Morning

Snow is wonderful, I'm originally from Chicago and there it snows like this the whole winter, feels kinda like home...dd just stood looking out the window this morning in a state of complete awe, was mesmerized by our neighbors making snowmen.

Anyway, just posted elsewhere on MN but thought maybe someone here could help: dd keeps falling asleep sitting up in her cot and wont lay down to sleep. when I go in to lay her down very gently she instantly wakes up and the cycle begins all over again with a few whimpers until she falls asleep sitting up agian...

PurlyQueen · 02/02/2009 12:49

Matthew is mesmerised by the snow. He keeps crawling over to the back door and pulling himself up so he can get a better look.

I'm determined to enjoy my last week of maternity leave - it's back to work on Monday

FfreckleFface · 02/02/2009 14:42

LOVING the snow. I'm not entirely sure that taking the buggy out in it with the two dogs was my most intelligent idea ever, but we all had fun, and I only fell over once.

Ff stayed with Bloke all weekend while I went to London with my friends. I also experienced the dead mouse in mouth yesterday morning, Don'tPanic! I missed her more than she missed me, I think, although she was very pleased to see me when I got home yesterday. Am miles behind on my freelance stuff now though, and need to finish my uni application this week too. [busy emoticon]!

Am considering another snow walk now....

littleducks · 03/02/2009 09:15

i am very at all of you spending weekends in hotels,

nothing nice to say so will keep the moaning brief, i am knackered to a beyond possible point, ds is awake pretty much all night atm with a blocked nose, im seriously considering dosing him up on calpol night tonight to deblock him,

seriously one or the other of my kids has been ill since nov and i have had no sleep for months on end, am currently consuming a good deal of my body weight in chocolate am so down that i had to tell my mum not to come and help this weekednd as dd had a terrible d and v bug and my mum coulnt have get sick and have time off work and mil was supposed to come tody but is now unable to due to the snow

ilovegreenbeans · 03/02/2009 10:56

big hugs little ducks- so sorry you're feeling down

FfreckleFface · 03/02/2009 20:39

Ewe, I have was just looking at the lovely snow pictures on your profile and realised that you went to the same school as one of my best friends. Small, small, small world.

Ff crashing around the living room using various toys/pieces of furniture at an alarming rate now. She had a bit of a cry in Waitrose earlier on when she tried to use the trolley as a teething chew, but apart from that is sweetness and light at the moment.

Had an awesome weekend with my friends in London, although do wonder how you all manage on the tube. Am in awe, honestly. I think my Quinny is definitely built for the countryside, not the city.

More snow on the way, woo hoo!

Dontpanic · 03/02/2009 23:12

MIL phoned me today at work to let me know that she'd gone in to check on LO in his (travel) cot and found him standing upright, not holding on to anything, staring at the bookcase! On the one hand I was for not seeing it first, on the other hand I was bursting with pride, and with my third hand I was panicking like hell as the travel cot still had the baby bassinet attachment in it, so he could have fallen out really easily! However, he didn't, and bassinet now removed
How do they learn so quickly? It amazes me how they just spurt with what they pick up from one day to the next. Little geniuses (genii?) all of 'em.

Littleducks, hope things get better soon and you catch up on some much needed sleep. {{{hugs}}}

turtle23 · 04/02/2009 06:07

Littleducks-I hope things improve for you soon...(((hugs)))
Am never posting about how good things are on here again...he has been sheer evil ever since. Had 3 hours sleep last night.

FfreckleFface · 04/02/2009 09:15

Littleducks, did you get any sleep last night? Hope that things are better for you soon. Turtle, the cardinal rule is to NEVER admit to being pleased with how things are going - it will only lead to trouble.

Missing singing group this morning as our street has turned into a skating rink thanks to all of the slushy snow freezing. God forbid the RAF should grit the roads...Going to brave the streets with the dogs and the buggy in a bit though, and hope I don't get pulled over.

CricketsMum · 04/02/2009 09:17

DP - how exciting!!! yay to your LO!!
LD - thinking of you...
Turtle - nightmare! more teeth? Hopefully this is just a blip and you'll get back to the good stuff really soon!

Am trying to update my CV and really really struggling to remember what I used to do pre-baby! As for constructing cohesive sentances... no chance!! Doesn't help that whilst I know my CV is saved in a really sensible place, can I find it? Oh no, so am having to start from scratch.

LO is sitting on the floor next to me playing with her toys and being generally very very cute. She took two wobbly steps yesterday which was sooo exciting - fab that DH wasn't at work due to the snow as we both saw them . Finally have the 4th tooth through, and I thought we were going to get a break after a teething marathon (since November I think), but woke to find bright red cheeks this morning...

monthlymayhem · 04/02/2009 21:19

Hope you get some help littleducks so you can grab a few hours sleep.

Well, 3 days into my return to work and I am actually quite enjoying it in a 'I'm just playing at being at work and will be going back to normal life soon' kind of surreal way. I think reality will hit when Sunday night comes and I have another week ahead of me. I'm missing LO of course, but it's so nice to see him soooo excited to see me when I come home (well at least for 30 seconds until he spies the tv remote/phone/fluff which is of course more exciting than mummy being home).

DH is now looking after him most of the time I'm at work, and he looks pretty exhausted when I get home. I'm trying my best not to say 'I told you so'....the house is of course a tip, but will tackle that next week.

LO has gone from the world's worst sleeper to sleeping angel just in time for me being back to work, although we did have to do CC for a couple of nights. V horrible on the first night, but the difference is really amazing, and the thought of going back to work on no sleep was really what drove us to doing CC....

He also now seems to be over the sickness bug he's had on and off for 10 days or so, and is generally being very cute.

We have standing unaided for a second or two which he gets very excited about, claps hands, and then falls over

Hope everyone is enjoying the snow, we've really just had light flurries up here so far, but it's starting to snow quite heavily as I type. How lovely to get snowed in tomorrow!

Ewe · 04/02/2009 21:44

Wow Ff, that is a weird coincidence!

MM - I am thinking of doing ccing with DD as she takes so long to get down to sleep and almost always ends up in our bed by about 3am. I have been back at work for 5 months now and I can't function for much longer with disturbed nights! Did you follow a book or just do it with info from internet etc?

turtle - sorry to her P is being a pickle again, we must sort out meeting up soon and let them wear eachother out for an afternoon. Wishful thinking!

turtle23 · 05/02/2009 06:08

I wont say it.

merryberry · 05/02/2009 16:19

House full of toys. For 6th day running Gg will only play with pack of kitchen roll.

turtle23 · 05/02/2009 20:23

OK, so P has been walking for 7 weeks. Walking really well for 3. Today he is falling down constantly and even a bit wobbly sitting. Took him to GP thinking maybe ear infection and nothing. Anybody have any ideas? Thought he might just be v tired, but is waaaay to wobbly. ?????

Hi EWE! I got some advice from Mnetters and then basically did my own version. :

  • followed our normal bedtime routine: book/bath/bottle/cuddle/bed - when we put him in the cot he would start crying and I stayed with him for approx 2 mins with my hand on his tummy which settled him down (or if he was trying to stand up etc I just kept lying him back down).
  • after two minutes left the room and let him cry/chat/whine for 2 mins
  • went back in for two mins with hand on tummy
  • left room and went back in after 3 mins
  • then go back in after 4 mins, 5 mins etc

On the first night he settled after we'd reached the six minute stage which was horrible (and I probably cried more than LO did..). Second night he settled after 3 mins, last night it was 90 secs and tonight it was about 2 seconds

We did try everything else possible beforehand as I really didn't like the thought of cc but have got to say that it worked really well.

Good luck!

Turtle - ear infection would have been my first thought. Could P be coming down with a virus and feeling a bit weak?

wearehipsandmakers · 06/02/2009 08:43

Getting a leetle bit fed up with the snow now. Blizzard going on outside window and no chance of getting anywhere for the third day in a row. Yesterday DH went to work as we live within walking distance of his work which is normally a plus point but as I watched all these dads on the estate building snowmen with their kids I'll felt a little .
He braved the snow to get milk yesterday evening but as the local Co-op apparently hadn't had a delivery all he could come back with was strawberry Frij. DS was highly diverted at breakfast.
DD has conjunctivitis but doesn't seem to mind and is thankfully reverting back to a 6 o'clock start. DS has taken to waking up in the night to be sick but is otherwise fine. Very odd.
Turtle- is P ill in any other way? If he has a cold or something he may be feeling a little dizzy when he stands up.

turtle23 · 06/02/2009 09:45

Not ill. Teething, but what else is new...

Dontpanic · 06/02/2009 15:13

Been through about 5 changes of clothes for LO today, had explosive nappies since Weds pm, vommed during swimming last night, then again after lunch and after some juice today. He will insist on then crawling through the mess
However, walking is coming on leaps and teeny steps

Still hardly any snow here, never got above 2 inches. Just may cause a bit of a prob if it continues past Monday as a) our dogsitters are flying in to Bristol on a domestic flight and b)M4 may be a bit impassable to get to LHR...
Fingers crossed though!

WAHAM, hope you escape the confines soon.
Turtle, sounds ear-like to me too, much as I know anything about baby illnesses!

Dontpanic · 08/02/2009 19:04

where is everybody? Did I scare you all away? Have you all been snowed in and lost power?

Vomiting so far only once today, hope that's the end of it...got a feeling it was more reflux causing it so the acidy feeling made LO feel worse. Don't know if I should see about GP appt tomorrow or not, suppose there isn't a lot they can do about it anyway?

ilovegreenbeans · 08/02/2009 21:01

guess we've all had busy weekends!
We took dd to Hamley's yesterday and picked up a few treats and some things to put away until next month. Think DH had more fun than either me or dd however!
He picked out one of those hamster-in-a-ball toys for her, which dd finds hilarious, but still hasn't enticed her to move at all (which I think was our secret hope.).
Everyone else doing ok?

turtle23 · 09/02/2009 07:00

Hope everyone had a good weekend.
Littleducks-Are you ok? Thinking of you. Hope you are getting some sleep.
On that note...am trying to work out whether I am just really really worn out or whether I have PND. It's a bit tough to tell when you haven't slept for a year. P is sleeping and I am not. I am coming to the realisation that something has got to give and I think the BF has really got to go. If I can't get away I might just fall apart. Have been looking into childminders but they are all full or too far away. May have to put him into nursery, work part time and think about using the doula money (oh, the millions) toward that. On a more positive note, I went to a waterbirth study day on Saturday that was meant for midwives and it was FAB.

ilovegreenbeans · 09/02/2009 10:28

hey turtle, i had a couple of weeks of not sleeping recently and it was tough. I couldn't stay asleep, tried earplugs, tried eye mask, tried going to bed early, staying up late, etc... but it did go away on its own- I think I was worried about going back to work and my mom going home and that's what triggered it.
P is almost a year, well done! If you're ready, then go for it.

merryberry · 09/02/2009 17:47

it took me weeks to leasrn to sleep through again once ds1 started doing it! i started a read myseklf to sleep habit i still have to this day. dh jokes about it, as of course nowadays i'm often so knackered he says 'got your bopok to hold to sleep?' as that's all i manage. and before going for PND, check iron and thyroid levels, both of which have stymied me in the past.

happy hols don'tpanic, hope his health improves. gg finally dryig up as well.

want to get gg a rocking toy for 1st b'day. ds1 never liked them then, but gg does already. anyone seen anything good? tbh, much as id like a nice wooden thing i need a lump of weatherproof plastic so i can keep it in the concrete jungle graden
