I have to say, DS may not sleep as well as some but he does eat. His current fave is curry. We have tried a few variations and although he is happy to eat off a spoon (as long as he has a spoon to feed himself with too-DO TRY THIS IS WORKS!) he also loves to have curry and rice mushed together and shoved into naan. That way I get to clean the kitchen or eat while he eats-Hurrah!
Gyoza may sound fiddly, but once you get the hang of them they are very easy and baby sized.
Meatballs always good and hand-held. DS also absolutely adores "bang-bang" chicken (annabel karmel) in strips. Also, anything that can be dipped you could let him dip into high-calorie/protein dips. Hummous is always a winner.
Don't discount plain old roast dinner either. Just because it looks a bit shocking to eat with you hands doesn't mean it wont go down well.
I bought some genius sporks in Canada that bend. DS can pretty much feed himself with them.

hi everyone, have been lurking as all a bit sad here, buton a happyt note did we organise a birthday meet up?

crashfistfight · 14/02/2009 19:10

Happy valentines day and hello all. yes, what ever happened to said birthday meetup?

On the food front- dd is mainly bf but in addition she gets several doses of solids throughout the day. As we haven't yet delved into the eggciting world of eggs our protein consists mainly of hummus, peanut butter (gasp), avocado and tuna. Most of which gets smeared on and disguised on toast/crackers with philadelphia.

Everyday I try to give her something new, mostly trying to coax her into eating some of 'our' food but it just gets spat out with a shudder and a look of utter disgust followed by that kind of shiver you get when you eat something unexpectedly disgusting. I will try grated carrots tomorrow upon HQ suggestion...

Off now to find the rest of the chocolates DP hid throughout the house in strange places, the first one I found was on top of my deodorant stick--yummmm

crashfistfight · 14/02/2009 19:15

forgot to say that one of my japanese friends used to just use regular white rice but didn't rinse it because she said it was the starch that made it sticky. maybe this will help?

Ewe · 14/02/2009 21:19

DD gets through any type of food with her hands, it's quite amazing and a pre loaded spoon or fork also helps.

Her absolute favourites are pasta in any form, pesto and cheese, meatballs etc. Jacket potatoes with cheese and beans, tuna or chilli. Also made her a red lentil potato bake type thing (after she loved the Cook version), just red lentils, a tomato sauce and then a load of veg - squash, courgette, sweetcorn, peppers etc and square blocks of potato. Mini fishcakes were a hit as well as cous cous with lamb, tomato, peppers, lemon juice and morrocan spices which was easier to eat than I thought as cous cous has a propensity to stick into little balls anyway.

She also east lots of fruit and veg raw, loves cherry toms, celery, cucumber, carrot and dips and goes nuts over grapes, cherries, pear, peach and kiwi which I always find reassuring from a vits point of view as they make up for lazy day meals IMO!

HQ - your holiday looks amazing, I am so and fabulous news about the leg!

turtle - great idea about library, thank you, (obvious with hindsight but I hadn't thought about it!) and got DD her bookstart pack today.

We are finally illness free and DD is sleeping pretty well as a consequence - if I haven't cursed it by typing!

Sorry to hear you are not feeling great littleducks, let's get a meet up sorted and we can cheer you up! As planning in advance doesn't seem to work too well shall we try last minute organising? Are you all free next weekend? This is so not going to work but one can but try...

turtle23 · 15/02/2009 07:13

I have a breastfeeding peer support workshop on Saturday. Free Sunday.

littleducks · 15/02/2009 08:47

i meant busy wise am not planning on surprising turtle at her bf course

FfreckleFface · 15/02/2009 11:35

Next Sat is Ff's birthday, so we've got people here all weekend. (I am hijaking her party slightly, and insisting that people stay after the cake and jelly to have some beers for my birthday.)

How is everyone's weekend going? Am a bit hungover after yesterday, but it was all worth it

turtle23 · 15/02/2009 15:15

littleducks...have CATed you.
BF update:I have made it through 10 hours so far. I had decided that giving up when period started was a good idea as am so hormonal. Thought it'd be wednesday next so was a bit sad when it was this morning(just after I'd fed him...so got one last one in.) Haven't cracked yet...but may end up feeding him once tonight or tomorrow morning as I seem to have lost my pump...??????Where would I possibly put it?

OP posts:
HolidaysQueen · 15/02/2009 15:55

Good luck turtle I know it's no consolation, but I don't know where my pump is either!

crashfistfight · 15/02/2009 16:38

erm, I'm free next sunday as well for a meetup, would be nice to meet at least some of you then.

turtle23 · 15/02/2009 17:26

Where are we all? I'm South London.

OP posts:
Ewe · 15/02/2009 18:16

I am Surrey but happy to do anywhere central. Am totally free weekend after 27th/28th if that is easier - DP is away so have whole weekend to do what I want!!

Next Sunday also works well for me so will just fit in with whatever is easiest.

littleducks · 15/02/2009 19:42

am waaay out bugt happy to do central as the london meet ups are the only ones remotely close to me

crashfistfight · 16/02/2009 21:04

We're in east london, this sunday would be fine and so far the 1st of March would still be ok too

merryberry · 16/02/2009 21:36

yes sunday ok too, presuming we finally get healthy at some point!

turtle23 · 17/02/2009 10:38

OP posts:
Ewe · 17/02/2009 12:17

Oh no turtle - what is up?

crashfistfight · 18/02/2009 10:17

narf- I'm out as well ladies. have to go to germany asap and leaving on friday...foiled again but one of these days I really would like to put faces to the names (what on earth does sexonfire look like )

btw that reminds me, got a copy of Wetlands for V-day and started reading it, anyone else having a go?

pantshavenames · 18/02/2009 10:39

Yesterday as DS and DH were getting dressed there was a murmured conversation about underpants and the respective differences between DS's (Y-fronts) and DH (boxers thank the Lord). DS came running up in absolute joy at the wonder of the world shouting 'Mummy Mummy PANTS HAVE NAMES'
Hence the name change, used to be wearehips.

Hope you are OK Turtle?

Ewe · 18/02/2009 17:15

Let's ditch Sunday then... feel free to suggest other dates, I am pretty flexible!

MarchNowFebMum · 18/02/2009 23:12

Hi all!! Sorry have been MIA - been in work fog, hate it so much. But I won't go there. Miss you all and hope everyone is well.

I think we might be the first but tomorrow DD turns 1! I have spent the evening baking a PFB healthy cake from the what to expect book and it looks like rubbish. Am thinking I will cover in store bought sickly sweet icing to compensate. Thought I would feel wistful tonight but am actually feeling proud we all made it to this point in one (relatively one) piece and ready for her to be a toddler. As you are keenly aware they are getting so interesting and I am really looking forward to the next year - walking, running, talking, etc.

So here's a big kick off to year one!

PS Am totally up for a meet up on Mar 1.

merryberry · 19/02/2009 05:03

oh of course! happy birthday sanam! blimey that was one quick year, despite individual days of endlessness
