and keep him in the upright position too after feeding which i think you are doing in a sling?

carrie would you be willing to contact Baby Milk Action about the maggot in the milk powder? I asked for advice on this to the ABM counsellors and one HV/certified bf counsellor suggested contacting Baby Milk Action and the Sun/Daily Mail.

Before anyone goes can I say that baby milk action is about safe feeding for all babies. If maggots can be in the formula in the UK then it begs asking what else there may not be. As for contacting the papers, they are quick to report all manner of bf stories so why not a formula one where the safety of babies is at risk. Especially in view of the problems with melamine in China and a lot of people being lulled in the sense of false security that UK milk is perfectly safe?

Lol and congratulations at your PFB moment lollipop, I will probably be sending out announcement cards when T finally bothers to roll!

Eandz sending hugest sympathy your way - it must be so incredibly difficult when you get problems on top of the normal challenges of caring for a small baby. Can you demand a second opinion/a referral to a paediatrcian who might be able to help? Projectile after every feed sounds unpleasant at best.

T slept from 11:45pm to 4:30am this morning! DP gave him a bottle, he stirred briefly at 6:30 and I stuck a muslin in his mouth for a few minutes (he sucks on one to go to sleep, but doesn't have the co-ordination to put one in his mouth himself), and then didn't hear from him again until 7:30. Really hope we're turning the corner on the non-sleeping.

foxytocin · 19/01/2009 08:52

but the big Q, hopefully, is what you will do when he sleeps for 12 hrs on the trot.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 09:25

she'll spend her time on MN or watch late night movies like I've done these past 2 nights! didn't bother feeding M on sat night as she's been struggling to have 2oz so I was fed up of wasting precious BM. thought it was a fluke, but she did 12 hrs again last night, only gave her dummy or ignored her little noises and she settled herself. so the freezer is filling up fast, as I might as well carry on expressing at usual time, you never know. But last night I made DS some porridge with EBM from 3 nights before and when it was ready he said "what's this smell? he smells like my baby", but only told him after he'd finished!

eandz sorry to hear about the vomiting, M occasionally does it, she finishes a feed and then it comes straight out, drenching both of us and the floor normally, just think she's just a bit gready sometimes, though it only seem to happen at the lunchtime or afternoon feed. but nothing like your poor noah... hope you find a solution soon

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 09:43

sorry to hear bout the sickyness eandz I have no advice i'm afraid other than keep going back to your GP if you are not happy- you know your baby best xx

how annoying- have just leaked for the first time in about 8 weeks! guess its a sign Alfie is cutting back on night feeds though- last night he slept from 7.30 til 3, feed, then til 6. Hurrah, thats better!! It so funny when I think about it cos I was a real Gina follower with ds1 (ff) and was convinced I would have routine sorted by about 8 weeks this time. Dont know if its because ds2 is bf or because he is just a different baby but 15 weeks and still every day is different!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 09:58

plus - DS1 was on GF routine too, though he naturally fell into it the day he was born basically, and thought it'd be a breeze this time, but DD is definetly different!!

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 10:00

also, anyone else still not had period? Am loving this side effect of bf!!

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 10:01

sunflower ds2 fell into the routine at a couple of days old and i was much too smug for a couple of days cos since then uts been downhill!!

C slept from 9.30 to 6.30 on Friday, there was a brief whine at 3.00 but she didn't even properly wake up. Fantastic!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 19/01/2009 10:35

plus nothing yet, had my first after 5.5 monhts with DS - he was bf, though by then he'd been going through the night for some time and was having 3 meals a day on top of his millk. and concidentally it started the day after I finally plucked the courage to "do the deed" , so maybe I should wait even longer this time (not letting DP near me anyway as still recovering...)

eandz · 19/01/2009 11:18

foxy yeah i always keep him in the sling.

we got a jumperoo for him to play in since he's always rigid anyway and doesn't like to sit for too long.

is it wrong that we have to wear our baby when he try to make love?

Hi eandz really good to hear from you and it sounds like you're coping amazingly given the circumstances...

We've had a very similar situation here with Anya - she's also on ranitidine and domperidone after a trip to A&E. It wasn't the vomiting that seemed to bother her and us so much, but the screaming in pain for hours on end . However things have improved significantly now that we've increased the dose a bit and it can take a while to kick in - the paediatricians tend to start them off on the lowest possible dose, have you asked to have it increased?

We've also found a bumbo seat useful for putting her down in an upright position... now we know why she's never been comfortable lying on her back. Hang in there my paediatrician friend tells me it's very rare for it to continue once they're weaning and sitting up. If things really don't improve then you can consider weaning early (but am not recommending this!)

Big hugs to all of you x

lollipopmother · 19/01/2009 11:42

EandZ - Have you spoken to Dr re: reflux? Maybe it's that?

LittleConnie · 19/01/2009 11:50

I don't think they would have prescribed those meds if they didn't strongly suspect reflux... indigestion is another way of saying reflux really but doesn't make it sound as unpleasant as it really it for the babies...

eandz · 19/01/2009 11:57

yeah, sorry i should have been clearer. they've already said it was reflux.

with regards to the bumbo, Noah goes into it, sits for maybe 2-5 minutes without freaking out and then starts to arch his back over the back to get out. i've started a thread about this in breast and bottle feeding. feel free to join in.

Pacita · 19/01/2009 12:06

hi all,

haven't had a chance to post for ages!

Starlight , go girl! You'll be brilliant at it.
Hopefully Duly impressed by your 5 hours. Diego fed at 11:30, then 3, then 7:15 which is not bad at all...but I was completely insomniac last night and spent most of the night awake. Why oh why??
Eandz, really sorry about the reflux. I hope it passes soon, and would agree that a referral to the paediatrician may be in order.

Sass I'm really glad you decided to go for the no lactose experiment. It really is not that hard. Am very curious to see if you get good results. I have to say, now that Diego has a cold, the eczema has come back in his legs and he's scratching like mad, but it's still nowhere near as bad as it was. Let me know how you get on.

So Diego has a streaming nose and watery eyes. He was due for his 2nd lot of jabs today, but due to the cold I've been advised to wait. NOt only is he getting his jabs late, but the gap between each round is more than 4 weeks. Does that matter?

Debs75 · 19/01/2009 13:42

For allyou with excema prone babies i have just been given a new cream from the docs. It is called doublebase and is a pump action gel type cream. It is absolutely brilliant, have been using it for 5 days and skin is improving so much. Is also safe to use on babies so have used a bit on Robyns cradle cap and it looks loads better.

DebiTheScot · 19/01/2009 13:59

eandz I don't know a lot about it but have you thought about a cranial osteopath? I have a friend who used one for her 1st baby as she wouldn't bring up her wind, was very rigid, uncomfortable etc and she said it sorted her baby out after a couple of sessions.

plusonemore · 19/01/2009 14:22

debi i was thinking the same thing for eandz, cranial osteo would be just right i reckon, worth a go at any rate

becaroo · 19/01/2009 14:35

eandz Agree with debi about the cranial osteo - wrth a try.

I am going to get in trouble for this, but have you considered weaning him?

Hopefully · 19/01/2009 14:39

Foxy if he ever sleeps for 12 hours on the trot, I will spend the following 12 hours celebrating with a bottle of champagne!

No period here yet, hoping it will stay away for a while - at least until we've decided whether we want a short or a long age gap between children!

eandz · 19/01/2009 14:55

i have an appointment with a cranial osteopath the week after next it's the soonest with the place my insurance will cover.

becaroo
i don't think anyone will flame you, different babies have different needs and everyone from the gp to the hv to just about anyone who has witnessed Noah wigging out has suggested weaning. i am doing it very very slowly. so far i've been making the purees soo thin they are practically clear soup. but to be honest, it's not really working any wonders. and i'm not sure how to proceed.
