Hi - welcome to the new thread!

ponymum yes when you become a mum (for the first time) you become a complete wuss. Second time round you chuck 'em in at the deep end (literally).

Our snow's starting to melt so we'll have to try and go sledging after school today.

OK, I promise to not be such a wuss in future. So much for surviving my 4 day trial as a single parent.

I am struggling with finding the most basic thing and may need some help please... a cosytoes for the main part of the buggy. We were a bit spoiled as PIL gave us a Wallaboo footmuff for the car seat, and I am now so attached to it that I really want the next size up for taking DD out in the buggy. But it costs £60! I am trying really hard to find a cheaper alternative. I could go for the OBaby, but the zip only goes down one side and around up the other side. One of the best features of the Wallaboo is you can so quickly flip down both sides when you go into a hot shop, then quickly zip it back up warm as you go outside again. Any ideas for something as good, stylish, and snuggly, but cheaper? (MN doesn't do footmuff reviews).

DebiTheScot · 03/02/2009 15:30

I built another snow creature today. Dh was laughing at me from the cozy indoors as I struggled to lift its head onto its body! He was off work again as it was closed again (a bit of an over reaction me thinks but hey he got an extra couple of days off)

DS1 has been a devil child today so maybe its a good job we didn't go to Basingstoke. he seems to be really tired all the time at the moment but don't really know why.

Jenbot · 03/02/2009 15:38

I could do with some inspiration ladies. My friend is getting her two sons christened this summer. One is a baby, one is 7. What can I get for christening presents?
Um...

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 16:01

jenbot boys or girls? depending on sex and age and birth month what about jewellery with birth stone? Or really lovely book like complete winnie the pooh?

took alfie to docs cos of reflux and also because he is still struggling with his breathing since first getting a cold a 2wks and then bronchiolitis. She thinks his chest is a bit wheezy and has prescribed an inhaler to see if that helps. She hasnt prescribed anything for the reflux as she says best to treat one thing at a time. She also says its hard to treat as he is breastfed. Gonna search previous threads and maybe post in health or feeding but does anyone know if there is anything i can do to help reduce the amount of sick? Does it make a difference what I eat for example? So frustrating when i spend ages feeding, he sicks it all up and then wakes in the night cos he is hungry!!! Oh and anyone any knowledge or experience of using inhaler for someone so young? Seem to remember from first aid training that salbutomol cant do you any harm in small doses but what about for little lungs? thanks ladies

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 16:36

sorry jen just read your message again and saw you put quite clearly sons. Dont get them jewellery
Money box?

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 16:47

or what about these blankets ?

Ponymum · 03/02/2009 16:50

plusone hope the inhaler helps

jenbot what about a personalised lullaby CD? These are really lovely: Lullaby Babies

becaroo · 03/02/2009 17:58

plusone Toby is on an atrovent inhaler at the moment because of the cough he has had on and off since he was 5 weeks old...going back to docs next week. These inhalers dont do any harm, and can help very little ones by opening their airways to help them breathe more easily...do make sure you have the mask fitted tightly on his face though, as the stuff should not go in their eyes...HTH!

Had a REALLY bad day today...didnt sleep last night and then school run in the snow and ice, then Toby has been a NIGHTMARE...had an hours screaming fit this afternoon and he is usually such a happy smiley baby Feel very tearful and sick....oh, and AF has arrived so am expecting another migraine.....want to go to bed and not wake up for a month!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 03/02/2009 18:23

{{{}}} Becaroo, hopefully tomorrow will be better for you. Get ye to bed with some paracetamol and chocolate.

Hopefully · 03/02/2009 19:17

Poor you Becaroo. Hope you manage to get some rest.

Ponymum the Wallaboo looks really snuggly and lovely - bet you won't be able to find a cheaper one that lives up to the standard! The one we have on the bugaboo is really cosy and lovely (and insanely expensive as well, thanks PIL!) - put T in the bugaboo seat bit rather than carrycot yesterday and he couldn't even see over the top of the cosytoes... Rather cute though.

becaroo · 03/02/2009 19:17

Thanks for the hug ILTMIMI....sniff...I am such a wuss! Really need to pull myself together...

Hopefully · 03/02/2009 19:19

I am feeling blue this evening about my stitches situation - it's not that I'm desperate to leap on DP this very moment, but it's annoying to think that I really need to heal a bit more before we can attempt anything, and it's basically guaranteed to hurt when we do try it. Also like the idea of a small age gap (especially if I'm going back to work - want to be on maternity leave again asap!) and if I have to have any repair work done then it will be months of healing all over again. pah

foxytocin · 03/02/2009 19:22

debs here is a baby about the age of ours i didn't choose this one for the mum's fashion statement.

she does a good description of getting her on her back to start with.

with the long tails you'll have it may be trickier at first. if you search yuotube with 'wrapsody' there are lots of vids with stretchy wraps.

happy wrapping.

Meglet · 03/02/2009 19:45

sorry your stitches are still not healed up hopefully. Have you been to your GP to see if they can help, or are they just healing very slowly .

I am slowly going insane with this snowy weather. I want to get out and play , but DS refuses to play in it and as ex P doesn't appear very often I can't get away from the DC's. I'd give my right arm for a night out with a glass (or two!) of wine and a snowball fight on the way home.

foxytocin · 03/02/2009 20:13

I've put a couple pics on my profile for now.

Ponymum · 03/02/2009 20:15

hopefully sorry about your stitches situation. Sending healing vibes.

I think you are right about the wallaboo. I am currently trying to figure out how to sell stuff on ebay in an attempt to earn enough to justify the purchase. Yes ladies, I have taken photos of all the frightening girly pink stuff DD was given in readiness to sell it (oo, don't all rush at once!). Sadly I have looked at comparable items on ebay and have calculated I might earn about £10 for all the effort. Really, should I bother?

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 20:30

Thanks for the reassurance becaroo, sorry youre having a bad day. Dont know what your migraines are like but I found the patches that you stick on your head (cool and soothe) are really soothing alongside the meds of course!

plusonemore · 03/02/2009 20:46

is it sad that I am excited that my little thread about reflux in the bottle and bfing topic is featured in the talk box on the homepage?!!!!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 03/02/2009 22:08

Hopefully, sorry about your stiches, feel the same . It took 6 months first time round, and this time I feel it'll take even longer...

becaroo and meglet sorry you're having a bad day too..

splishsplosh · 04/02/2009 00:24

Plusonemore-just read your other thread...I've been wondering about dd2,as she sicks all day long. But I'mnot sure I can bear to go dairy free.
How is reflux diagnosed anyway - did your GP just think that it's reflux as vomiting is so frequent?

plusonemore · 04/02/2009 07:02

splish Yes and because of arching the back. I found this good article on LaLeche that says symptoms are

spitting up more than three times a day, spitting up more than a tablespoon, pain associated with vomiting, crying after feedings, crying for more than three hours a day, back arching and apnea (a temporary suspension of breathing), or cyanosis (a bluish-gray discoloration of the skin caused by lack of oxygen).

Alfie also has the dicoloration, and I wonder about the apnea- at night he does 3 or 4 breaths and then there is a little pause of a couple os seconds. This might be normal though I dont know. The whole article is UsersRachelDocumentslli gerd and the breastfed baby.mht here if you want a read. am already missing my morning cup of tea but gonna get a milk substitute today.

plusonemore · 04/02/2009 07:13

sorry here didnt work cos i'd saved it

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 04/02/2009 08:34

hopefully - sorry to hear about your situation. What is your situation at the mo? Are you waiting for a referal to a Gyn? Have you had an appt with a Gyn and awaiting a date for treatment? I'm not being nosey , I'm just trying to think of a way for you to get this sorted asap.

Hopefully · 04/02/2009 09:51

Thanks for your thoughts everyone - it really does make me feel better!
My lovely GP has been really helpful. Current situation is treating the (sorry, TMI!) small amount of swelling and pile left over from the birth, and then seeing how uncomfortable I am after that. Also going to try natural remedies like vitamin E oil. Plan is to review the situation in 6 weeks or so and see how uncomfortable I am then - GP is very happy to refer me to a gyn if I'm still uncomfortable then. I really really want to avoid more work, so hoping that it will just heal over time. it's not agonising by any means, just a nagging soreness, so I'm hoping that with more time it will just heal properly.

Ponymum give in, get the wallaboo! Sell some of the vile frilly girl's clothes and put the money towards it, and cling on to the thought that on a cost-per-use basis a footmuff is one of the most economical things you'll buy for DD, so it's worth getting a good one.

Foxy your DD looks so gorgeous, chilling in the sling! Are you back in the UK now? You seem to be posting at more civilised times!
