Hi - welcome to the new thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
plusonemore · 19/01/2009 15:04

shame you cant get in sooner- is it worth phoning them and asking them to let you know if they get any cancellations?

eandz · 19/01/2009 15:05

yeah, i have asked them. they said that they normally take 'new insurance' patients on mondays and they are booked until then.

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 15:17

oh bum. in the meantime what about some baby massage? the book i have ('infant massage'???) also has some movement exercise things, a bit like baby yoga i imagine. Things like bicycling legs, crossing legs and arms, etc. All goes to help stretch and develop and relax

becaroo · 19/01/2009 16:34

eandz Have you tried the jars of baby food? Perhaps he needs thicker purees?? I used Hipp Organic for ds1...they have a nice consistency and are, of course, organic. Apple and Pear was very popular here! How are you giving him the purees? I started off using my (clean!) finger and holding him on my lap so he didnt get too stressed.

Really dont know what else to suggest...Toby loves his baby massage and there are some techniques specifically for wind/colic/reflux which I could copy and send you??? I really feel for you though...its awful having to watch your child suffer, even if they will not remember it!!

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 16:43

anyone else's dc got blue/grey mouth? alfie almost constantly has, first noticed it when he had bronchiolitis, hes never really lost it. have put picture on my profile. hv and gp seem unconcerned, just wondering what the cause is

Debs75 do you need prescription for this cream?

eandz · 19/01/2009 18:27

plusonemore and becaroo
we've been doing the leg cycling and knee circle things in the sling.

he just won't be put down. not to sleep, eat or anything else. i've learned to change him and bathe him in the upright dangling position.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 19/01/2009 19:28

M has very pale skin and you can see his veins easily. He also goes blue around the mouth when he is cold, especially near the end of bathtime. He's fine with it though, so I haven't worried about it.

imoscarsmum · 19/01/2009 20:56

Hi all - been off mn for a bit, catching up on DP's accounts so we can get them filed by end of Jan (= looking after C all day and doing accounts at night. Je suis knackered!!)

Had a brief look at posts and can offer these useless bits of information wonderful words.

Enadz if it's bad reflux can you get GP to prescribe you "stay down formula". One mum from my mum & baby group had similar problems and got her SMA milk on prescription. It's formula that you can't buy in shops and have to get it from chemist. DP's 18yr old DD also had it when she was a baby and he got similar formula back then too.

Oh [whisper] DP and I have made love quite a few times while C is in room - luckily she's been asleep every time

Well done to all reporting more sleeps (won't tell you what C's sleeping now, you'll lynch me).
I got chatting to a mum in Starbucks today and I mentioned how a second baby is scary as there is no way it'll be as easy as C. She said both her LOs were very easy going, so it can happen!!!

We started waterbabies last friday and loved it!
C took to the pool like a natural and went underwater on her first lesson. I took her into shower after and said the 3 words to get her to hold her breath and then washed her face and she didn't cry and seemed to enjoy her first shower.
Only problem was after I'd got her dried and dressed I sat her in her car seat while I got dry/dressed and she did not like that one bit and cried/screamed. Felt v bad but nothing I could do as I had to get myself dressed. Those who go swimming - any tips on getting yourself dry whilst comforting DD?

Made a few new friends at mum & baby group. HV asked me at last meeting when I was weaning and when I said 26 weeks (I was only one) she said well done you!

Finally - DP is working out if he sells a kidney whether I can extend mat leave to July, rather than go back in April - how fab would that be. C would be almost 10 months old by then!!

Pacita · 19/01/2009 21:08

Eandz are you in London, or Manchester, or could you go for a day? I am taking Diego to the Osteopathic Centre for Children. It was recommended to me in a MN thread, and it sounds great. The consultations last an hour and they treat all sorts of big and small problems. It is a charity, so you are invited to pay what you feel you can afford.

If you are interested, I'll let you know how it goes.

Pacita · 19/01/2009 21:09

By the way, has anybody heard from Potxola recently? She's not been round for ages...

ninja · 19/01/2009 21:11

Imoscarsmum I dry and clothe myself first, then I know I'm done rather than that horrible 'my baby's crying and I need to get dressed ASAP aaaah' which inevitably means my skirt's tucked in my knickers/I forget to put knickers on .... scenario. The other think I would say is that inevitably both my DD's have been STARVING after a swim, so if you can organise a feed straight after and then do the dressing that might help.

It sounds like you had a good time though. I've been taking M in the shower from the start to get her used to the water on her face (and to justify me having a shower while she's awake) and she loves it.

Eandz sounds like you get the prize for having to be the most versatile. I have no words of wisdom except that Noah won't remember that he spent these weeks crying and it isn't doing him any harm.

Eandz M had exactly the same thing and gp prescribed infant gaviscon-have you tried that? it's worked amazingly for us-he still burps very aggressively, but no real sick like he had before. We also started using the Mam bottles, as I found Dr Brown didn't make any difference.
Hope that helps x

Hopefully · 19/01/2009 21:42

T has just spent an hour screaming for no apparent reason

CarrieBo · 19/01/2009 21:44

eandz I really feel for you. My friend's baby vomited all the time til he was 1, leaving puddles of sick everywhere he went. But now that he's upright all the time its completely stopped. In his case it was something to do with the valve that keeps your food down not having matured yet. I believe they can do surgery in extreme cases. Another friend took her baby to a cranial osteopath for colic and it cured him, and now he poos more often and more easily! So I know you have to wait for your appointment but it should be worth it.

maggotupdate I can't find the maggot! Friend is an EHO and he said to phone the food bit of Environmental Health coz they might send off the maggot and tell if its one that had been in there all along or got in since I opened the tin. But i can't send it off if I can't find it! Need to spread the formula over a large surface rather than rummaging through the tin. I wouldn't go to the papers unless I had seen the maggot on opening the tin for the very first time and could say with certainty that it was already contaminated. I've had it open double the recommended time, its travelled the length of the country over Christmas, and we get an organic veg box which often has 'friends' in it, so I can't say with any certainty that its the manufacturers fault. I do take your point though that it would be a change to do a 'downer' on ff in the press since they're often keen to slate bf!

digitalgirl · 19/01/2009 21:53

eandz are you getting lots of help?

oh dear hopefully could it be teething?

starlight how are your nips? I had that the other day and it passed.

A has been unable to feed for long without shoving his fingers in his mouth. This evening he wouldn't feed for long after his bath, so again with the teething powder and then put him in his cot to chew on his muslin. Had a chew for 20 minutes then fell alseep. Anyone else's lo love chewing on a muslin?

Meglet · 19/01/2009 21:54

yay! I'm back, I have my own pc now . I am having a mad catch up with FB and MN.

thank you for all your message of support. I probably sound like a heartless cow but life is a million times easier without DP here. No laundry left lying about, no bad moods, no hangovers. I'm rushed off my feet looking after DS and DD, but much happier. My family are fab and I have lots of help locally. I've spoken to ex P's family and they are as exasperated with him as I am, I do wonder if he's having a breakdown as he's not doing well. But I've tried to help him and he's thrown it back in my face so I'm not wasting any more energy on him.

carrie at maggots in the formula, thats not right.

starlight you would be a fab ante-natal teacher. good luck.

digitalgirl · 19/01/2009 21:56

well done meglet I'm really very very pleased for you!

Meglet · 19/01/2009 22:06

it is nice to be back. I'll have to work extra hard at keeping my house tidy now I have MN again .

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 22:08

meglet really nice hearing that you're doing well! I'm dreading this week as DP is off "up north" for a funeral and will be away for 3 days, and he's very hands on (and the house still a mess....) so I'm in awe!

DG M chews on anything! while I put her sleepsuits back on after a nappy change, I find wet toes as she's sucking on them while I change her, any cloth will do really, tights, her brother's pjs, her rabbit's ears, and if nothing available, then she's onto her sleeves!

and she's so attached again! won't go with anyone a part from me and DP, but if she's ahving a "cry attack" then it's just me... hopefully only a phase...

Pacita · 19/01/2009 22:27

Meglet it's great to hear you sound so positive. Hurray for not picking up anyone else's laundry, I say! Glad to have you back full time so that you can slack on your housework like the rest of us .

Ok, ladies, I need advice re: nipplegate. I have a very small and inconsequential looking red spot in my nipple, but it is unbelievably sore. When D is feeding it feels like someone is extinguishing a fag on my breast. Any ideas what this may be and how to get rid of it? It is a small, red spot towards the edge of the areola. Not nice.

Hopefully, sorry about your LO's crying attack. Sometimes it's just because they like experimenting with the sound of their voice. Did he sound in any way distressed?

eandz · 19/01/2009 23:12

cat811 yeah i did try infant gaviscon a while back (before it became too unbearable). i feel like there is an answer somewhere and i just cant seem to find it.

carriebo yeah, i've printed out an article that talks about that (pyloric stenosis) to take to the gp's with me. thing is, i've been to the gp's 7 times in the last 4 days so when i called them to make an appointment they told me they would call me back with the time. (no call yet). i'll just show up tomorrow all day and be a nuisance. i hope for their sake they see me right away. or else me and noah will wail in the waiting room.
