LM yes that's the one - it's great and you'd be surprised how many mums of 2yr olds have a sneaky copy. even dh seems to agree with it which is a godsend given his bleeding heart liberal mum's attitude to discipline.....

not much else to report really

it's raining again

Evening ladies

What did I start with the speech mention! Sorry!

Well, I'm really down & have spent much of today in tears. It's our anniversary today. I went yesterday & got stuff for a special breakfast, made a card and secretly got dd painting (she's not wonder baby-I say painting but mean putting her hand in paint then on a piece of paper before in her eyes & mouth) and framed her first picture. We got up this morning & when dp asked why I was up so early-630-I smiled thinking he was jokingi. But no. He came down & was mortified when he saw me cooking eggs benedict with a card & presents on the table. He had to leave without breakfast to get to work & finally called about 2 to say he'd be home at 4. He eventually called at 6 to say he was running late & to get a cab to a restaurant with dd. One silent meal later-he turned up with flowers-we came home and I came to bed. I am being stupid I suppose but he knows how I feel so estranged from him at the moment. Oh well. gonna read a chapter of Obama's book before bed.

Night ladies.

Mm

thefortbuilder · 18/02/2009 22:11

o'h MM chin up darling! and funnily enough it's mine and dh's anniversary tomorrow.

i've just watched all the brits and O'H MY GOD I love the pet shop boys, and take that, and paul weller, and coldplay

the bottle of red i've got myself through has probably helped with my misty eyed version of how great music was when i was growing up though

sophie (our au pair who is 21) asked what was the first CD i bought - CD???? what about the first tape! actually the first song i recorded off the top 40 was west end girls - off a tape recorded that wasn't even linked up to the radio, and it had my dad barging into the room saying something on it!

anyway, hope you're all pysl at my rambling!

Oh dear MM, DP forgot ours last year so I totally know how you feel. It just ended up getting too late in the day to mention it, he invited one of his friends over for dinner, blurgh. Ended up with us both in tears. Sorry you're going through a rough patch, hope you see sunshine soon!

Haribosmummy · 18/02/2009 23:03

Hi!

Fuzzypeach - DS LOVED the modelling. He just loves being in front of a camera. He is a total natural and a real poser!!! I think the photos I have of him are good, but they are nowhere close to the shots the photographer took today!!! Was really funny cos it turned out they were casting for a young girl too and, as it happened DSD2 came with me - the agency were drooling over her!!!! DS got the job, of course, but I was reminded just how horrid this business can be when a 10-12YO (not sure how old) came in off the street with LOADS of proffesional photos and asked to be taken on by the agency and was given a VERY firm no. She was gutted and her mum wouldn't have it and was furious, and kept saying 'oh, you are making a big mistake' - it's really hard on kids and, if at any time I think DS isn't ready or right for it, he'll be out of it in no time...

MM - You really have my sympathies... I'm afraid DH is of a similar ilk and rarely remembers dates. He forgot our anniversary (OUR FIRST anniversary) last year and was only reminded when his (MADDDDDDD) Ex wife called us to remind him that he'd married her once (like YOU EVER forget!!!)...
I know I sound flippant, but try not to get too upset about it. Men are men. I've given up expecting valentines gifts etc., but I know DH loves me.. and that's what counts... but I know that it hurts when you are already feeling out in the cold

Flick - We also started watching the Brits, but got bored, and ended up watching a programme about Amish people (better than it sounds!) - I can do better than a tape - my first music was vinyl (but really BAD vinyl - Paul McCartney - pipes of Peace and the Frog Chorus... It hasn't improved much since!!! hahaha

Niknak - I'm envious you still even keep up with Neighbours - I was an avid fan like a million years ago, but now when the kids say they are watching it, I go and check out Sky news [boring emoticon]

Morning ladies

HM Glad to hear ds enjoyed the modelling. Dd really likes having her photo taken too though always sticks her tongue out & leaps towards the camera which makes for interesting photos!

I am still really upset about dp. I am not a soppy woman and don't celebrate things like Valentine's Day but I do think that it's nice to remember the day we met in some way. I didn't expect a present - just a kiss and some affection and a few smiles. Perhaps I have just been lucky but I have met several men who did think celebrating love was important. Hey ho.

Hope everyone has a good day.

MM

luckymummy74 · 19/02/2009 10:04

MM I feel for you luvvie, I would be gutted too. I know it's a cliche, but the more I remember that Men are from Mars and women are from Venus, it helps me....we are just wired so differently....Men are just crap generally when it comes to that sort of thing.

My first ever 7" vinyl record was a toss up between 'just say no' by the grange hill gang, or 'rock me amadeus' by Falco.....i went for Falco.

First 12" album on vinyl was the 'I hear talk' album by Bucks Fizz...closely followed by 'Like a virgin' by Madonna...

That doesn't include taping the charts off the radio.

My sis just said PSB playing the O2 in June??

LM xx

thefortbuilder · 19/02/2009 10:21

oooh anyone fancy trying to get a FML group to PSP?

or will we just look old and sad

Niknak21 · 19/02/2009 13:43

My 1st tape was a Wham album.

I also have a crap DH. I always say if I'd wanted a romantic husband I would have to have married someone else. I got really upset 2 years ago when I had PND or the pre work depression and he didn't get me anything for my birthday. I was coping ok until the counsellor I was seeing said 'these things matter when you're feeling low'. Thanks for rubbing it in love! And she was costing me £60 an hour.....

We've had a lovely morning. Took DS2 to nursery (not so lovely bit) then went to see Madagascar 2 with DS1 at cinema. He was very good and only kept asking when we were going home in the last 20 mins or so. It was his 1st cinema visit. Does anyone remember theirs? Mine was to see Flash Gordon when my Mum was ill in hospital at the age of 5, what was my Dad thinking !

Got a cleaner coming soon to do 3 hrs a week for us and I'm having a facial . I almost feel like a yummy mummy, although am quite embarassed at the state of my house. It'll take her weeks to get on top of the nearly 3 yr dirty in some areas .

Bigs hugs to all that are feeling the strain at the moment, I hope as someone said the sunshine comes out soon (lovely expression).

Haribosmummy · 19/02/2009 15:16

niknak - at paying £60 to be told that!!! - she's right though... if you feel loved, then those little gestures don't matter so much, it's when you are feeling down, and don't have much time to spend on yourself that I suppose it matters more that your DH / DP notices (and responds!!!!) to that... picks up the reins a bit, if you will, and gives you that little boost so you know you are still special... I really agree with that (well, I would, I just wrote it, but YKWIM!!!)

I'm up for a night out to see PSB.. One of my favourite tracks is Surburbia... I love that song... I don't think we'll be old and sad, Flick - I went to see Take That and Spice Girls on recent tours and there were LOADS of people our age (AKA Not old )

Best get on!!

LM - how are you feeling now?

i wasn't allowed to go and see take that or prince.....

psb will check it out and report back!

thefortbuilder · 19/02/2009 17:32

right i've managed to get 2 tickets only as dh now has decided he wants to go....

anyone with an o2 mobile can get priority booking today although there are only standing tickets available. you just need to go on the o2 venue website and there is a bit for o2 customers to click for priority booking - you then enter your mobile number and you have to send a text and then enter your passcode into the ticket master booking bit and you can get tickets.

HM let me know if you are going to go though!

luckymummy74 · 19/02/2009 19:06

Hmmm, I'm a bit confused as I seem to have managed to get two tickets (even though I didn't use my O2 phone to get them IYSWIM) but from what Flick has said they don't go on sale til tomorrow??? Mine are seated too??? They are described as 'fanclub pre-sale' but I'm not aware of belonging to any fanclub?? Very confused, I hope it's not a dodgy website who are now gonna fleece my credit card......nope, just checked, def ticketmaster.....hmmmm. How strange.

I am going with my sis but maybe we could try and meet up??? (might be a bit tricky!!!)

Feeling a bit better today thanks HM. Had a chat with DH about a few things on my mind, which has helped. Feeling very insecure at the moment, as if he's about to run off with some tight-arsed, pert-breasted 25 year old...... He assures me he's not, but I feel so grim at the moment.

baiyu · 19/02/2009 20:50

Em... I think the first tape I bought and got really excited about was the first Spice girls. Actually it was taped from a friend and pretty poor quality but I thought it was amazing. I remember telling my sister that I'd never get tired of listening to 'wannabe', she, wise beyond her 8 years said I probably would. Before that I had a double compilation tape that had the flintstones theme that was pretty amazng! I think PSB are a little before my time (but definitely not old!)

luckymummy74 · 20/02/2009 10:46

baiyu I am that spice girls was your first tape....that was after I had finished uni.......

My first cinema film was in 1984...'Ghostbusters'....!!!

thefortbuilder · 20/02/2009 14:25

LM chin up darling - i know how you feel but dh is not going to run off after a 25yr old!

am v at you with your seats!

luckymummy74 · 20/02/2009 14:45

don't be too , I'm not even sure it was a legit sale.....after what you said....will await postman with bated breath

baiyu · 20/02/2009 15:20

LM I was born in 1985 DP was reading over my shoulder last night and said maybe he'd run off with a 25 year old as he quite fancies a (slightly!) older woman! Hehe, I know I am quite a young mum, that's why I rely on the FMLs so much, all my friends are still in the pub...

luckymummy74 · 20/02/2009 18:55

I was 11 in 1985 !

monkeysmama · 20/02/2009 21:15

I must be tired. It took me ages to work out who PSB were - I was thinking maybe they were a band I'd missed....

I remember being at my (older) counsins' one summer and one of them was declaring undying love for Neil Tennant. She's been to all their concerts, knew their lyrics off by heart etc. My dad pointed out that she was unlikely to have much luck unless she changed gender and I remember how shocked she was. Even I - and I could only have been 9 or maybe 12 or so - was a bit surprised she didn't know that.

Haribosmummy · 20/02/2009 22:26

I was bloody 13 in 1985!!

LM - I do hope your tickets come through, cos I couldn't book through ticketmaster till today and then only standing???

Baiyu - LOL at your DP running off with an older woman!!!

Dh is 10 years older than me and his ex is a year older than he is, so I suppose I was the pert 25 YO when we met (I am no longer!!!! ) He's as young looking as the day we met (if not more so - he's in better shape... he looks great... the same cannot be said of me!!)

Am really enjoying having DH and DSDs around for the week. We're settled, IYKWIM, we're used to each other again and it's a lovely feeling. He came to feed the ducks with us this morning which was lovely. I do look forward to a time when he's home a bit more, even if we have a bit less money. Only got two more days of him being at home

Mitchell - hope you are OK. Has DH made a decision about work?

Fuzzypeach - Enjoy your time off!

HM x
