VintageThistle · 25/01/2009 12:10

Same reaction to doing one's divemaster, lol.

I thought the Darjeeling Limited was FANTASTIC.

pertelote · 25/01/2009 12:42

Pertelote McBossy here.... Yay lots more people! You reminded me that it might be useful to repost the meet details on the new thread...

Date: Tuesday 27th Jan
Location: Giraffe at Crispin Place, Spitalfields (I have booked this, hope that's ok)
Map: here
Time: 11am until whenever
Attending:

  • Alieight
  • Alittlebitshy
  • AnnVan
  • Buckets
  • CaptainCaveman
  • Cyteen
  • Maria2007
  • Miamla
  • No1putsbabyinthecorner
  • Pertelote
  • RotterPotter
  • Sambo303
  • SausageandMash
  • Sazzles
  • VintageGardenia
...and their gorgeous babies! (any older LOs? At the moment Giraffe are expecting 12 15 adults and 12 15 babies) Have I got everyone?

Travel: nearest underground is Liverpool Street. As you can see from the map, you want to end up on Bishopsgate, there is a direct exit there from LS - either take the escalator at the end by the high-numbered platforms, or take the lift from the underground ticket hall to level 2 and go along to it at that level. Apologies for teaching Londoners to suck eggs and probably not helping non-londoners that much either!

The reason Crispin Place itself isn't on the map is that it is in a covered, pedestrianised area next to the market. As I recall Giraffe is on a corner after the first row of shops, sort of one block back from the road. It should be easy to spot. And my mobile number is on FB, if you're not and you want it then email me - jmh at pertelote dot org.

RotterMcPotter · 25/01/2009 12:43

Loved O Brother Where Art You, never heard of Darjeeling Ltd but only get to watch films when they come on telly, and even then not often due to inability to remain awake. Actually, we watched Thank You for Smoking last night, was very good (made me want a cig though )although it looked quite familiar. I'm sure I've seen it before but only remember bits of it, so it perhaps can't be that good? Ooh don't pay any attention to me!

Ali am in awe of your 24oz

Hoping DS will go to sleep in a minute then off out in the garden before the lovely morning we had is replaced with a rainy afternoon

RotterMcPotter · 25/01/2009 12:57

Yay Pertolete not bossy, just organised! So if Oops doesn't come there will be two girl babies - yours and Sazzles', and 13 boy babies!

Suppose I'd better get organised and draw a map/write down the directions. I'm very excited but getting a bit nervous too now, what if you're all awful

CaptainCaveman · 25/01/2009 13:01

Don't worry rotter I'm bloody horrible . A big hairy biker. With no personality. And rotten teeth. I don't even have a baby . Should make me fairly easy to spot.

Would the girl babies feel happier if I dress O in pink?

CYTEEN! Yay! If you want to join me on the train, I'm getting the 9.28 from NOttingham. It usually stops at Leicester....I'll go check!

RotterMcPotter · 25/01/2009 13:03

LOL CC!
My DS will have tights on, perhaps I should pick a pink pair for Tuesday too

TwilightSurfer · 25/01/2009 13:10

{{{twilight comes in all droopy and sad}}}
morning.
forgive me i've not read anything on the thread since early yesterday morning(my morning, of course, not your morning).
ran around yesterday like a mad woman getting ready for first date night in YEARS.
hair done.
house cleaned.
sitter.

left the house around 6:45pm.
sitter phones at 7:15pm.
reese would not stop crying.
we went over all the possibilities.
i made suggestions to make her happy.
sitter said, great, don't worry.
i phoned to check things at 7:45pm.
reese STILL crying.
so we came home.
as soon as i walked in the door reese stopped crying.
the sitter stayed for a while so reese could see i liked her and that she was a good person.
everytime i handed reese to her reese would WAIL.
not just any wail but a YOUR KILLING ME wail.

here i'd been worried about dd1.
i'd prepped her all week for the sitter.
the sitter had even come by and hung out with dd1 for a half hour.
dd1 was totally awesome.
reese, the one i had no worries about, was not a happy camper.

what do i need to do?

i really really want to be able to go out with my dh and leave the kids with a sitter.

side note: i've known the sitter for 20 years. i know her whole family. she's just a few years older than me. has a grown child. and is really an incredible person who i trust completely.

CaptainCaveman · 25/01/2009 13:20

cyteen the train calls at Leicester at 9.57. Just had a thought though - you don't have to travel with me! Talk about putting pressure on you!!

TS you poor thing. What can you do? Get the sitter to familiarise herself with Reese and vice versa? The only person I've left O with so far (except a half day in nursery when he was 8 weeks old) is my mum. Hope you get your date night soon!

AngusSteaknife · 25/01/2009 13:25

Twilight - oh dear, how rubbish for you. Hugs all round, cup of tea and a biscuit for you.

So who is who of Cyteen's new faceache friends?
I am Ruth....

Bah something sticking under my backspace key, it is v annoying. Also at 24oz, I was always pleased with 4.

Sausageandmash · 25/01/2009 13:40

TS - bloomin' typical. Sorry you didn't get your night out. My ds seems to have the same outlook as Reese - in completely opposite fashion to dd (now 4 years), he seems to be quite sensitive, and his little face sometimes crumples when he realises that he's with somebody other than me!

Have now managed to re-visit the previous thread and want to say thanks to Buckets for your 'big pig' vibes, Pertelote, Petitfilou, Sambo303, Oops and Sazzles for your words of experience and encouragement. I need them right now, although feel heaps better than I did before the allergy/diet clinic - it's just nice to have a 'plan'. Just hope it works!

weetimorousdizzybeastie · 25/01/2009 13:55

agree completely with CC being an easy to spot big hairy biker

Alieight - also lol at 'doing' the divemaster good for you!! 24oz?!?!?!?!? well done though!

angus we watched the new Will Smith one Hancock the other day and thought it was good - he is rather easy on the eye though!!

VT no need for the church and gym - behave yourself!! we've managed bacon butties

TS how horribly frustrating for you - I wonder if the wee soul was just a bit out of sorts and wanted her mum - lovely hair btw

sausage great news about your chippolata - lets hope the weaning helps

where's pf this weather?

Alieight · 25/01/2009 14:12

Well...I did 'do' my divemaster - he's sitting in the other room as I type .

TS So sorry to hear about lack of night out - must be really frustrating. As Dizzy says - maybe she was feeling a bit rotten and just wanted Mom? Adam is completely the opposite atm - perfectly happy with anyone but me, it seems. Unless he's hungry...

I was cheating with the 24oz btw - Adam was at nursery for a good chunk of the day on Friday when I managed that. Still, he only had 16 oz while he was away, so I guess I'm a little ahead of the game.

Bugger...men like burnt sausages, right? That'll teach me to cook and MN at the same time

cyteen · 25/01/2009 14:13

Sweet! CC I am booked on the 9.57...shall we meet by the buffet car?

Buckets · 25/01/2009 14:34

OMG 15 babies! Do they have a function room do you think? Only I'm wondering where all the pushchairs will go or if there'll be space for slingers to lay down any sleeping cargo and take a break. We're going to have to cordon off a whole chunk of restaurant.

TS have you thought about getting an easier sling for sitters to use? I would train anyone in the use of my adjustable ringsling in case of panicky baby. (Having said that it was my faux-ditzy MIL who babysat for my night out and it would have been pointles even showing her the sling, luckily Kurt had already gone to bed so she just had to do a late feed and change.) Sorry your night was ruined, it'll happen.

TwilightSurfer · 25/01/2009 14:37

all these new masks. took me a minute to acclimate.

thanks for the kindness. my "anal-self" has started a journal this morning. i'm going to see what reese's natural patterns are. maybe we just got her all mixed up and that made her mad. she's such a mild mannered child. last night was really a shocker.

thanks dizzy. no fushia but much much blonder. however i did see a girl with fushia hair at the mall last night. thought to myself, good choice...for not choosing it....would have clashed with my lime green wardrobe.

s&m encouragement is what we do best here (beware of other threads).

alieight burnt is always good in my book.

oh, captain thanks for pointing out the obvious to those hens. they really had some ruffled feathers.

buckets, i actually thought about my wrap in hindsight. will ponder that idea a little more. thanks.

Buckets · 25/01/2009 14:49

Sazzles have you worked out the quickest way to get from Waterloo to Liverpool St yet? Think it's about 30mins by tube and there are roadworks throughout Islington screwing up the buses I believe.

Tired today, DS1 threw up all over his bed twice in the night and tried to go down and play at 5am. Kurt woke a bit but DH was in London for the night so I just brought him in with me. Cross with DH as he is still not home from London and is out later this evening. Same old same old, communication is always our weak point. I may not have listened that hard at crucial times but I do feel he takes advantage of my busy/dizzy head and sneaks snippets of info under my nose, knowing full well I haven't taken it all in.

sleekitsambo303 · 25/01/2009 14:51

yah, glad you're coming to London cyteen

ts for your aborted night out ,bummer

cc loved your post on that weaning thread - geez, those ladies!! note to self, do not ever post anything about weaning on mn!

I am sat here counting birds in my garden - there's loads more here than at my previous house (for Big Garden Birdwatch for RSPCB). Normally we get jays so hoping some come along and I can add them to my list

sleekitsambo303 · 25/01/2009 14:53

RSPCB? eh? RSPB

sleekitsambo303 · 25/01/2009 14:54

royal society for the protection of circuit boards (have circuit boards on the brain after boiler and fridge ones broke)

weetimorousdizzybeastie · 25/01/2009 14:58

Royal Society for Protection of Chubby Babies

sleekitsambo303 · 25/01/2009 15:00

dp and me saw a flock of lapwings last week on the river thames, at Kingston - being chased by some gulls - an amazing sight. Reminded me of the name I wanted to call ds - Raven. dp vetoed saying, he/she'll be called raven mad. Still like it though.

sleekitsambo303 · 25/01/2009 15:01

lol dizzy

AngusSteaknife · 25/01/2009 15:19

oh I'm just not sleazy enough am I? I totally missed the "doing my divemaster".
Sigh.

Boob-bunny let me down today, Izzy did nap but only one hour, half hour, half hour. Mind you we had to put her cot into a different room as the PILs found mildew in the storage next to hers and want to air everything properly. Cue lots of rearanging of lots of things. The bedroom she is in now has gaps in the shutters so I am thinking the light might have kept her awake a bit.

Ah well, her bedtime is in an hour or so and then we try again tomorrow.

TwilightSurfer · 25/01/2009 15:28

Steaknife, give it time. Doing the divemaster was just a little taste of how this thread can go. You'll be quicker next round. PROMISE!

Reese has just learned to complete sit up in her bouncy seat. She tried earlier in her swing. You should have seen me get from one side of the house to the other in a milisecond before she toppled out on to her head. SAFETY SCANS REQUIRED NOW!! Mobile baby in the HOUSE.

TwilightSurfer · 25/01/2009 15:30

my log of reese's activities is showing she's requiring venue change every 15 minutes. how could i not have noticed that before. no wonder i get nothing done all day long.
