cyteen hair: I cannot really comment as my hair looks like yours minus fringe. You could do what I do and stick it up in a bun - the positives are: a) ds cannot grab it b) never forking out for a cut

PetitFilou1 · 23/01/2009 12:50

I agree steaknife - people on MN need to remember that they are not (all) qualified nutritionists/research scientists etc and also that they MIGHT be talking to someone else who actually is one of those things.

There is a lot of 'I've read this so it must be right' and 'I know what is best for your child and it is this way or the highway - those deviating from the path are not welcome here' attitude on here atm (not on this thread I hasten to add)

Steaknife · 23/01/2009 12:58

Thanks pf glad to know I wasn't just rambling about in the wild then. I actually have become more paranoid reading some threads on MN and ask DH each night "the baby's okay isn't she?"

Speaking/emailing with my RL friends with babies I probably get a bit more balanced input because folk will say, "well I tried that and it didn't work but this did" also will know me so know what approaches are "more steaknife" than others.

As someone said earlier - we all know our child best and are best placed to make the decisions about how we look after them.

By the way VG BDBNS (bunny-down-boob-nap-solution) settled Iz for lunchtime nap again - didn't sleep much but again no screaming.

No chance of taking her for a walk this afternoon, so she'll be in her buggy in her room to get a really good nap in.

Steaknife · 23/01/2009 13:47

For those of you looking at shopping for baby - 15% off at La Redoute online this weekend with code 6247 at the checkout.

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 13:51

I love nap time!!!!!

Though possibly eat too much during it Just had a sandwich, a pitta bread, 2 penguins and a banana .

AnnVan · 23/01/2009 14:12

I've realised I haven't been eating enough, so my supply has dwindled somewhat.
gah I'm seriously bored.

dizzydixies · 23/01/2009 14:16

getting on thread great title girls

DD2 napping in car, Dylan eating her feet sitting next to me and about to go and get DD1 from school

Uncle will need a permanent catheter (SP AGAIN!?! should really look it up) but as he already has a bag we think he'll cope no problem. Going to build up his strength then an op on his prostate but at the ripe old age of 88 I'm just delighted they think its worthwhile doing it, they could have just said no, its not worth the risk. In hosp over weekend and more decisions made after he's been monitored a wee while

Dylan had 3rd lot of jabs today and was a wee trooper - use of the word wee in its loosest terms as we think she's now about 22lbs 9-12month clothing out here but its hand me downs so been washed/shrunk a bit already

shall catch up properly later as went to visit friends this morning and left nappy bag with EVERYTHING in it so going back again after school at least I didn't forget one of the kids which is a genuine worry of mine

dizzydixies · 23/01/2009 14:19

ok ladies who need christening outfits for boys - please remember I'm a mother of 3 girls who get put in the family robe and be gentle - can you have a look at the links below please and tell me if this is the kind of thing you're looking for or is a more traditional robe you're wanting? you can get some lovely non frilly/non flowery robes too but I wanted to know what it was you're looking for before pasting on a tonne of links

back later

this?

this?

this???

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 14:20

oh dizzy - leaving the nappy bag is bad...... ARGH!!!

ann in theory the amount you eat shouldn't affect your supply. Baby gets nourished first... What makes you think your supply has dropped? (hugs)

OP posts:
alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 14:23

dizzy nice links. TBH I'd only imagined little trousers/shirts/waistcoat type things - but your links are slpendid . Liking them a lot.....

OP posts:
AnnVan · 23/01/2009 14:29

Just when I've hand expressed I've been ekeing out a few drops at a time. After a couple of days of eating better, I hand expressed and it was properly squirting out.

Am trying to decide - should I get Sebastian christened or not?

dizzydixies · 23/01/2009 14:31

ALBS my one concern with the trouser/shirt/waistcoat combo is that I personally feel its uncomfortable - I prefer mine in onesies which can ride up, don't have waistbands etc especially when its such a busy day and they're going to be passed from pillar to post

BUT whatever you like - that is only MY personal opinion and I am here to help you find whatever you want for you and yours and there are some really lovely trouser/shirt/waitcoat combos on the same site

AnnVan · 23/01/2009 14:34

uuurgh. Just read horrible story about a 'mother' in Ireland who abused and neglected her six kids. WHY do people do these things? Apparently the judge wanted to give her life sentence but couldn't because of the law about sentences for women in incest cases. So 7 years she's got.

alittlebitshy · 23/01/2009 14:35

mmmm it might be more comfy...

loving your ideas so far

(aren't you meant to be on school run -i'm about to get h up and go to do the same)

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 23/01/2009 14:36

some non frilly robes here

this one

stunning but perhaps a tad expensive at £400!!!

lovely irish linen gown

dizzydixies · 23/01/2009 14:38

our robe is a long one but not frilly so to speak - difficult to describe - and has done for my brother, me and all my cousins (2 girls and 3 boys) will be used for all of mine and my cousins baby boy too so I personally think robes are for all

yes, school run beckons (I can see school from here so don't panic!!) although DEF time to go

will check back later and honest opinions please

Buckets · 23/01/2009 15:26

Oh man, have finally just caught up!

PF DH is back at work but sitting ona cushion to drive, gets twinges. Able to have sex though so that's all I care about LOL. Make sure your DH gets some y-fronts and paracetamol in advance and doesn't get the bus home in paper pants.

Someone was asking about my peculiar PIL, seems not to be suicidal at present although now I am worried that MIL is getting depressed from being stuck in the house with him! Trying to get some info on local post-adoption counselling for FIL as he just doesn't really understand the concept of getting help grr.

Ataraxis Noticed your plea for fashion help and just thought I'd state the maybe-not-obvious that no, you will never feel sexy or glam in a zip-up top. Does anyone fancy Dame Ellen McArthur?

Inset day here so I took all 3 kids to Marwell Zoo ON MY OWN!!! Stupid idea but I'd promised and we did pick up our annual passes. Realised that me getting in free due to DS1's condition should have reminded me that DS1's condition would have him haring around in front of tractors and refusing to come down from mega-high climbing frames when called. Really felt like smacking him (but didn't) - don't know how single mums cope, I really don't. Bloody cold and no cafes open either.

Maria2007 · 23/01/2009 16:18

Steakknife- very good point, it's true that most books (or should I say, ALL books) present one way of doing things & so people tend to become polarised... talking with other people (e.g. here on MN but also in real life) should help redress that balance...

I know I'm dim but whats FPG?

CaptainCaveman · 23/01/2009 16:54

ok I think I've just worked it out!

AnnVan · 23/01/2009 17:12

vg well my dad's a preacher! I was brought up in the church (very evangelical parets - even the smurfs were evil) I do believe, but no longer attend. DP doesn't care either way as he's almost anti-religion. I try to avoid religious discussions with him generally.

AnnVan · 23/01/2009 17:14

lol at saladfork
mmmm steak.

Ladies talk to me about mooncups - I'm starting to consider them instead of tampons (not that I actually need them at the moment)

sambo303 · 23/01/2009 17:18

ann I purchased one - no need to use it yet. So, buying it's as far as I've gone...
