Ooh am now looking through knitting patterns! MIL works with a compulsive (and therefore superb) knitter who neeeeeeds commissions on a regular basis.

dizzydixies · 02/02/2009 19:35

evening all, bit of a strange day here and as such behind on the dinner/bath/bed battle

off to help dh who sounds like he's loosing!!

Sausageandmash · 02/02/2009 19:54

Yes, it's been a bit all over the shop! DD's nursery was shut so we met some friends and spent hours making snowmen, snow dogs, snow cats, etc etc. DS didn't quite know what to make of it all!

The strangest thing was how a bit of snow changes things - I went out for an emergency pint of milk this morning and complete strangers were just smiling at each other. It was lovely!

Am sure it will be all black ice and bad moods tomorrow ... but it was nice while it lasted!

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 20:11

Evening!

ts very sorry to hear about your grandmother, I hope that you have the support you need.

vg sounds brilliant, so pleased it was such a lovely day.

Some snow here, not too bad, fingers crossed that everything (school/nursery) will be open tomorrow. I have a serious head/earache from ds2 who (i kid you not) does not stop talking from the second he wakes up until he goes to sleep (note: goes to sleep not goes to bed).

no1 I am just about to go for the wine. The aforementioned child is still not in his non-talkative state . I am steadfastly ignoring all noises from upstairs at the moment.

steak, your link really made me laugh. How many times have I been told - 'I gave it to you' when something important goes astray... only to find it appear in DH's pocket/desk or some such

dizzy strange how [nosey emoticon]

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 20:12

That is 'strange how?' [still nosey]

So much for the ability to ignore . Poor DS1 is sleeping (I use the term loosely) on DS2's floor while his room is plastered. We need to get his room finished fast

sazz, suggest you take your wine and go for your bath.

oopsacoconut · 02/02/2009 20:28

Evening All

Ataraxis - You beat me to asking Dizzy Strange how?

We had a fab day today - DH had the day off (booked before the snow was forecast) We woke up to very little if any snow so togged DD up in vest, babygro, fleecy dungarees, hoodie, fleece pramsuit and finally snowsuit. Poor mite only just bent in the middle to sit in the pram. Then rain cover on and off we set...... We had only been gone about 10mins when it started snowing seriously we carried on into town. When we got to Pizza Express I looked like a snowman from the front. It was a fantastic walk but loads of people were tutting at us for having 'that poor baby' out in the cold. We then walked to the IL's and home again - altogether about 3 hours walk. When we got home there was about 3 inches of snow and it hasn't stopped since.

We are supposed to be swimming tomorrow but it is on a farm down some tiny roads so we will go to baby massage instead.

Sazzles Hope the nap has not affected your girls bedtime.

Rotter great cake - have a FBG award

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 02/02/2009 20:29

lol sazzles.

I keep dropping hints for a bath on my own. No dcs even upstairs. Hot and full to the top
Not a chance. I now can't even have a shower without dd getting in.
About to open wine. been up a couple of times to settle ds,has bad wind again.

Dh rang from work earlier to say day shift left 3 hours earlier, and not sure if night shift can get in, or if he can get home, think should be ok now though.

oopsacoconut · 02/02/2009 20:29

x posted Sazzles wine and bath for you me thinks!

AnnVan · 02/02/2009 20:40

Wow expressing while feeding really works! Got five ounces while feeding little man from other side. He kept getting distracted by the sound of the pump though looked up every few seconds to smile at me.
DP getting a bath ready. Constantly fighting against cradle cap now. At least the thick crust he had on his head is gone now, but it's always trying to come back.

Haven't had any more snow for a while now. Seems to be starting to rain.

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 20:41

ann good to hear you sounding so upbeat . Have you tried dentinox for cradle cap? Worked wonders for dd.

CaptainCaveman · 02/02/2009 20:42

Well it is still snowing here I am madly excited seeing as we normally only get a smattering which then melts half an hour later. Dh and ds1 went out and made a snowman too

Onto the more serious news:.... Had a viewing this evening, a nice young couple. The lady was quite large. So as soon as they walk into the lounge the following happens.
Ds1 pats the lady on the belly whilst saying "Blimey, how much weight have you got to lose"
Dh and I were mortified. If they buy our house I will be bloody stunned!!

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 20:49

cc that's fantastic!!!

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 02/02/2009 20:50

cc but sorry pmsl. Kids eh????

I remember my brother doing/saying something similar when he was young. (a rather smelly man) he is 17 now.

rotterpotter · 02/02/2009 20:51

flipping heck CC I bet that was soooo embarrassing!

All this talk of wine is very tempting...

sambo303 · 02/02/2009 20:52

cc but also

vg glad yesterday went well, will email you for the pic

very pleased with all the knitting/crocheting going on - I have started a purple cashmere sweater for ds but have realised it's for 9-12months which is June - Aug erm - hope we have a dismal summer this year!

we put ds's newborn and 0-3 month clothes in the loft today. DP wanted to give them to charity!!! I think with all this lack of sleep he's forgotten we're having another

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 02/02/2009 21:00

Oh I am so jealous of all this knitting

I have a question for all you bfeeders or mix feeders.

Do you have an idea when you will stop bf?
Do you plan to let your dc self wean??
would you quite happily carry on to 1yr and beyond??
What do your partner's think of this??

I ask because. With dd me and dh said 6 months. No reason, just lack of knowledge and though that was the done thing.she self weaned at 9 month.

With ds, I would love to continue as long as we are both happy.However.... dh commented other day, when talking about getting things out of the way (toys sterilzer etc...when they no longer need) that prob 6 months stop bfeeding.
It wasn't you will only feed to 6 months (he is not like that) was just in passing and probably because thats what we planned with dd.
I didn't say I planned on feeding longer, think I will just go with the flow.
Wondered what people though of bf/extended bf etc... didnt really want to start a thread on this.....

CaptainCaveman · 02/02/2009 21:01

Actually she was really good about it and said, "ooh yes I know, lots of weight".
I apologised whilst dh dragged ds1 out of the room and sent him up to his bedroom. She said her neices and nephews were just the same....At least ds1 apologised (after prompting!)

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 21:06

no1, I think it very much depends on how you feel about it and sod everyone else.
I know what you mean about the six month thought process, but getting towards that, personally, I have been mix feeding for a while, and plan to continue with some bf until dd decides otherwise or she consistently sleeps through the night.

ataraxis · 02/02/2009 21:10

cc, it could be worse. I remember someone (random adult stranger) asking my mum when the baby was due... it wasn't. Still didn't incentivise her to lose weight though

When I was preg with dd, I had to fly to

rotterpotter · 02/02/2009 21:11

No1 with DD I excl BF for 6 months then mix fed until she was 1 and she self-weaned.

With DS I am currently giving one FF at bedtime and plan to continue BF as long as he wants to. I'd like to go on for more than a year if possible, we'll see how it goes. Although smaller breasts would be nice . DH more than happy for me to carry on as long as DS and I want to,after all it means he doesn't have to get up if DS wakes at night .

OK have bowed to peer pressure and enjoying a large glass of red. Yum

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 02/02/2009 21:13

thanks.
I have a very small mouthful left.
