Dontpanic-No need to whisper, we don't judge round here.
I am rubbish. It is pathetic. I have "tried" to give up breastfeeding about 10 times and the only words my son says that actually mean something are mama and "booboo"...his little face looking up at me, doing the milk sign and saying booboo with a sad face is too much for my hormone-ridden head. Am beginning to believe that I wont ever get pregnant and I think part of me is holding on to the only baby-like thing about P in case he is my only one. (Even though I know in my head that the BF may be stopping pg from sticking.) Argh. Perhaps DH is right...I should take a heavy-duty sleeping pill so will sleep through crying and not be ABLE to feed him for a few days. How does one go about finding out the amount of time a drug stays in your body?

Dontpanic · 27/01/2009 07:43

Well, I have to say that earplugs don't normally work for me, but I got some ear-plane ones at the weekend and didn't wake up until 8.25...slept through DH getting up at 5ish and all the racket after that.
Babies know instinctively how to activate the "mummy-feel guilty!" circuit, Turtle!

merryberry · 27/01/2009 08:49

X marks the spot

JFly · 27/01/2009 09:24

I think no matter what we tell ourselves, it's always going to be us Mamas who feel the worst about giving up. Our babies won't remember the last feed, but we probably will.

I dread giving up, too, although I look forward to not being beholden to the boob. And I don't have a chatting/signing baby asking for it, so I can only imagine how it feels to have P do that.

I fear that until you/we crack the night feeds, that it will be a difficult task to wean completely. And every cold/tooth/growth spurt is there to scupper us on that front.

I don't have advice (as you can see) but lots of sympathy. I don't see how you can do this on your "own", though. If your DH can't or won't do the nights so that P can't tempt you into feeding, then it could turn into a really long and painful process. So, for you, maybe going away is the best option. Could you go away for the nights and come back in the day, so you could start with night weaning and then move on to dropping day feeds? Plus then you'd get some sleep?? DH would have to get in the game, though.

MarchNowFebMum · 27/01/2009 09:37

You know, I was all weepy during the last feed but now that I am on the other side so to speak, I feel really good about the time I spent, having my body back and the fact that DD has moved on to mastr other things like holding her cup and such. Just trying to offer the hope that getting over the hump is hard, but gets easier on the other side!

(Cracked the night feed bit 2 weeks ago...)

ilovegreenbeans · 27/01/2009 13:51

marking too- computer kind of fixed...

JFly · 27/01/2009 14:19

Oh, sorry, Turtle, thought that was still an issue since you were talking about sleeping pills.

Ignore me, then.

merryberry · 27/01/2009 14:59

How is the new place ewe ?

FfreckleFface · 27/01/2009 15:22

Turtle, it's not pathetic! I'm going to London for the weekend (uni housemates reunion, the five of us do it this weekend every year) and, since I can express about three drops an hour now, am planning on leaving Ff with cows milk. I'll only be missing five feeds (Friday bedtime, all three on Saturday, and Sunday morning), and will take the manual pump with me so I can do a few minutes reminding my boobs to make milk. Last night I was feeding Ff, and Bloke said, 'Make the most of it, Ffion, because Mummy is drying up on the weekend.'. I was shocked at how vehemently I jumped on him telling him that I wasn't giving up bf yet, and planned to go on for a while yet. Didn't realise I felt quite so strongly...

Think she'll self wean soon though. The afternoon feed already seems like it annoys her, so that'll go soon.

If anyone needs really good earplugs, Bloke works with explosives, so I have access to the best ones you can steal from the MOD buy.

Ordered her birthday cake on the weekend...can't believe that is approaching. I think a birthday-time meet up would be good, what do you all think?

In the meantime, how about a reminder list, a little like the EDD one last year Add your LO and their birthday so we can see them approaching.

Ffion - 21 February

turtle23 · 27/01/2009 15:46

Cracked the night FEEDS, yes. He still wakes up for cuddles 2 out of 5 nights.

Blimey- forgot you lot aren't up to first birthdays yet

wearehipsandmakers · 27/01/2009 19:03

wearehipsandmakers- Evelyn Martha, 26 March.
Feeling a little bit freaked out, Evie had her 8 month review today, (I know at 10 months) and the HV wasn't very happy that she doesn't roll, crawl or pull herself up yet. The thing is, as she sat so early, she never really lay down much from 5 months so some of that she never learned to do because of that, I think....
Anyway, she'll 'be following it up'..
MB- how was your glorious night? I am saving up as we speak but it's taken a hit because I have finally found someone who can cut my hair (hooray!!) but she's not cheap (boo!). Every silver lining seems to come with a cloud these days.

merryberry · 27/01/2009 19:21

was really great ta. do recommend the place/area when you can manage it. the exec room was non-london standard size, so expect the small rooms to be bed sized.

your kid is normal! ds1 didn't crawl, ever. he started punting himself along on one hip using other leg i think just under a year. i know when we were in slovenia at 14 monthshe could do that really fast. walked about 19 months as i recall, tried for a couple before that. much more forward at speech mind you, that twas his thing.

merryberry · 27/01/2009 19:22

oh and gg still barely rolls, despite rapid crawl and recent clawing up into standing action.

Ewe · 27/01/2009 19:31

New place is fabulous thanks MB, really thrilled with it. Having a housewarming party on Friday to celebrate (that and DP's birthday). Oh and best of all, I have internet now!

I have been so busy recently, DD stayed over GPs on Sat night as DP was launching a new club/band night thing in Angel which was great fun, I stayed out partying until 4am at which point I had to have a nap in the green room area .

Then on Thurs DP is DJing with Eric Prydz so going up to the Midlands to watch that and cash in on the free hotel - again, sans baby. Really miss her when she stays out for the night but it does wonders for my mental health.

Have had a stinky cold and lost my voice so work sent me home today and am on AL for the rest of the week as have much unpacking and tidying still to do in preparation for Friday. Def think a March meet up is a good idea, anyone fancying being chief organiser??

JFly · 27/01/2009 19:53

wearehips G is the same. Thankfully I went to my 8 month on time so they weren't concerned then that he wasn't moving much. He can roll, but like your DD doesn't spend much time lying down. He hates being on his front and can stretch like a rubber band so there's not much motivation for him to crawl. He stands pretty strongly (always me holding him) but doesn't pull himself up.

A lot of people say it's normal, and I try to keep in mind all the babies who never crawled, etc. But I must admit it kind of makes me worry when I see loads of babies his age crawling and some even walking now. OH, and I had a friend tell me that the reason her DD was crawling and pulling herself up was b/c she is formula fed. Her theory being that G isn't strong enough b/c I BF. But that's another story altogether!

If he's still not moving at a year, maybe I'll ask the GP about it, but I'm not going to stress too much right now. Try not to, too!

Dontpanic · 27/01/2009 20:26

Just editing to my current name and adding in WAH&M. HAd forgotten LO was one of 3 on the 15th! Am looking forward to his naming ceremony/birthday party on the day though no idea what to do entertainment wise for it.

Hallo All

I'm a lurker/newbie and want to join the club. Been watching the thread for a while now but its been so long without contributing that I was starting to feel like some kind of thread perv.

Anyway, DD born on the 20th of March, wunderful child; appalling sleeper -- Glad to finally say HELLO in virtual print land.

ilovegreenbeans · 27/01/2009 21:20

hi crashfistfight- and welcome!
