cooker a lot - you can use the cheaper cuts of meat in them and its a piece of cake to just chuck a load of meat and veg in and get a lovely tasty slow cooked meal at the end. I've also started popping dumplings in half an hour before the end when i do beef stew. Also slow cooked meals are good for freezing and often taste better the next day if you make a lot

... can you tell i am a fan of slow cooking?!

star6 · 16/02/2009 19:14

wow aubergenie - brilliant website... passing it over to DH for recipe ideas right now
Thanks!
Ok I've had pasta and vegetables for dinner, but got through half of the bowl before feeling ill. Just feel stuffed. I don't know what it is that's causing this feeling! Lentils/chickpeas a great idea csws - having dh look for recipes like that right now on aubergenie's website. They don't seem quite as heavy - might be a bit better. I bought some dark choc covered hob nobs today since I found out they are dairy free.

Thanks ronshar... and yuck, gross! That is probably what it was. disgusting!

Pistachio I'm sure that happens to everyone! I see it ALL the time when I'm out and about. Now just waiting and dreading the day...

star6 · 16/02/2009 19:17

honeymoon - I know someone who has their ds in the bouncer for a LOT of time every day. I think I must have missed the part of hte conversation where it is said to be bad for them?
I'm too scared and don't trust door frames in our place at the moment (they are result of DIY from DH! ha! ).

hedgepig · 16/02/2009 19:28

Aubergenie I have a slow cooker and it definitely gets much more use than the juicer (that hasn't been out of the cupboard for 3 years ). I must admit when I was working I struggled to get it set up before dashing off to work, it does taste better if you brown the meat and veg 1st but now I'm on maternity leave it is fab. You need a lot less liquid than you would for a normal casserole. I'm please your boobs are feeling better.

Star soups are a great way to incorporate pulses into your diet if you were able to take something like that in for lunch. You (well DH) can make up batches and freeze it in portions to take as you need them.

ronshar · 16/02/2009 19:37

I may be wrong but I think the door bouncers are only recommended for a limited time because they could be strain on the legs/hips. We always fix it so that baby can only just touch the ground so not actually taking their own weight.
But hey we also have always had baby walkers as well. The HV love me. Not one accident or even a near miss. DD2 used to love roaring around the downstairs at our old house. No steps etc to fall down. They are brilliant. I did see a report that a toddler had fallen down the stairs in one. Who with a brain would allow that to happen in the first place?

Trauma in the ronshar house. DD2 has not been given a place in DD1 school. She has been given a school in the opposite direction!!! So much for choice. Stupid Labour govenment. OOO I am so angry I want to cry

ronshar · 16/02/2009 19:39

Star are you able to eat bread? Brown granary is very good for you.

I have just bought a pot for the oven, maybe I should have got a slow cooker. Bugger

hedgepig · 16/02/2009 20:02

ronshar how the flipping heck! do they expect you to get both children to school in the morning? Can you appeal?

pistachio · 16/02/2009 20:15

loulou33 · 16/02/2009 20:43

sorry about the school nightmare ronshar - that's a real bummer. we are really lucky that there are no catchment areas here and we can send our child to pretty much any school within reason - will you be able to appeal, surely having a child at one school already should count for a lot, or is that too logical and sensible???

Star - there are nowhere near enough calories in there for you given you are working, bfing and you get up really early as well don't you?? Maybe try 4/5 smaller meals all with some carbs in, a little at first but then increase the amount. you felt full tonight cause you are not used to eating a lot of carbs so a little at a time for a while. try flapjacks (i know i mention them a lot but they are great enery foods on the run!!)

slow cookers are great and you can just throw veggies and stock in (dairy-fee of course), - whizz when you get home and you've got great soup. i am living on soup when we go out as its about the only dairy free thing i can find. had veggie haggis for tea - it was fab!!!

csws - i was hoping you,as the dairy free queen of mn would have found a decent vegan cheese - i am desperate for a big hunk of cheese!!!!

right off to eat hobnobs as all this talk of food is making me hungry....

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2009 20:47

thank goodness for my new mobile, as the wifi at my parents house has gone doolally this evening, and to sort it out dh needs to run the computer in the room where ds is finally asleep. Typical!

I presume that you checked that dark chocolate hob-nobs are dairy free too star? I've only had the plain ones up to now.

Another slow cooker user here. I love it, although dd won't eat casseroles, which makes it not quite as much use as it should be! She will eat dumplings if I do them though, so aunt bessies tend to get added with half an hour to go.

OP posts:
ronshar · 16/02/2009 21:19

I made a nice cake today. Using MIL recipe. It was fab. So I have to conceed that not everything MIL's do is annoying.

I love dumplings. I am going to have another bit of cake. Too much talk of food.

The school thing is a nightmare. We can appeal. The catchment finishes at the end of our road!!

jenwa · 16/02/2009 21:22

hi sorry not been on for awhile!

star after reading your post re brown vomit I was thinking the same as ronshar said, its faecal fluids! Looked after older people with it like ronshar has too (not faecal fluid but the looking after people ) I worked with older patients on stroke ward when I was doing OT there. It is when your gut is sooo full and you cant pass it normally it comes up in your vomit. So it Q burps it may smell like trumps!

ronshar Sorry about the school probs, thats awful, can you do anything? Can you actually put her name down at the school itself where dd1 is? How stupid though! I do feel for you. tell them to invent a time travelling machine then it may just be possible

Door bouncer and baby walkers here! Not yet but have them. Door bouncer a pain though as never in the right place without being in the way or facing the wrong direction. If I DD1 in the room you could bet I was not in there long enough to have to move her again

DD1 fell downt he stairs today, I had dd2 on my lap and heard a strange noise then saw DD1 at the bottom of the stairs, I felt sooo sorry for her, luckily only afew bumps but she was soooo scared and shaken up. so was i

I was thinking about getting a slow cooker, are they expensive?

DD2 is sooooo lovely at the mo, she is giggling lots and smiles all the time and is soooooooooooo placid. Sleeps well and slots in to the routine and it makes me want more but NO I cant! I need to tighten my tummy and sort myself out. Am the same weight as before but feel bit looser on the belly front!

CSWS sorry did have a chcukle re you saying being nice to each other valentines day! We did make an effort although never got a card did get some nookie though! Trying to make the effort! Been together 12 years and married 7 this year.

aubergenie · 16/02/2009 21:26

Oh Ronshar, that's awful. I do hope you can appeal. What on earth do they expect you to do in the mornings?

Glad you like the web site Star. Now get DH to make you a lovely, healthy bean stew or something!

Thanks for the slow cooker feedback, everyone. I think I'll get a cheapo £12.99 one from Tescos and give it a whirl, then I won't feel so bad if we end up not using it. I was veggie for 20 years, but I now eat fish and chicken, so I might not get as much use out of it as big meat eaters, but I imagine I can make some chicken casseroles, veggie stews, that sort of thing.

SmudgeyDoodle · 16/02/2009 21:29

Evening all. Wow, lots of you sound to be into your slow cooking. I'm quite good at casserole type things but tend to just do them in the oven. Does it really save lots of energy? I'm wary of getting yet another gadget because although we have lots of space in this kitchen, the house is only rented. I'm also impressed with the dairy free ness (even more impressed with people who aren't just living off chocolate ) Star it sounds like you eat more fruit and veg in a day than I do in a week and I thought I didn't do too bad. My problem is that DH isn't keen so I tend not to buy lots as they end up wasted.
We have a door bouncer and DD loves it. DS did like it too but DD definitely a fan. Only problem is though, that I daren't put her in it when DS around because he 'helps' her bounce! We've moved DD out of her moses basket but not sure if she's sleeping any better because I just left her in our bed most of last night as I was too tired. Haven't really recovered from weekend and DH is going away again Wed-Fri. Not sure if that makes it easier or not? Anyone else got an OH who is away lots at the moment? I know CSWS your DH is often away. Anyone else?

Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2009 22:14

Hi, sorry not to reply to other posts but I'm completely whacked and going to bed now. Need some advice folks. We do bath around 7; before that I feed in lounge, finish around 6.30, then after I side-feed on our bed. Tonight and last night I started on the right boob. Both nights she's been really niggly on the right boob but then fed happily on the left side and fallen asleep. Previously she'd always feed on both sides before falling asleep.

Last night we thought it might be wind, gave her gripe water and she brought up a little bit of wind before I tried the left side. Tonight I just swapped her straight to the other side after trying to wind (no wind) and she fed immediately. Any ideas????? Why would she feed on the left side annd not the right??

I've read somewhere that reflux babies prefer to sleep on their left side and she does always sleep on her left side, but when she's feeding on my left boob she's on her right side!!! Confused yet???

No such problems during the day. I'm off to bed anyway, night all, hope you all get a good sleep.

ronshar · 16/02/2009 22:35

I read that babies prefer the left side because they can hear you heart beat and it is a really snuggly comfortable place for them to be.
I always thought it was because my left boob was bigger than my right.
