Wilkie - congrats on the blue

Shimmer - glad you're enjoying it, sounds totally exhausting

Raisin/eandh - ditto on sleep deprivation. Am shattered. And have so much less patience when shattered

Who was asking about milk? I don't intend to swap mine over to semi skimmed any time soon TBH. I admit I am totally anal about what they eat and drink, but as far as milk is concerned, I feel they are 2 healthy and very active kids in no danger of obesity. I think at this age they need calories, especially since I'm so anal about what they eat otherwise !

We had a burst water main here, which was a PITA as these things are. The whole mains pipe is rusted to hell. But the complete donkey who had the house before us built an extension over the water main, so if we decided to replace the whole pipe to prevent more bursts (or if we don't replace it and wait until it does burst again) we would have to dig up the floor and remove half of the kitchen to reach it . This is the same twat as did DIY plumbing and electrics which left us with an enormous leak in an unearthed house

Rgee poor p hope she is better.

Been to a funeral today very sad, it was one of our friends she was 57 and passed with stomach cancer. She had to girls 36 and 30 . The bit that really got to me is that I thought one day my children will have to do this for me its horrible sob sob sob....

On that depressing note im going to have a ice cream ......

Wilkiepedia · 06/04/2009 16:53

Big hugs to all that need them (( ))

Quicky from me - internet down at home at mo . Spent yesterday afternoon at A&E as J decided to shove a green tic tac RIGHT up his nostril as it 'looked like a bogey'. It then wedged up there as I couldn't get it out, his nose was running green dye out of it from the tic tact so we rushed him up to A&E. 40 mins (!!) into a 3 hour (!!!!) wait I managed to get him to blow out of his nostril (surprisingly difficult for a 2 year old to grasp the concept) and it shot out onto the waiting room floor so we went home.

Nightmare!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2Happy · 06/04/2009 18:35

Oh no! Looked like a bogey, well you can't fault his logic! BTW have you ever heard of "mother's kiss"? If lo's get something stuck up a nostril, put your mouth over theirs and do a quick hard blow (if they'll let you). Sometimes works...

Lal You never want your kids to go before you, but that's too young isn't it.

Ummm cant remember who else has posted now - only news here is brother and his fiancee have split up properly shes put a deposit down on a flat and moving out next week, my brotehr still havinh her son once a week as he doesnt want to upset him by cutting all contact but possibly this is the best thing for them as they havent been happy and thankfully the house is all in my brothers name and he can afford to keep it going on his salary

vinorouge · 07/04/2009 21:30

Hello all

Life busy as usual in the vino household although I haven't been very well this week. Maybe a bug from Ellen - felt really weak, hot and cold, no appetite and banging headache. I should have come home from work yest but didn't, ended up crying at my desk cos my head hurt so much and someone asked me if I felt ok. Anyway, bit wimpish and I felt a wally but just got straight into bed when I got home. Felt brighter this morning so decided to go to work. Bit fed up with work at the moment. Looking forward to a long weekend!

We are going away to the peak district this weekend. Me and girls starting off with a day trip to peterborough on thurs to see a friend which will be nice.

Our garden is getting there. Decking complete so Ellens little house finally put together (been in garage since december). She loves it!

Hope all well with everyone else.

Rgee - hope pips spots are on the mend

vinorouge · 07/04/2009 21:32

e&h - symapthies for the 'i'm bored' comments. Can't decide whats worse - whinging or when ellen moves onto that stage!

EGGiee · 07/04/2009 21:46

Hi all.

P on the mend. Spots all blistered over so she returned to nursery today - prob a day too early as she was quite tired and wingey (yup - another one) but then, so was I . Went back to bed after dh and lo had gone this morning, and slept most of the morning. Bliss. Done very little this afternoon - wrote my birth plan - then went to the dentist (still no fillings at my great age ).
Am feeling v emotional still for no reason. Hormones I guess.

Vino - sounds like you need to take it easy (tells off again!). Hope you are feeling ok after a couple of good night's sleep.

Eah you any plans for the Easter break? Hope your dbro is ok - did you get on well with finacee?

PCF I know you may not get this, but good luck with the move. You take it easy too!

Wilkie what a nightmare re J and the tictac incident. I like his style though! Looks like a bogey pmsl!
How you feeling btw?

Congrats Auntie 2Happy. What flavour was the baby?

Lal hope your ice cream was big noms (can't talk about funerals or I'll blub)

Shimmer agree with Wilkie. You can't just post a little and run - how's things going? More detail needed

Wilkiepedia · 07/04/2009 22:10

Hello all

Just flying by as my internet connection is working (for the time being - HATING Virgin right now)

Am miserable. Really low, up and down so Reggie I can sympathise. Having horrible morbid thoughts about baby and JJ, I just am terrified of something happening to one of them - I have no idea where this has come from. Am going to see GP to see if I can up my AD dose to 20mg

So sorry, very maudlin post from me.

Vino - SO MANY bugs going round here, big hugs

Sorry, that is it, am off to bedski, be back soon. Not very chatty x

eandh · 08/04/2009 06:48

Wilkie - ((hugs)) it will all be fine its those blimmin hormones

Rgee - glad P is on the mend (and you got some rest) I used to get on really well with db ex fiancee but lately havent seen her and had a few 'issues' so am thinking this will be the best for him. DB wnet to see my mum and dad last night (first time in a year he has been there on his own for more than 5 minutes) he seems okay he has sorted the bank/credit cards and practical things. He is buying her all the practical things (plates/cups/glasses etc) so she is set up when she moves. Her application for Housing Benefit was succesful so gets most of that paid and no council tax so she'll be fine finacially. He bought himself a bike yesterday and is going to 'get fit' again

Vino - sounds like that bug mine had the other week (especially the headache bit)

We've got plans for the rest of the holiday thankfully, E got hospital this monring and my brother looking after HAttie for me. Tomorrow I have Eddas dd for the dau whilst she is at work, Friday off to visit my Nan/Aunt then off to IL's in the evening for a huge family meal. Saturday working and sunday egg hunt. Monday is eddas ds 2nd birthday so party, tuesday friends round to play/dinner, wednesday seeing anotherset of friends and not sure about next thursday and next friday is my 30th birthday so dh has day off and we may take E&H to the science museum in London or maybe the zoo (Port Lymne)

laughalot · 08/04/2009 12:59

Waves hello!!

Eah glad e appointment went ok.

Vino have a god weekend sounds like lots of fun.

Wilks/ Rgee I think at the end stages its alot to do with tiredness, how will I cope with 2 children ect. When l was born I felt so guilty as a was such a bugger with l, I just thought why have I done this to him but now I cannot seperate them and when they are walking along holding hands and kissing one another before bed I know it was the best thing in the world. You pair are strong characters you will be just fine I wont say its easy because that will be telling fibs but later down the line you will be happy mummies again. My advice is find the biggest easter egg you can this weekend and get it down you !!!!! Big xxxxxxxxx

Aunty2happy hows things any plans for bank hol ? Will it involve tractors ?

Right off to peg washing out x

Lizzzombie · 09/04/2009 19:38

Coo-ee!
Have read through thread quickly & have to say:
Eggie (loving the name btw!) - preggie eggie! - If P is still itchy get Calamine AQUEOUS cream, its a million zillion times better than normal calamine lotion. Also, my mates little girl had the pox at the same time as DJ (Feb 08 ish) and now, over a year later, I was doing her nappy the other day and between her legs is a mass of scars. They were the last bit to heal poor thing, had blisters and wounds in there for ages as she couldn't go nappiless. I guess as P is a bit older and its a bit warmer, she may be able to get more air to the area? Def hope she is over the worst of it.
My sisters twins have just had it. One one week, and the other the next week! (she is so over CP now!) but her MIL caught it and got shingles from them too! And one of the twins got it in his eyes and on his eye lids. Poor little thing.
Moving on....

Big waves to everyone else.
Hope you are coping with the Easter Holidays ok.
Good luck with the move PCF.

Wilkie - Hope the Dr can help you. Must be awful. Just think, not long till maternity leave kicks in!

Well...I've been a bit busy. My Dad has had a series of mini strokes - TIA's. My parents live in Dorset in the middle of nowhere so I went down at the weekend to stay with them - without DJ (!). Basically I think my Dad has been overdoing it, but he refuses to slow down. He retired from the Police at 55 and has held about 3 pt jobs ever since. One in particular is very physical, and now, at 63 I just don't think his body can handle it anymore. But, he doesn't want to think about giving it up. My Mum is going bananas with worry.
I hate that they live so far away. He is back in hospital again at the moment as he had another 'turn' yesterday. They've put him on various blood thinning drugs and he's had a ton of scans which are all negative, but his carotid artery in his neck is 60% blocked up. They don't operate on them until they get to 90% blocked up.
Its all very scary.

So...any internet time which I do have is being used on NHS direct at the moment!

Ok...ironing to do. And Flip..I am missing the Apprentice! WTF am I doing on here?! x

Shimmer · 11/04/2009 12:33

Anyone got any suggestions for smart boys clothes??

Got to dress F up for a wedding (really soon!) and am failing to find any nice outfits for boys anywhere!

Dragonhart · 11/04/2009 22:24

Not caught up with anyonem(down at FIL's for week and just peaking!) and just saw your message shimmer.

Jojomamanbebe have some nice wedding clothes. I have also found lovely stuff in Debenhams, Zara and Pumpkinpatch. Boys are hard! xxx

eandh · 13/04/2009 06:25

MOrning

Lizz - so sorry to hear about you Dad, hope you are okay I bet it's tiring travelling and all a bit worrying

Shimmer - do you have a house of fraser near you our one has lovely smart boy bits in there (ranges from shirt/waitcaot and trousers, mini suits, lovely smart shirts and chinos etc etc)

DH - hoes R going with the feeding?

Well uneventful bank holiday weekend here, went to see my Nan on sunday and ended up on the beach in the afternoon and then to the IL's friday night for a huge family chinese all the children (mine and neice/nephew) got eggs and a card, the card was from dh Nan who passed away before xmas, it had a message about sending kisses from the sky (E thinks she is a star in the sky now) and they all have £50 to spend on whatever they wanted and we are not allowed to say no!!! Ellie bought herself a fab new bike (had one of ebay a few months ago but it is a bit rusty etc) I have put H's away as tbh she doesnt need anything. We got a cheque for £5k and have been very sensible we have given the girls £500 each in their saving accounts and buying preium bonds with the rest as we want to keep the money to go towards taking the girls to Florida when they are a bit bigger.

laughalot · 14/04/2009 10:28

Morning

Lizz how is your dad ?

Did everybody have a good easter ? Ours was pretty quiet just ate loads of eggs really lol. I felt insipired after speaking to eah this morning and l is runnig round with pants on not sure how long it will last.

Lizzzombie · 14/04/2009 16:49

Hi everyone!
Shimmer - I got a really nice outfit for DJ in the sale from M&S. Very smart. And reduced from £22 to £5! Have a hunt on line and see if there is anything else around. Or, Debenhams have a 'formal wear' dept which always has reductions in too. Why don't you come over for a shopping trip!?

Eah - How lovely of your DH's Nan to do that. The cards were a lovely idea for each of the children.

Lal - My Dad has been booked in for an operation to clear his carotid artery on Friday. It appears the original scan result was incorrect, and actually its 90% blocked and not 60%. Which is why all last week he had about 5 or 6 more TIA mini stroke thingys. That, coupled with a Dr trying to discharge him yesterday (he hadn't read his notes) and also the fact that the Locum Dr over the weekend has lost his notes so no-one really knows what drugs he is supposed to be on has left my Mum (a nurse) absolutely spitting furious. Tell you what, it sort of puts you off ever wanting to go to hospital (apart from going in to have a baby obviously!)

Anyway...

In other news!
Nursery have suggested that we start potty training DJ. WTF !!! I was in no way even considering it until the summer. He tends to stand in his potty or throw it down the stairs rather than actually use it ever! But, apparently, at nursery its a different story (of course it is, he eats there and everything don't you know!?!)
So, I'll be buying pullups instead of nappies from now on.
Have any of the other boys shown an interest in using the potty yet? Am I underestimating my childs development?! (and putting off the ineviatable?!)

laughalot · 14/04/2009 17:32

Ok lizz well first off sorry to hear about the shit with your dad it aint good I hate hospitals except when I had my two .

Potty training well l has had her nappy off all day today and pants on, we had 3 accidents and no attempt at the potty at all. Tell me to mind my own buisness if you want because the hv told me this and usually I cant stand hv but it was true what she said about pullups. Try and let him go naked in the day if you are at home as pullups are just like nappies really just opt for the pullups at night. Boys do find it alot harder than girls apparently and dont like letting go.

When I was training aidan he was just under 3. One day. I took his nappy off and he held his poo all day and eventually sat on the potty I assume in pain and did it and literally that was it he was dry during the night aswell. I just put him in pants for bed.Prior to me training him he would ask for a nappy to do a poo in and then would want it off as soon as he had done it. Does d tell you when hes done a poo?

I think its down to you I dont think lauren is ready yet but I have tried today, maybe spending £ 2000 on carpets wasnt such a clever idea lol.

EGGiee · 14/04/2009 18:40

Hi all - thought I'd better show my face .

Lizz good job your mum is on hand to help re your dad. Nightmare. Hope his care has improved today, and get well soon Mr Lzzombie Snr.
Can't help at all re potty training. Plan to attempt later in the summer. She claims to want to sit on the potty then obviously does nothing atm. Am wondering if nursery might train her on my behalf .

Lal / Eah a very relaxed Bank Holiday here. Good having dh around most of the time - we did 'family' stuff like park, farms, etc and the weather was quite nice too.

Lo is much much better, indeed it is really only today she is back to her normal self. Last week she was proper stroppy teenager - saying 'yuk' and 'no' to everything. Spots have nearly all gone too.

So, two weeks to go . Have been having massive braxton hicks this time (didn't have any with P), really over the last week. Do I recall UD saying she had loads too second time around? The powers that me have refused me a scan though to check position as 'it is definitely head down'....erm...you said that last time .

My mate had twins at the weekend, and I am going to see my friend with 5 wk old tomorrow. Babies babies all around...

eandh · 14/04/2009 19:07

oooooo teeny tiny babies am so although have no desire to have any more

Lizz - glad to hear MR Lizz is on the mend and pmsl at DJ being angel child at nursery - typical isnt it

Rgee - I had braxton hicks 2nd time (never had any with E) ended up going in 3 times to be checked as I knew she was transverse

Had my godchildren here for tea and they all ate so well and been running around like loons in the garden and my 2 are fast asleep (in fact Hattie goes to bed by 5.30pm at the moment as shes exhausted from fresh air!!) Bizarelly she has been the easiest child in teh world re toilet training did it all herself and dry at night so giving all my nappies to Eddas now for her ds, she even managed a 2 hour car journey on Friday and was fine

Just waiting for dh to come back with dinner as I am knackered from running around after the kids all day. We are all off to the science museum on Friday (godchildren and their dad as well) I ams tarting to think my 30th birthday is not going to be realaxing (although Saturday will be fab as Laughalot has booked me a head/shoulder/neck massage for my bday present as well as some fab perfume and pil's paying for me to have my hair done )

laughalot · 14/04/2009 20:39

Rgee 2 weeks and you ds will be here whats he going to be called again .

Yep braxtons are a killer 2nd time round and I hate to say this but the after pains get worse with each pregnancy so make sure you have lots of painkillers at home. I still have those bibs send me your email address via facebook .

Wilkiepedia · 14/04/2009 20:49

Eggiee - HUGE braxton hicks this time round and am only 31.5 weeks. Get them all the time but don't remember getting them last time. Not painful just SO TIGHT!!! My tummy feels like rock at times. SO exciting and that you only have 2 weeks to go.

My two friends have popped over weekend, a boy and a girl! The boy has been named our chosen name (argh) but I'm not being precious about it, will have to think of something else now. Very freaky though as she didn't know our name!!

Lizz - think that is absolutely dreadful re your dad. Poor thing. Fingers crossed for Friday. FWIW, I agree with LAL about pull-ups. Why bother? I would personally let him just wear pants during the day and accept a few accidents and then pull ups at night. The Gina Ford (!) potty training book is quite good and has some useful tips in (it is a bit militant for me but her suggestions are good) - do you want me to pop it in the post for you to borrow? J is showing some interest but it is sporadic so am waiting unti it is hot and he can run around with no pants on in the garden. Don't let nursery push you into it if you don't feel ready!!

EAH - what a lovely thought from your Nan, that really is touching.

Erm erm - arghhhh forgotten who else has posted now. Sorreeeeee!

Not much to report. Finish for mat leave on 6th May now. Getting loads of Braxton Hicks (or Branston Pickles as dad calls them?!). Got MW appt tomorrow so will see if he has turned yet. Off to Center Parcs on Monday - bliss!

Q for mothers of boys: J has started getting LOADS of erections and keeps either saying his willy is sore OR that he has done a poo (I think it is the sensation that makes me think he has filled his nappy). Do you think it is sore or just that it feels weird for him?? He gets very funny about it and doesn't like me touching it when I am changing his nappy 'Mummy, willy is big, leave it to go away...' so I just leave his nappy off until it has disappeared. Bit gross but hey ho. Any suggestions or do I just ignore - should I get the dr to check it??

Reggiee · 14/04/2009 21:08

OMG.....ERECTIONS and other boys stuff to come ...

Need to go to bed now for a lie down!

Wilkiepedia · 14/04/2009 21:11

Erections
Being hit in eye with piss when changing nappies
Incessant obsession with bums, willys and poo
Stiff socks when they are older

....and I will have it twice over!!!!!!

Shimmer · 14/04/2009 22:53

Hi all. Hmmm... don't think I can help with the big willy issues Wilkie. I have noticed that F does have what looks like a mini erection occassionally, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all and he's never mentioned it, so I just look the other way It is difficult to get a nappy over the top though, so I have also waited til it's gone down...

Freddie is kind of half potty trained at the moment. I started a few weeks ago, but very intermitantly as I'm always busy and we never seem to get much time at home. But anyway, now he is absolutely fine running about bare bummed at home. He will always go to his potty if he needs a wee or poo. BUT as soon as he puts pants or trousers on he seems to forget that he's not wearing a nappy and has an accident. I can only think the sensation of somehow being covered is confusing him?!? I think we'll just carry on having a couple of hours a day nappy off time, so he carries on getting used to using the potty, and just wait a bit until I think he's ready to try pants again. What do you do when you need to leave the house? Do you take them to public loos if they need a wee? Or have a travel potty with you at all times?

Shop is going well. Frantic as usual, and the builders working on the flat above the shop are doing my head in. The date that we'll be moving in is getting further and further, meanwhile we'll still paying mortgage and big rent, which is really tough. But everyone keeps saying "It'll be worth it in the end"... so I have to keep telling myself that! The shop's closed next week for a refurb, which I am insanely excited about. It's long overdue!!

RGee - 2 weeks You're lucky to have friends having babies. None of mine have bothered yet. Still! Which means I don't have any little ones to coo over at all. I do actually love talking about babies and little people and really don't know anyone else that's interested, except you guys!
