jenbot does your dh know what straighteners are...?!
can't remember if I already told you all this story but my dh was chuffed last week that he noticed a friend's haircut, til I pointed out it was her new wig coz she's having chemo

Barnpot · 02/02/2009 21:33

hi ladies, yes the councelling is fab, it has really centred me, ans the flash backs have greatly reduced, so all worth while.
starlight your totally right i thought my obsession with the weight charts had subsided I was convinced he was weighing in the 12lb area, and it was just a shock when they said he'd only put on 11oz in 4 weeks.
but hes grown more length (hes nearly on the chart)
Oh and darling those high chairs are divine but simply dont go with my colour scheme!
well theres loads of snow in sunny west yorkshire I've not gone out to measure but i'd say its at least a foot high.
I had to go out so put els in his snow suit which I thought very appropriate!
take care x

imoscarsmum · 02/02/2009 22:08

Off to Wakefield tomorrow ladies (snow allowing) so won't be around till next week probably. Happy week!

DebiTheScot · 02/02/2009 22:19

ok, switching comp off now so if you can still get there tomorrow hopefully then you should still all meet up and I'll just wait and see what the roads are like in the morning.

someone text me and let me know if you do decide not to go though please.

ninja · 02/02/2009 22:57

Have got to page 29 but will read the rest tomorrow - when I'll tell you about my amazing underwater swimming baby (and hopefully beable to scan in the photos to prove it!!)

Ugh, T decided to start the day at 6:20 today, and nothing on earth would persuade him to go back to sleep! On the plus side, he got through to 4:30am without needing his arms being tucked back under the blanket - first time this has happened since we stopped swaddling him.

Thanks for the reassurance about the weight everyone. HV was actually v good - no mention of early weaning, or more formula! She did suggest I make a doc's appointment for him to have a urine test, as I mentioned he occasionally has v strong smelling wee, which she said might be worth investigating, especially when the constipation is considered as well.

We have a very aesthetically pleasing dusting of snow this morning, but it is still apparently enough to prevent any trains running (have facebooked all you Basingstoke people about postponing), which is tedious. Does give me a chance to clean up the house though - sis, mother and step dad have been here all weekend as sis is going abroad today for another 6 months (she comes back once or twice a year 'for good' and then leaves about a month later - this has been going on for 3 years and counting!)

digitalgirl · 03/02/2009 08:29

snap hopefully A woke up same time and despite nappy change and a feed refused to go back to sleep. I wonder if we had the heating on too high as he was very unsettled last night.

My mum goes back home today. I've had luxurious lie ins everyday since Thursday because of her. It makes so much sense to have (helpful) family around when you have a baby. I really enjoy being at home with A rather than just coping. Oh well, back to coping again for a few days (I'll get us back into a semi-routine and feel very proud of myself for doing so).

Debs75 · 03/02/2009 09:05

Where's all the snow gone. Woke up yesterday to about 3" of crunchy snow.(East Yorkshire) and panicked a bit about ds not going to school. It snowed throughtout the day but by teatime was freezing rain and now it has all gone and we have a lovely bright blue sky. Oh well at least the dog will get a walk today.

Debs75 · 03/02/2009 09:25

Foxy I have the sleepy wrap just a really long stretchy fabric wrap which I wear Robyn on my front. Do you know if I could wear her on my back?

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 09:33

hmmm well after several good nights last night alfie woke( and was fed) at 2 and then 5, wouldnt settle after that so i was up at 6.

Lots of little things were different yesterday and cant decide which one is responsible!
a) He had more sleep in the morning than usual as we took ds to nursery and then went to tesco so he slept in all car journeys (he had less sleep at lunch though)
b)He was particularly sick before bedtime
c)I didnt put saline drops in his nose or snufflebabe on his chest or put the vapouriser on
d) I ate onion humous for lunch yesterday

I am thinking its maybe b), have been wondering about how much he is sick for a while now so gonna take him to GP today to see if maybe its reflux. How do they diagnose it? Is it just by going on what I say?

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 10:23

and
e) i gave him calpol before bed as i'm pretty sure he is teething and he seemed bothered by it

ninja · 03/02/2009 10:26

Hi again,

We have LOADS of snow - we always do! Sadly DD1's school is not cancelled as we were planning to go sledging but I did pull her to school in the sledge .

Center Parcs was FAB, DD1 LOVED the pool, slides etc and I'll put the photos on my profile of my little water baby Maebh who was swimming underwater, it was so magical.

Jenbot · 03/02/2009 10:40

Carriebo That story about your DH!
I hope your friend is OK.
You know, I don't think my DH has ever seen straighteners, but he knows theoretically what they do.

ninja · 03/02/2009 10:41

Wow ninja That's amazing.

How did you get your lo to swim underwater?

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 03/02/2009 10:56

aaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwww, ninja, they both look so cute!

DebiTheScot · 03/02/2009 10:57

wow amazing. How did you do it? i want to do it too.

ninja · 03/02/2009 11:07

OK - this is how you do it.

Start with the dunk - I've done this LOADS of times. count down or have a trigger word, I go 3...2...1 BLOW IN THE FACE which gets your baby to hold their breath (you can try this on dry land first to convince yourself) then dunk under the water starting at arms length and draw under the water onto your chest above water.

When you're confident with the dunk when you put them under water you can let go and they WILL swim towards you - babies are programmed to do this. (Just don't foregt to pick them up in your amazement!)

I think those doing the water babies course will do this, but you can do it yourself (if you dare). It was amazing to see though.

SnowlightMcKenzie · 03/02/2009 11:10

ninja How old can you do this until do you know?

Jenbot · 03/02/2009 11:23

Aw ninja what lovely pictures!

Ponymum · 03/02/2009 11:26

ninja those photos of Maebh under water are amazing! I must must must find a water babies thing around here somewhere to take DD to.

ninja · 03/02/2009 11:32

Star/snowlight - until they lose their swim reflex - I think it's about 9-12 months. I'll doublecheck.

Ponymum · 03/02/2009 11:44

So embarrassed about my (over)reaction to the snow yesterday. In my defence DH is away overseas atm, we live very remote, have no mobile coverage etc. I got myself in a panic watching the late news, and the met office issued a red alert warning for our area - which included a warning about possible power outages (thanks guys ). Then I panicked that DH wouldn't be able to get back here from Heathrow when he arrives on Wed, and I sent him a late night panic email about having warm clothes in the car and telling him about my emergency preparations at this end... To put this in context, DH is a trained mountain rescue team member, and he is flying back from Canada with luggage including all his skiing gear, a GPS device, survival blanket, etc... and of course I woke this morning to blue sunny skies and rapidly disappearing snow.

Does motherhood make you panic more? I used to be tough and invincible! FGS, I once climbed a snow covered valcano, dug a snow cave, and slept in it for the night! Yesterday I was scared to take two steps out of the front door. I suppose this must be some sort of learning experience...

CarrieBo · 03/02/2009 13:50

swimming I know that with our classes you have to start before a year old so they still don't breathe in under water. Dd has been swimming since she was 3 months old, and at nearly 2 if you say '(name) ready, go' then she'll hold her breath. We do it for pouring water over her head in the bath, and she holds her breath to go underwater at swimming.
Beautiful pictures ninja

Meglet · 03/02/2009 13:51

ponymum I did panic more when I had DS, but I've chilled out since I've had DD. I figured that I can't hide under the duvet and I have to go out and face the big bad world.

We went to gym tots this morning as the Basingstoke meet up was cancelled. DS was playing with the toddlers basketball net and DD watched everyone and sicked up on my sleeve .
