Thanks Aubergenie. How are you feeling today?

Honeymoonmummy · 11/02/2009 09:46

X-posts Loulou! Thanks. Oh I'm soooo exited about yoga today! Just hope she doesn't vomit everywhere, it could be bad for the chakras...

Yes it's hard work carrying my chunky monkey around. I might win the award for most weight gained, as ds was a good bit lighter than pistachio's at birth .

Aubergenie - mothers eh?! Bet she'd get on well with Claire Verity . Actually my mil is much the same - she used to stick ds in a pram outside and let him get on with it. And my mum left me to scream so much that the neighbours used to ask if I was ok.

Took ds to the doctor this morning to check whether he has an ear infection, as there was much ear pulling and crying overnight. He doesn't, so I presume it's teeth bothering him. His poo is still peculiar, but maybe it's just a natural progression for him and it will remain like this. Time will tell!

Hmmmm, so much chat since I was last on here!

Star - really hoping that you are feeling better & the mastitus is clearing up so you can enjoy your visitors.

honeymoon - hope your yoga class is great. Its something I've meant to do with both of mine but never quite got round to it.

CSWS - ear infection, maybe I should ask the docs about that. We're all still full of colds etc here & I've had a killer sore throat for days. Ds is upset & really pulling his ears & rubbing theside of his face but I'd forgotten about ear infections as a possible cause... Or it might just be his eczema & ongoing cold. I'm giving up dairy starting today (have bought some 'pure' spread & that oat milk) so we'll give it a couple of weeks & see. I'm torn though, 99% of me really wants it to work so he feels better, but there's that little voice in the back of my mind saying I hope it doesn't as it'll be a PITA being dairy free . My mum isn't going to be happy - we're visting them next week so catering for me is going to be interesting. I presume I need to avoid anything with milk/butter/marg/milk powder/lactose/milk proteins in, but are there any other things I should watch out for. (I'm missing dairy milk chocolate already....)

Weight gain here has slowed ds is now 13lb 8oz (7oz gain over 2 weeks) but he's doing ok & our HV is happy. Myjob - you need a HV like her, she's really great, supportive of bf & really tries to help you with whatever parenting strategies you follow

Weaning here is going to be as near 6-mths as possible (dd grabbed some garlic bread off my plate & sucked happily away at it aged 5 1/2 months so I took that as a sign she was ready! Though I wouldn't recommend it as agood starter food - her nappy was really smelly ) But I doubt I'll manage blw, I'm not too good with the gagging & spluttering with finger foods, so I do purees then on to finger foods + mush.

wow, what an epic post, sorry ladies! I blame it on the fact we're off to my parents on Monday after ds' 3rd set of jabs, & I'll be without mn for nearly 2 weeks

Honeymoonmummy · 11/02/2009 14:44

I'm back from yoga. Poppy (she who rarely sleeps during the day) slept thro the whole thing! Humph!

pepperrabbit · 11/02/2009 19:04

But did you enjoy it honeymoonmummy?
Sounds quite relaxing!
We had a breakthrough with DS2today - he's nearly 3 (early April) and has shown no signs of being reqdy for potty training for ages, but after an horrific nappy this morning (humous related...) where I hosed him down in the shower and then had to bleach it... he did a wee on the potty!!!!!
This did mean I had to let him eat the whole chocolate Santa I'd promised, just before lunch, but I think it was worth it!

Marthasmama · 11/02/2009 19:08

Pepper - My DS didn't use the potty until he was nearly three. We tried and tried, got his very stressed out athen gave up and decided he'd do it when he was ready. He went to an excellent nursery and when his best mate went to the toilet they got him to go too. He cried but he did it and from that moment on, the nappies were gone. We've only had two accidents (both poo related!) since then and he's 5.5 now.

Martha had her final jabs today and has been ok on the whole. She is getting very grumpy now but she could be tired. She doesn't seem to want to be held by me today, she prefers sitting with her Daddy and smiling at me instead!

Honeymoonmummy · 11/02/2009 19:20

Not really. I felt a bit of a lemon being the only one doing it without a baby!!!

Was it Myjob who mentioned that Naomi is always getting distracted whilst feeding? Have you (or anyone) tried a bf ing necklace?

Honeymoonmummy · 11/02/2009 19:23

Sorry Pepper, I meant to say congrats re potty training!! I think u deserve some chocolate yourself!!

Awww MM, Poppy isn't showing any preference between DH and I...yet.

Marthasmama · 11/02/2009 19:40

Honeymoon - It's ok if she likes DH, our DS HATED his daddy. He wouldn't even let DH touch him and he regularly says that he loves daddy, but loves mummy the most & . It's only fair if she is a Daddy's girl!

Poppy hasn't been sick AT ALL since early afternoon

aubergenie · 11/02/2009 21:05

Well done Pepper! It's lovely to have a breakthrough isn't it.

Honeymoon - Lol at the thought of you at baby yoga without a baby! Great news that dd slept though. Do you think her meds might be working already, or do you think she was just tired and relaxed?

We went to the parent and baby cinema again today in the new sling. It's now got a very damp patch on both sides where ds has been sucking on it. Does anyone know whether I can buy anything to clip on the edge of the sling that ds could suck on instead. It might be easier than having to wash the whole thing all the time.

I was thinking of getting breastfeeding necklace too Honeymoon. Ds is now very distracted and it could give him something to focus on. Anyone already gone one?

aubergenie · 11/02/2009 21:08

Oh, and does anyone use terry nappies? I've got some (and I'm getting some pre-folds too) but I'm a bit rubbish with them. Can anyone recommend an easy fold for a boy who wees a lot?

Ekka · 11/02/2009 21:17

I have a bf necklace, but dd seemed more interested in eating it than feeding (unless she was really hungry). Mind you, I may dig it out & try with ds....

I have a bf necklace . Doesn't totally stop ds from being distracted, but if he starts mauling or pinching me then I tend to shove it in his hand instead, and it does help.

Yay for no sick hmm. And a little lol at baby yoga with no baby.

Eek at Naomi being awake all day. Hate to think how unsettled ds would be in that situation! He has had 5 napettes today!

Ds developed slightly pink cheeks this afternoon too, so I think it must be teeth that are bothering him. Have tried him with some nurofen instead of calpol tonight, to see if it helps any better. It was our teething medication of choice with dd.

Well done to your ds2 pepper. Most of the boys I know haven't potty trained until nearly/after turning 3. I have no idea why boys are later doing it, but it almost always seems to be the case that they are.

Ekka - cheese obviously and whey and casein. Most packaged stuff has a 'contains' section which lists the major allergens, but occasionally I have found stuff that doesn't list milk, even though it contains it (the new Innocent meals in a pot are guilty of this). Always ask if you are going out to eat, and check websites for chains first as some list the info on there. We went to a Toby Carvery on Sunday, thinking that that would be a good dairy free option, only to find that all of their veggies have a butter glaze on them! Thankfully they cooked me a plate of them separately without the glaze.

I got a new mobile phone today, so am going to spend a few mins playing with it and then go off to bed, as I am utterly exhausted, and am on day 6 of a nasty headache.

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 11/02/2009 21:39

Oh, and don't use teething powders if you are dairy free, as they are all in a lactose base!

POppy is asleep and no vomit. Surely it can't work that quickly???? I'm off to bed anyway, night. Hope u feel better soon CSWS.

There is a local group near us that meet regularly and people can look at the nappies, I think its called the Real Nappies group? If you dont find it on google I'll try to find the leaflet. Also, I dont know about your local authority but ours offer a free 30 day trial of reusable nappies with laundering service - completely free! I'm hoping to try it once i get a bit more settled.

I cant remeber who asked but I have a Mama & Papas high chair which was DD2s. It folds closed and is really compact but when it is open it is quite big. It has a big back so very supportive and can recline back a bit if baby falls asleep. Which Dd2 did quite frequently! Cant remember the name but will have a look.

Anybody who seems to have a teething baby, have you noticed a spotty rash around their chin and neck? William seems to have a little rash which comes and goes according to how much of his hands/arms he has crammed into his mouth!

Honeymoon. How does yoga with a baby work? I have a picture of you standing with your arms streched to the ceiling with your baby in your hands I happy that your meds are working. No more vomit (yipee)

Has anyone seen AJM and Sambrads. They have'nt been on for a really long time. I hope they are both ok????

Just popping in really, not sure I have the energy to reply to all the different posts. Will have to have a look at getting a nursing necklace - I had read about them before and thought they sounded cool! Now not sure whether to get a fun plasticky one or a nice dressy one. Maybe I should get two... I am definitely going to one Christening and one Wedding this year at least...

Also CSWS I know you were joking, but we are sort of doing EC! Not taking it very seriously but I did order a little potty from ebay which came today as I often notice just before Ryan starts pooing and would rather rinse out a potty than clean it off his bum/willy/halfway up his back! Still using nappies though, I'm not quite that hardcore!

Honeymoon we have a local nappy thing like that, it's called nappuccinos (I think because they run it like a coffee morning). Have just had a look and their info is on our council website so that may be somewhere to look.
