Hi - welcome to the new thread!

babies and their inconsiderate exploding-poos-timing

CarrieBo · 21/01/2009 13:58

I want to come and meet you all on the 3rd but basingstoke is too far from york

meglet ds has been sitting up in the phil and teds for a while . I did take out the cocoon and for a while have him lying flat in the pram bit just in the footmuff so he was still snuggly. Now I actually put him in the top bit of the buggy but reclined with the zips, and dd (21months) hops in and out of the bottom. I saw someone at the park with the p&t vibe and got major buggy envy.

Poor ds is suffering after his jabs. Woke for a feed at 6:20am then threw it up all over me while still in the bf position. nice. Quite cranky today too, poor thing.

Meglet · 21/01/2009 14:10

carrie I have to play about with the P&T set up today. Poor DD will scream the town down if she has to lie flat anymore. However once she is sitting up it will give me a good excuse to buy her a buggy snuggle .

Meglet · 21/01/2009 14:15

lolly I can't do 27th jan but can do 3rd feb in the mornings. DS has music on tuesdays and we meet my old ante-natal gang in the afternoons, but I can come along with just DD in the morning.

Jenbot · 21/01/2009 14:47

starlight yes, I was talking to someone IRL about the BF meeting yesterday and I have been told you all sit about eating cake, so I'll come next week!
Oh actually, darn it, I'm in this study where a psychology student comes round and films me BFing, she was meant to come tomorrow but called earlier and asked if she could come Monday instead and I said yes.

Totally forgot the other thing. Might have to leave it to the next one now.

It is a bit weird tbh, being in the study, I have to pretend she's not there filming me, but you so can't! For example, you can't chat the nonsense you do to your baby when a stranger is moving about your living room zooming in and out. I feel too stupid to be going "Who is mummy's tasty yummy baby-pie? I don't think it's me... You look like you might be the most delicious one around here!" or whatever. Haha.
Also, I feel guilty if I put the TV on.

Hey everyone, I have totally fallen in love with the idea of making a baby treasure box. I read about them on a thread on MN the other day - you put all natural and everyday items / different materials in a big box for your baby to look through and play with under supervision, like a loofah, a shell, a bit of leather, a bit of velvet, a wooden spoon, a balloon whisk, a pine cone, a silk scarf, a string of beads etc.
I thought it sounded a really nice thing to have.

eandz · 21/01/2009 14:54

sunflower
no miracle diet. it's all healthy eating plus calorie counting and exercise. plus vitamins.

digitalgirl · 21/01/2009 15:21

I am also trying to eat healthier. I am eating less cake and pudding. We have no fancy biscuits in the house. I've cut down on my hot chocolate intake when I take A out for a walk.

Oops, can hear him waking from nap.

eandz · 21/01/2009 16:58

it's been over 3 months since i've even had the pleasure of having sugar in my tea.

DG
you've made me reminiscent.

potxola · 21/01/2009 17:23

HOLA! Sorry I haven't been around. Very busy with my 2 little ones.
DIET? What is that?
I have become a sling addict, well I was already one! and Lorea even has her favourite. She only slleps with me or in a sling.
SHE HAS WOKEN UP!!!!!
HUGSSSSSSSS

digitalgirl · 21/01/2009 18:15

eandz sugar in tea is overrated anyway , you must be very proud of yourself for having lost all that weight and managing to cram exercise in on top of dealing with Noah.

A hasn't woken between his 11:30 and 3/4am feed for the last few nights. So now I'm getting more sleep and as a result feel sleepier when I do feed him. Regardless, I've now got lots more energy during the day. I've been going out more, tackling the steep north london hills rather than getting the bus. Can't seem to persuade myself to go for a run yet...but I'm doing crunches and lunges every morning after my shower. Trying to shift the tummy and hips so I can at least fit into my pre-pregnancy jeans.

jenbot we have a baby treasure basket. i raided Wilkos / pound shops and charity shops for all the bits. Matalan did the wire framed basket. DS still likes it and I know DD will love it when she is a little bigger.

I am having a huge amount of fun doing bedtime stories with both of them now. We lie on the floor so I can hold the book above us. Current favourite is 'Tiger who came to tea'. i'll be able to recite off by heart soon.

Debs75 · 21/01/2009 19:53

Who is it that goes to waterbabies?
Have decided to get the wetsuit and swwim nappies then had another look on website to get the no. to book and thought i would check the prices. Is it really over £10 each lesson and the course is around 40 lessons?
I really want to take her as we all do swimming and i'm not too confident but my inner scrooge is choking on her tea and cake.

Eandz great news on losing 3 stone, i've put on 11 lbs since having Robyn which is what she weighs. Haave gone back to shapes weigh club and have nearly 5 stone to lose as well. Have given me 2 years as i have zero will power and if i drank like i eat i would be an alcoholic with liver failure
Don't buy biscuits anymore but best friend does so usually get my fix there.

Hopefully · 21/01/2009 20:13

Starlight my thoughts exactly! I have never ever been able to motivate myself to do crunches etc in the morning. Although running wasn't so alarming . I usually have a shower in the evening when DP's in, if I can squeeze it in between feeds. I hate showering when I'm alone with T as I have a fear of him going into melt down for some reason (he never has...) and having to leap out of the shower and console him. I have stopped buying custard creams (mostly), but have replaced them in recent weeks with homemade ginger cake, banana bread, iced cinnamon buns and bread and houmus. For some reason I have convinced myself that these things are all healthy as I am making them.

Jenbot the filming sounds seriously offputting! T is such a nosy little so and so she'd probably just end up filming my breast while T gawped around at her.

DP is upstairs attempting to get T into his cot - he's (T, not DP) not a million miles away from growing out of his pram carry cot, so he's going to have to go in the cot at some point! There keeps being long stretches of calm silence - DP holding T - followed by screeches - DP putting T in the cot for 30 seconds before lifting him out again. I suspect he may end up in the carry cot. Why on earth is he happy in the cot for all other sleeps, and not this one? Someone enlighten me!

Hopefully · 21/01/2009 20:14

Debi lol at the inappropriate poo timing! Loads of people said I was looking really well at baby group today. I didn't like to inform them it was because it was the first time since I started going there that I have had time to put on make up before leaving the house, and iron my trousers.

You IRON????!

starlight trying not to ROFL at the thought of one of us joining the MU!

meglet we're discovering that book too after dd got it in her latest bookstart bag. I'm also trying to get her into the gruffalo, but she's loving the one with the duck and that truck that got stuck in the muck. Yaaaawn. ALthough it is quite cute at the same time! She was given 6 mini postman pat books today but gets upset that she can't carry them all at the same time!

I'm being a bit of a queen of the kitchen tonight, as whenever someone at our church has a baby, we organise a two week rota of evening meals for them so they don't have to cook, and tomorrow I'm cooking for the latest family (she's a MNer!). Also my neighbour with high bp never got round to cooking for her freezer while on maternity leave coz she's on enforced bedrest, so I've cooked double the amount of shepherds pie and she can have it. Baby could be induced any day now...tooooo exciting!

ninja · 21/01/2009 20:35

Jenbot funnily enough I have a piece of paper in front of me with 'Treasure Box' on it.

Hopefully I take M in the shower with me (although I try and do the washing bit v. quickly first). She has no problem getting her face all wet, and I can convince myself that my luxury of a shower combines an experience plus nappy off time for M!!

Debs your local swimming pool may have a considerably cheaper mum and baby session, most of the ones around here do. Some of the children's centres have subsidised ones.

Meglet I want a buggy snuggle too - I never had a nice one with DD1 but this time I think I'll splash out.

ninja · 21/01/2009 20:40

I agree - an Iron, what's that?

It reminds me of the time when DD1 saw a duster and said 'I know what that is, I've seen one at nursery' ]

Wow Carrie what a good idea. I have to say I was cooking tea 12 hours after M was born, how nice it would have been to have meals.

Even better (and more embarrasing for my parents) when I was a child we went into a junk shop and said 'oh look, a dining room' and also said that Dandelions were 'daddy's favourite flower'. ooops

debs our swimtots lessons work out at about £8.60 each, plus cost of wetsuit and swim nappies. I don't know what your financial circumstances are, but I'm happy to pay coz the ideas they have for activities in the water are leagues above what I would think of to do with the kids if I took them on my own to the pool. Dd has fantastic water safety (apart from the bit where I nearly lost her underwater on saturday ) and is making good progress learning to swim and she's not even 2 yet. Also with ours you can miss one a term for illness/holiday without losing your money.

CarrieBo · 21/01/2009 21:07

Its a slippery slope starlight, that's all I'm saying...!

Just realised that my post to debs makes it looks like I'm happy to pay for her swimming lessons!! Believe me I would if I could

imoscarsmum · 21/01/2009 21:07

Debs75 Waterbabies is about £10 per lesson but (IMO) worth it as it's in warmer hotel pools and very small classes. Also, you don't have to sign up for 40 weeks - I can't cos going back to work so have only signed up for 10 weeks initially. I'm hoping I'll learn enough to take DD to local pool.

Debithescott (think it's you) just seen your lovely video on facebook. Your DS2 looks as if he adores his brother! So cute.

Hopefully re showering. I normally shower whilst DP gets dressed in morning, so if C cries he is there. Alternatively, you could put him in his bouncer by the shower door so he can see you. That works for us.

Also, I've been putting minimal make up on since c was born. [whispers - even if she was crying I would take 30sec with a dab of lippy]. I need it to function and would rather do that than, say, iron my top.

Question - how do you know if LO is ready to go into pushchair and, for that matter, whether you can remove head hugger in car seat. C doesn't really fit in headhugger but she looks tiny when I remove it and when I did take her out without headhugger, she slept in car seat with her head to one side. Any experiences/tips gratefully accepted!

Hopefully · 21/01/2009 21:09

I heart ironing. Honestly! One of the annoying things about small babies is not having the time to iron. Nothing so pleasing as big piles of neatly pressed clothes (DP finds it hilarious that I iron underpants so they fold nicer. He found it even more hilarious when my mother visited and ironed all of his pants too).

Starlight carry cot won't fit in cot, but actually I could try putting him in his carrycot in his room, which would at least be a half way house. I think actually the biggest problem is that we're trying to settle him, whereas when he's in the carry cot he's left to drift off in his own time.
Does anyone else's baby seem to be perfectly happy on freakishly little sleep? T has about 3.5 hours during the day, and perhaps another 8 over night, and is totally content, and furious at me trying to settle him earlier in the evening. Suppose I should be grateful that his extra awake time is in the evening rather than 3am!

I've been thinking of a treasure basket too! Mainly because I like my sitting room to look aesthetically pleasing, and I find a nice attractive basket of improving things for him to explore (curtain rings, spoons, fabric etc) far more pleasing to look at than loads of plastic crap. i'm such a great mother.
