New home!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Essie3 · 11/02/2009 13:09

Sponge the OP on that thread deserves to have all her milk dried up and her baby will cry for 12 hours solid. Totally agree with Aberdeen - the difference is tiny.
I'm assuming you're not giving your son Condensed Milk, though? That's tinned junk, right?

I was going to post, and then they'd all attack, and I'd say ha, but I'm still bfing and did so exclusively but (a) I failed, as I caved in 6 days before he was 6 months old and (b) BLW has been thrown into the mix and I would be forced to flounce again...

goingtohaveagoodnightssleep · 11/02/2009 13:09

I just caught up from yesterday and have forgotten most of it!

Essie DS will only bf when he wants it, if he doesn't he just pulls away. Totally unlike DD2 who was happy to suck all day and night!

Feeling exhausted though I did spend some time at the spa after the gym this morning and I really should do some housework as DS is sleeping.

neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 13:26

Just had to read 10 pages to catch up! Far too many so have really skimmed... but thanks Rolf for message about Gran - she is deteriating rapidly, docs think she will probably go today but it is a blessing.

The twins baptism was sunday and it was great. All over too quick tho and I never got a single pic, I am going to dress them up in their outfits again when they are washed to get some pics.

Essie, you are fab! Love it that you don't lie awake at night worrying about Iestyn and nursery - you know your own mind and that is great! I think Iestyn will benefit from your attitude too.

Theo and Esther are sleeping OK at the mo but we usually have one wake-up from each of them each night. If I am lucky they are both at the start of the night (like last night - 10.30 and 12.40 then they slept till 7am) or the end (4.30am and 6.30am sometimes).

Definitely teeth bothering them at the mo - someone asked about being unsettled in the evneings. Theo has been waking at 8pm ish but I have given him calpol at 6pm last two nights and he has not woken.

Whinegums, I saw your mini-rant and just thought I'd say I felt the same way a few weeks ago when it seemed everything I said was either taken in offence or just ignored but I don't think anyone on here means to do that, sometimes there are too many posts and when you read them all you forget what you wanted to say.

neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 13:38

Rolf if you are reading - do the courts take a summer break? This is DH's first year as a HCA and he thinks there might be a break in the summer. Is that right? Do you know when it is? We will go away then if there is one.

PILs are trying to invite themselves on our summer holiday again . Last year DH accidentally invited them (it came out of his mouth before he realised what he was saying!) so they came for a few days and stayed on our campsite. It was really nice actually, they babysat so we could go for a meal and made our tea for us one night, and they were talking about all DH's family (sister, brother, nephews etc) going away together this year, but we made it clear that our 2-week break was time just for us and in future we'd be going away just us 4. So no I am a bit that MIL keeps saying to me 'let us know when you are going on you holiday and we'll hook up with you for a few nights'. DH is too.

neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 13:40

Ooh there were lots of s in that last post!

Aberdeen, I think that is so sensible what you said about ff/bf and then what we feed ourselves on for rest of our lives.

Essie3 · 11/02/2009 14:06

Hi Neenz! I got no photos from Iestyn's baptism either - it was all too hectic.

Some courts do have a summer break - High Court and Crown Courts, but others carry on. Depends if his work is all High/Crown court.

Was talking about you today - in fact, looking at a photo of you! Someone came with twins to the bfing clinic this morning, and Sharon got out your tandem feeding photo to show her. Curiously, the woman lives just down the road from me, and has the same name as me...spooky... Her twins are 9 weeks old, Guto and Ellyw. Gorgeous too.

neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 14:16

Aw, that's sweet Essie!

DH does all his work in the crown court... do you know how I'd find out when the break is? He is a bit rubbish on this sort of thing, I could be waiting till July for him to ask!

If you see your twin mum again maybe it's worth mentioning that I found tandem feeding pretty impossible until the DTs were quite old (4mths or so IIRC). At 4mo they just latched on whenever they were near the nipple whereas when they were younger they needed more attention so i always fed them separately. I don;t want her to see that pic and think it looks easy and wonder why she is finding it so difficult cos it was difficult!! Lovely names, is Ellyw pronounced Ellie?

pleasechange · 11/02/2009 14:16

sponge can't believe some of the posters on that thread . Why do people have to be so judgemental, I mean 'tinned juck' - WTF?

DH brought A into town to meet me for lunch today, which was lovely. I just wanted to go home with them though!

Essie3 · 11/02/2009 15:15

Yeah, allnew - I'm really angry about the 'tinned junk'. It's wrong, and it's not fair. Oh, and it's sanctimonious (my fave word at the mo). I also think it's important that people like Sponge who wanted to bf and couldn't speak up and make it quite clear that this is unfair and plain rude. Everyone I know who has tried and not managed to bf really tried properly, and desperately wanted to do the best thing for their baby. And in fact everyone who I know who didn't manage or stopped bfing after a short while did - are - doing the best for their baby in ff. Alex would be very sick indeed; Edie would have a depressed and ill mother in a lot of pain, being lanced regularly and at high risk of infection... (sorry, I've named and shamed there ). FF isn't junk, it's highly researched, scientifically made, and does more good than harm. If you're lazy/don't care/whatever surely the easy alternative to bf is to fill your baby's bottle with cow's milk. Or Marvel!
The OP was a stupid fuckwit with a pointless argument anyway. The whole post was a total waste of time, and I was annoyed at all the people saying she should complain as well. Get a grip!

Phew, rant over! Neenz I thought google would work, and indeed it has - legal year term dates.
Sharon was wisely telling the girl to carry on as she is doing, so we didn't get any tandem demonstrations (alas). But I accidentally totally depressed the mother by proudly stating that Iestyn slept through for the first time on Monday. She asked how old he is, and said, what, this Monday was the first time?! Oops...
Ellyw - no idea what it means but it's pretty. No, not like Ellie - Welsh is phonetic (only funny if you know how to pronounce each letter!). It's hard to say - the ll is the famous Welsh sound where you gently place your tongue on the roof of your mouth just behind your teeth, loosely, and blow through the side. But that aside, the name would rhyme with lieu, as in 'in lieu of'.
I really liked that name until just now!

neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 15:39

Thanks Essie, I rang the crown court in Liverpool and they said no decision had been made yet for this year . They said ring back in March! LOL at telling the twin mum that Iestyn only just slept through for the first time (well done BTW!!). You can tell her T and E slept through at 11 and 13 weeks [boast] thanks to Gina Ford mainly.

So Ellyw is pronounce eckloo?

abdnhiker · 11/02/2009 16:29

neenz sorry to hear about your Gran, I hope everyone in the family is coping okay and that your Gran is as comfortable as possible.

Fraser's got another tooth! One of the top ones! So in people's experience, does that mean he'll probably be okay without Calpol tonight or does the pain continue for a few more nights?

essie cow's milk? wasn't it IrnBru that was appearing in some baby bottles for the under 1 set?

And I think the OP was just trying to make herself feel superior. I got told by the GP to give Fraser formula when his growth first slowed down but that's just because the GP didn't understand breastfeeding and doesn't make me superior at all.

abdnhiker · 11/02/2009 16:54

hmm, it's not clear what I mean it to say there - basically I mean that I've been in the same situation as the OP and had a totally different response!

poppy34 · 11/02/2009 18:06

ah or rolf what is a trip trap/baby dan? not that I need more babytat kit as edie now quite happy in her ikea highchair.

essie can I borrow you to fight my corner when I need it back at work? very well said - and my therapist (god that sounds mad/american) gets incensed about this as seems to be something that isn't uncommon (ie poor women being made to feel worse when take decision FOR WHATEVER reason to ff).

sponge I wish I could hide that whole frigging topic (I'm not sure which thread you're talking about but there are so bloody many) but sometimes can't help myself (you're the same) -fucking badgers (sorry to swear) some of em are... how lovely it must be to know you're right - and there was me thinking only the pope claimed to be infallible. Remember you're a fab mum and a is just gorgeous -how you feeling now-did you get a nice sleep?

neenz glad christening went well - but so sorry about your gran anat your mil..that is a bit thick skinned not to take the hint!!?

vegging out after nice lunch out (edie seems to be keen to blw as was grabbing all sorts of stuff off our plates and really enjoyed it) - off to france tomorrow. I sincerely hope its not another six hour eurostar journey or bad mama will be making full use of the various kid shows I've got on my itouch...

abdnhiker · 11/02/2009 18:43

poppy they are highchairs that you pull up to the table and then turn into booster seats and finally adult chairs - but at this age they are basically fancy versions of the ikea white one that you see everywhere. Not sure if that's what you have. baby dan link. Have fun in France!

AliandHerScallywag · 11/02/2009 19:08

The "teething" temperature now seems to have become a stinky cold (as well as the temperature), but it seems to come and go. When there have been visitors today we had a smiley happy child, once they left misery quickly returned. Anyway he is v hot on me ATM. With babies and fevers do people wrap them up or put fewer layers on? I do the latter on the basis that they can't sweat like adults, but DH disagrees so I am confused. Sponge - if A gets this I am v v sorry...

Following the rest of the thread but feeling a bit weary for replying, so hello to you all

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/02/2009 19:34

Just booked our tickets to go to Germany. It is costing us a grand total of £29.02 return as opposed to £600+ to fly, and hour from DH's brother to Dover and 4 and a half hours from Dunkirk to Herford.

poppy34 · 11/02/2009 19:35

dunno - I kept edie in layers and sponged her down when necessary - also liberal use of calpol/"neenz juice" (aka medised). Poor P...

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/02/2009 19:57

Fewer layers, or just bappy and cool baths to keep temp down, you can also do calpol then 3 hours later nurofen and then 3 hours later calpol etc.

poppy34 · 11/02/2009 20:00

sorry 5 great news re germany -now you're an old hand (so to speak) ... what are the rules (or otherwise) if you go to US re taking formula etc (I know what the deal is about going through airport here but dh dimly remembers us customs being sniffy about taking carton in for baby when big kids were small).

pureeandpearls · 11/02/2009 20:05

Ali- when babypearls had that big temp I put on fewer layers and gave regular nurofen and checked neurotically regularly . ((((Big hug sweetie)))

PiggyPenguin · 11/02/2009 20:13

Ali - definitely fewer layers. If the temperature does start to rise then a bath is a really good way of bringing it down, and most babies like splashing around. Not James, who bizarrely hates to be in water even though he was a water birth. The poor lad is still traumatised by it all obviously.

spongebrainbigpants · 11/02/2009 20:38

Ohmigod, I've had a post deleted by MN . I truly am not proud of myself for my outburst, I'm on my knees with exhaustion and pre-menstrual, but tbh I don't regret saying it to her - what a smug, vile woman.

Do you think she ever runs out of oxygen on her moral high ground?

AH, I know I should stay away - and I never go in the bf forum anymore by choice, but this was on active convos so I wandered in by accident. I was soooooo angry at her comment but reacted in a way that was v out of character for me cos I normally hate people being rude behind the anonymity of cyberspace.

Anyway, think I need to spend less time on MN so a lesson learnt.

Neenz so sorry to hear about your nan. Hope she's not in any pain.

As for your in-laws - ohmigod!

Ali, poor P - Alex seems fine but if he gets it he gets it! Hope you can get his temp down.

5, fantastic price for your trip - what a bargain!

Essie, condensed milk is what A has been on since two weeks old. Is that wrong?

OP posts:
poppy34 · 11/02/2009 20:39

personally I prefer to mix condensed milk, fruit shoots and gin into edie's bottles -tut tut sponge you're clearly harming your baby

I'll send edie to punishment vomit some tinned junk on her. she'll probably be wearing something home crafted/in macrame while she drinks her fenugreek tea so think how hard the pv will be to get out...

spongebrainbigpants · 11/02/2009 20:46

Lol poppy!! I think AH suggested Irnbru - sounds like a winner to me!

And to think I was going to flounce from MN today - what would I do without you all?!

OP posts:
neenztwinz · 11/02/2009 20:47

LOL - I was going to post about Fruit Shoots too .

Sponge, I saw your message had been deleted even though others seemed to agree with you. Which MNer were you aiming it at (I didn't get there before it was deleted unfortunately!)

Re high temps, do you have thermometers or just go off their forehead or what? How do you know if they have a high temp?
