Hi - welcome to the new thread!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hello all, it's been a long and knackered day. Here is to hoping for a good night sleep. Finally. Please.

For you ladies who are FF, I would like to pick your brains: I'm still exclusively BFing but as I am crap at expressing, I would like to know that there is a fall back position to feed the baby. How do you know what formula to buy? Which would you recommend for a baby with eczema who is likely to be lactose sensitive? And can you buy the hypoallergenic stuff without prescription?

Thanks!

imoscarsmum I have moved Diego to the pushchair already, as he looked crammed in the newborn nest. He seems a lot happier, and as he is padded by his snowsuit, he does not seem to need extra support.

hopefully I take D into the bathroom with me. He watches me shower and finds the sound of water so soothing he sometimes is asleep by the time I come out!

You ladies who iron and cook make me feel ashamed of my lack of domestic dedication

Foxy re: sore nipple, the BF expert is away this week, so I would have to go to the GP, who is likely not to have a clue about sore nipples...

Pacita · 21/01/2009 21:23

Hopefully 9 months, but I may introduce formula before.

Hopefully · 21/01/2009 21:26

Hmm.... Maybe I should try bringing T into the shower. Or just remind myself that he won't die if he has to cry for the 5 mins it takes me to shower. I'm so pathetic, I hate to think of him crying! He's probably rather bored of getting covered in shower spray while he lies on the bathroom floor under his baby gym, and wondering why I don't leave him in the nice dry living room.

notcitrus · 21/01/2009 21:34

Haven't ironed in 3 years - luckily stretchy tops are fine with women's suits!

I have a treasure basket - friend who babysits lots has got a bit obsessed and has acquired every item suggested for one, so it fills a whole Sainsburys cloth bag... still it's all nice stuff, soft or wood, and 12mo cousin loved it over Christmas when it was half full.

Unlike the one at the nursery I was at yesterday where the owner got out their treasure basket for a 2.6yo and he homed in on two metal pans and clanged them together until his mum stopped him - cue him justifiably arguing that the nice lady had said they were for him to play with!

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 21/01/2009 21:49

imoscar - I took the headhugger off the car seat before xmas, she hates being strapped in it and she was getting even worse with it - think as she hates hats she thought it was one. I've also taken her around in the stroller, I guess it's from when they can support their heads properly, think it's from 3 or 4 months...

I've been carefully hanging DP#s shirts on wide hangers on curtain poles above radiators so he (I) can get away with no ironing ...

I have a bath with M most nights after DP's back from work, as she loves being completly submerged in the water, play a bit, eat bubbles, and then have half a feed...

CarrieBo · 21/01/2009 21:53

My dd's 'treasure basket' is a winnie-the-poo waste paper basket filled with things I don't know what to do with - hair rollers, spare wallet, that sort of thing!! Dh even put his expired snooker club membership card in the wallet so she can pay for things in shops just like mummy!
Door bouncer is another good one for shower time. I need to start putting ds in ours, coz he now loves the Baby Einstein activity centre so is more than happy being upright for a while and he's very strong on his legs so the bouncer is likely to be a huge hit. Unfortunately there aren't many places to put it coz we have an open plan downstairs!

ninja · 21/01/2009 22:06

Ooh Carrie I've just got a second hand activity centre from ebay, I'm hoping that M loves it as much as DD1 did. I think she's not quite ready for it yet as she still loves to be laying down but it's in the centre of my room waiting.

Well I have put together a few things for the treasure box (including the fake ugg boots that were bought for M and worn once). I haven't been shopping since before christmas so I might go and see if I can find a few more bits and pieces in town

Carriebo thank you so much, send me your credit card details and we will be off to our first lesson next week.LOL.
Money is a bit tight at the mo but i am really going to try and sort it as i do think they are a good idea and i really want to do something fum with Robyn

digitalgirl · 21/01/2009 22:27

[headgirl emoticon] I've showered every day since A was born apart from the second day I was stuck in hospital...thought I'd be going home so I didn't have one in the morning, then by the time I realised I wasn't going anywhere I was too depressed to have one on the post-natal ward.

In the early days my mum would say things like, 'yes darling I'll hold A while you go and shower, you don't want him to get a mouthful of salty sweat when he tries to latch on' She's always guilted me into good hygiene. So A has to listen to me singing badly while he gets coated in fine spray whilst sat in his bouncy chair.

pacita have you posted your question on the breastfeeding threads? I'm thinking the same thing for when I go back to work. By my reckoning if A is taking solids then he should be able to handle formula.

CarrieBo · 21/01/2009 22:34

ninja we love our activity centre, one of the best things we've ever ever had, got soooo much use out of it at different stages. Its a fabulous place to bung place your child while you clear up after dinner as it keeps them upright but contained. Last time I ever used it with dd she was already walking, but a glass got smashed and I just threw her in there so I knew she was safe and entertained while I cleared up.

digitalgirl · 21/01/2009 22:37

is an activity centre like a walker without wheels?

Pacita · 22/01/2009 07:57

Hurraaaaah! Diego slept 6 hours in a row from 2 till 6. Say hello to the new and improved, fresher Pacita!

Pacita · 22/01/2009 08:07

till 8 even! Doh.

plusonemore · 22/01/2009 08:30

well done pacita! i'm hoping Alfie will continue copying diego and i'll get a big sleep sooooooon

ninja · 22/01/2009 08:57

digitalgirl yes it is - Carrie linked to it on the last page. I think you can get the one she linked too cheaper on Kiddicare.

SEVEN AND A HALF HOURS FROM 10.30!!!!!!!!

I read somewhere (too much reading, that's my problem) that babies automatically wake up every 3 to 4 hours and can be awake for a few minutes and so I wondered if I was jumping in too early to feed M. Well it could be 'cos of her jabs yesterday, but she did settle with just a rock of the crib and a wait, and settled once more and suddenly it was 4 hours after the first time we'd woken. That time I decided that she (well I) wasn't going to settle and fed her (just before 6) then another at 7.30. I feel like there's a light at the end of the tunnel.Plusonemore I'll send M's vibes your way too

oOoh, Ninja, excellent performance - you outsleep us!

Honestly, I'm probably a big wuss, but after a few days of really broken sleep I was feeling ill. We both feel so much better today.

Digitalgirl I will ask in the breastfeeding forums, you are right. Also, where in North London are you? I am NL too.

SunflowerNeedsSunshine · 22/01/2009 10:13

well done LOs.

I woke DD up for a ebm bottle last night at 11 as we all needed some sleep and didn't want to risk her waking after we'd fallen asleep. it worked (woke her up again at 7am), but obviously DS woke up twice, second time at 3.30 as he needed a poo!! poor DP had to drive up to Yorks this morning to attend to funeral tomorrow morning, so in the end he just got up at 3.45, had a coffee and left...

on the plus side I managed to fit in a pair of trousers, though they were a bit big pre-pg and the button looks as if it's going to burts any minute... so now I'm finally having my breakfast (latte & italian shortbread biscuits) .

Hopefully · 22/01/2009 10:43

Pah, T woke at 2:30 last night! I've just started a thread on it (www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sleep/689406-DS-is-waking-up-with-a-noise-that-sounds-suspiciously here]]), as the noise he is waking up with is ridiculous! He sounds like he's in labour. I assume it's trapped wind or something, or possibly to do with his once a week pooing (rubbish gut), but it's so irritating because on the nights he doesn't wake up in labour he sleeps till at least 5am.

Ninja that's interesting - occasionally when T wakes at 3-4am he just goes back to sleep after a few minutes or labour noises.

Hopefully · 22/01/2009 10:43

sorry - here

ninja · 22/01/2009 10:55

I wish I'D slept that long but I do feel better today.

ninja · 22/01/2009 10:57

Oh dear hopefully hope you manage to figure out the wierd noises. Is T still having formula in the night?

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 22/01/2009 11:04

M decided to have a party in his cot last night, so I'm a bit bleary eyed today. However M has now been asleep for 3 hours to compensate for his lack of sleep in the night I can't be mad though as he has a bright red cheek today, so I'm guessing his teeth are giving him some trouble.

We put him in a door bouncer yesterday and he loved it. He seems to have worked out how to turn around in it and just about got the hang of bouncing a bit.

Hopefully, I'm just off to look at your thread. Oh, and I take M in his poo chair into the bathroom when I shower.

lollipopmother · 22/01/2009 12:20

We had the dreaded third set of jabs yesterday, DD was very fractious all day afterwards and wouldn't feed properly so I knew we'd be up in the night for a feed. What I didn't know was that she'd wake me up twice pooing in the night, she never poos at night! Then she's done two more this morning as well! It's either the jabs or the fajitas I had last night!
