That pear chair is pretty sexy! I'm going to bed anyway, just in case she wakes up again! Night all!

Morning all! How is everyone today? I'm going to have the luxury of getting my highchair later than you all so you can do all the research then tell me the best ones!

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/02/2009 09:54

We're off to a dedication in a few mins. Have nice day everyone.

Oh, and my new Sains nappies don't always last 12 hours.

aubergenie · 15/02/2009 14:00

Ouch, I woke up this morning with a hard, painful lump in my breast. It did get very engorged in the night and feeding has become a bit sore on that side. I really don't want to get mastitis. Any suggestions ladies? Thanks.

hedgepig · 15/02/2009 14:59

hello everyone I haven't posted for ages I hope you are all well.

I can't believe we are getting into high chair discussions, the time is flying. A comical amount of money but amusing to look at is this here.

aubergenie just saw your post; is it looking red on the surface of the skin? Heat can help you need to keep feeding from the sore boob, with ds1 I found massaging the lump in the shower with a wide toothed comb and some soap for lubrication helped. If you can't get the lump to shift pls go to the drs on Monday for antibiotics. With DS2 (who I couldn't bf in the end and maybe this contributed to it) I had a lump that didn't go & I left it and ended up with a breast abscess, not nice at all.

Honeymoonmummy · 15/02/2009 17:45

I think I read that a warm flannel helps too?

Honeymoonmummy · 15/02/2009 17:46

My those highchairs are niiiice Hedgepig!

star6 · 15/02/2009 18:04

aubergenie I just had mastitis. Best to catch it early. Make sure to feed on that side even if it hurts... breast needs to be completely drained. If baby won't feed that much, then use pump. Also worth just visiting the midwife/breastfeeding counselor/HV for some advice just to make sure it's not already mastitis. Dont mean to be dramatic... just really really stinks to have mastitis and don't wish it on ANYONE. Take care of yourself

star6 · 15/02/2009 18:05

honeymoon - someone fed a little baby chocolate???

loulou33 · 15/02/2009 18:55

star - people feed babies all sorts of things - potatoes and gravy (nice and salty), crisps oooh and that 1970s favourite of farley's rusks!! i can't believe they still sell those things - even the reduced salt and sugar ones are loaded with cr@p. my mother swears by them and weaned her childrne on them - thanks for that!!

joe doing really well and is currently squealing and laughing at dh singing elvis to him in the mirror!!

HOneymoon - paed is wrong about lactose/cows milk protein/dairy etc - there is a clear link between reflux and cows milk intolerance but you're right to try one thing at a time. i am a veggie and have been dairy free for 2 months so its possible, just not much fun.. i don't think its made a huge difference but the sickness this week settled down after i stopped eating some crisps with lactose in (silly cow!) i have the bf necklace with the bells on and they tinkle nice and quietly - i don't use it in the night but i do at bedtime feed to get Joe to concentrate and he still falls asleep!!

Dh and i have been together for 13 years, and we managed to be nice to each other all day too csws - i think that's a real acheivement, particularly if you have had very little sleep - well done.

Honeymoonmummy · 15/02/2009 21:10

Crisps contain lactose too??? Christ!! Yeah, work colleague left baby with grandparents and they gave them choc appaently, and a sip of wine????? Not sure of age but I dont think yet weaned.

I think it was more that paed saying Poppy doesn't display symptoms of lactose intol. O presume possibly cos she's not chesty?

aubergenie · 15/02/2009 21:15

Thanks Hedgepig, Honeymoon and Star, I've been feeding, feeding, feeding all day (fortunately we still seem to be going through the growth spurt. That, or I've just got a really greedy baby) and it does feel much better. It's still very slightly tender so I think I'll see how it is in the morning and go to the doc if it's still sore (The HVs can be a bit hit and miss).

Star, are you over your mastitis now?

Ekka, I really hope things are better for you soon.

Lol at your talk of EC earlier this week. A friend of mine is doing it. Like Cherry, they're using nappies, but their ds has been pooing on the toilet since he was 7 months. HE makes a noise and looks at his mum when he needs to go. I'm thinking of giving it a go too. Saves on potty training later, apparently.

I'm off to bed. Wishing you all good sleep.

CantSleepWontSleep · 15/02/2009 21:27

Only some crisps honeymoon. You'd be amazed what products milk sneaks into - even some ham!

Poppy does display symptoms of milk intolerance though hmm (it's the protein rather than lactose that affects babies) - she is sick and unhappy a lot!

Glad that your breast is feeling a bit better aubergenie. Hope it's fully recovered by morning.

Morning all! Hope you all had a good night's sleep. Poppy does seem to be improving, she's still vomiting but far less than she was on the gaviscon. I'll see what her weight is on Thurs...

star6 · 16/02/2009 10:02

DH is on half term holiday this week, so Q gets to stay home with him... I haven't heard from him yet today. I always hear from my friend who looks after him by now!! I gave him another feed and put him back to bed before I left this morning so hopefully that was a nice long nap for him. Who knows?

Yes, mastitis is mostly gone now aubergenie. Yesterday was first day I didn't feel sick since it started. yuck. It's not pleasant. Just get it sorted asap is my only advice.

I'm dairy free, too. Instead of finding substitutes, I just don't eat when there is something with dairy - it's not working out. I've lost a LOT of weight and now i'm worried about quality of my milk. Not sure if it's better to not get enough food or to keep dairy free. Dairy free is helping Q though.

aubergenie · 16/02/2009 10:33

Star - Do you not you get half term as well? I'm glad your mastitis is improving, but I'm worried about you!! Is there a particular aspect of the dairy free diet that you're finding hard? I did a cookery course at the Vegetarian Society and have a whole folder of veggie recipes, many of which are suitable for vegans (therefore dairy free). I'm more than happy to scan them and email them to you, or photocopy them and pop them in the post if it would help. There are all kinds of things, main courses, salads, puddings, cakes etc.

Of course, it may just be that you don't have time to prepare food (I know I find it hard), in which case, none of that would help you.

My boob is much better today so hopefully it was just a blip.

aubergenie · 16/02/2009 10:36

Oh, are those door bouncer things frowned upon? I'd quite like another way for ds to amuse himself, but I don't know whether they're bad for babies. Does anyone know?

I tried to do a search and although it returns lots of messages, I can only see the first page.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2009 10:57

aubergenie - door bouncers not great for them but as long as they aren't in them for hours then I wouldn't worry. We had one for dd. Don't forget that you can get one that attaches to your amby if you prefer.

Star - your milk won't suffer from you not eating enough - just you! I would def get some butter sub for sandwiches and such. Can you talk us through what you would eat in a typical day?

OP posts:
loulou33 · 16/02/2009 11:10

we had a door bouncer for ds1 and i think they are fine as long as you limit the amount of time they are in them (the same with everything i guess) i must dig our out, god knows where it is.

star - you do need to eat pleanty particularly if you are still anaemic as the two combined will make you very tired and lethargic. i have been snakcing on apricots and fritu far more as the biscuits are off limits and this helps me stave off humger sometimes - it is a pain not eating dairy when you are out but at home should be easier... you can adapt most recipes to vegan - its only the vegan cheese that's vile and i've yet to find one that is vaguely like cheese - any joy csws??

honey - no not all crisps have lactose in but i forgot to check these and ate loads before i realised - doh. milk protein intolerance has a variety of symptoms like vomiting, colic, irritability, diarrhoea, constipation etc etc etc and each person varies in their level of intolerance and symptoms. Joe is not so bad as he can tolerate some milk protein (never suffered any ill effects form formula a few weeks ago ) but too much cheese makes him colicky but others are more affected - like Duncan by the sounds of it. it might be worth trying for a few weeks once the meds have settled as it were.

CantSleepWontSleep · 16/02/2009 11:38

no loulou - afraid that all cheese is vile!
Some biscuits are ok though - bourbons, fruit shortcake, hob-nobs and some rich teas are all dairy free.

OP posts:
Honeymoonmummy · 16/02/2009 12:22

Oh poo it would be a complete nightmare for me. I dislike most fruit, veg and salad, you see.... I know, i'm a weird veggie!!! I'm no expert but I'd be concerned about losing too much weight Star.

star6 · 16/02/2009 12:28

ooooh hob nobs are dairy free?? Yeah!!
Aubergenie - I had half term holiday last week Didn't feel like a holiday, though with sightseeing and entertaining grandparents each day - was sad to see them go, though.

Ok a walk through what I ate yesterday -
breakfast - banana, orange juice snack mange toute and sugar snap peas (quite a few) with some chopped up orange bell pepper and orange juice, lunch - cherry tomatoes, quinoa, pak choi, spinach asparagus, leek, courgette (all mixed together and cooked of course) - with a bit of soy sauce and orange juice. Snack - grapes and 2 clementines and mango juice. Dinner - I couldn't find anything appetizing and dairy free and then thought about spinach - drank some mango juice and water and went to sleep feeding Q. Actually that does seem like a lot of food, minus the absence of dinner. I guess I'm just feeling more hungry without the dairy?

Aubergenie where are you located? I don't want you to go out of your way - maybe I could come get and photocopy some recipes from you - I don't often cook but DH cooks every day and will cook whatever I ask.
