Great questionaire I just had to do! Very theraputic, and good to see everyones answers! Hope nights are better for all the none sleepers, we have that here to this week too! x

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 21:28

whinegums, I think you're probably right about Hatesponge, although I have a sneaking suspicion it might be Essie - you know how much she hates us ff/BLW types!! (In fact, am I the only ff/BLW type?! Apparently, according to another forum most ff mums don't do BLW cos, the fact that they ff their babies means that they couldn't give a crap what the give them! Great, insulting ff mums and puree mums in one fell swoop!).

Oh, Essie, despite popular belief you can't actually force a bottle fed baby to take more milk either - if they don't want it they don't take it. Wilful little buggers!

Oh and my tummy pain wasn't periods, don't know what it was. Had it on and off for a couple of weeks now but it's getting worse and last night was horrendous. The pain was excruciating .

Mooocow, the fact that you haven't been to the cinema for six years makes me feel so much better!!

Just had a nightmare bedtime which has made me feel like a completely crap mother . Alex wouldn't eat anything at tea time (was trying to spoon feed as short of time) but refused completely (mouth sealed shut, turning away, spitting out anything I did get in), all I could get into him was a dessert .

Got him ready for bed, he then refused his bottle, pushed it away, etc. Held him for a while, rocked him, put him in his cot, he screamed, took him out, tried to feed him again, etc, etc. This went on four about half an hour with his screams getting more and more urgent . Dh got home at 7.45pm, came upstairs, took Alex, fed him, cuddled him and put him straight to sleep .

How crap am I?

OP posts:
abdnhiker · 10/02/2009 21:37

sponge not crap at al. DS1 refused to give me a kiss before bed and then ran away cackling with glee. DH had to force him to say sorry for being mean. Anyways, even though Alex is younger, I think they start playing with your mind from birth.

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 21:42

Thanks AH, , just felt so rejected . Good to know it just gets worse as they older!

ahedgehogisHibernating · 10/02/2009 21:44

I so cannot keep up now I am back at work but a couple of things

sbbp getting Bumgenius V2 from the classifieds for my CM as she loves the one I already have and my modern baby, but they didn't have any there at the moment.

essie my crying when I leave Isaac at the CM is more to do with the fact that I have to go to work which I am really not enjoying at the moment rather than having to leave him

Am very annoyed with my sky plus at the moment things are not recording properly so I am getting frozen screens and other such annoyances [grrr]

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 21:47

HH, I love BG! Why V2 and not V3 though?

OP posts:
libralady · 10/02/2009 21:50

Thanks to those who missed me. Sorry I just don;t have the time to post now. I do try to skim read the thread but only really manage about once a week and by the time I've caught up I've run out of time to post.

Work is crap and I hate it. TBH, I can't wait to leave now. I am now wearing 3 hats and only getting paid for the one. God knows how they are going to cope when they lose half the UK staff (not meaning to sound like I am indispensible) but I'm sure it would not be expected of the staff overseas.

Oh and Luke finally cut his first tooth today which was such a surprise as we've had none of the usual preludes to teething.

Essie keep me posted about the weather in Snowdonia. We're coming up for 1/2 term week next week and are already replanning the way we get there as I think our usual route is going to be hampered by snow and flood water. Not even sure if we'll be able to get over the Severn Bridge!

abdnhiker · 10/02/2009 21:52

hugs libra, thanks for dropping by, we miss you. Sorry work is crap.

I'm off to bed now - for another night of co-sleeping I fear...

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 22:05

Libra, sorry work is so crap, brill news on Luke's tooth, esp as he hasn't suffered for it.

On a positive note, I have found a childminder. She is lovely and perfect for Alex. She only takes pre-schoolers too, so no school runs to worry about!

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:11

Sponge -you are not a crap Mum, don't know why babies do it but they do at times, and it was probably just timing that meant your dh could feed him and get him to bed, he'd had enough by then and just gave in, he wasn't waiting for daddy.Don't beat yourself up about it, please.

Libra - sorry work is so bad

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 22:12

Oh, yeah - you're Penmachno or somewhere in that vicinity, right Libra? (Can't remember exactly where now.) We could meet up! Also Dorset which explains the Severn bridge - I was going to say 'don't come that way'! Although could you come up the M5 and not cross into the Good Country until later, maybe Shrewsbury? (Or was the Severn bridge the second option?)
Weather here is not too bad at all. It's cold, but the big snow has passed. Mind you, Anglesey isn't typical as we're usually warmer (and drier) than the mainland, and Snowdonia is a whole different kettle of fish. Schools have been open all week but they were closed all last week in Caernarfonshire.

Sponge we had the same attempt at spoonfeeding tonight. Iestyn has been quite bad at supper time the last few days and would only have fruit puree. He talks with his mouth jammed shut! But he does eat a good lunch - spoonfeeding can be a bit hit and miss as well. I wasn't thinking you were able to force feed Alex! I was wondering if other babies might just take the breast for the hell of it, hungry or not? Iestyn won't have it in his mouth. So how you get him to 'take more milk' is beyond me. My 'attacker' wasn't bfing anyway. In fact, there was a discussion on there that lots of the BLW mums were ff (I objected to the use of 'failed' with bfing). Um, it was intelligent but I was too hurt to concentrate - Neenz might remember... was it BLW is like demand feeding which you do with bfing, where the baby leads, and so BLW is like bfing in that the baby is leading. (I've clearly had enough of Iestyn being in charge - I've lost on the bfing (rightly so - he leads there), sleeping, taking a bottle, and he only poos when I take his nappy off. It's stopped being a coincidence now and I'm convinced he saves it. Wilful.)

Thanks to everyone for making me feel better about my guilt issues! I totally agree with 5GoMad (and everyone else who said similar things) that I need the time out. And yes, I do love my job - it's more than just a job for me. I wouldn't say having a baby was my greatest achievement either (I know people who do) because he's himself; my D.Phil is, because girls like me don't get into Oxford!

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:12

CM sounds great Sponge, what a relief for you to have childcare sorted out.

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:16

Ethan never eats well at teatime, it's always hit and miss, but lunch is usually OK. Still prefers fruit based stuff than veg and meat.

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 22:18

HH also meant to say that I now realise my whinge looked like I was pointing the finger at you, when in fact I was being melodramatic and failed to notice that you had just said that the last time you cried was leaving Isaac at the CM. I am sorry - see what I said about being insensitive? It wasn't meant to be singling you out. I'm sorry your job isn't so great - I had a bad time at my previous department (oh, have I mentioned that ) and being unhappy at work really brings you down in every part of your life. It works vice versa too though.

Now back to my totally miserable film about the Magdalene Sisters. Eternally grateful to the sheer luck that meant that my grandmother had the means to avoid such places.

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 22:24

Deb, thank you and yes, being sorted with the childcare is such a relief. Dh came with me to meet the CM and we both felt really happy with her straight away. Someone I know in RL also uses her (only found out when I saw her son there!), so that also makes me feel reassured.

Essie, lol at Iestyn pooing when he doesn't have a nappy on! Surely that saves on the washing - or does he manage to make an even bigger mess without the nappy on!

As for the ff/bf thing, that's one of the things I don't understand - why do people on the bf forums assume that all ff babies are fed to a routine whereas bf babies are demand fed (although I got told of for using the word demand!). The only NCT mum I know who is still exclusively bf-ing feeds her LO to a routine whereas A has always had his bottle as and when he wants it! (Partly cos I'm a spontaneous kind of gal who just doesn't do routine - hence why I have a baby who doesn't do daytime naps! ).

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:27

Sponge - hell nap in the day tomorrow - surely!!

DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:27

he'll even, not hell

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 22:35

Deb, I wouldn't put any money on that if I were you!! When he was little he would regularly for for 12 hours without a nap, and then he would sleep through the night - hmm, is there a connection!?

OP posts:
spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 22:36

'go for 12 hours' I meant!

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:37

You'd better get off to bed then, it might be a 12 hour sleep - make the most of it

spongebrainbigpants · 10/02/2009 22:38

True Deb!! That's always my problem - I go to bed too late!

Nite nite mum xxx

OP posts:
DebInAustria · 10/02/2009 22:40

n night, I must go too, we're an hour ahead.

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 22:48

Hadn't thought of that, Sponge - because you can do Gina Ford and bf, and that's routine. I'm being a bit ignorant really and I try to be supportive of ff but stupidity isn't helpful so maybe I should shut up.
My issue - and I've thought it through a bit more really after your post on force feeding formula (or boob!) - was this. I chose purees because Iestyn is very small and I've had nothing but grief about this from, well, passers by in the street even! (Really.) So I can't afford him losing weight, and I can't afford to let him lead with weaning, because frankly he'd chuck most of his food on the floor and would be very happy but not weaned. So I'm not against BLW - I have seen Ali's Peter eat, and he actually eats, unlike Iestyn. Anyhow, this came up, so I was defending this - BLW is not for every baby, and Iestyn, I think, is a case in point; but then I kept being told to feed him more milk because all his nutrition should come from milk until he's one. Well, true, but how do I feed him more milk? He was then on 3-hourly feeds, and whilst I could feed him every two hours, he either wouldn't latch at all, only muck around; or manage some and throw it up!
But it wasn't me being an idiot, then - you can't force a baby to take more milk from a breast or a bottle.

Back to the poo, though - yes less mess, and this is only since he's on solids. But I swear he's holding it in. I might buy a potty.

Essie3 · 10/02/2009 22:49

Look at me still up - bet I won't get a full night's sleep tonight. Better go...
